Rebirth and Rewriting Fate
Chapter 37 Going Home
The carriage stopped in front of a house. Now that he was no longer with the Ye family, Ye Xingchen could not go back.
“Miss, this is the house that Sister Nanrao found. Although it’s not very big, it’s big enough for us to live in,” Zhu Ling explained.
Ping An and Xu Li had already gotten out of the car and brought out a large brazier from behind the door. Zhu Ling hurriedly took the mugwort.
"Miss, come quickly, let's get rid of this bad luck."
Ye Xingchen smiled as she looked at them. Gu Ruoxiao was right; I had to think about them.
Stepping through the gate, Ping An excitedly introduced the layout of the courtyard.
“Miss, let’s keep calling this courtyard Qingfeng Courtyard! That’s the kitchen over there, and the storeroom is next to it. Next to that is where my brother and I live, which is close to the gate so we can protect everyone. That’s the dining room, and then the study. Miss, that room has the best light; it’s your boudoir. One of the two rooms behind is where Sister Nanrao and Sister Zhuling live, and the other one is currently empty.”
"Ping An, stop talking now and come help with the fire. Miss needs to take a bath later," Zhu Ling called out. "Miss, you and Lord Luo, please sit on the bamboo chairs over there and rest for a while."
Ye Xingchen looked around. Xu Li was busy tending the fire in the kitchen, Nan Rao was bending over washing rice, and Zhu Ling went into the room to prepare.
Although the courtyard is small, it is filled with the warmth and life of home. In one corner, a sturdy old banyan tree stands tall, its branches and leaves lush and verdant. Sunlight filters through the sparse leaves, casting dappled shadows and adding a touch of vibrancy to the tranquil courtyard. In another corner, a round bamboo table and several small wicker stools are placed quietly. On the table sits a plate of freshly picked fruit and a few cups of light tea, exuding a delicate fragrance that evokes the warmth and peace of home.
As the sun set, a gentle sunset glow appeared on the horizon, bathing the entire courtyard in a golden hue.
"Although the courtyard is small, it has everything you need," Luo Yan praised beside him.
Ye Xingchen smiled, a genuine smile from the bottom of her heart.
"Then, Miss Ye, please rest well. I'll take my leave now," Luo Yan said.
"You can call me Yun Chu."
"Yun Chu?" Luo Yan asked in surprise.
"Hmm." She nodded.
"Then you shouldn't call me Lord Luo anymore, just call me Luo Yan, okay?" Luo Yan asked.
"Luo Yan."
When he sent Luo Yan out of the hospital, he hesitated for a moment and said, "Actually, the reason you were able to get out this time is thanks to the prince capturing that eunuch."
Yun Chu nodded knowingly. Remembering something, she quickly asked, "What about the peace talks between the two sides?"
"Peace talks are on hold for now, but war won't break out either. There's internal strife in the Northern Kingdom, and they'll be returning tomorrow," Luo Yan said quietly. "This case might involve the Fourth Prince; I'm still investigating." He paused. "Between you and the Fourth Prince..." He didn't finish his sentence, but Yun Chu already knew what he meant.
“I have nothing to do with him anymore,” Yun Chu gave a clear answer.
"That's good." Luo Yan's lips curled up slightly.
Closing the courtyard gate, this place becomes a different world. Now that she is far away from the Ye family mansion, the royal marriage contract is over. Could she gain some freedom in return? Yun Chu thought to herself. Now she is Yun Chu, and she only wants to be Yun Chu.
As night fell, the four of them knelt down before Yun Chu.
"What are you doing? Get up!" she said, hurriedly pulling at them.
"The Ye family has returned all the indentures to us." Nan Rao handed over a box containing four release papers.
Yun Chu looked at them and said, "Why are you giving me this contract instead of sending it to the authorities?"
"This is something Miss risked her life for," Zhu Ling said, crying.
"It's not that serious."
"We want to be the young lady's maids and servants for the rest of our lives," Zhu Ling sobbed.
"But I don't want to." As soon as she finished speaking, all four of them looked up at Yun Chu.
“Miss, you don’t want us anymore.” This time it was Ping An who spoke up.
Yun Chu laughed, "Listen to me, go to the government office tomorrow to cancel your slave status, and from now on we'll still be together, no distinction of rank, just brothers and sisters, okay?"
Everyone agreed.
