Crossing Over to Yamada Love
Chapter 262 Returning Home on the 3rd Day
"Come on, daughter, let's go back and I'll cook for you." Madam Qiu pulled her daughter back. She couldn't stay in the bridal chamber with her eldest daughter, but her youngest daughter had been keeping her company the whole time, and she was truly grateful. She had to cook a nice meal to reward her daughter.
"Lanlan likes anything that Mother makes." Molan pulled Qiu's arm and leaned against her.
"My daughter is so close to me, and you and your sister are both my little darlings," Qiu said, patting Mo Lan with satisfaction. Everyone else laughed.
Wang helped Liu's mother, Qiu's mother, and the two elderly ladies out of the backyard. From then on, everything was the Chen family's business; no matter how good their relationship was, they couldn't get involved.
Upon reaching the front yard, Mo Changhai saw them and hurriedly stood up. He called over Mo Changhe, who was somewhat drunk, and had the Bai family father and son help Mo Quan and Mo Jin to their feet, then they walked back together.
Once home, everyone sat down. Mo Lan didn't ask Qiu Shi to prepare any food, but instead gave Granny Ma a wink, signaling her to get her something to eat.
Mo Changhe had drunk quite a bit of wine. He was happy to see his eldest daughter getting married today, and as her father-in-law, he had been toasted repeatedly, so he was now barely able to speak properly.
Qiu busied herself fetching water for him and making him tea to help him sober up. Afterward, she helped him onto the kang (a heated brick bed) to rest.
Mo Quan and Mo Jin were also chatting excitedly with the two old ladies on the kang (heated brick bed).
Wang stayed with Liu's mother, while Qiu's mother chatted away. The room was quite lively.
After a lively dinner, the two old ladies were about to leave. After seeing them off, Liu's mother and Qiu's family members also left. Mo Changhe then helped Mo Jin back inside, leaving only the Mo family members in the house. Everyone was somewhat silent. They didn't feel anything unusual normally, but now that there were fewer people in the house, it felt like something was missing, and they couldn't be happy.
"I wonder how Mei'er is doing?" Qiu said listlessly.
"She's married now, and she has her own life to live. You can't worry about her all the time. Don't think about it so much." Wang also missed Mo Mei, but as an elder, she had to advise her.
"Yes," Qiu replied, forcing herself to cheer up.
"Alright, everyone's had a long day, go and get some rest." Madam Wang waved her hand, signaling everyone to go and rest.
Everyone took their leave and went back to their rooms to spend the first night after Mo Mei left the Mo family.
The next morning, as soon as Mo Lan stepped out of the house, she saw her mother standing on a ladder in the yard, looking in the direction of the Chen family.
It was obvious that her mother was looking at her older sister, but she doubted whether she could actually see her.
"Mother, please come down quickly. Be careful not to fall," Mo Lan called out to Qiu Shi.
"Okay, I'm coming down now." Qiu replied from the ladder, glanced in that direction again, and then slowly climbed down. Actually, she hadn't seen anything; it was just her imagination.
"Lan'er, what's wrong with your mother? Before your sister got married, I hoped to find her a good husband. But now that she's married, I'm feeling conflicted, like a cat scratching at my heart. Sigh, I don't know what to do." Qiu Shi pulled her youngest daughter aside and expressed her feelings.
“Mother, please bear with it. My sister will be coming back to her parents’ home in three days. We live close by, but she can’t come back until those three days are up. After that, she can come every day, and then you won’t be so anxious. As for me, if I get married in the future, I might not be able to come back every day. Will you miss me?” Mo Lan and Qiu Shi changed the subject.
"Why wouldn't I miss her? What did you say? You can't come back every day? Why? That other house is so close, why don't you come back? Do you want your father to pick you up? I don't care, if you don't come back every day, I'll move to your in-laws' house and see if you come back then." Qiu's loud voice spoke to her daughter, which somewhat lessened her longing for her eldest daughter.
"What's wrong? Who are you picking up? Who's not coming back?" Mo Changhe happened to walk in from the front yard and answered Qiu's question.
“It’s all because of your daughter. She said she wouldn’t come back every day after getting married. I don’t care. If she doesn’t come back, you should go and pick her up,” Qiu complained to Mo Changhe.
"What? Mei'er said she's not coming back? When did she say that? I didn't know." Mo Changhe asked Qiu Shi in confusion.
Wang and Liu, who were standing at the entrance of the kitchen, couldn't help but laugh. These two were really good at interrupting.
"Who said Mei'er isn't coming back? I meant Lan'er," Qiu said helplessly. Little did she know her husband had misunderstood.
"Lan'er? Lan'er isn't married yet, so why are you bringing this up?" Mo Changhe asked, puzzled.
"That's right, she's not even married yet, and she's already not thinking about coming back," Qiu muttered.
Mo Lan had been secretly laughing. She finally managed to suppress her laughter and said, "Mother, you really are something. People are just joking with you, and you take it seriously. Besides, if I get pregnant and have a baby, I can still come back every day."
"Of course you can't come back every day. I'll come see you when it's time. What nonsense are you talking about, child? What do you mean by pregnant and having a baby? Is that something you should be saying? I'm not talking to you anymore, I'm going to cook." Qiu glared at Mo Lan and turned to go to the kitchen.
Seeing that her father also intended to lecture her, Mo Lan quickly said, "I'll go help Mother make breakfast," and slipped into the kitchen. Mo Changhe was left alone in the room, smiling to himself.
