Chapter 354 Secret Planning

I held my breath and quietly drew the curtains. How did Du Yue find this place? Had our plan been exposed?

Fear gripped me like vines, almost suffocating me. I had to inform Gu Yichen! I turned to go back to my room, but then I heard Gu Yichen's voice downstairs. He's back?

I tiptoed to the top of the stairs and peered down through the gaps in the railing. Gu Yichen, dressed casually, stood calmly in the living room, a stark contrast to Du Yue opposite him. Du Yue wore a black suit and meticulously applied makeup, yet it couldn't conceal the anxiety and anger in her eyes.

"Yichen, what do you mean by this? You handed the company over to that woman and hid in a place like this?" Du Yue's sharp voice echoed in the hall.

"I just want to take a break for a while. You can handle the company matters." Gu Yichen's tone was indifferent, as if he were talking about a trivial matter.

"Rest? Do you think this is the time to rest? Don't you know what the Gu Group is like right now? Do you know how much damage your actions will cause?" Du Yue's emotions grew more and more agitated, and her voice became louder and louder.

Gu Yichen didn't speak, but just looked at her coldly, his eyes full of mockery and disdain.

"You..." Du Yue wanted to say something, but his cold gaze forced her back. She took a deep breath, trying to suppress her anger. "Fine, even if you don't care about the company, don't you care about your brother either? Yi Chen is still waiting for you in the hospital. Are you just going to watch him..."

"Enough!" Gu Yichen abruptly interrupted her, his voice trembling slightly. "My affairs are none of your business!"

"You..." Du Yue was enraged by his attitude and was about to lash out when she suddenly seemed to realize something, and a strange smile appeared on her face. "Yi Chen, do you really think I don't know what you're thinking? Do you think you can escape everything by hiding here?"

Du Yue's words were like a needle, piercing my heart. My heart sank. Had she really discovered our plan?

I gripped the railing tightly, my palms sweating. Du Yue's words were like a sharp blade hanging over my head, ready to fall at any moment. I could almost feel her gaze piercing through the wall and landing on me.

"I don't know what you're talking about." Gu Yichen's voice remained calm, without any discernible emotional fluctuation.

"Is that so?" Du Yue sneered. "Don't think I don't know who you've been in contact with lately! Do you think I don't know what kind of person that woman named Fu Yan is?"

My heart sank. Sure enough, Du Yue already knew about my relationship with Gu Yichen.

"I advise you to stay away from her!" Du Yue's tone suddenly turned sharp. "Otherwise, you won't be able to bear the consequences!"

"My affairs are none of your business!" Gu Yichen's tone turned cold as he turned and walked towards the stairwell.

I was so scared that I quickly hid back in my room, my heart pounding so hard it felt like it was going to jump out of my chest.

Gu Yichen pushed the door open and came in. Seeing my pale face, a hint of worry flashed in his eyes. "You heard everything?"

I nodded, forcing back my fear. "How did she know?"

“I don’t know either.” Gu Yichen frowned. “It seems that our every move is under her surveillance.”

Just then, my phone suddenly vibrated. I opened it and saw that it was an unfamiliar number.

"Hello?" I answered the phone and asked in a low voice.

"It's me." A deep voice came from the other end of the phone, and I was immediately jolted. It was him!

"I have something very important to tell you, about Du Yue..." His voice was soft, yet it carried an undeniable authority.

Gu Yichen and I exchanged a glance, and we both saw a glimmer of hope in each other's eyes.

That evening, we met him at a café in the suburbs. He was still wearing a hat and mask, so we couldn't see his face, but his eyes were as sharp as a hawk's, as if they could see through everything.

“I know you’re investigating Du Yue,” he said bluntly. “I can help you.”

"Why are you helping us?" Gu Yichen asked, his tone tinged with wariness.

He paused for a moment before slowly speaking, "Because I don't want to see her continue to do evil."

He placed a USB drive on the table. "This contains all the evidence you want."

I picked up the USB drive, my heart filled with excitement and unease. This would be our weapon of retaliation, but it also meant we would face greater risks.

“We will succeed, right?” I looked at Gu Yichen, hoping to get a positive answer from him.

"Trust me." He grasped my hand, his eyes firm and resolute. "We will make Du Yue pay the price."

Gu Yichen shielded me behind him, and the icy aura emanating from him inexplicably reassured me. I knew that we were about to face a tough battle, and I couldn't become his weakness.

During the day, I went to work at the non-profit organization as usual, handling cases that required assistance. At night, I began examining the contents of the USB drive, trying to find more usable information. I dared not slack off on the child's matter in the slightest; fortunately, with people arranged by Gu Yichen secretly protecting him, I felt somewhat at ease.

"What's wrong? You look terrible." Gu Yichen walked into the room with a cup of hot milk and frowned slightly when he saw me sitting in front of the computer, lost in thought.

"It's nothing, I was just thinking about some cases." I forced a smile, not wanting him to worry.

He came over, put the milk on the table, and gently massaged my shoulders. "Don't put too much pressure on yourself. I'm here for you."

"Mmm." I nodded, resting my head on his arm, feeling his warm body temperature.

I know that Gu Yichen is also working hard for our plan. He takes advantage of family gatherings to frequently contact those relatives who have been misled by Du Yue, subtly revealing some clues.

"My second uncle invited me to play golf today. I sounded out him, and he seems to have some suspicions about what Du Yue has been doing all these years, but he doesn't have any concrete evidence yet." Gu Yichen reported his progress to me after dinner.

"That's good. As long as someone starts to doubt her, we'll have a chance." I grasped his hand, my eyes shining with hope.

I know that this game has only just begun, and every step we take is like walking on thin ice. But I believe that justice will eventually prevail over evil, and Gu Yichen and I will also usher in our own light.

Just then, Gu Yichen's phone rang. He glanced at the caller ID and his expression changed slightly. "It's Du Yue," he said to me in a low voice.

My heart tightened, and a sense of foreboding washed over me. "What is she planning to do?"

Gu Yichen answered the phone and turned on speakerphone. Du Yue's hypocritical voice came through the phone: "Yichen, it's been a long time since you've come home to visit, hasn't it? I'm planning a family reunion. Why don't you bring Miss Fu back with you? Everyone misses you all very much."

My palms started sweating. Du Yue's sudden show of goodwill must be a trap. Gu Yichen had obviously thought of this as well, and he replied calmly, "Okay, we understand, we'll be there on time."

After hanging up the phone, Gu Yichen's expression turned serious. "It seems she wants to strike first."

"A family gathering? What is she planning to do?" I was filled with questions.

"Whatever she's up to, this is our chance." A sharp glint flashed in Gu Yichen's eyes. "We'll expose her true colors at this gathering, in front of everyone!"

I took a deep breath and nodded. I knew this would be a war without gunfire, and we had no way out.

A few days later, we returned to the Gu family's old mansion. The moment I stepped into the living room, I sensed something was amiss. Everyone wore subtle expressions, their gazes towards Gu Yichen and me filled with scrutiny and inquiry. Du Yue sat in the main seat, a fake smile on her face, as if everything was under her control. My heart sank. This trap was far more dangerous than I had imagined.
