Crossing Over to Yamada Love

Chapter 404 Giving Birth on the Mountain

Mo Lan didn't answer the woman's question. She supported her stomach with both hands, leaning against the pine tree, unable to get up. She had just felt warm fluid flowing from her lower body; she didn't know if it was her water breaking or blood. Could it be that she had gone into labor?

Mo Lan's heart sank. She was a little over eight months pregnant. If she were to give birth, it wouldn't be a good thing. There's an old saying that a baby born at seven months can survive, but a baby born at eight months can't. She didn't know the reason, but she knew that since this saying had been passed down, there was an 80% chance that if she gave birth now, the baby wouldn't survive.

"Sister, sister, how are you?" Yu Zhen'er asked anxiously when she saw that Mo Lan hadn't spoken.

"No, it's nothing, don't worry." Mo Lan bit her lower lip, forcing herself to cheer up.

She slowly helped Yu Zhen'er to her feet. She wanted to insist on walking out of the woods and down the mountain, regardless of whether she was going to give birth or what, and then decide what to do when she got back to Youran Residence.

She got up halfway, but then felt an unbearable stomachache and fell back down.

Upon seeing Mo Lan's condition, the woman hurriedly reached out to help Yu Zhen'er support Mo Lan, "Are you about to give birth? Why did you come up the mountain with such a big belly? Are there just the two of you?"

Mo Lan hadn't paid much attention to the woman at first, but now that she saw how enthusiastically the woman was helping her, she began to scrutinize her.

The woman in front of her seemed familiar, as if she had seen her somewhere before, but she couldn't quite place it.

"Thank you, sister-in-law. We came up the mountain for fun. I'm not due yet, but I've unexpectedly started having problems with the pregnancy. I'm afraid I'm going into labor. Can you help us?" Mo Lan replied to the woman, enduring the pain.

"I'd like to help, but I don't know how to deliver babies. How about I help this young lady carry you down the mountain? We can give birth down the mountain; giving birth here isn't a solution." The woman wasn't one to nag; she agreed to help Mo Lan, but she genuinely didn't know how to deliver babies and wanted to help Mo Lan down the mountain.

"That's fine." Mo Lan nodded. With more women, they might be able to go down the mountain.

"Sister, can you keep going?" Yu Zhen'er asked.

Mo Lan nodded to her, and then the woman and Yu Zhen'er supported Mo Lan on both sides and helped her walk down the mountain.

After taking only two steps, Mo Lan was unable to move. Her stomach felt like it was being stabbed, and hot liquid was flowing out of her lower body. She was afraid she wouldn't be able to get down the mountain.

"No, I can't take it anymore, I'm afraid I'm going into labor." Mo Lan felt her legs were so weak and painful that she couldn't move at all.

"Young lady, your belly looks quite big. How come you're not due yet? I wasn't even pregnant with my daughter when my belly was this big. How many months along are you?" the woman asked Mo Lan.

“My sister is eight months pregnant.” Yu Zhen’er and the woman put Mo Lan back under the tree. Seeing that Mo Lan was weak from the pain, she answered for Mo Lan.

"Eight months! That won't do. Seven months is not enough, eight months is not enough. This child won't survive if it's born. No, we can't give birth. It's too dangerous for both the mother and the child. We can't stay here. Sister, let me carry you down the mountain." The woman became anxious as soon as she heard this and wanted to carry Mo Lan down the mountain.

Mo Lan admired her enthusiasm, but the way down the mountain was still far, and she couldn't possibly carry herself down.

"Sister-in-law, I'm afraid we won't be able to get out. The road is so far, and I'm afraid my sister will die before we even get there. Sister-in-law, I don't know anything about these things, please save my sister, I beg you." After Yu Zhen'er finished speaking, she knelt down in front of the woman. Now she couldn't rely on herself and could only rely on this stranger.

"Girl, get up quickly. I'll definitely help you if I can. But your sister's condition..." The woman was also very anxious, but she didn't know what to do for the moment.

“I recognize you,” Mo Lan suddenly said.

"Young lady, do you know me? Are you from our village? I've never seen you before, young lady." The woman was certain she had never seen the young woman in front of her before, and asked with a frown.

"Snake bite, Doctor Chen..." Mo Lan could only say this much because of the pain. She had just remembered that this woman was the same woman she had met on the mountain before her marriage who had been bitten by a snake. What a coincidence! She had heard Qiu Shi say that this woman had come to thank her, but she was not there and had not met her. She had never seen her again.

The woman was taken aback by Mo Lan's words, but then she realized that she had been bitten by a snake that year. It was the people from the village who carried her down the mountain. When she woke up, the people from the village told her that if she hadn't met a girl who first helped her drain the venom and then helped her go up the mountain to find the "Ghost-Seeing Sorrow" that could cure snake venom, she probably wouldn't have survived.

She was deeply grateful to the girl. After inquiring about the Mo family, she went to thank them. Unfortunately, she didn't meet the person in question. She didn't want to go to the person's place for fear of being looked down upon. So she kept this kindness in her heart. Who would have thought that she would meet them today?

"Are you Miss Mo Lan?" the woman asked, her eyes wide.

Mo Lan nodded slightly; she was in so much pain that she had no strength left.

