Crossing Over to Yamada Love

Chapter 334 Denying Bai Qing'er

“Okay, I’ll ask someone to help me find it. Lanlan, is this really settled?” Chen Xuan asked Mo Lan.

"I haven't made any definitive statements with Bai Qing'er yet. Let me think about how to handle this when I get back. Personally, I don't want my brother to marry her. But whatever the outcome, we still have to buy this house." Mo Lan pondered for a moment before giving her opinion.

Chen Xuan nodded and said, "Alright, then think it over carefully. If you really feel it's not right, there's no need to force it. There are plenty of good girls out there, and I believe Erlang will understand. Also, Grandma has given us all the money, why doesn't she keep some for herself? I already have a shop, so I won't buy anything. Let Grandma keep some for herself."

Chen Xuan agreed, but declined Mo Mei's share. His family was doing well and had a lot of money, so he didn't want Mo Mei's share.

"Hehe, you should take it if it's offered to you. Don't be so polite. As long as you and my sister live happily together, that's all that matters. It's better than any house or shop." Mo Lan chuckled. Actually, she thought Chen Xuan and Mo Mei were the couple she liked the most.

When Chen Xuan heard her mention Mo Mei, he blushed slightly, and a gentle light shone in his eyes. Mo Lan felt incredibly warm and touched by this.

On her way home, Mo Lan pondered the matter carefully. She didn't particularly like Bai Qing'er, so how should she tell her family when she got back? Given their brief encounter, would her family disapprove? What would Erlang think? Should she really disregard Bai Qing'er's character just because Erlang liked her? Would she cause chaos at home?

After much deliberation, Mo Lan decided it was best to tell the truth. Upon arriving at the Mo family home, she recounted the meeting to her family without concealing anything, but she didn't voice her suspicions. These were, after all, just guesses and couldn't be taken seriously. She only said that the man was good-looking and filial, but had a somewhat strong personality. She worried that this personality might not be compatible with her family in the future.

After hearing this, everyone nodded and pondered for a moment. They finally decided not to rush into a decision and to investigate further. Marriage is a serious matter and must be carefully considered.

When no one was around, Mo Lan looked at Er Lang and asked, "Brother, do you really have to marry her?"

Erlang looked at his younger sister and knew that she must have some dissatisfaction with Bai Qing'er to ask such a question.

"Lan'er, tell me the truth, do you not like her?" Erlang asked his sister earnestly.

“Brother, in theory, it doesn’t matter whether I like her or not, because you and she will be living your lives together from now on. Only if the two of you are happy can you have a good life. We are all outsiders. But…” Mo Lan paused here.

“No! You’re not an outsider, Lan’er. If you don’t like her, there must be something wrong with her. If you don’t approve, and your mother doesn’t approve, then it’s fine if your brother doesn’t marry her. But you have to tell your brother what you think is wrong with her.” Erlang said very solemnly.

Mo Lan felt a warmth in her heart and smiled, "Brother, it's not that I don't like her, it's just that I feel she's too strong-willed. I always feel that she looks down on the people in our village, and I'm afraid that she and Mother won't get along in the future. If that happens, I'm afraid the family will be in chaos. You are the eldest grandson of this family. If your future wife can't be of one mind with this family, I'm afraid this family will never have peace."

After listening to Mo Lan's words, Er Lang fell into deep thought. He knew that his sister couldn't have made something up out of nothing. Could Bai Qing'er really be that kind of person? But why wasn't she like that in front of him? Or was he being blinded by something?

The girl is right. He is the eldest son in his family. If his future wife is not on the same page as his family, then there will be no good days for this family. He can't cause discord in the family just because he likes her. He needs to think about this matter carefully before making a decision.

"Don't worry, Lan'er, I'll think about this carefully. I'm the eldest son of the Mo family, and no matter who I marry in the future, I will stay with my parents. I won't stay alone in the town. If my wife can't do that, if she can't be filial to her parents and family, then she doesn't deserve to spend her life with me." Erlang spoke earnestly; he couldn't abandon his family for his wife.

"Alright, brother, I was just saying. Look how anxious you are. Think about it again, and let's observe for a while longer. Let's not rush to a conclusion. We have plenty of time," Mo Lan advised her brother.

Erlang nodded and smiled at Molan, but there was a hint of bitterness in that smile.

Afterwards, Mo Lan went to see Madam Wang again and told her her thoughts. After listening, Madam Wang also felt that Bai Qing'er was not a good match for Erlang.

"Lan'er, what do you think we should do about this?" Madam Wang asked her granddaughter for her opinion.

"Grandma, I can tell that although my brother said our family doesn't approve of him marrying, he's still quite upset. He's probably really interested. We can't rush this. If we reject him outright, I'm afraid he might develop some rebellious tendencies. Let's let him calm down and then hurry up and find him a good girl. Maybe he'll be more accepting then." Mo Lan shared her thoughts.

"Didn't you promise Bai Qing'er in town? What about this?" Wang asked, puzzled.

