Legendary Person: I brought my skills back to reality!
Chapter 50 The first day at work
The car stopped downstairs in the familiar residential area. Su Qing dragged her tired body out of the car. The cool autumn wind made her wrap her coat tighter.
As soon as she stepped into the house, a familiar aroma of food wafted over. In the living room, Su Shizhong was sitting on the sofa reading a newspaper. Hearing the noise, he quickly put down the newspaper, looked up at Su Qing, and his cloudy eyes were full of love and worry.
"Xiao Qing, you're back? Come on in! Let Daddy see you!" Su Shizhong said, getting up to help Su Qing with her luggage.
Su Qing quickly stopped her father: "Dad, I can do it myself, please sit down."
Looking at his daughter's gaunt face, Su Shizhong felt heartbroken: "Why have you lost so much weight? Are you not eating or sleeping well over there? No matter how busy you are with work, you must take good care of yourself."
Su Qing forced a smile: "Dad, I'm fine, don't worry."
Su Shizhong sighed. He knew his daughter's personality of only reporting good news and not bad news, so he didn't press her further. He simply said, "Go wash your hands and get ready to eat. It's perfect timing. I had your auntie make your favorite braised fish today."
At the dinner table, Su Shizhong kept putting food into Su Qing's bowl and asked her about her recent situation with concern. Su Qing answered half-heartedly, but her heart felt as heavy as if a huge rock was pressing down on it.
“Xiao Qing,” Su Shizhong put down his chopsticks, his tone becoming serious, “your illness…”
Su Qing's hand holding the chopsticks trembled slightly. She knew what her father was going to say. Ever since she had encountered the young man with the alchemy formula at the Chinese medicine market, her father had been thinking about him constantly and had asked around, hoping to find him.
The father was convinced that the young man must know a famous doctor who could cure her "illness".
"Dad, I know my own body, so please don't worry about it." Su Qing lowered her head, her tone tinged with helplessness and bitterness.
"How can you talk like that, child!" Su Shizhong said, somewhat displeased. "I'm just worried about you. Don't worry, I've been practicing traditional Chinese medicine my whole life. The prescription that young man brought is definitely extraordinary! It's not a prescription for medicine! It's a prescription for elixirs! Do you understand what an elixir is? Although it may not be the right prescription for your symptoms, the doctor who wrote it can definitely cure you!"
Looking at the determination and hope in her father's eyes, Su Qing felt a mix of emotions. She desperately wanted to tell him the truth, to tell him that her injuries weren't ordinary ailments, but rather the result of fighting those terrifying monsters, something no renowned doctor could cure. But she couldn't; she couldn't drag her father into this dangerous vortex.
“Dad, really, it’s not necessary…” Su Qing wanted to persuade him again, but Su Shizhong interrupted her.
"Alright, don't worry about this anymore. Just focus on getting better." Su Shizhong's tone left no room for argument. "Here, eat some more fish to nourish your body."
Su Qing silently lowered her head and ate the fish in her bowl bit by bit, but her heart felt like a jumble of emotions, a mixture of sour, sweet, bitter, spicy, and salty.
The morning sunlight streamed through the gaps in the curtains, falling on Xu Hao and Lin Ya's faces and waking the loving couple. They lingered in bed for a while before reluctantly getting out of bed.
After washing up, Xu Hao arrived at Zhongtian International once again.
Shi Shaowei was already waiting in the lobby. When he saw him, he gave him a friendly smile: "You're here? Come on, let me show you around first."
Xu Hao nodded, suppressing his nervousness, and followed Shi Shaowei into the elevator. The elevator car was made of silver-gray metal, and the bright overhead lights illuminated the surroundings as if it were daytime. He noticed that in addition to the usual floor numbers on the elevator buttons, there were some special symbols, like some kind of ancient script or mysterious patterns. He was puzzled but dared not ask any questions, and could only silently memorize the shapes of these symbols.
The elevator ascended smoothly, much faster than a regular elevator, without any sense of weightlessness. Xu Hao secretly glanced at Shi Shaowei and found him to be completely unfazed, seemingly used to it all.
With a soft "ding," the elevator doors slid open to the sides. Xu Hao took a deep breath and stepped out.
Stepping out of the elevator, you enter a spacious corridor with a dark red carpet and off-white walls, creating a solemn and dignified atmosphere. Every few meters along both sides of the corridor hangs a black-and-white photograph, each depicting a man or woman in uniform, their expressions resolute and their eyes piercing, as if they are watching the passersby.
Xu Hao's gaze was drawn to the photos. He slowed his pace and carefully examined each one. The people in the photos ranged in age from young to old, men and women, but without exception, their eyes revealed a resolute determination to face death.
“These are all…” Xu Hao pointed at the photos, his voice trembling slightly. He vaguely guessed the story behind these photos, but he couldn’t believe it.
“These are all warriors who have sacrificed their lives in the fight against the supernatural over the years.” Shi Shaowei’s tone was heavy, with a hint of sadness and respect. “These are brothers and sisters from the ZZ branch of the Supernatural Management Bureau who have sacrificed their lives on the front lines over the years. They all gave their precious lives to protect humanity.”
Xu Hao felt a chill run down his spine, filled with profound respect. Looking at the photos, he seemed to see the soldiers battling the supernatural, their fearless and valiant figures, and the moment they fell in pools of blood. A surge of admiration welled up within him, but at the same time, he felt a wave of unease. He finally truly understood the nature of the Bureau of Supernatural Affairs' work, the incredibly high casualty rate, and gained a new understanding of the inherent danger of this job.
Seriously. They're risking their lives!
He followed Shi Shaowei into a conference room at the end of the corridor. The conference room was simply furnished, with a rectangular conference table in the middle, on which a projector and documents were placed.
Shi Shaowei gestured for Xu Hao to sit down, turned on the projector, and a world map immediately appeared on the wall, marked with dense red dots.
"In 1978, in an ordinary apartment building in New York City, a housewife suddenly went mad, murdered her husband and children, and then committed suicide. This was the first recorded instance of such a bizarre event in human history." Shi Shaowei pointed to a red dot on a map of North America, his voice low and somber.
"Initially, people thought it was just a simple murder case, but as similar incidents continued to occur, people realized that something terrible seemed to have happened in this world..."
The images on the projector kept switching, showing a series of horrific scenes: Tokyo, a crowded plaza, suddenly the ground shook, and countless black tentacles poured out of the cracks, rapidly spreading outwards. Panic gripped the crowd; the tentacles grabbed anything living and dragged it underground, turning the plaza into chaos in an instant. Screams and cries mingled together.
In New York, students were assembling on a school playground when suddenly a massive black hole appeared in the sky, and countless bizarre creatures poured down from it. They varied in shape, some resembling giant insects, others like rotting humans. Students scattered in panic, but the monsters were incredibly fast, plunging the scene into desperate chaos, and blood stained the entire playground.
In Johannesburg, the tranquil countryside was suddenly transformed into a scene of utter terror. Hordes of ghostly figures rose from the ground, covering the entire sky. Their faces were pale and twisted, emitting piercing screams. The villagers hid in their homes in terror, but to no avail. The monsters burst through the windows, and the village was instantly transformed into a living hell, filled with screams and the stench of blood.
……
"Are all these caused by something strange?" Xu Hao's voice was a little hoarse.
