Crossing Over to Yamada Love

Chapter 373 Finally Married

Madam Qiu wiped away her tears, turned around and looked at Mo Lan, saying, "Daughter, I'm easily moved to tears, don't follow my example. Today is your big day, you must be happy, we shouldn't be sad."

That's what Mrs. Qiu said, but tears still streamed down her face. Her daughter was now someone else's family, and everything would be decided by her husband's family; she couldn't stop worrying about that.

"Mother, don't feel bad anymore. I will come back to see you often in the future." Mo Lan wiped away Qiu Shi's tears.

"Mother is happy. My daughter has married well. Mother is delighted. Daughter, once you're in your husband's family, you can't just do whatever you want. You must be filial to your parents-in-law and listen to Lingfeng. Your husband's family is not like your own family. They can't do whatever you want. Don't be so naughty in the future," Qiu Shi instructed her daughter.

"Mm." Mo Lan nodded gently, her eyes reddening.

The group chatted for a while longer, and then more people came into the room, including relatives and villagers, all of whom came in to offer their congratulations. They would say a few auspicious words and then leave again.

Liu and Qiu were also called out to entertain the guests, leaving only Mo Lan in the room. Mo Mei was heavily pregnant, so to avoid hurting her, Qin was in another room talking with her and a group of guests.

While Chen was busy dealing with the young women, the Mo family members were not idle.

Mo Lan glanced at Granny Bai, Chunhua, and Xia Yu. They had all accompanied her on her wedding day, and she had asked them what they thought; they were all willing to come with her to the other courtyard. Even after the wedding, it wouldn't interfere with anything, and they were still willing to serve Mo Lan.

One group left and another arrived, people coming and going in a steady stream. Mo Lan maintained a shy smile the whole time; that was all she could do in response to the compliments. She felt like her face was about to freeze from smiling.

Time seemed to pass either quickly or slowly. Finally, the sound of gongs and drums came from outside, signaling the arrival of the wedding procession. Mo Lan smiled slightly, wondering what kind of trouble the young men in the courtyard would cause Xue Lingfeng. But she figured it wouldn't be too difficult, and wouldn't be able to stump him.

"Miss, let's put on the phoenix coronet. Young Master Xue has arrived and will be entering the house soon. We need to get ready quickly." The matchmaker stepped forward to help Mo Lan put on the phoenix coronet.

After the veil was put on, the matchmaker picked up the veil to cover Mo Lan. Mo Lan looked around her room, then took a deep breath and let the matchmaker cover her head with the veil. Her view was blocked. She could only see the hem of her skirt and the area around her feet.

With the help of the matchmaker, she went to the main room to meet the elders of the Mo family.

“Girl, we must get going now. Let’s kowtow to our elders one last time.” The matchmaker helped Mo Lan to Mo Quan and Madam Wang.

Then he helped Mo Lan kneel on the prayer mat.

"Granddaughter bids farewell to grandpa and grandma, hoping they will take good care of themselves." After saying this, Mo Lan kowtowed three times to the two of them.

"Good girl, get up quickly." Mo Quan said, his eyes glistening with tears, as he told Mo Lan to get up.

Wang was fine at first, but after hearing Mo Lan's words and seeing Mo Lan finish kowtowing, she burst into tears. She hurriedly covered her face with her sleeve and was sobbing so hard she couldn't speak.

Her granddaughter was finally getting married. She was both happy and heartbroken. She wouldn't be able to be by her side all the time anymore, and she wouldn't be able to chat and act cute with her anymore. Her heart felt empty all of a sudden.

Mo Lan didn't hear her grandmother's voice, but she knew she must be crying and feeling sad. Her heart felt like it was being clenched, and large tears streamed down her face.

"Mother, let Lanlan get up." Liu was also feeling bad, but she wasn't as agitated as Wang. She couldn't let Lanlan kneel like that.

"Get up, get up." Madam Wang raised her hand to help Mo Lan up, and then gave Mo Lan a red envelope containing the dowry money she had given her.

Mo Lan thanked her and handed the red envelope to Granny Bai, who would put it away for her. Then, she was helped up by the matchmaker and led to Mo Changhe and Qiu Shi.

"Girl, kowtow to your parents. It wasn't easy for them to raise you. Now that you're leaving, thank them for their kindness in raising you." After saying this, the matchmaker helped Mo Lan kneel down again.

"Father and Mother, take care. Your daughter thanks you." Mo Lan finished speaking and kowtowed three more times.

Mo Changhe was also very excited and kept telling his daughter to get up, while Qiu Shi started to sob.

After bidding farewell to her parents (there was no need for further bowing), Mo Lan, with the help of the matchmaker, then paid her respects to Mo Jin, Mo Changhai, and Liu Shi. Each of them, with tears in their eyes, offered Mo Lan a few words of advice.

Mo Lan bowed to Chen Shi again. Chen Shi was her elder sister-in-law, and Mo Lan did this to thank her, as she would have to take care of the elders in the family from now on.

Madam Chen understood Mo Lan's meaning, accepted her gift, and reassured her that she would definitely be filial to her elders.

Mo Lan was helped to the door by the matchmaker. Er Lang bent down, and Mo Lan said, "Thank you for your hard work, brother," before leaning over.

