Rebirth and Rewriting Fate

Chapter 39 Shot by an Arrow

A few days later, Luo Yan brought some news.

"His Highness doesn't know what agreement he reached with the Second Prince of the Northern Region. The Second Prince of the Northern Region provided letters between Gu Chengjie and the Third Prince of the Northern Region, suggesting that he was also involved in the autumn hunt. His Majesty is furious, and he is now under house arrest in the palace."

In her past life, this step wasn't there. Something was wrong, Yun Chu pondered. However, nowadays, many things are no longer on the planned track.

"Yun Chu, Yun Chu." Luo Yan saw her in a daze and quickly asked, "Are you feeling unwell?"

"It's nothing, I'm just hungry."

"Miss is hungry, it's time to eat! Everyone, come and help!" Nan Rao carried the dishes into the dining room.

Inside the Prince's Mansion.

"It seems like it's been a long time since Master met with Ye, no, Miss Yun Chu, right? To be honest, I'm not used to it." Chengfeng said, squatting on the big tree outside the study, looking at Gu Ruoxiao on the desk.

"Your Highness is busy with many matters," Chiwu said succinctly beside him.

"Actually, the prince and Miss Yun Chu are quite a good match. Miss Yun Chu can tell what the prince is thinking with just a glance."

A servant's voice came from under the tree, "Your Highness, Miss Shangguan has arrived."

Chengfeng continued, "But Miss Shangguan is not bad either. She comes from a family of doctors with a good family tradition, unlike the Ye family, tsk tsk tsk."

The more gossipy they became, the more excited they got. "Last time, didn't you hear it too? Miss Yun Chu said that my future wife would be Shangguan Wan'er, and I didn't deny it. Tell me, could it be that I like Shangguan Wan'er?"

"Shut your mouth." Chiwu rolled his eyes at Chengfeng.

“By the way, the place where we stayed before I passed Qiushui Lane yesterday is now where Miss Yun Chu is staying, right?” Chengfeng asked, turning his head.

"Shut up." The next second, Chengfeng was kicked off the treetop.

The news from earlier that day surprised Yun Chu. In her previous life, Gu Chengjie hadn't been confined to the palace. Given Gu Chengjie's current mindset, he should be keeping a low profile and biding his time. As long as Gu Chengjie didn't give up, it would ultimately be like raising a tiger to cause trouble. Besides, he still hadn't avenged the grudge from Xiyan Mountain. Yun Chu thought to herself as she wiped her dagger.

With a thud, a sound came from outside. It was late at night, and no one should be visiting so late. Yun Chu cautiously slipped the dagger into her sleeve pocket, got up, and went out of the house.

At this moment, the area outside was already in a state of high alert.

The newcomer was Xi Yue, Gu Chengjie's subordinate and the top expert in the Northern Region. At this moment, he was holding Zhu Ling hostage.

Judging from this situation alone, they have no chance of winning.

"Quickly, Ye Xingchen, come with me!" Gu Chengjie said hurriedly when he saw Yun Chu.

"Miss, don't listen to him. I'd rather die than let you go with me," Zhu Ling said loudly.

Yun Chu sensed something was wrong, frowned, and asked, "Where are we going?"

"Let's go to the southwest and find some medicinal herbs."

Yun Chu instantly understood. Perhaps with her by his side, Gu Chengjie could decipher the parchment scroll more quickly. After all, apart from her estrangement from him, she was no different. And what he perceived as estrangement was the Eighth Prince's involvement.

Bloodstains had already appeared on Zhu Ling's neck.

“Okay, I’ll go with you.” Yun Chu stepped forward.

"No, Miss!" the crowd cried out.

"Let her go, and I'll go with you."

Gu Chengjie gestured to Xi Yue to release the people, then stepped forward and pulled Yun Chu away.

The three of them went out and got into the carriage, which sped through the night.

"What should we do? What should we do now? Let's go find Lord Luo," Zhu Ling said, crying.

“Lord Luo cannot directly mobilize military power,” Nan Rao said decisively. “I will go to the Prince.”

