The wealthy military officer spoils his wife excessively
Chapter 68 The Date is Settled
"Then tell my mom... tell her what... what does that mean?" She couldn't bring herself to say the exact words; it was too embarrassing.
Lu Zheng turned her shoulder around, looked her straight in the eye, and said half-jokingly and half-seriously, "Even an ugly daughter-in-law has to meet her in-laws eventually. Are you planning to hide her forever?"
One sentence made her laugh, and she nudged her, her voice becoming weak and feeble: "Are you an ugly daughter-in-law?"
"Of course not. I am your most handsome and capable husband."
In moments of sweetness, no amount of sweet talk feels cloying. Suwen, nestled in his arms, felt a growing sense of defeat. Her husband… his marriage, perhaps, was beyond even his own control.
His mind was a complete blank when his lips were about to fall. Just then, the kitchen door, slightly ajar, was suddenly pushed open with a creak, followed by Zhou Mo's voice: "Um..."
Su Wen was stunned, and before she could react, Lu Zheng had already silently taken a half step back. Zhou Mo, however, had obviously witnessed their embrace and looked somewhat embarrassed: "I just wanted to ask... if the food is ready..."
That day, Zhou Mo ate too much; then she took stomach medicine, but it didn't help, so she went to the hospital; and then, that was the end of that...
The sports car detoured to the China World Trade Center. Su Wen, arm in arm with Lu Zheng, walked out of the parking lot and into the elevator: "Are you sure you want to go shopping with me?"
"What's there to question?"
"Isn't it because you're afraid of being photographed and having your story written about again?" Suwen laughed after saying that, then changed her tune, "That's right, I'm paying for the clothes, and you're paying for today's news. The cost of our shopping trip is really high."
It was a weekend, and the bustling streets were filled with all sorts of people dressed in various styles. Whether it was a department store with international brands or a small boutique, it was all worth a visit. Su Wen took out her sunglasses and baseball cap and walked arm in arm with Lu Zheng, blending into the crowd.
With so many people rushing by, no one would stop to notice someone dressed casually and discreetly. Nie Suwen, in her casual attire, was the kind of person who would be completely lost in the crowd.
Compared to her own casual attire, Lu Zheng's formal shirt and trousers seemed out of place. Well, actually, it was her who looked out of place; he still exuded elegance and grace.
The closer they got to the commercial center, the more crowded it became, and Suwen's hand, which was draped over his arm, was quickly pulled away.
But the next second, her hand, which had missed its target, was tightly grasped in Lu Zheng's hand.
He looked at her with a mixture of reproach and helplessness: "Can't you even hold on tight to me?"
These words were actually somewhat ambiguous. However, Lu Zheng may not have meant it that way when he said it, but Su Wen found it strange to her. Her sweaty hand twisted in his palm again, but he pulled her close and held her wrist firmly.
Squeezed in the crowd, they were just like any other ordinary couple, holding hands and kissing cheeks affectionately, openly and honestly. This was something Suwen would never have dared to even imagine before.
With a shopping urge on her, Suwen stared at Lu Zheng beside her, her eyes darting around as she began to plan what to buy for him. They happened to pass a trendy clothing store popular with young people, and Suwen's unique decor immediately caught her eye. She excitedly pulled him inside.
Lu Zheng's expression was somewhat subtle. Looking at the teenagers in their late 80s or early 90s coming and going in the store, he felt uneasy.
Suwen saw through his thoughts at a glance, picked out a nicely washed, distressed denim shirt from the hanger, and slapped it on him: "What are you looking at? You're not much older than them. Always acting all old-fashioned, don't you ever get tired of wearing suits?"
"Why would I dress so flashy when I'm not a celebrity?" Lu Zheng frowned, trying to tuck the clothes back in when she wasn't looking.
Suwen caught him red-handed at a glance, pushed him into the fitting room, and casually grabbed a pair of matte black casual pants from the rack and threw them in, emphasizing, "Change into these too."
Lu Zheng's reluctant face disappeared behind the curtain. Su Wen rubbed her chin, searching through the clothes rack, thinking: It seems something is still missing.
She was engrossed in picking out accessories when the fitting room door opened from behind.
Suwen turned her head to look.
stunned.
She admitted that she was very blunt and couldn't help but laugh.
He's actually still quite handsome. It's just that he's so different from the Lu Zheng we know.
Gone is that aloof tone, no longer high and mighty, no longer unattainable, only a clean and handsome look remains, as if he were another person who looks exactly like him.
However… having a good figure is definitely an advantage. With long arms and legs, just standing there, he instantly attracts a lot of attention. Su Wen even saw many infatuated girls casting fatal rays of light at him. Free handsome men are practically free; they were drooling.
Suwen immediately felt that something about her had been seen through. Looking down, she saw that he was still wearing her expensive calfskin shoes, so she casually pulled a pair of low-top sneakers from the wooden shelf and gave them to him: "Change your shoes too."
