Divorced at fifty, I embarked on my path to success.
Chapter 44 Infiltration
Yue Jiangting pursed his lips and remained silent, but a smile was visibly in his eyes.
He put down his bag, changed his clothes, and sat on the sofa as usual, scrolling through his tablet. He had a serious expression on his face, but his eyes kept glancing at the kitchen.
Dinner was served, and the family sat around the table. The sound of the rain was somewhat disorienting, like a nightmare. Now the dream was over, and everything was just as it had been, like every evening over the past few decades.
When the millet porridge was served, the mother-in-law glanced at Shen Yingying's bowl and hers, and grumbled discontentedly, "Why doesn't mine have brown sugar?"
Shen Yingying quickly switched her bowl with her mother-in-law's: "Grandma, you drink this bowl."
The mother-in-law snorted: "You know I like sweet drinks, but you never remember and I always have to remind you. Are you doing it on purpose?"
Mei Yusheng rolled her eyes at her, went into the kitchen, brought out the bag of brown sugar, and placed it in front of Shen Yingying: "Add it yourself."
Shen Yingying secretly gave Mei Yusheng a knowing look.
Yue Jiangting's cloudy eyes lit up. He picked up the spoon somewhat eagerly, scooped up a spoonful, and put it in his mouth. The scalding heat made his lips twitch. The porridge rolled around in his mouth a few times before he swallowed it. Immediately, a satisfied expression appeared on his face.
Having learned from his previous experience, he blew on the bowl before eating his second bite, quickly finished the bowl, and naturally held it up to Mei Yusheng.
Mei Yusheng silently took a bowl, filled it for him in the kitchen, and placed it in front of him. For the first time ever, he whispered, "Thank you."
Mei Yusheng paused, then subtly curled her lip, a flash of disdain and disgust in her eyes.
Yue Guangzhi and Shen Yingying exchanged a smile. They thought their parents had finally reconciled and the brief storm was over, and they were genuinely happy.
After dinner, Mei Yusheng returned to her bedroom, and Yue Jiangting followed her in.
"Ahem," he cleared his throat, making his presence known.
The sound of plum rain ignored him.
He spoke first, somewhat awkwardly: "Yusheng, only your millet porridge suits my taste the best. My stomach feels much better tonight."
Mei Yusheng looked at him expressionlessly.
When Yue Jiangting met her cold gaze, his temples throbbed, a chill ran through him, and his relaxed mood tightened again.
"Alright, I know you're still angry. I'll give you whatever you want." Yue Jiangting sighed, his expression turning serious again. "Stop making a fuss, it's pointless. You know you can't leave this family, so just let go of your resentment and live a peaceful life."
After saying that, he turned and left.
Mei Yusheng snorted coldly. He thought that cooking millet porridge was a way of showing her goodwill and that she would turn a blind eye to his dirty deeds. Where did he get his confidence and audacity?
The sound of rain made me open the door a crack, and I pricked up my ears to listen to what was happening outside.
Soon, Yue Guangzhi's voice was heard: "Dad, if you're sleepy, go to bed early. Yingying and I are taking Xuanxuan upstairs."
He probably thought that Yue Jiangting had been working hard all this time, and today his mother finally came to her senses, so they felt relieved and relaxed, which made them more prone to drowsiness.
Soon, Yue Guangzhi and his wife left with their child, and the nanny also went home.
Mei Yusheng heard Yue Jiangting enter the bedroom, and the door clicked shut.
Only my mother-in-law was watching TV in the living room, and the volume was very loud.
Mei Yusheng took a book, lay on the bed, and flipped through it, but couldn't concentrate on a single word. Her mind raced as she thought about what she was about to do.
Finally, my mother-in-law turned off the TV and went inside to sleep.
The house quieted down, all the lights in the living room were off, and the neon lights from outside shone into the room through the windows.
Mei Yusheng tiptoed out, first walking to the master bedroom door and gently turning the doorknob.
Suddenly, Yue Jiangting's deep snoring came through, and I could vaguely see him lying on his side.
"Two sleeping pills should be enough for him to sleep until tomorrow afternoon, right?" Mei Yusheng smiled and gently and slowly closed the door.
I reached the study door and gently pushed it; sure enough, it was locked.
She smiled slyly, took the key out of her pocket, gently inserted it into the lock, turned it, and the door opened with a click.
Knowing the room's layout well, she reached out and touched the button on the floor lamp.
Snap! A soft, warm light filled the room.
