Chapter 356 We All Need You

Even after Du Yue was taken away by the police, the atmosphere in the banquet hall remained heavy. The guests exchanged glances and whispered amongst themselves; this sudden turn of events had shocked and unsettled everyone. Uncle Gu slumped weakly in his chair, his face filled with exhaustion and sorrow. I stepped forward, gently took his hand, and whispered, "Uncle, everything will be alright."

He looked up, tears welling in his cloudy eyes: "Yan Yan, this time it's all thanks to you and Yi Chen, otherwise..." He choked up, unable to speak. I understood his feelings. This turmoil not only reopened the wounds of his family, but also allowed him to see the true colors of the person beside him. This kind of blow is not something an ordinary person could bear.

"Uncle, please take care of yourself. The company and the family need you." Gu Yichen walked over, put his hand on his uncle's shoulder, and said firmly.

In the days that followed, we began to deal with the mess left by Du Yue. Over the years, she had used the Gu family's resources to secretly do a lot of illegal and unethical things, causing the company to fall into a crisis of trust and the stock price to plummet. Gu Yichen had to deal with the questions from the media and shareholders while also dealing with the internal chaos of the company. He was busy every day, but I could see that he was very tired, yet he still gritted his teeth and persevered.

Besides taking care of Uncle Gu's daily needs, I also had to find time to visit him in the hospital. This ordeal had been a huge blow to him; his health was deteriorating rapidly. The doctor said it was a psychological issue, requiring rest and the company of his family. Looking at the increasingly frail old man in his hospital bed, I felt a pang of heartache and helplessness. I knew that after this storm, a long and arduous road lay ahead for us. I scrolled through my phone's contacts, familiar names appearing one after another, but I hesitated to press the dial button. Since Du Yue's incident, Uncle Gu's health had worsened, and the medical expenses felt like a mountain weighing me down. I also had an important research project that was nearing its final stage, but it had to be halted due to a broken funding chain.

I gripped my phone, my heart filled with mixed emotions. It wasn't that I hadn't considered asking Gu Yichen, but every time I saw his weary figure, I swallowed the words that were on the tip of my tongue. Du Yue's situation was causing him immense trouble, and there was also undercurrent of unrest within the company; I didn't want to add to his burden.

"Staring blankly again?" Gu Yichen appeared behind me without my noticing. His voice was hoarse, and his eyes were bloodshot, clearly indicating that he hadn't slept all night. I hurriedly put away my phone and forced a smile: "Nothing, just thinking about some project matters."

He sat down next to me, gently pulled me into his arms, and said with a hint of weariness and helplessness in his voice, "The things at the company are more complicated than I imagined."

I looked up at his furrowed brows and asked softly, "What's wrong?"

He sighed: "Some of the older guys in the company have started to question my decision. They think I'm too young and incapable of leading the company."

I held his hand, feeling the warmth of his palm, and said firmly, "I believe in you, you can do it."

He looked at me, a complex emotion flashing in his eyes: "Yan Yan, you're always like this, unconditionally believing in me and supporting me."

I smiled, said nothing, and simply gripped his hand even tighter. I knew that what he needed right now wasn't comfort, but encouragement and support. He needed to prove himself with his abilities, and I would always be by his side, his strongest support.

"Brother, have a glass of milk. Staying up late isn't good for your health." Gu Yichen came over with two steaming glasses of milk, handing one to Gu Yichen and the other to me. I took the milk, a warmth spreading through my heart. During this time, Gu Yichen seemed to have grown up overnight, no longer as willful and reckless as before, but instead learning to care for others.

"Yichen, thank you for your hard work these past few days." I patted his head, my voice full of gratitude.

He shook his head, his eyes filled with determination: "Sister, don't say that. This is what I should do. Brother is already overwhelmed with work, I can't let him worry about it anymore."

Looking at his sensible younger brother, Gu Yichen's eyes flashed with a hint of relief. He ruffled Gu Yichen's hair and said in a rare gentle tone, "You've finally grown up."

"Brother, don't worry, I will work hard to learn how to manage the company and try to be able to help you as soon as possible." Gu Yichen patted his chest and said earnestly.

Watching the two brothers encourage each other filled me with emotion. I knew Gu Yichen was under a lot of pressure, but he never complained to me. He always silently bore everything, using his broad shoulders to support Gu Yichen and me. And all I could do was give him a hug and a cup of hot milk when he needed it most, letting him know that I wasn't fighting alone, that I would always be his support.

"Yichen, no matter what happens, I will be by your side." I held his hand, our fingers intertwined, my eyes resolute.

He squeezed my hand back, a faint smile playing on his lips, his eyes full of tenderness: "I know, I've always known."

Outside the window, the night was deep, but my heart was filled with warmth. I believe that as long as we walk hand in hand, no difficulty can stop us from moving forward.

The morning sunlight filtered through the sheer curtains, casting a warm glow over the room. I stretched and turned to look at Gu Yichen, who was fast asleep beside me, a smile unconsciously spreading across my lips. Although things had been tough for us lately, supporting each other had made it all quite sweet.

A series of rapid knocks interrupted my thoughts. Gu Yichen burst in, his face beaming with undisguised excitement: "Sis, your phone call! It's...it's from the Lin Group!"

My heart skipped a beat. The Lin Group? Why would they suddenly contact me? Could it be… I jumped up, grabbed my phone, and nervously answered the call.

"Hello, is this Ms. Fu Yan? I'm from the investment department of Lin's Group..." A strange female voice came from the other end of the phone.

My heart suddenly raced; I could hardly believe my ears. Could it be that my project... really received investment from the Lin family?

"Ms. Fu, after evaluation by our board of directors, we are very optimistic about your research project and have decided..."

The voice on the other end of the phone continued, but I couldn't make out what she was saying anymore. My head was buzzing, and an overwhelming joy and excitement overwhelmed me.

After hanging up the phone, I excitedly hugged Gu Yichen, tears welling up in my eyes: "Yichen, we did it! Our project is saved!"

Gu Yichen, who was standing beside me, also showed a relieved smile. He gently hugged me and whispered in my ear, "I knew you could do it."

However, before I could recover from my joy, my phone rang again.

"Fu Yan, long time no see. Looks like you've been doing well lately?" A cold voice came from the other end of the phone, making me feel as if I had fallen into an ice cellar.

It's Lin Jiaojiao! Why would she call me at this time? Could it be...?

My heart sank suddenly and an ominous premonition came over me.