Because Erlang had his back to the Mo family members, no one saw the tears welling up in his eyes. He was also reluctant to part with his sister, but she couldn't stay single forever. Besides, she had married well and was to his liking. As long as his sister was happy, he would bless her and send her off properly.

Mo Lan was carried on Erlang's back, and Erlang carried her all the way to the carriage at the door.

Once Mo Lan boarded the carriage, the sound of gongs and drums rang out again, signaling the start of their journey back to town.

The rest of the people rode horses or carriages as they pleased. The dowry was divided into two groups: one group was carried to the villa, and the other to the Xue residence. They set off for the town in a grand procession.

The dowry carried to the villa was mostly given by Madam Wang, along with gifts from the old Marquis and others, and some prepared by Mo Changhe. These were all brought directly to the villa, registered, and were all Mo Lan's private property.

The first item in the dowry carried to the Xue residence was a jade ruyi, a gift from the Imperial Concubine. It symbolized good fortune, and because of the Imperial Concubine's status, it was placed at the head of the procession.

The second load was from the old Marquis, the third from Grand Secretary Chen, and then from the Xue family. They were all dowries from people of high status, and they were all registered. These could not be transferred, so Mo Lan was not worried that anyone would covet them.

Behind them were various contracts: contracts for the mountains, contracts for the houses, contracts for the shops, each with its own set of contracts.

Then came various boxes, some filled with clothes, some with fabric. Although there were many boxes, they didn't contain much. They were mainly for show, and most of them were taken to another courtyard. These were just for decoration to make the place look nice.

Inside the car, Mo Lan gently lifted her veil. She couldn't look out the window because there were people following her, and she was afraid they would talk.

Mo Lan felt stifled and somewhat flustered. To calm herself, she hummed a traditional opera tune in a very low voice: "Three cannon shots outside the mansion gate set off the bridal sedan chair. Zhou Fenglian sat inside, beaming with joy. The attendants beat gongs and cleared the way, all lined up neatly."

The drums and flutes played a melodious tune, and as they left the mansion, they played "A Hundred Birds Paying Homage to the Phoenix." Along the way, they played "The Harmonious Cry of Luan and Feng."

The martial arts champion came to fetch his bride, causing a sensation throughout the town. Villagers lined the roadside, showering her with praise. One said the new son-in-law was virtuous and handsome, another said the new bride was beautiful and charming. The villagers all praised my son-in-law, but I could only look at him through the sedan curtain, his features indistinct.

A tall horse rode in front of the sedan chair, and on it sat a gentleman, dressed in a brocade robe, wearing a golden helmet adorned with gold flowers, and a red cross-shaped sash. Without anyone telling me, I knew he was my destined one, there to welcome my bride.

The young man cracked his whip and urged his horse onward, escorting me. He wore a black gauze hat and a python robe, his face beaming with joy.

The martial arts champion married me, the civil service champion sent me off; today, I, the young lady, am the most majestic and powerful woman in the land.

Mo Lan remembered that the opera was called "Carrying the Bridal Sedan Chair," and she sang a small part of it, which was the part about a woman getting married.

Although Mo Lan is different from the characters in the opera—they ride in sedan chairs, while she rides in a carriage; the opera singer marries a martial arts champion, and the wedding procession is led by a civil scholar—Mo Lan feels that she is no less capable than them.

Xue Lingfeng is an exceptional person. If I hadn't taken advantage of the time travel, I would never have been able to attract him, let alone marry him.

Erlang is handsome, kind and honest, and a good older brother to me.

Although she is different from the characters in the opera, they are all equally joyful, which is why Mo Lan hummed to express her happiness.

The carriage finally stopped, and Mo Lan lowered her veil, sitting quietly inside. There was a commotion outside, but she couldn't make out what was being said.

After a while, she felt someone kick the carriage door; it must have been Xue Lingfeng.

Mo Lan was carried off the carriage by the matchmaker and carried all the way to the gate of the Mo family, because wealthy families believed that the bride's feet should not touch the ground.

A large crowd had gathered at the Xue family's gate. After the matchmaker placed Mo Lan on the red carpet, the steward instructed the servants to start scattering celebratory money.

The Xue family had a lot of lucky money, which they put into four containers and scattered in four batches, causing everyone to scramble for it.

Mo Lan held a red silk ribbon in one hand, and Xue Lingfeng held the other end of it as she followed him step by step into the building.

The Xue family is really generous; they've laid out a red carpet from the entrance all the way to the main house. It must have cost a lot of money, Mo Lan thought to herself.

Upon arriving at the main room, Mo Lan was helped to stand up by the matchmaker. She heard the officiant calling out, "First bow to heaven and earth." The matchmaker helped her bow, and she bowed; she was helped up, and she got up. She might as well be a puppet on a string today.

After bowing to heaven and earth, and to their parents, the couple bowed to each other, and then Mo Lan was helped to the bridal chamber.

Mo Lan sat on the new bed, and through her veil, she could see that the bed was covered in bright red.

Because of the veil, she didn't know if there was anyone else in the room. She figured there probably was, since usually someone would accompany the bride, and it wouldn't be possible to leave the bride alone in the room.

It doesn't matter whether Mo Lan is there or not, since she's not someone I know anyway. And she doesn't need to say anything.

Mo Lan shifted her back and neck; the phoenix crown was so heavy! It was giving her a headache and a sore neck. She longed to take it off, but Mo Lan held back. She knew she couldn't do it on her own; she could only endure it.
