I stared wide-eyed in disbelief. The kidnapper in front of me was the same man I had bumped into in the mall earlier!

How did he end up getting involved with Du Yue and even kidnap Mengmeng?!

The man didn't answer my question, but just sneered. Then, he snapped his fingers, and suddenly, blinding lights lit up on the surrounding walls, illuminating the entire space as if it were daytime.

That's when I realized we were surrounded!

Gu Yichen held my hand tightly, and the warmth of his palm reassured me a little.

He leaned close to my ear and whispered, "Don't be afraid, I will protect you and Mengmeng."

I nodded vigorously. I knew that at this moment, I had to trust him.

The man led us through a series of narrow passages, the air thick with a pungent, nauseating chemical smell.

Suddenly, he stopped, pointed to a room ahead, and sneered, "Go in!"

My heart sank, and I instinctively wanted to back away, but Gu Yichen grabbed me.

He shielded me behind him and asked in an icy tone, "What do you want?"

I called out my daughter's name, but all I heard was an empty echo.

The man looked at me suspiciously, as if trying to determine whether what I said was true or false.