"What a touching scene of master and servant affection!" a voice interjected.
Xu Li quickly stood up and stood in front of Yun Chu to protect her.
"The Second Prince?" Yun Chu asked in surprise.
"You all go out, I have something to say to her." The Second Prince of the Northern Region, Surituge, pointed at Yun Chu.
"No way," Ping An was the first to object.
"Do you think you guys can beat me?" He rolled his eyes.
"You can leave now, he won't hurt me," Yun Chu said.
“Miss,” Zhu Ling said nervously, “the door needs to be open.” She bravely called out to the other person.
Surituge chuckled, and finally opened the door.
Surituge looked around, surveying the simple yet cozy boudoir. It was plain and simple, without any of the colorful girly things. His intuition told him that this girl was different.
"What does the Second Prince want with me?" Yun Chu's voice was tinged with curiosity.
"My sister Wang wants to see you."
"Huh?" Yun Chu asked, puzzled.
"We're returning to the Northern Region tomorrow, and my sister Wang hopes you can see us off; she wants to see you."
"Why?"
Surituge didn't answer. Yun Chu pressed, "Are you inviting me?"
The other person suddenly seemed a little uncomfortable. "Come if you want, don't come if you don't!"
He paused for a moment, then said, "I'll come pick you up tomorrow." With that, he darted away.
"Hey!"
Yun Chu looked at the person who appeared out of nowhere and then mysteriously disappeared, and shook her head helplessly.
In her previous life, the princess of the Northern Region died tragically in the Great Jin Dynasty, and she had no connection with the second prince of the Northern Region. Could things be starting to change? She pondered, hoping that everything would get better.
At 9:00 AM the next day, the Second Prince of the Northern Region, Surituge, stood like a god in Qingfeng Courtyard. The others, gathered at Yun Chu's door, dared not approach.
Yun Chu sighed. This person was completely different from the fierce and menacing figure she had been in the prison cell that day.
"Today, the Great Jin Dynasty held a send-off ceremony. Why didn't you go?" she couldn't help but ask.
"My envoy from the Northern Region died in the Great Jin Dynasty. I still have to save face!" Tug said indifferently.
Yun Chu shook her head. "Let's go."
In a pavilion on the western outskirts of the capital, two people could be seen sitting in the distance; they must be the princess of the Northern Region and her consort.
"Greetings, Princess." She quickly bowed.
"No need for formalities," the Northern Princess said with a smile. "Tug has already told me about the poisoned wine. Thank you."
"Your Highness is too kind," Yun Chu said with a smile.
"Your injury?" the princess asked.
"It's all over now."
"Then I'm relieved. Your name is Ye..." Perhaps remembering something, the Northern Princess stopped, and an unnatural expression appeared on her face.
"Princess, you may call me Yun Chu."
“Yun Chu?” The princess thought for a moment. “Then your name is the same as Tu Ge’s, both meaning hope.”
"Tsk!" Tug made a disdainful sound.
"Today, Yun Chu wishes the princess a safe journey and swift success." The princess smiled, understanding the meaning behind these words.
The princess of the Northern Region patted Yun Chu's hand, "Come visit the Northern Region when you have time. Although resources are scarce, the Northern Region is vast and the scenery is beautiful!"
“Okay. I’ll definitely go when I have the chance.” Yun Chu replied with a smile. As a child, she had traveled all over the country with her mother, but she had never set foot in the Northern Region. It must be a nice place to have a princess as straightforward and bold as the Northern Region princess. Of course, Tuge doesn’t count.
With a snap, Tuge tossed over a waist token, casually adding, "Take this to the Northern Region, and no one will dare bully you."
I intended to return it, but then I thought that the future was uncertain, so it might be better to keep it to save my life.
"Then thank you very much, Second Prince." Yun Chu shook the token in her hand.
Tug clicked his tongue, turned around, and left.
In the marching procession, the Northern Princess called out to Tuge, "What's up? You have an idea? I think Miss Yun Chu is quite remarkable. She's smart and brave enough."
"Sister Wang, what nonsense are you talking about?"
"Sister Wang didn't say anything, she was just curious because you gave away your personal waist token," the Northern Princess teased.
"Giddy up!" Tug spurred his horse forward. He thought that he had only investigated her affairs and felt that she was different. In any case, the Northern Region and the Great Jin were so far apart that they would probably never meet again.
