Rebirth and Rewriting Fate

Chapter 88 Exchange

After finishing breakfast, Gu Ruoxiao asked, "How did yesterday's arrangements go?"

"Reporting to Master, Ji Bai has already headed to Xuejiabao to make preparations," Chi Wu replied.

"Miss, shall I go with you?" Mo Han asked worriedly.

Yun Chu patted her hand. "Even if I wanted you to go, they wouldn't agree. Don't worry, I'll be fine."

Gu Ruoxiao sat beside Yun Chu, holding her hand without saying a word.

"Master, it's time to set off," Chengfeng had to remind him.

"Let's go." Yun Chu stood up.

"I think I should..." Gu Ruoxiao wanted to change her mind again.

"You said it's your business and I'll make the decision," Yun Chu interrupted him, took his hand, and led him out the door.

Gu Ruoxiao sighed and tightened her grip on Yun Chu's hand.

The carriage traveled for nearly an hour before arriving at Twin Peaks, the location chosen by the people of Dongchi. As the name suggests, Twin Peaks consists of two tall mountains connected by a suspension bridge. The only way to reach one of the peaks is by the suspension bridge, or one can climb from the foot of the mountain.

When Yun Chu and Gu Ruoxiao learned that the exchange location was at Twin Peaks, they had already wondered how the people of Dongchi could know the terrain so well. They suspected that the person behind this was no ordinary person.

Yun Chu and Gu Ruoxiao got off the carriage. "Master, they have arrived," Chengfeng reported.

A group of people were gathered on the opposite mountain peak, and Shangguan Wan'er was among them.

"Your Highness Prince Jin, have you brought the person?" someone shouted from the other side.

"Then where are the people we need?" Sui Bo quickly interjected.

Someone pushed Shangguan Wan'er out from the opposite side. Her hands were tied behind her back, and a piece of cloth was stuffed in her mouth. She looked relatively neat.

"Let's exchange them without delay!" the other side shouted.

The opposing side set up their bows, while Sui Bo arranged for his guards to be on high alert.

“I’m going,” Yun Chu said.

Gu Ruoxiao subconsciously grabbed her hand, "Yun Chu." His eyes were filled with reluctance and worry.

"Don't worry." She pried Gu Ruoxiao's hand off and stepped onto the suspension bridge.

Meanwhile, Shangguan Wan'er was also pushed onto the suspension bridge.

The people of Dongchi sounded their horns.

Yun Chu took a deep breath and walked forward. Shangguan Wan'er was also walking towards her step by step. They met in the middle of the suspension bridge, and Yun Chu tore the rag out of her mouth.

"Why did you come!" Shangguan Wan'er asked. "You shouldn't have come."

Yun Chu smiled at her, "I'm here to repay that fool's favor."

Shangguan Wan'er looked at her in confusion.

Whoosh! An arrow shot straight into the wooden plank in front of them, and the two of them turned their heads to look in the direction from which the arrow had come.

"What are you doing!" came Sui Bo's angry roar from not far away.

"What are you dawdling for! Hurry up!" Dongchi's leader roared, putting down his bow.

Yun Chu nodded to Shangguan Wan'er, and then walked towards the people in Dongchi.

Seeing this, Shangguan Wan'er could only run quickly toward Gu Ruoxiao.

Gu Ruoxiao's side caught Shangguan Wan'er. Seeing this, Dongchi's side threw out a rope and pulled Yun Chu over.

"Set it on fire, burn the suspension bridge!" the Dongchi man ordered.

Gu Ruoxiao was stopped by Chiwu as she rushed forward. "Master, think about what Miss Yun Chu said."

"Chase them down the mountain!" Gu Ruoxiao ordered.

Shangguan Wan'er, who had just been untied, rushed to Gu Ruoxiao. "Your Highness, you actually sent her to exchange for me! You actually did it? What do you take her affection for? Don't make me look down on you!"

After saying that, Shangguan Wan'er mounted her horse. She had to go down the mountain to borrow troops from her maternal grandfather. There couldn't be any trouble on the border, and Yun Chu couldn't be in any danger either.

Gu Ruoxiao watched the crowd opposite him disappear into the firelight. He clenched his fists and prayed in his heart, "Yun Chu, you must not be hurt."

After Yun Chu was taken away by Dongchi's men, she was searched, her hands and feet were tied, her eyes were covered with a cloth, and a rag was stuffed into her mouth before she was thrown into a carriage.

After traveling for most of the day, the carriage stopped at a farmhouse at nightfall. Yun Chu was taken down and thrown into the woodshed. The foreman instructed the guards, "Keep a close eye on them; the master and distinguished guests will be arriving soon."

"Master and distinguished guest?" Yun Chu pondered to herself. It seemed there really were two groups. The distinguished guest's group was most likely from Jin, colluding with a foreign enemy—truly a traitor and colluding with their own people. Yun Chu cursed inwardly.

With a creak, the door was pushed open, and someone walked in.

Yun Chu listened intently to the sounds, though she couldn't see anything at the moment.

"It's been a long time, my Chen'er," the visitor said.

Yun Chu's eyes widened instantly, and the hairs on her body stood on end. Her hands clenched tightly as she struggled to suppress the trembling in her heart.

She would never forget that voice, even in death.

"Oh dear, I forgot you can't see or speak, can you?" the person in front of me said sarcastically.

He reached out and pulled off the cloth covering Yun Chu's eyes, then removed the rag from her mouth.

The light seeped in with a soft yet slightly dazzling intensity, gradually clearing my vision and making the outlines of objects appear three-dimensional. The person in front of me was now clearly visible.

Yun Chu closed her eyes again. Gu Chengjie—he was still alive, standing right in front of her. Yes, the one who knew the terrain of the Great Jin Dynasty and knew the treasure map was indeed him. She had once suspected him, but she had been convinced by her own sense of luck.

But so what if it was him? She would still proceed according to her plan, her resolve unwavering. The worst that could happen was dying again. But this time, she was reluctant. She had only just started dating Gu Ruoxiao; she didn't want to give up.

"Or should I call you Yun Chu?" Gu Chengjie asked, sitting on a wooden chair in the woodshed, looking down at her.

Yun Chu rolled her eyes at him and didn't say anything.

"I heard you're hooking up with Luo Yan now? You were shamelessly fawning over me before, then you got entangled with Xiao Ba, and now it's Luo Yan. You really are a fickle woman!" Gu Chengjie was still rambling on.

Yun Chu was too lazy to pay attention to him; such talk was nothing more than a man's possessiveness at play.

Seeing that Yun Chu was ignoring him, Gu Chengjie became somewhat angry. "Where is the treasure?"

Yun Chu rolled her eyes at him. "Didn't I already give it to you?"

"You're lying to me! Dragon's Roar Grass can't be used to untie it." He squatted down, stretched out a large hand, and mercilessly grabbed her chin with such force that he almost crushed her jawbone.

Yun Chu groaned in pain, a hint of despair flashing in her eyes, but she still tried her best to remain calm and refused to show weakness in front of him.

"Tell me! Where exactly is the treasure hidden?" Gu Chengjie's voice was low and hoarse, each word sounding like it came from the depths of hell, carrying an undeniable threat. He shook Yun Chu's head forcefully, forcing her to look him in the eye, his eyes flashing with bloodthirsty excitement.

Yun Chu closed her eyes, forcing herself to calm down. She thought of Gu Ruoxiao, the one who supported her beliefs.

"How can you treat our guests like this?" A cold voice came from outside the door, and a person stepped in.
