Mi Yi's Spiritual Journey Against the World
Chapter 114 The aftermath had not yet subsided when a new crisis arose.
After enduring the threat of evil forces, the capital city finally returned to peace. People's lives gradually returned to normal, and the streets and alleys were once again filled with their former hustle and bustle. Lu Yi, Jin Xia, their brother, and the members of the "Jing'an Society" became heroes in the hearts of the capital's people.
However, beneath the calm surface, an undercurrent was subtly brewing. Shortly after Lu Yi and Jin Xia returned the Sun Crown, strange rumors began to circulate in the martial arts world. Some said that a mysterious ancient city had appeared in the distant Western Desert. This city was usually hidden, only revealing itself under certain celestial phenomena. Legend had it that the ancient city held endless treasures, and even mysterious magical artifacts that could instantly grant immense power.
Initially, these rumors didn't attract much attention and were merely casual conversation. However, as time went on, more and more people claimed to have witnessed the strange phenomena appearing in the ancient city, which fueled the rumors and drew the attention of many martial arts practitioners.
Upon hearing these rumors, Lu Yi couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. He knew all too well that whenever news of such mysterious treasures spread, the martial world would inevitably descend into chaos and bloodshed. Moreover, having experienced the previous confrontation with evil forces, he instinctively felt that this matter might not be so simple.
This summer, she also sensed something was amiss. She said to Lu Yi, "Yi'er, this rumor sounds too bizarre. There might be some conspiracy behind it. Should we investigate?"
Lu Yi nodded, his expression grave: "I share the same thought. If the martial world descends into chaos, the people will once again be plunged into misery. We cannot stand idly by."
So, Lu Yi and Jin Xia bid farewell to their brother and embarked on their journey to the Western Regions. Along the way, they saw many martial arts practitioners, some in small groups and others alone, all heading towards the Western Regions. From their conversations, Lu Yi and Jin Xia learned that the mysterious ancient city seemed to be related to an ancient sect. This sect had once been extremely powerful in the martial arts world, but later suddenly disappeared without a trace, leaving behind countless mysteries.
Several days later, Lu Yi and Jin Xia finally arrived at the edge of the Western Desert. The scorching sun baked the earth, yellow sand swirled in the air, and the boundless desert was awe-inspiring. But they did not back down in the slightest. With their superb lightness skills and unwavering will, they stepped into this vast desert.
After traveling through the desert for several days, they finally encountered a guide familiar with the terrain. The guide was an elderly man, well past seventy, his weathered face etched with the marks of time. Upon hearing that Lu Yi and Jin Xia were searching for a mysterious ancient city, a flicker of hesitation crossed the old man's eyes, but swayed by Lu Yi's sincere request and the promise of a generous reward, he ultimately agreed to lead the way.
Led by their guide, they ventured deep into the desert along a hidden route. Along the way, they encountered a fierce sandstorm. The howling wind, whipping up yellow sand, swept in like a roaring beast, engulfing everything. Lu Yi swiftly deployed his Moon Shield, protecting himself, Jin Xia, and the guide within it. The shield shook violently under the impact of the gale, emitting a buzzing sound. Jin Xia gripped Lu Yi's arm tightly; though somewhat nervous, seeing Lu Yi's resolute expression, she gradually calmed down.
The sandstorm lasted for a long time before gradually subsiding. When they emerged from their shields, they found the surrounding dunes completely transformed. The guide, looking at the unfamiliar landscape, turned grim. He muttered to himself, "Damn it, we've strayed off course."
With the guide's efforts, they painstakingly retraced their route. After another two days of trekking, they finally saw, one night, a mysterious ancient city shimmering with an eerie light in the distance. The city walls soared into the clouds, exuding an ancient and mysterious aura. Before the city gates, a large group of martial arts practitioners had gathered, discussing amongst themselves as they looked at the tightly closed gates.
Lu Yi and Jin Xia approached the crowd and heard someone say, "No matter what we do, we can't open the city gate. We don't know how we can get into the city."
