Divorced at fifty, I embarked on my path to success.
Chapter 77 Longing
As Mei Yusheng listened to the dial tone, her mind was in turmoil, and all sorts of thoughts came rushing to her mind.
What is Yuejiang Pavilion planning to do?
Is he really going to do something bad?
She nervously pulled out Qin Chu's phone number and dialed it.
The phone rang for a long time without being answered, which made her even more panicked.
Since I met Qin Chu, he has always answered the phone and replied to messages promptly.
Did Yue Jiangting do something to him already, and was he just calling to try and find out her feelings one last time?
She immediately regretted it, wishing she had agreed to Yue Jiangting's request. She didn't want the money or the villa; she was willing to leave with nothing to allow Yue Jiangting and Han Caiyu to be together.
As long as Qin and Chu remain safe and sound!
She sent a message to Qin Chu, warning him to be careful, as Yue Jiangting might be a threat to him, and told him to reply immediately upon seeing the message!
Clutching her phone tightly, she paced around the living room twice before suddenly remembering Qin Zhan and immediately calling him.
No one answered!
She was completely panicked.
Why aren't Qin Chu and Qin Zhan answering their phones?
What happened in the end?
She really wanted to call Yue Jiangting again, lower herself and beg him, saying she would agree to any condition as long as he didn't hurt Qin Chu.
Her fingers trembled as she scrolled through her call history. Just as she was about to tap, her phone suddenly rang loudly, startling her.
Upon seeing the name Qin Chu, I felt a surge of joy.
"Little Stone, are you alright?" Mei Yusheng asked impatiently.
"Sister, I'm fine, don't worry. I was talking to my uncle about something and didn't have time to answer the phone."
Upon hearing Qin Chu's voice, Mei Yusheng felt a huge weight lifted off her shoulders and was so excited she almost cried: "I was so scared! I'm so glad you're alright. Did you see the message I sent you?"
"I hadn't had a chance to check yet. As soon as I saw your number, I was afraid you'd worry, so I called you right away." Qin Chu chuckled softly, his voice clear and gentle, like a spring breeze that soothed the restlessness of the rainy season.
She exhaled a breath of stale air and recounted her conversation with Yue Jiangting, warning him to be careful, as Yue Jiangting was a heartless scoundrel capable of any evil deed without any moral boundaries.
"Don't worry, he can't touch me," Qin Chu said casually. "Do whatever you want, don't worry about me. He's just desperate and has no other choice but to threaten and scare you. Don't fall for his tricks."
Mei Yusheng was completely relieved and asked, "I just called Qin Zhan, but he didn't answer."
"He's probably in court. Usually, when he's in court, his phone is either on silent or turned off," Qin Chu explained.
"Oh, I see." Mei Yusheng smiled sheepishly. She was really scared just now, imagining all sorts of terrifying scenes, all the bloody scenes she had seen in novels and movies.
The two chatted for a few more minutes. Qin Chu said she would wait for him to come back and cook dinner that night. They had agreed that Mei Yusheng wouldn't have to cook, but she had ended up cooking most of the time these past few days.
Mei Yusheng laughed indifferently. What's a little thing to do? She used to eat three meals a day for thirty years.
Besides, these were the flavors Qin Chu remembered. Seeing him eat them with relish gave him a great sense of accomplishment.
Ever since I learned that he was not only a writer but also had many other positions, I understood how busy he was and didn't want him to not get any rest when he got home because he had to take care of himself.
But she didn't want to go against his kindness, so she smiled and agreed.
She arranged all the dishes and waited for Qin Chu to return.
Her phone rang again. She glanced down, a slight smile curving her lips, and casually answered, "Lawyer Qin!"
"Aunt Mei, I was in court just now and couldn't answer the phone. Is there something you need?" Qin Zhan's steady voice rang out.
"It's nothing. I couldn't reach your second uncle earlier, so I called you in a panic."
Qin Zhan paused for a moment, then said, "It's good that you're alright. I thought you and Yue Jiangting had reached an agreement on using that ledger."