Following the location from her memory, she reached for the hidden compartment in the desk, took out a brass key, inserted it into the lock of the middle drawer, and gently turned it to open it.
I carefully searched through the contents, taking pictures of any documents or similar items with my phone.
She found the thick black leather notebook at the very back of the drawer, which even had a small lock on it.
He couldn't help but frown, instinctively feeling that what was inside must be very important.
What if you can't damage the lock directly?
Mei Yu looked around anxiously, searching through the house. She searched everywhere she could hide a small key, but still couldn't find it!
Could it be in the bedroom? Or in Yuejiangting's pocket?
She thought for a moment and decided to risk going to look for it.
Returning to the master bedroom, she dared not turn on the overhead light, fearing that the strong light would wake Yue Jiangting.
Using the dim light from the doorway, she fumbled for the lamp switch and pressed it gently.
Yue Jiangting suddenly groaned in his sleep, startling Mei Yusheng so much that he almost screamed.
A sudden sound rang out in the quiet night, startling everyone.
Mei Yusheng's forehead was sweating. He held the leather notebook in his hand, wondering whether he should take it first, find a way to open it and take a look, and then find an opportunity to return it.
But doing that would be too risky; if Yue Jiangting were to search for the notebook, the deception would be exposed.
Seeing the briefcase on the table, she tiptoed over and carefully opened it to look through it.
Yue Jiangting was a very meticulous person. He could keenly notice any slight change in his things, even if they had been touched.
Mei Yusheng held her breath, trying not to disturb the documents inside, and reached in to feel around, but found nothing.
After putting her briefcase away, she still checked the pockets of the clothes hanging on the hanger, but still nothing.
If this notebook is important, then Yue Jiangting must have hidden the key in a place that is not easy to find, perhaps in a safe?
That would be terrible, as Mei Yusheng had no idea about the safe's combination.
Finding nothing, she didn't dare linger. She turned off the lamp, glanced at her phone next to her, thought for a moment, picked it up and swiped it – it was a fingerprint unlock.
She glanced nervously at Yue Jiangting and saw that he was fast asleep, probably due to the effects of sleeping pills.
He boldly approached him, took his right hand, unlocked it with his index finger, and then placed his hand back in place.
She gave a smug, silent laugh and backed out.
Back in the study, she would occasionally tap her phone to keep it from going out.
Mei Yusheng was at a loss as she looked at the hard, silver-gray safe. She touched it; it was cold and hard to the touch.
This safe was bought ten years ago; it's not a high-end one, just a regular six-digit password.
She decided to give it a try, wiped the sweat from her hands on her clothes, and slowly approached the safe. She remembered that Yue Jiangting had a habit of using his birthdate as his bank card password, so she tried it once with Yue Jiangting's birthdate, but it didn't work.
I tried using Yue Guangzhi's birthday, but it still didn't work. Xuanxuan's birthday wouldn't open.
I was so nervous that I broke out in a sweat, and my clothes stuck to my back.
She dared not try again, fearing she would trigger the alarm, and had to give up the idea of opening the safe.
Her gaze returned to her phone; she wanted to see what secrets it held.
First, open WeChat. The first one pinned to the top is Han Caiyu. Although the name sounds artistic, the profile picture is an artistic photo of Han Caiyu. Mei Yusheng recognized it at a glance.
She suppressed her nausea and scrolled through their chat history. She knew that looking at these things would only make her feel worse, but she just couldn't control herself and tortured herself by looking through their conversations.
It's often said that as people get older, their passion for men and women fades, but actually, it depends on who the person is.
Seeing the nauseatingly sweet conversations between Yue Jiangting and Mei Yusheng, Mei Yusheng felt waves of nausea and an indescribable sadness welled up inside her.
As his wife, she had never been treated so intimately by him, not even during their honeymoon.
People in that era were ashamed to express their true feelings, but that didn't mean they didn't yearn for it.
In her memory, Yue Jiangting was always a man of few words, not good at expressing himself, but he did a good job of fulfilling his responsibilities and obligations.
She once thought that this was the kind of real man, but after seeing his conversation with Han Caiyu, she suddenly realized that it wasn't that he couldn't say sweet words, but that she didn't deserve it!
A deep sense of frustration washed over me, and I almost dropped my phone.
A thought suddenly popped into my head: maybe it really was her who was getting in their way.
But why didn't Yue Jiangting say it sooner?
Mei Yusheng really wanted to smash his phone against that snoring face. Why was he keeping two women around?
Her eyes grew increasingly dark, revealing a sharp, murderous aura.