"Did I?" Mo Lan smiled slyly. "I only asked her about her plans after marriage and what her requirements were. I didn't say that our Mo family wanted to marry her. I didn't say anything for sure, so she can't blame me."

"You little rascal, you've got a lot of tricks up your sleeve. But you're right, a wife should be virtuous, we can't marry a bad one. In a few days, we'll go and look at a few more families. We need to choose carefully." Madam Wang didn't dare to be careless anymore and decided to take matters into her own hands and help her grandson choose a good one.

Mo Lan nodded. That night, few members of the Mo family slept well, as they were all thinking about Erlang.

The next day, Mo Lan got up and saw Er Lang. Er Lang looked a little haggard, obviously because he hadn't slept well the night before. He only ate a few bites of breakfast before saying he wasn't hungry and went back to his room to read. Looking at her somewhat listless brother, Mo Lan felt a pang of sadness and hoped that her second brother could recover soon.

Inside Wang's house, Qiu and Molan were both present. Qiu was saying that she wanted to take some time to go to town to see Bai Qing'er. If that didn't work out, she would quickly find someone else to marry so as not to delay Erlang's marriage.

Before Wang could speak, voices could be heard outside. Mo Lan went out to see what was happening and found that her maternal grandmother and aunt had arrived. She hurriedly went forward to greet them and welcomed them in.

When Qiu saw her mother, she was overjoyed at first, but when she saw her sister-in-law Qiu Huangshi, her face darkened and then returned to normal. Wang was very happy to see her in-laws and hurriedly offered them seats.

The group chatted warmly for a while. Wang asked Qiu to usher her mother and sister-in-law into her room. She knew why they had come, so she sent them to Qiu's room for easier conversation. Mo Lan glanced at Wang, who nodded. Mo Lan nodded and followed, worried that her mother's straightforward temper might lead to an argument with her aunt, which would be bad. It seemed one problem after another had arisen; Bai Qing'er's situation wasn't resolved yet, and her aunt had already come knocking again because of the Ye family's daughter.

Once inside, Qiu invited her mother and sister-in-law to sit on the kang (a heated brick bed), where Mo Lan poured them tea and served them dried fruit at a small table.

"Lan'er, you don't need to bother anymore. I'll talk to your mother for a bit. You go and play." Qiu Huangshi said, wanting Mo Lan to leave. She and Qiu Shi had something to talk about, and it wasn't convenient for Mo Lan to be there.

"Aunt, it's alright, I'm not busy. You two talk, I'll just add some water for you." Mo Lan smiled at her, as if she hadn't understood what she meant.

Mrs. Qiu didn't say anything. She knew her daughter was worried that she had a short temper and would speak harshly. So she decided to keep an eye on things from here. Anyway, her daughter was sensible, and there was nothing to hide from her, so she just let her listen.

When Qiu Huangshi saw that her sister was not speaking, she stopped looking at Mo Lan. Since it didn't matter anyway, she gently nudged her mother-in-law with her elbow, signaling her to speak.

Qiu Changshi was torn between her daughter and grandson, and her daughter-in-law. She wanted them both to be happy and didn't want any conflicts between them. However, she was also concerned about Erlang's marriage, so after thinking for a moment, she asked, "Son, how's Erlang's marriage going? I heard from Erjun that your sister-in-law recommended a marriage to you, but you didn't like it and instead took a fancy to a girl from the Bai family in town. Is that true?"

After hearing this, Qiu didn't hide anything and nodded, continuing, "Yes, that's right. Xuan'er introduced this Bai family girl to me. Lan'er went to see her and said she's quite pretty. I was thinking of going to see her that day, and if it turned out to be a good match, I would make it official and then go to tell you the good news, Mother. Who knew that Mother and Sister-in-law would come today? What a coincidence!"

Because Qiu was angry, she praised Bai Qing'er, mainly for Qiu Huangshi's benefit.

"Have you met Lanlan, my daughter? How did it go? Son, we can't just look at how pretty she is. In town, we also need to consider her character, right? If you marry someone who's a handful, you'll be worrying yourself sick. If you ask me, it's better to marry someone from a decent family." Qiu Changshi advised her daughter.

Qiu kept her head down and didn't speak; she didn't know what to say. She agreed with what her mother said, but she was currently holding a grudge against her sister-in-law, so she didn't know how to respond.

"Mother, please stop. My sister won't listen to you. Her mother-in-law is the sister of a marquis, and Erlang is a scholar. Their status is extraordinary. How could she possibly marry a peasant girl? Mother, my sister's surname is now Mo, not Qiu. She doesn't care about her family anymore. She treats us, her sisters-in-law, with utter contempt." Qiu Huangshi felt uncomfortable and, seeing that Qiu Shi was silent, assumed she was in the wrong and couldn't help but speak sarcastically.

To be honest, Qiu Huangshi was really upset. She had assured the other party that her sister would definitely agree to the marriage, but Qiu Shi disagreed without even giving a reason. She just had Mo Lan tell Qiu Erjun. What did that mean? Did she even care about her sister-in-law? Did she even care about her family? So today, Qiu Huangshi came with a belly full of anger to vent.