"But Miss and the Prince haven't seen each other for a long time. Will he save Miss?"

"How about we report it to the authorities? Would that be faster?" Xu Li suggested.

“In that case, we’ll split into three groups and go find reinforcements,” Nan Rao said bluntly.

After everyone nodded in unison, they dispersed.

The carriage sped through the night. It was already late at night, and all around was quiet except for the occasional cry of a night bird in the distance, which added to the sense of loneliness and desolation.

At this moment, Gu Chengjie was earnestly playing the role of his devoted lover. He held Yun Chu's hand and said, "You have suffered before. But don't be afraid. Once we reach the southwest, find the Dragon's Roar Grass, and obtain the treasure, we can make a comeback."

Yun Chu silently withdrew her hand. She felt the dagger hidden in her sleeve through her clothes, calculating that with Xi Yue outside, in this situation, she might be finished before she could even make a move against Gu Chengjie. She couldn't confront him head-on; she had to act according to the circumstances. Having made up her mind, Yun Chu calmed herself.

"Master, there are roadblocks ahead," Xi Yue said.

"Charge forward, we can't worry about anything else," Gu Chengjie said.

Soon, Yun Chu sensed a large number of soldiers chasing after her from behind.

The carriage sped along the mountain range, shaking off its pursuers, and stopped in an open area on the side of the mountain. Beyond that was the summit, and on the other side lay a body of water. To escape, they would have to take the waterway, but below was a cliff. Gu Chengjie wondered what to do. Yun Chu mentally calculated their positions.

"Wait a moment," Xi Yue said, heading to find the rope on the cliff edge. "Once the rope arrives, we can go down."

This might be my chance. Yun Chu pondered, then pulled her sleeves tighter and gripped the dagger hidden within.

With a whoosh, an iron sword pierced the ground before them. Someone had arrived.

Gu Chengjie immediately pulled her to his chest to shield her, and grabbed Yun Chu's neck with his hand.

The newcomer was none other than Gu Ruoxiao, who, as dashing as ever, sat as atop his horse. He held a bow in his hand. This was the first time Yun Chu had seen him in so long; his eyes remained unfathomable, unfathomable and enigmatic.

"Fourth Prince, surrender!" Major General Xu shouted.

"Uncle, let me go! Or I'll kill her!" Gu Chengjie roared. His hand gripped the throat of the person in front of him tightly. They retreated to the edge of the cliff.

"I remember you used to be on good terms with her, didn't you? Are you willing to do that?" Gu Ruoxiao sneered.

Yun Chu never doubted that Gu Chengjie would not kill her; he was the kind of person who would sacrifice everything for her.

"Besides, what does her life have to do with me?" Gu Ruoxiao said, drawing another arrow and aiming it at Yun Chu. He narrowed his eyes slightly.

Soon, the arrow shot out with a whoosh, passing through Yun Chu's shoulder and also through Gu Chengjie's shoulder and arm.

This is it. Yun Chu thought. Enduring the excruciating pain, she turned around, drew a dagger from her sleeve, and stabbed it. "Gu Chengjie, I will avenge everyone from Xiyan Mountain!" She pulled the knife out and stabbed again. "This stab is for myself." Yun Chu pulled the knife out again.

Gu Chengjie stared at Yun Chu with disbelief in his eyes.

A sudden, eerie wind arose on the cliff, howling fiercely.

Gu Chengjie fell straight down the cliff.

Yun Chu coughed up blood and collapsed to her knees, unable to hold on any longer. She thought she would be greeted by the cold earth, but instead she fell into a warm embrace, her heavy eyelids unable to open again.

"Yun Chu, Yun Chu!" Gu Ruoxiao called out urgently. He had calculated the distance and the force, but he hadn't anticipated Yun Chu's resolute decision. He galloped over from his horse, only managing to catch her falling figure in time.

When Luo Yan reached the mountainside, he saw Gu Ruoxiao shoot an arrow through two people. He rushed forward but only managed to brush past Gu Ruoxiao and receive the prince's order, "The rest is up to Lord Luo. You must find them!"
