Crossing Over to Yamada Love

Chapter 99 The Attitude of the Xue Brothers

After hearing what Wang said, Doctor Chen hurriedly took out the pounded herbs and applied them to Da Gou's wife, then bandaged her up. He left two packets of herbs and departed amidst Da Gou's profuse thanks.

"Auntie, this, this..." Liu Dagou kept rubbing his hands back and forth, his dark face turning red, not knowing what to say to Wang Shi.

Wang waved her hand at him and said, "There's no need to say anything now. Just take good care of your wife. If she gets better tomorrow, you can come to my shop again. As for what to do then, I won't say. Now, your aunt is taking Lan'er back. Do you have any objections?"

"No, no, Auntie, go back quickly. If Cui Cui is really better tomorrow, I will definitely go to your house to apologize." Liu Dagou chuckled as he saw Wang Shi off, completely different from the time when he went to smash the shop.

Wang glanced at him and led Mo Lan out.

Seeing the look Mo Quan gave her, Wang nodded and then walked out with them.

Ignoring the chattering crowd, the group returned to the shop. Mo Changhai and Qiu Dajun had already tidied up the shop; the broken plates and bowls had been cleaned up and new ones had been put back on. Two broken stools had also been removed.

"Sigh," Mo Quan sighed and walked towards the backyard with his hands behind his back.

"What happened?" A voice came from behind them as they stared speechlessly at the spot where the object had been smashed.

Mo Lan turned around and saw that it was the Xue brothers who had come over, and the one who asked the question was Steward Xue.

"It's nothing, it's all in the past. Young Master Xue, please come inside and have a seat." Mo Changhe quickly composed himself, smiled, and gestured for the Xue family members to come inside.

As Mo Lan followed Qiu Dajun to serve food to the Xue brothers, the corn was bubbling away, the water in the pot dried up, and the bottom of the pot was burnt.

The buns were steamed for a little too long, and there was a bit too much baking soda, so they turned a bit yellow. However, eating these buns won't cause any problems, even for people with sensitive stomachs.

"Lanlan, what happened to your family? Tell me, did someone bully your family? I see your dad and your uncle still have injuries on their faces. What happened?" Little Fatty Xue Linglei didn't start eating as usual as he usually would as soon as the dishes were served, but asked Mo Lan seriously.

Mo Lan pondered for a moment. She looked at the chubby boy with a concerned expression, Xue Lingyun who looked like he was bathed in spring sunshine, and Xue Lingfeng who looked a little aloof. She slowly said, "There was a woman in our village who went up the mountain to pick mushrooms to sell to our shop. As a result, she was bitten by a grasshopper. Her family thought she was going to die, so they came to our shop, smashed the shop, and beat people up."

"This is outrageous! How can you blame your family for what happened to her picking mushrooms on her? You didn't tie her up with a rope, they just wanted to make money! Which family? What's their name? Tell me, and I'll get revenge for you later." The chubby boy jumped up from the stool, looking indignant.

Xue Lingyun snapped the paper fan shut, tapped her palm, and said, "Xiao Shi, don't worry. Lanlan, I know a few people in the town's government office. Just ask if you need any help. I've been eating here for free for so many days, so I should reciprocate."

Xue Lingfeng wasn't in a hurry. He gently twirled the teacup in his hand, lowered his eyes slightly, and softly asked, "How was it resolved?"

"They have four brothers. We had to use weapons before they would talk to us properly. My grandma went to their house and helped remove the grasshopper's head. The woman should be alright now. Her family said they would come to apologize if the woman was okay." Mo Lan told them softly what had happened.

"They got off too easy. They beat people up, smashed up shops, and even paid for their medical treatment. When they come to our door tomorrow, we'll give them a good beating, and they'll have to pay double for the losses!" the chubby boy said bitterly.

"Sigh, their family is poor, otherwise why would they go up the mountain to pick mushrooms and sell them to our shop? They can't afford to pay back the money. When the time comes, they'll soften their tune, and their whole family will start crying. What can we say? We'll probably just have to let it go." Mo Lan sighed. Her elders weren't heartless people.

"So we'll just leave it at that?" Xue Lingyun raised an eyebrow and asked Mo Lan.

"What else can we do? They all live in the same village. If we arrest them, how will their families survive? If we go too far, no one will care about you in this village if anything happens. And since they're surnamed Liu, there will probably be plenty of people trying to sabotage us behind our backs. So, we should let things go when they're in the past." Mo Lan's gaze was deep; she had thought things through before speaking.

Xue Lingfeng stopped turning the cup, picked up an ear of corn with his chopsticks, and said to Xue Linglei, "Eat it, or I'll eat it all."

"No, wait, I'm eating now, you two slow down." Seeing his two older brothers start munching on corn, the chubby boy quickly grabbed an ear of corn himself, munching on it while muttering to Mo Lan, "Just say the word if you need anything. Otherwise, I'll be eating your lunch for free. But you'll have to make me more delicious food in the future!"

Mo Lan chuckled as she watched the chubby boy's mouth full of corn kernels, "Okay, I'll make you delicious food often in the future."

Seeing that everyone was eating, Mo Lan breathed a sigh of relief, turned around and left. When she arrived at the backyard, everyone was there, but their moods were not very high.