The dressing room door closed again, and Suwen finally calmed down. She thought to herself, "I really want to hide him away."
Lu Zheng walked out again, this time looking perfectly at ease. Stepping onto the street, he was the undisputed king of the overpass.
Lu Zheng, with his hands in his pockets, shrugged at her nonchalantly.
Su Wen was slow to react for a moment, then slowly raised a thumb and nodded solemnly at him.
Then they both laughed.
Seeing the changes in himself through the full-length mirror, Lu Zheng gradually got used to it and accepted it. He even walked to the women's clothing section with great interest and began to choose clothes for her himself.
Suwen's curiosity was piqued, so she followed behind him and looked around. She was already quite surprised when she saw that closet full of women's clothing. She really didn't know how a man like him could buy women's clothes.
However, seeing the way he was looking down and selecting things, with such a serious expression, she couldn't bring herself to say anything sarcastic.
In no time, he had put together a set of clothes, placed them on Suwen to compare, and then waved his hand: "Go change." Suwen then happily carried the clothes into the dressing room.
She wore a navy blue embroidered camisole, a fitted cotton design with a hem adorned with shimmering gold tassels. For her bottom, Lu Zheng had chosen a bohemian-style maxi skirt with a large hem, made of chiffon with denim and floral patterns. She wore a denim short-sleeved shirt with lace patches over it, which complemented the style Su Wen had chosen for him. When the two stood side by side, they looked like they were wearing matching outfits.
This outfit makes her look tall and slender, as if she's gained several centimeters in height. Suwen already has a slim and slender figure, and with those rhinestone high heels, she's almost as tall as a model.
The two of them stood together and looked so well-matched, a handsome man and a beautiful woman, that onlookers were envious.
A series of gasps and hushed whispers could be heard from the bustling shop.
Suwen didn't notice at first, but when she went to pay the bill, the cashier, a man, kept glancing at her face while calculating the amount. Suwen felt uncomfortable under his gaze and pulled the brim of her hat down even further.
Suddenly, a hand reached around and grabbed her shoulder, pulling her into its embrace.
His movements were so fast that Suwen was caught off guard. Half a second later, she realized that she had to hide her face on his chest so that no one would recognize her.
"The way you're looking at my girlfriend makes me very uncomfortable," Lu Zheng said coldly as he pulled out his credit card.
The man was startled and quickly apologized, saying, "I'm sorry." Lu Zheng lowered his head to sign the credit card, while Su Wen leaned on his shoulder, suppressing the urge to burst out laughing.
“Once you finish filming this movie and have some free time at the end of the year, let’s travel abroad,” he suddenly said. Then, looking at her seriously, he asked, “Where do you like? Europe or Japan, or perhaps Egypt or South America?”
Su Wen felt a little out of sync with him. It was clear that Lu Zheng was very happy today, and everything he said seemed to be on a whim.
She hadn't considered this question because she had never been abroad before!
Why the sudden urge to travel?
"It's too inconvenient in China; I'm always worried about you being recognized. It seems like the only way to hold your hand and go shopping is abroad."
His tone sounded light and joking, but there was a hint of resentment in it.
He didn't actually need to cover for her. Other minor celebrities would probably be eager to be photographed, hoping to hook up with a wealthy young man and skyrocket their careers. But he knew Su Wen was afraid of gossip, so he subtly cooperated with her, spending a fortune to buy out newspaper articles and photos for her sake.
Suwen may not say these things, but she kept them to herself. How could she not know them?
Wearing their respective "battle outfits" chosen for each other, they went on a shopping spree at the department store, going from the first floor to the sixth floor. At an astonishing speed, they bought a ton of essential and non-essential items, from clothes, shoes, socks, toiletries, lamps, and decorations to bedding, carpets, and appliances. In the end, Assistant Xu had to call a delivery truck to transport everything away.
Suwen was going crazy, watching him swipe his credit card without batting an eye: "Are you planning to move?"
“It’s not me, it’s you.” He signed the bill very seriously.
Ever since Lu Zheng learned that Su Wen's new home was furnished with furniture from the previous owner, who was a man, he had been resentful. No way, how could his woman sleep in another man's bed!
Although the logic was a bit strange, Lu Zheng still seized the opportunity to implement it firmly. Besides, her new house was really too empty; if she cleared out everything left by the previous landlord, there would be almost nothing left.
So let's fill it up for now.
When they got home, Xiang Ru was almost dumbfounded as she watched the movers carry large pieces of furniture and appliances into the house. Meanwhile, Lu Zheng stood at the door, displaying the demeanor of a company leader, and methodically directed the movers to arrange the furniture.
Xiang Ru, alarmed, pulled Su Wen aside and asked, "What are you doing?"