"I don't need it for now, thank you. I can sleep peacefully with it."
Qin Zhan laughed heartily, chatted for a couple more minutes, and then hung up.
Mei Yusheng looked at the sky and saw that it was still early. She went back to her bedroom, took out the property certificate, stared at her own name in the owner's column, and felt a mix of emotions.
Even now, she still feels a sense of unreality, finding it hard to believe that she really owns a villa.
He turned around and went out, walking towards the houses in buildings 2 and 3.
The evening breeze was a bit cool, gently brushing against Mei Yusheng's cheeks. She watched the children in the neighborhood playing and laughing in groups of three or five after school.
The hibiscus and chrysanthemums in the flowerbed are in full bloom, along with a cluster of pink oleanders.
Mei Yusheng slowed her pace and followed the fragrance of flowers to the front of the two-story house.
Seeing this house for the second time was a completely different experience from the first time.
It was closer to the grove of goldenrain trees. Looking through the wrought-iron fence, the weeds in the courtyard were waist-high, and there wasn't a single tree. The windows were dark, and the white building, shrouded in twilight, looked desolate and forlorn.
It was obvious that it had been bought but never taken care of. Mei Yusheng squinted, imagining that after she moved in, she would plant a few peach trees and wintersweet in the yard, and also plant some strawberries. There would be flowers and fruits in all four seasons, and every day would be full of satisfaction and happiness.
I wake up every morning to the fragrance of flowers and the chirping of birds, make a simple breakfast, and then sit by the window to read quietly.
What a wonderful life that would be!
But the thought of the expensive property management fees instantly dissipated the beautiful scene in my mind.
She shook the large brass lock on the front door, making a clanging sound. Annoyed, she slapped her forehead. How could she have forgotten to ask for the key back? Standing in front of her own house, yet being refused entry, made her look like a envious voyeur.
She really wanted to go inside and see each room, and she wanted to arrange them in different styles according to their different uses.
The study is more important than the bedroom. She thought about the layout of Qin Chu's house and felt that it would be very appropriate for his study to be in the same location.
She'll ask Qin Chu to buy her a bookshelf, and then she'll gradually fill it up.
She didn't want to buy a lot of books to fill her books, making them look full, but she actually read no more than a third of them.
She wanted to read one book and fill it in, to see how long it would take her to complete it.
She also wants to buy a large and heavy oak desk, put a computer on it, and spend her days reading and writing at the desk, which will be her most comfortable life.
As the last rays of evening light faded, the lights in the neighborhood came on, illuminating the area and making the deep blue sky appear even deeper and farther away.
Mei Yusheng glanced at it longingly, then turned and walked back.
When her phone rang, she thought it was Qin Chu returning, but when she looked down, it was actually Mei Zichen.
"Sister, where are you? Let's meet!" Mei Zichen's voice was filled with unease and anxiety. "Are you and your husband getting a divorce?"
Mei Yusheng's heart skipped a beat. She knew she had to face it. She had been keeping it from her younger brother, intending to tell him only after everything had settled down.
It must have been Yue Jiangting who spoke to him, asking him to persuade him.
She took a deep breath: "Zichen, don't try to persuade me anymore. I've thought it through very clearly, I have to get a divorce!"
A sense of apology rose in her heart: "I'm sorry, I might be dragging you into this, but I can't worry about that now."
“Sister, I’m not afraid of implicating you. I want to hear what happened from your own perspective! My brother-in-law said you’re fixated on some minor mistake he made and even tried to negotiate with him, but he couldn’t quite articulate what that mistake was. He just told me to persuade you to come home.” Mei Zichen spoke quickly. “Sister, I don’t think you’re an unreasonable person. What exactly happened? Why didn’t you come to me immediately after the incident? Where do you live?”
Mei Yusheng suddenly felt a pang of sadness, feeling even more wronged in front of her family. Tears streamed down her face uncontrollably, and the anger that had been building up inside her vanished instantly at the sound of her younger brother's concerned voice.