"They even caused trouble while harvesting mushrooms. The timing of their mushroom delivery was so sweet. They said it was all thanks to our family that they were able to earn so much money. Now that something's happened, they're blaming us. What kind of people are they!" Qiu muttered loudly.

"Isn't it just because they're jealous of the money our shop has made? They've all been blinded by greed," Liu added.

Mo Quan sat on the bench, smoking his pipe without saying a word.

"How about we don't harvest the mushrooms then?" Mo Mei said softly, hugging Xiao San'er. During the fight, she had been protecting Xiao San'er, afraid of hurting him, and hadn't dared to step forward.

"Whether we accept it or not, it's all the same. If we want to renege, we'll find an excuse. Let's all get back to what we were doing and not talk about his family anymore. We'll know the outcome tomorrow." Madam Wang waved her hand, signaling everyone to continue their work.

That night, the Mo family members all had a sleepless night, and they were all worried about how Big Dog's wife was doing.

They had just put the steamed buns on the stove when they heard voices coming from the front yard again.

“I say, nephew Dajun, please let us in quickly. We’ve come to apologize. Go in and tell Uncle Quan and Aunt Quan that Dagou has come to apologize.”

Upon hearing this, the Mo family members in the backyard all breathed a sigh of relief, their hearts finally at ease. Mo Quan led the way towards the shop in the front yard.

Looking at Liu Dagou, who kept smiling obsequiously at Qiu Dajun, Mo Lan couldn't help but sigh inwardly: This person really changes his tune every now and then.

"Uncle Quan, Auntie, Brother Changhai, Brother Changhe, I've come to apologize. I was too reckless yesterday. Please don't take offense." As soon as Liu Dagou saw the Mo family members come out, he hurriedly bowed to them.

“Brother Quan, sister-in-law, you are my own sister-in-law. How can I ever repay such a great kindness?” Liu Dagou’s mother was no longer crying and wailing like yesterday. She reached out and grabbed Wang Shi, saying kind words to her.

"Is the dog's house alright?" Wang asked casually.

"Alright, alright, she didn't have a fever or anything last night. She woke up this morning saying she was hungry. Apart from losing a lot of blood and being a little weak, she's fine. Her life was given to her by her aunt. I... I really..." Liu Dagou couldn't continue.

"If it's alright, then it's good. If it's not, I'm afraid my whole family won't be able to survive. This person has been beaten, and the shop has been smashed. Where can we go to seek justice?" Wang's voice was not loud, but it was somewhat cold.

"Auntie, it's all our fault. I have a bad temper. Please don't hold it against us." Liu Dagou said with a smile, bowing his head repeatedly to admit his mistakes.

“Yesterday, Young Master Xue said he would ask someone from the yamen to come and resolve this,” Mo Lan interjected crisply.

With a thud, Liu Dagou knelt down on the ground and slapped himself several times, saying as he did so, "Uncle Quan, Auntie, I admit my mistake. Please don't let the authorities come. I was heartless. I was angry because my wife is gone, so I tried to extort money from people. I hit people, I'm not human. Please forgive me."

His three brothers also knelt on the ground and began to beg for mercy, and Liu Dagou's mother also grabbed Wang's hand and started to cry.

"There's always a reason why someone is pitiful!" Mo Lan sighed inwardly. They were pitiful now, but weren't they just as hateful for the time they beat people and smashed up shops?

Hearing the numerous discussions around her, Mo Lan knew that things were about to end, and there was no point in making a fuss any longer.

As expected, Mo Quan and Wang Shi said a few words of comfort to the Liu brothers and then helped them up.

"Uncle Quan, Auntie, my wife was saved this time entirely thanks to you. I, Liu Dagou, am not an ungrateful person. From now on, if your family ever needs anything, just let me know. If I can't do it, I'm a coward." Liu Dagou stood up and said gratefully.

"Hmph, the reason they saved Big Dog's family is because they want her to go up the mountain to pick mushrooms. From now on, Big Dog's family will probably be sending mushrooms here in droves. Maybe they won't even have to pay them because of their benefactor. They're letting good people take advantage of this. The Mo family has so many tricks up their sleeves." A slightly mocking voice came from the crowd.

Mo Lan looked up and saw it was Aunt Erdan making disgruntled comments in the crowd. Seeing it was her, Mo Lan smiled slightly. This Aunt Erdan still dared to come; she must not have had enough soup spilled on her last time. She probably doesn't remember being spanked with a soup spoon.

"You're just jealous because other people's businesses are doing so well, aren't you? I heard you tried to steal Old Mo's business, but you lost a lot of money and ended up losing big time. You say they're getting a good deal, so why don't you try to get a good deal yourself? Don't you even know if you have the ability!" A middle-aged woman in the crowd who didn't get along with Aunt Erdan mocked her.

"What do you mean I'm envious? Her family knows how to treat weeds, why didn't she treat them earlier? If she had helped Chen Dazhuzi treat them back then, would Dazhuzi have died? They only didn't treat him because they thought Dazhuzi's family was poor and there was no benefit to be gained. What! Did I say something wrong?" Aunt Erdan curled her lip and shouted at people.
