I heard you had a white moonlight who died young.

Chapter 236 The Puppy Saves the World

To be fair, youth is a good thing. Influenced by this body, which is younger and more fragile than his real-world self, Fan Zhiyi soon fell into a deep sleep.

Even though he kept telling himself not to sleep and to stay alert before going to sleep, he was overcome with drowsiness. Plus, Fan Zhiyi had been running for so long, suffered so many frights, and been threatened and intimidated by the male lead. He had already reached his limit and hadn't adapted to life here yet. He just felt tired, so it would be strange if he didn't fall asleep.

However, Fan Zhiyi was cautious. He needed to sleep and rest, but Bai Bai was still useful. Bai Bai was a high-tech device, so why not use it? Therefore, Fan Zhiyi had Bai Bai keep watch at night, which put him at ease.

He thought he could at least get some rest, but not long after Fan Zhiyi fell asleep, he felt a chilling aura creeping up the seven-pointed star pattern on his arm and climbing up his entire body. The coldness penetrated his bones and seeped into his blood and internal organs, making him curl up into a ball and shiver uncontrollably.

But in his dream, Fan Zhiyi was running at an extremely fast speed. He was traversing a jungle where he couldn't find his way, with the wind whistling past his ears.

Run, don't stop, keep running...

Fan Zhiyi said to himself that although he didn't know why he had to do this, he subconsciously felt that something terrible would happen if he stopped.

Fan Zhiyi didn't know which direction to go. The road seemed to have no end, and the weight on his back grew heavier and heavier. Fan Zhiyi felt like he was being suffocated by the weight, so he woke up with a start, only to find that he couldn't move.

The thunder outside was deafening, but in the fleeting light of lightning, Fan Zhiyi saw a woman hanging from the roof beam, her long hair trailing on the ground, her feet dangling, swaying precariously.

Her pale face, which had been facing straight ahead, slowly began to turn towards Fan Zhiyi, and then suddenly she grinned and laughed. Fan Zhiyi felt his blood run cold and woke up in fright, realizing that he had just been dreaming.

He called out to Bai Bai, but Bai Bai did not respond. Instead, Fan Zhiyi noticed a dark figure standing in front of him.

He didn't know what he said to the shadowy figure, but the figure grabbed his hand and led him away. They ran through the courtyard, very fast, and it seemed like many things were chasing them, especially the female ghost who was very agile with a kitchen knife. Several times, Fan Zhiyi was almost hit by her kitchen knife.

Darkness encroached on the path they had run.

Fan Zhiyi only remembered that they ran together for a long time, and suddenly, he realized for some reason that he could no longer run. Fan Zhiyi blinked, looked at the hand holding his, and then looked at the other person. He couldn't see his face clearly; he was also part of the darkness.

Fan Zhiyi frowned. At this moment, the things chasing him behind him disappeared, only the hand that was holding him remained. It was very cold, and the chill came through the point of contact, making him shiver.

Ahead lay a cliff; if Fan Zhiyi took just one more step forward, he would fall off again.

He began to struggle, but he couldn't break free. He seemed to see the other person's smile, and he seemed to hear him say, "You can't escape."

Fan Zhiyi suddenly realized that he was still dreaming, and this must be the third layer of the dream. He couldn't go any deeper. He wanted to wake up, so he resolutely jumped off the cliff.

This time, he returned to the old orphanage, which was empty and deserted, surrounded by cobwebs and dust. In the darkness, the electric lights hanging from the white ceiling flickered and crackled. Fan Zhiyi walked along the corridor, listening to the various sounds echoing from the walls.

"Zhiyi, there have been some changes in the family that adopted you, so they have decided not to come."

"Brother Zhiyi, we prefer playing with other older brothers!"

"Fan Zhiyi, he's really silly and funny. If you talk to him a few times and show him some concern, he'll consider you friends and will do anything you ask. Hey, you know what? Once he..."

"Oh dear, Zhiyi is so old now. You've failed to adopt several times, haven't you? But to be fair, we should give more opportunities to younger children. What do you think, Zhiyi?"

"Fan Zhiyi? Who is Fan Zhiyi? Oh, is that reclusive guy who likes to talk to himself and seems a bit eccentric? No wonder I heard he was almost adopted a few times but then he backed out."

……

……

Fan Zhiyi covered his ears as memories of his orphanage days flooded back, making his nose sting. Countless pale hands reached out from the walls, pulling at him, trying to grab him. Fan Zhiyi dodged, closing his eyes and running forward recklessly.

Suddenly, all the sounds disappeared, leaving only the crisp sound of a ball bouncing.

"Boom bang bang-"

"Boom bang bang-"

The sound drew closer, and one by one the overhead lights exploded, plunging the surroundings into an eerie silence and darkness.

The ball rolled, hit Fan Zhiyi's toes, and then bounced off, slowly disappearing into the darkness as if it were being manipulated.

Fan Zhiyi felt scared, agitated, and tired. He didn't want to move forward anymore, since all he could see was endless darkness. So he squatted down in the corner, buried his head, and hugged himself tightly, not wanting to see anything anymore, willing to be an inconspicuous stone.

Fan Zhiyi was trembling; he was on the verge of a mental breakdown.

Just then, he heard a dog barking and charging towards him menacingly.

Fan Zhiyi felt a sense of familiarity and, moved by what he saw, looked up, only to be pounced on by a large golden retriever. The dog excitedly licked his cheeks and frolicked with him.

All the fear vanished in an instant, and the lights came back on one by one. Fan Zhiyi was stunned for a moment, then sat up in disbelief, looking at the dog in front of him wagging its tail happily and rapidly.

He trembled as he reached out and rubbed it. It was soft to the touch. Fan Zhiyi's eyes quickly reddened, and he choked out, "Pumpkin."

"Wang Wang!"

"Pumpkin" is the name of Fan Zhiyi's golden retriever. Fan Zhiyi hasn't seen it for a long time, and he really misses it. He has been apologizing to it. If he hadn't failed in his duty as the owner, Pumpkin wouldn't have left him.

His only ever loyal friend and family member, he missed it so much in the days without it.

Fan Zhiyi hugged the large, fluffy ball of fur tightly in his arms, bursting into tears of joy. The surprise of the reunion made him forget everything else. Then Fan Zhiyi noticed another dirty little dog. It barked loudly at its surroundings, dispelling the darkness. Although small in size, it was full of spirit, and the contrast made it especially adorable.

Fan Zhiyi had a strange feeling for this little dog, but he clearly did not remember ever seeing it before.

The little dog seemed to notice Fan Zhiyi looking at it. Its round, black pearl-like eyes stared at Fan Zhiyi and barked a few times, filled with deep dissatisfaction and grievance.