Just then, a mysterious figure dressed in black robes suddenly emerged from the crowd. He held a crystal ball that emitted a ghostly glow and chanted incantations. As he recited the incantation, shimmering runes appeared on the city gate. However, before the mysterious figure could make any further move, several hidden weapons suddenly shot out from the crowd, heading straight for him. Sensing the danger, the mysterious figure quickly dodged to the side, but one weapon still grazed his arm.
"Who is it?" the mysterious man shouted angrily.
Chaos erupted as the various factions grew suspicious of each other, and shouts and curses filled the air. Lu Yi and Jin Xia seized the opportunity to approach the city gate and carefully examine the runes. Jin Xia discovered that these runes were somewhat similar to an ancient rune she had previously studied at the Qingfeng Sect. She attempted to decipher the runes using her spiritual power, and after some effort, finally found a way to open the city gate.
Following Jin Xia's instructions, Lu Yi infused his spiritual power into the runes. The city gate slowly opened with a muffled sound. Seeing this, everyone surged towards the gate. Lu Yi and Jin Xia also entered the ancient city with the flow of people.
A thin mist hung over the ancient city. The buildings lining the streets were ancient and magnificent, yet exuded an eerie atmosphere. The group proceeded cautiously, warily observing their surroundings. Suddenly, a pitiful scream rang out from ahead. They rushed over and saw a martial arts practitioner lying on the ground, his body covered in strange wounds, blood gushing out. He soon died.
Just as everyone was in shock, several enormous scorpions emerged from the mist. Their exoskeletons were as hard as iron, and the stingers on their tails gleamed coldly. The group immediately drew their swords and engaged the scorpions in battle. Lu Yi wielded the Star Sword, each strike sharp and precise, aimed precisely at the scorpions' vital points. Jin Xia, meanwhile, used magic to assist the group. Her spells transformed into beams of light, striking the scorpions and temporarily slowing their attacks.
After a fierce battle, the group finally defeated the scorpions. However, they also realized that the ancient city was fraught with danger. Nevertheless, their desire for treasure and mysterious artifacts led most of them to choose to venture deeper.
Lu Yi and Jin Xia parted ways with the others, walking along a quiet alley. At the end of the alley, they discovered a magnificent palace. The palace gates were open, and a faint light shone from within.
When they entered the palace, they found it filled with all sorts of rare and precious treasures. But Lu Yi and Jin Xia were not attracted by these treasures; they keenly sensed that a greater secret was hidden here.
Deep within the palace, they discovered a massive stone coffin. The coffin was covered in mysterious patterns, seemingly telling an ancient story. Just as Lu Yi was about to approach the coffin for a closer look, suddenly, the lid slowly opened, and a powerful force surged forth, blasting Lu Yi and Jin Xia away.
A man in a magnificent robe emerged from the stone coffin. He was handsome, but his eyes held a cold and malevolent glint. He looked at Lu Yi and Jin Xia and sneered, "I didn't expect anyone to be able to break in here. You've come at the right time; I need your strength to complete my plan."
Lu Yi asked warily, "Who are you? What exactly is going on?"
The man said disdainfully, "I am a descendant of an ancient sect. Although the sect was destroyed back then, we left this ancient city as the foundation for its revival. Now, I will use the power of this ancient city to rule the entire martial world. And you will become the sacrifices to my power."
With that, the man waved his hands, and countless black vines surged from the palace walls, wrapping around Lu Yi and Jin Xia. Lu Yi swiftly swung his Star Sword, severing the approaching vines. Jin Xia, meanwhile, used magic to try and find the vines' weakness.
In the midst of the fierce battle, Jin Xia discovered that the vines seemed particularly sensitive to fire. She immediately cast a fire spell, and flames spread among the vines, causing them to sizzle and retreat. Upon seeing this, the man's expression changed. He formed hand seals and chanted incantations. A powerful force surged forth from the stone coffin once more, transforming into a gigantic black monster that lunged towards Lu Yi and Jin Xia.
Lu Yi raised the Star Sword and engaged the monster in a desperate battle. The monster was incredibly powerful, each attack carrying the force of a tidal wave. Lu Yi, relying on his superb swordsmanship and unwavering will, barely managed to withstand the monster's onslaught. Jin Xia, meanwhile, watched from the sidelines, searching for an opening. She discovered that the monster's eyes were its weak point.
