Three years later.

Yue Guangzhi walked slowly out of the prison gate, carrying a tattered cloth bag. His hair had grown long, covering his forehead, with a strand hanging down and obscuring his left eye.

The cloth bag contained a few simple items: a worn-out toothbrush, half a tube of toothpaste, a razor, and a third of a piece of bread that had been gnawed on.

His fellow inmates mocked him, saying, "You'll be a rich young master when you get out, what do you need all this for?"

His roommate, a blond guy, wanted his razor, but he seemed not to hear and walked straight out. The blond guy muttered under his breath, "You cheapskate! Your mom's a famous writer now, she even made a movie. What can't you get out of the house? You can't even afford a broken razor. You're such a pauper!"

Yue Guangzhi gave a barely perceptible twitch of his lips and touched his unshaven chin. How could he face his mother looking like this? He needed to find a place to tidy himself up, even if he didn't have any decent clothes, at least he could look clean.

I still need this razor to shave.

He walked to the gate with his head down. He had said that once he left, he shouldn't look back, but at this moment he had the urge to turn back and take one last look at the place where he had lived for three years.

These humiliating and painful days tempered his character. From initial resentment, shirking responsibility, and escapism, to eventual numbness, silence, and regret, his journey was arduous.

Initially, he was thinking about how to get a reduced sentence and get out sooner. But one day, he suddenly seemed to have a moment of clarity and examined his past from a God's-eye view.

He recklessly squandered his mother's love, and then, when she was at her most pained and helpless, he stabbed her in the heart with his own hands. This stab from his only son must have hurt his mother the most. He doesn't deserve to be called a son!

Driven by greed and the desire to live a life of luxury, he lost all sense of right and wrong and personally fed his cousin to the beast Sun Chengzhi, causing her irreversible physical harm.

He laundered money, embezzled charitable donations, and deceived and exploited poor people who were terminally ill. He is not worthy of being a human being!

He wasn't in a hurry to leave. He slowly savored each day in prison. Given his actions, three years in prison was far too lenient a punishment!

He became taciturn and learned to be frugal. Even if his shoelaces broke, he would tie a knot to fix them and continue using them. He wouldn't replace his shoes until they were completely worn out.

Mei Yusheng would visit him from time to time, bringing him many things, including delicious food, which he would let his fellow inmates take away. When asked how he was doing and what he needed, he would always smile and say that everything was fine and he lacked nothing.

He couldn't let his mother worry about him anymore. Seeing Mei Yusheng getting younger and more energetic, he felt both heartbroken and gratified.

He couldn't help but think to himself, thank goodness she got divorced and left Yuejiang Pavilion; her mother had been given a new lease on life. Otherwise, she would have been bound to family chores for the rest of her life. From as far back as he could remember, he had never seen such light and brilliance in Mei Yusheng's eyes as he did now.

She finally married Qin Chu, which surprised Yue Guangzhi greatly. He was astonished that such a handsome and charismatic man had been won over by his mother.

He wanted to laugh out loud, feeling proud of his mother.

I also extend my deepest blessings to them.

Thinking of her broken marriage, Shen Yingying never showed up again after the divorce, and didn't even go to see Xuanxuan. What a heartless and ruthless woman!

Yue Guangzhi thought that after he was released from prison, he would find a stable job and raise Xuanxuan, so that he wouldn't always be a burden on his mother.

If he meets a good woman like his mother, he will definitely hold on to her; otherwise, he will never get married again.

Lost in thought, she quickened her pace.

Suddenly, two car horns sounded in my ears. I looked up and saw a blue GLC parked not far away. The car door opened and Mei Yusheng got out first, followed by Qin Chu and Mei Zichen.

Yue Guangzhi stared wide-eyed in surprise, thinking he was dreaming.

Mei Yusheng walked over with a light smile, looked her son up and down, and said, "You didn't even take a shower or shave before you came out. You're all sloppy!"

"Mom!" Yue Guangzhi called out hoarsely, tears streaming down his face. He hadn't expected so many people to come to pick him up; he thought they all disliked him and looked down on him.

"Alright, you're a grown man, stop crying!" Mei Zichen glanced at him disdainfully. "Get in the car, go home, take a good shower, change your clothes. You look like a beggar, you stink!"

"Uncle!" Yue Guangzhi sniffed and looked at Qin Chu, "Uncle Qin..."

Qin Chu smiled and nodded: "Get in the car, we'll talk about it when we get home."

"Home?" Yue Guangzhi was a little dazed. He didn't know where his home was. He had just been wondering where to wash up.

His properties and money have been seized, and he is now penniless. If all else fails, he plans to go to his father's place first.

I didn't expect my mom and uncle to come pick him up. Does that mean they're not angry with him anymore and have forgiven him?

Yue Guangzhi felt relieved and a smile appeared on his face.

I went up and touched the sea-blue car, and was amazed to myself. My mother has really changed a lot.

When Yue Guangzhi got home, Xuanxuan, who had just started first grade, hadn't come home from school. He breathed a sigh of relief; he was both looking forward to and afraid to see his son.

He looks so ashamed to face his children.

He Qingmin pushed the wheelchair over, her eyes filled with tears, and called out, "Xiao Zhi?"

Yue Guangzhi ran a few steps, knelt down in front of He Qingmin with a thud, and burst into tears: "Grandma! Waaah..."

He Qingmin hugged him, stroking his messy and dirty hair, and comforted him with tears in her eyes: "It's good that you're back, it's good that you're back."

Mei Yusheng quietly wiped away her tears, and Qin Chu tightened his grip on her shoulders.

"Go take a shower!" Mei Zichen ordered coldly after Yue Guangzhi had stopped crying, throwing him a few pieces of clothing. "You stink, you'll make your grandma sick."

Yue Guangzhi obediently stood up, took the clothes, and went into the bathroom.

"Sigh, it looks like he's really suffering," He Qingmin sighed. "But he seems much more composed than before."

"Behave yourself since you've just come out. We'll see how things go. It's still uncertain now," Mei Zichen said.

Mei Yusheng glared at him and said, "Xiao Zhi is indeed more sensible than before. If he can really change his ways, then these three years of suffering will not have been in vain."

Qin Chu changed her clothes and went to the kitchen to prepare something delicious for Yue Guangzhi. Mei Yusheng followed her in.

"I'll do it. You rest for a bit. We still need to see Director Sun after dinner." Mei Yusheng rolled up her sleeves, took the apron that Qin Chu had just tied off from her, wrapped it around her own waist, and stood on tiptoe to give Qin Chu a light peck on the cheek. "We still need to pick up Xiaoxing and Xiaoyue."

The happiness in Qin Chu's eyes was almost overflowing. He reached out and hugged Mei Yusheng, bringing his face close: "I want this side too."

Mei Yusheng smiled indulgently, then pecked his other cheek and gently stroked it with her hand: "I'll make you meat buns."

Qin Chu lingered on Mei Yusheng for a while longer before leaving.

Yue Guangzhi took half an hour to shower before coming out, his whole body steaming as if he had been steamed. He was wearing Mei Zichen's clothes, which were a bit big, but still loose and comfortable.

"Guangzhi's back?" Xie Mingqi's loud voice came from the doorway. "Xuanxuan, hurry up, your dad's here!"

Yue Guangzhi paused in drying his hair, his eyes filled with anticipation as he looked towards the door.
