Love is a mistake that cannot be escaped

"you are wrong."

Gu Yichen's voice wasn't loud, but it clearly reached everyone's ears.

The banquet hall fell silent instantly; you could hear a pin drop.

I stared at him in disbelief, not understanding what he meant by that.

Du Yue clearly hadn't expected him to contradict her in public, and her smile froze slightly: "Yi Chen, what are you saying? I don't understand?"

“I’m telling you, you will never be a good wife or a good mother.” Gu Yichen coldly shook off her hand, his gaze piercing. “Because you simply don’t deserve it.”

Du Yue's face turned deathly pale instantly, and a hint of panic flashed in her eyes, but she quickly calmed down: "Yi Chen, I know you're still angry with me, but we can resolve our issues privately. There's no need to make things so awkward, is there?"

"Making a scene?" Gu Yichen sneered, pulling a document from his pocket and holding it high. "Do you think I don't know your purpose in approaching my father? Do you think I don't know what you're holding?"

My heart sank. Did he know that Du Yue had access to company secrets?

Du Yue's expression changed drastically, and her voice became shrill: "What nonsense are you spouting? I don't understand!"

"Is that so?" Gu Yichen calmly opened the document. "I think you should be very familiar with this document, right? It contains evidence of how you have abused your position to embezzle company assets over the years, and even colluded with outsiders to try to steal company secrets."

"You...you actually investigated me?" Du Yue pointed at Gu Yichen in a fit of rage, but couldn't utter a single word.

"We're not investigating you, we're waiting for you to walk right into our trap."

Gu Yichen threw the documents at her feet. "Du Yue, let me tell you, you better pray that these things never leak out, otherwise..."

He paused, then said, word by word, "I will make you pay a terrible price!"

Du Yue felt as if all her strength had been drained away, collapsing to the ground, her face as pale as paper.

People around her began to whisper, their gazes filled with disdain and contempt.

My heart felt like it was being tightly gripped by something, and it ached in waves.

I know that this war has only just begun.

The banquet ended unhappily, and Gu Yichen and I took the adorable child home.

We didn't speak a word the whole way; the atmosphere in the carriage was so oppressive it was hard to breathe.

"Dad, Mom, don't worry, I will protect you!"

The adorable toddler suddenly hugged my leg and said in a sweet, childish voice.

I looked down at him, forcing back the tears welling up in my eyes, and managed a smile: "Honey, thank you, but this is a complicated matter, not something you can handle."

"No, I can do it!" The little guy broke free from my embrace and ran to the study. A moment later, he came running back with a tablet computer. "Mom and Dad, look!"

I took the tablet and found that it displayed a surveillance video.

The video was recorded this afternoon in the hotel garden.

In the video, Du Yue is on the phone with a man. Although it is impossible to hear what they are saying, Du Yue's expression and tone show that she is very agitated, even somewhat hysterical.

"Who is this man?" I asked, puzzled.

"I don't know, but I heard him say, 'Don't worry, everything is going according to plan,'" the little girl said, pointing at the man on the screen.

My heart skipped a beat. Could there be someone else behind Du Yue?

"It seems we need to investigate this man thoroughly."

Gu Yichen said in a deep voice, a cold glint flashing in his eyes.

Over the next few days, Gu Yichen and I began to investigate Du Yue's background.

We discovered that before marrying Gu Yichen's father, Du Yue worked for a foreign company. The boss behind this company was a very mysterious figure. No one knew his true identity, only that his surname was Zhao and that he had the power to influence the business world.

Could it be that the person behind Du Yue is this mysterious Mr. Zhao?

The thought flashed through my mind like lightning. Gu Yichen and I exchanged a glance, both harboring the same suspicion. To confirm our idea, we decided to start with the foreign company where Du Yue had previously worked.

Gu Yichen immediately contacted his friend in the tech department, hoping to crack the code. A few days later, his friend brought good news: the code had been cracked, and it contained crucial information about a transnational corporate espionage case—the target company was none other than Gu Yichen's!

"Who are you? Why are you doing this?" Gu Yichen asked, barely suppressing his anger.

"Who I am is not important; what is important is that I know what you want."

The other party didn't answer Gu Yichen's question, but instead changed the subject, "Do you want to know the truth about your father's car accident? Do you want to know who orchestrated all of this? I can tell you the answer, but you must agree to one condition..."

The other person's words exploded in my ears like thunder. Gu Yichen's father's car accident has always been a knot in his heart. Could there be another hidden story behind this?

I gripped Gu Yichen's hand tightly, feeling the trembling in it, and my heart pounded in my chest.

"What are the conditions?" Gu Yichen's voice was hoarse, filled with suppressed pain.