Seeing Mo Lan nod, the woman knelt down and kowtowed to Mo Lan, saying, "Song Zhao pays respects to my benefactor and thanks Miss Mo Lan for saving my life."

"Get up, don't... don't do this, I..." Mo Lan had only said this much when her stomach hurt so badly she couldn't continue.

“Young lady, this won’t do. You’re probably really going into labor. There’s no other way but to give birth here. Otherwise, if we delay any longer, I’m afraid something might happen.” Knowing that Mo Lan was her savior, Madam Song couldn’t abandon her, and she changed how she addressed Mo Lan.

Mo Lan nodded; right now, she only had her husband.

Song Zhao spread the burlap sack behind her on the ground, then spread her outer garment on the sack, let Mo Lan lie down on it, and then took off Mo Lan's pants.

She had also placed her undergarment on the ground next to her, intending to wrap the baby up later, regardless of whether the baby would survive.

Mo Lan's pants were covered in filth, a mixture of amniotic fluid and blood, and her lower body was also unclean, but that's how childbirth is.

Yu Zhen'er could only stand there dumbfounded. She had never experienced anything like this before and was completely helpless, not knowing what to do.

Song Zhao threw the knife from her basket to Yu Zhen'er and said, "Young lady, first clean this knife, then start a fire to heat it up. We'll use it to cut the umbilical cord later. We have nothing else right now, so we'll have to make do with this for now."

After saying that, she spread Mo Lan's legs apart and shouted for Mo Lan to push harder.

Yu Zhen'er was a little dumbfounded holding the small knife that Song Zhao used to cut vegetables. Then she calmed herself down. Her sister was suffering right now, so she couldn't panic. She had to stay calm and do her best to help her sister.

She tore off her clothes and began to clean the knife, which was a farmer's tool for picking vegetables. It was covered in mud and very dirty, making it difficult to clean. Some parts were impossible to clean, and since there was no water, she had no choice but to spit on it and try to clean it.

Seeing that the knife wasn't clean enough, she glanced at Mo Lan. Mo Lan's hair was disheveled, her brows were furrowed, her face was pale, and she was biting her lower lip tightly. She didn't cry out, but she knew that Mo Lan must be in a lot of pain. The baby hadn't been born yet, and she had to hurry.

Yu Zhen'er started picking up twigs again. But how to light them? Luckily, she had a tinderbox, but why couldn't the tinderbox light the twigs? Yu Zhen'er was puzzled.

"First...first use dry grass. Small...small twigs." Mo Lan knew that Yu Zhen'er had never done these things before, so she reluctantly taught her.

"Okay, I understand, sister, please stop talking." Seeing Mo Lan like this, Yu Zhen'er almost burst into tears. She quickly gathered some dry grass and some small twigs, and after several attempts, finally managed to start a fire.

“That’s dandelion…you…you wipe the knife first. It…it’s anti-inflammatory, give…give me some.” Mo Lan had already seen dandelion among the wild vegetables poured out of Song Zhao’s sack.

The dandelions aren't very good; they're not very moist, the stalks are quite large, and some are old. They need to be taken back and dried.

Yu Zhen'er hurriedly followed Mo Lan's finger and handed the dandelion to Mo Lan. After handing it to Mo Lan, she took some and used it to clean the knife, then burned it.

While Mo Lan was giving birth, she chewed some dandelion. It would be useful later, and she could apply it to any wounds. A lot of dandelion juice entered her mouth, which was full of bitter taste. Old dandelion is very bitter, but she swallowed it. This stuff can reduce inflammation, and eating it can only be beneficial.

The woods grew dark; it was getting late, but no one had found their way here. She wondered what the situation was like outside. Mo Lan felt a growing unease.

Suddenly she felt something tearing at her lower body, pulling her painfully and dragging her down. She strained, gathering all her strength, and clenched her fist, letting out a cry.

She felt a soft "plop" sound, as if something had slipped out of her body. Could it be that she had given birth?

"It's born! It's born! The baby is out!" Song Zhaoshi exclaimed in surprise.

Then she picked up the child and, looking at the little one covered in blood, cried out to God for help.

"She gave birth? Sister gave birth?" Yu Zhen'er looked at the baby in disbelief. Is this what a newborn looks like?

"Waaah..." The baby seemed to be unaccustomed to being separated from its mother's womb, or uncomfortable, or perhaps it was cold, and started to cry.

"Daughter, quick, give me the knife!" Song Zhao was awakened by the baby's cries and realized that the umbilical cord had not yet been cut.

Yu Zhen'er hurriedly handed the knife she had prepared to Song Zhao Shi. Song Zhao Shi cut the umbilical cord and then wrapped the baby inside her clothes. It was a boy.

Madam Song Zhao felt a deep sense of regret, wondering if she could survive. Although she was crying loudly, she estimated that she would not survive. It was such a pity that such a good person as Miss Mo Lan had to endure such a thing.

Mo Lan knew the baby was born and heard the baby cry. She felt a little relieved, and an indescribable feeling welled up in her heart. It was finally born! But why did her stomach still hurt? Why did she still feel like her lower body was being torn apart? Was she going to bleed? She remembered that Mo Mei had only started bleeding after giving birth last time.