Before dawn, it was the third day. Qiu got up from the kang (a heated brick bed) and, together with Granny Ma, Aunt Bao, and Hua'er, began to tidy up the house inside and out. Although she knew that the Chen family knew what her house looked like, she couldn't help but make it bright and clean.
Mo Changhe also went to pick up Mo Jin. Li Shi wanted to come and get closer to them, but Da Lang didn't want to, so Mo Changhe ignored them. Cui Shi had recovered, but she was a bit listless and lacked energy. She wasn't as lively as before. When she saw Mo Changhe, she muttered a few words, but she didn't start cursing at him like she used to.
On the eighth time Qiu looked towards the door, Chen Xuan arrived with Mo Mei. Actually, it was still quite early, and it was unusual for them to return to their parents' home so early. Firstly, the two families lived close by, and secondly, Mo Mei was also anxious. So, after breakfast, she brought her things and came with Chen Xuan.
The items had already been taken by Qiu Xiaojun and the Bai family father and son and brought to the backyard. Mo Lan asked Aunt Bao to lead them to put them away.
Mo Lan looked at her sister. She had her hair styled in a married woman's style, her face was flushed, and she was wearing a red dress. She looked beautiful and charming. It seemed that she had been having a good time these past few days.
"Sister, brother-in-law is here," Mo Lan greeted with a smile.
"Yes." Chen Xuan replied with a smile, took out a tael of loose silver from his pocket and handed it to Mo Lan as a change of address fee.
Mo Lan accepted it with a smile, saying, "Thank you, brother-in-law."
"Quickly, come inside." Mo Changhe greeted his daughter and son-in-law with a joyful expression.
Upon entering the main room, Mo Quan and Wang Shi were seated in the main seats. Chen Xuan and Mo Mei knelt down and kowtowed in greeting.
Mo Quan and Wang Shi exchanged some words about marital harmony, then Mo Quan hurriedly got up and kowtowed to the elders of the Mo family. After exchanging greetings, Chen Xuan was officially recognized as the son-in-law of this family.
Mo Changhai and Mo Changhe waited to keep Chen Xuan company while he drank tea and chatted. Although Chen Xuan was a junior, he was a guest of honor, so they had to accompany him.
Mo Lan then pulled her shy older sister into Wang Shi's room to talk.
Wang, Liu, Qiu, Mo Mei, and Mo Lan closed the door and sat on the kang (a heated brick bed), all staring at Mo Mei.
"Mei'er, how are you? Is Xuan'er treating you well? Is your mother-in-law treating you well? Has she upset you?" Qiu asked anxiously. She had been worried sick these past two days and wished she could rush to the Chen family to see if her daughter was doing well.
Mo Mei didn't speak, but nodded as she observed the expressions on everyone's faces.
"Looking at Mei'er like this, things should be good." Madam Wang said with a smile. Time flies so fast; in the blink of an eye, her granddaughter is already married.
"Don't just nod! Tell me what's the best course of action! You're driving me crazy!" Mrs. Qiu was an impatient woman, and she was getting anxious seeing her daughter just nodding without saying anything.
"Mother, Brother Xuan treats me very well, and my mother-in-law treats me well too. She doesn't let me do anything, saying that she and the maid are there for me. My uncle and aunt are also good to me. I'm doing well over there, just not as comfortable as I am at home. But my husband's family is not the same as my own family, so don't worry, Mother. Don't worry about me." Mo Mei said shyly, afraid that her mother would be anxious.
"That's good, that's good." Qiu nodded in relief.
"Mei'er, we have to do what we're supposed to do. Do the chores in the kitchen and the rooms, whatever you can. We can't let anyone find fault with us." Qiu Shi had just felt relieved when she started instructing her daughter again.
"Oh, Mother, don't worry, I know what I'm doing. After these three days, I'll do whatever I need to do. I can't let my mother-in-law serve me." Mo Mei quickly agreed. She wasn't lazy; she wouldn't do nothing.
“Mei is a sensible girl,” Wang nodded.
"Lan'er, go check if the food is ready. Your mother is going to have a few words with your sister, but you mustn't eavesdrop." Qiu Shi shooed Mo Lan away.
"What are you saying behind my back? I want to hear it too." Mo Lan said deliberately, but she knew exactly what her mother was going to say.
"Go away, you're an unmarried girl, what are you listening to? When you get married, your mother will naturally tell you." Qiu Shi sternly dismissed Mo Lan.
Mrs. Wang chuckled to herself. What didn't her little granddaughter understand? She'd heard that her granddaughter had already been married in her past life. She knew a lot.
Mo Lan secretly pursed her lips. "Fine, I'll go urge them to eat." She jumped off the kang (heated brick bed), went out, and closed the door. She thought to herself: It's just asking about things in the bedroom, what's so secret about it?
Mo Lan muttered to herself as she entered the kitchen. Seeing Granny Ma and the others busy at work, she lent a hand and helped prepare the dishes.
Lunch was prepared in abundance. Granny Ma showed off her culinary skills, making many dishes that the Mo family's shop didn't have. Mo Lan nodded as she watched. She had made the right choice in hiring this old woman. Not only was she clean, but she also cooked well. In addition, she was very honest and didn't talk too much, which was a good thing in the Mo family's eyes. However, this might also be the reason why she couldn't climb up the social ladder in wealthy families. She didn't know how to speak well or flatter people, so it was difficult for her to rise in the ranks.
Aunt Bao is also very capable. Although she can't cook any fancy dishes, she can still cook the everyday ones. More importantly, she is hardworking and always volunteers to do the rough and tiring work.