Seizing the opportunity, Jin Xia unleashed her ultimate technique, shooting a hidden weapon towards the monster's eye. The monster, in pain, roared and temporarily ceased its attack on Lu Yi. Lu Yi seized the chance to launch a full-force strike, his Star Sword piercing the monster's body. The monster struggled in agony before finally dissipating into a wisp of black smoke.
Seeing the situation was turning against him, the man tried to escape. Lu Yi and Jin Xia, however, wouldn't let him succeed; they quickly gave chase. In another room of the palace, they blocked the man's path.
Seeing that escape was impossible, the man suddenly revealed a sinister smile: "You think it's over after defeating me? The power of this ancient city has been activated, and it will soon trigger a huge disaster, plunging the entire martial world into utter ruin."
Lu Yi roared, "You madman, why would you do such a heinous thing?"
The man laughed maniacally, "For power, for revenge. I will make the entire martial world pay the price for the destruction of the sect back then."
Just as the man was about to self-destruct and perish together with Lu Yi and Jin Xia, Jin Xia suddenly noticed that a jade pendant he was wearing was shimmering with an unusual light. She remembered that some runes she had seen in the ancient city seemed to have some connection with the pattern on the jade pendant.
Without a second thought, Jin Xia used her lightness skill to quickly approach the man and snatch the jade pendant. Following the pattern on the pendant, she used her spiritual power to activate some hidden runes on the surrounding walls. As the runes flickered, the self-destructive power emanating from the man was gradually suppressed.
The man watched in horror; his plan had completely failed. Ultimately, Lu Yi and Jin Xia subdued the man and led him out of the palace.
When they emerged from the palace, they found other martial arts practitioners within the ancient city already engaged in a fierce battle, fighting over the treasure. Lu Yi and Jin Xia knew they had to stop the chaos as soon as possible, or the consequences would be unimaginable.
They found a high spot in the ancient city, and Lu Yi shouted, "Everyone, this ancient city hides great danger. We must work together, or none of us will be able to leave alive."
At first, the crowd didn't believe Lu Yi's words and remained engrossed in their struggle for the treasure. But as the ground of the ancient city began to shake violently and cracks spread across the surface, they finally realized the gravity of the situation.
Under Lu Yi and Jin Xia's organization, the group began to evacuate the ancient city in an orderly manner. However, just as they were about to leave the city gates, the gates suddenly closed. The mysterious man reappeared, holding a crystal ball, and sneered, "Do you think you can leave so easily? This ancient city is about to become your graveyard."
It turns out that the mysterious man had been hiding in the shadows, hoping to reap the benefits. Seeing that Lu Yi and Jin Xia had subdued the man, he was unwilling to accept it and wanted to trap everyone in the ancient city to their deaths.
Lu Yi glared at the mysterious man and said, "You despicable villain, today is your death day."
Having said that, Lu Yi, Jin Xia, and several other martial arts masters rushed towards the mysterious man. Seeing this, the mysterious man quickly cast a spell using the crystal ball in his hand. Beams of black light shot out from the crystal ball, blocking their advance.
Just as the two sides reached a stalemate, Jin Xia suddenly noticed some tiny cracks appearing on the crystal ball when the mysterious person cast a spell. She guessed that the crystal ball might be the mysterious person's weakness.
This summer, she quietly circled behind the mysterious man, waited for the right moment, and unleashed her full power, stabbing the crystal ball with the dagger in her hand. The crystal ball shattered instantly, the mysterious man let out a scream, and his magic ceased.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, everyone swarmed forward and subdued the mysterious man. Lu Yi opened the city gates and led everyone to successfully evacuate the ancient city.
After they left the ancient city, it gradually disappeared into the desert amidst a violent tremor. The crisis triggered by the mysterious ancient city was finally resolved through the combined efforts of Lu Yi, Jin Xia, and many other martial arts figures.
However, after this ordeal, Lu Yi and Jin Xia knew that the peace in the martial world was only temporary. More challenges and dangers awaited them in the future. But they were fearless, because they believed that as long as they joined hands, with their unwavering faith and extraordinary wisdom, they would surely be able to protect the peace and tranquility of the martial world. With anticipation for the future, they embarked on their journey home, ready to face new unknowns and challenges.
