The wealthy military officer spoils his wife excessively
Chapter 5 A Journey of Life and Death
The semester was drawing to a close, and while other students were happily planning their holiday trips or going home after finishing their exams, she was troubled as she looked at the money tucked inside her textbooks. After half a semester, she had only saved less than a thousand yuan, far from enough to cover tuition and accommodation fees.
Back then, a group of girls in my class would often come back after curfew, walking around in the middle of the night, howling and crying, dressed provocatively, and reeking of alcohol. Their families weren't particularly wealthy, but they spent money extravagantly, even wearing clothes that were so scantily clad they barely covered their bodies, which were designer brands costing thousands of dollars.
Seeing her looking at the money with a worried expression, a girl who had just finished putting on makeup in the women's restroom called her name: "Hey, Nie Suwen."
She looked up and met the girl's still-developing little steamed buns, and wondered how much effort she had put in to create that faint cleavage between them. It truly proved the saying: time is like cleavage; if you squeeze, you'll always find it.
Seeing the blank look in her eyes, the girl introduced herself first: "I'm Zhou Qian, from the Mechanical and Electrical Engineering department. Would you like to make money with us?"
Su Wen glanced at her attire up and down, but didn't answer. Zhou Qian noticed her hesitation: "Don't worry, we're not making money by selling our bodies. You know the Snowfield Road racetrack? As long as you're good-looking enough, any driver can take you out for a lap and you'll get paid." She held up her fingers to indicate, "At least this much."
Su Wen was a little incredulous and asked blankly, "Two hundred?"
"Two thousand." Zhou Yu smiled disdainfully. "That's considered low. If the driver you're with comes in first place, the reward will be at least five thousand or more."
"So, are you in or not?" Zhou Qian asked, getting closer. A little gold powder from the corner of her eye fell as she raised her eyebrows, shimmering in the sunset. For the first time, Su Su found Zhou Qian's rough voice alluring. She hesitated, looking around. Seeing her hesitation, Zhou Qian tentatively said, "You can come with me tonight to broaden your horizons before deciding whether to do it. But your outfit won't do."
Without saying a word, she unbuttoned the bottom three buttons of Suwen's shirt, pulled it up above her waist, tied a knot, revealing a section of her slender waist including her navel, and then pulled her school uniform skirt down a bit, almost revealing her buttocks, before clapping her hands in satisfaction.
Suwen felt a sudden chill on her waist and awkwardly hunched over. Zhou Qian then said, "I still need to do your makeup."
"Do I have to make my makeup look like her monkey's butt?" Su Wen didn't dare to say it aloud and decisively rejected Zhou Qian's "kindness," saying, "I'll do it myself."
She casually brushed a layer of ochre into her eye sockets with a small cotton swab, then twisted on lipstick, applying a dot of Zhou Yu's favorite blood red to the center of her lips, and then blended it with her finger, instantly giving her a charming look to her otherwise plain face.
Zhou Qian was quite pleased with her outfit. A group of girls who had just turned eighteen squeezed onto the bus in such a "cool" way, laughing and joking all the way, the atmosphere like they were going on a picnic. Su Wen leaned against the window, tucking a strand of hair that had been blown by the wind behind her ear. The scenery in front of her was changing rapidly, and the road ahead was still not very clear.
The bus stopped at the intersection of Xueyuan Road and Tonghui Road, and Zhou Yu led a group of girls along the roadside. This area had originally been designated as a development zone, so farmland and other land had been leveled and paved with smooth roads. However, foreign investment was slow to materialize, so projects had to be shelved, leaving it a remote vacant lot.
When Suwen and her friends arrived, several modified sports cars were already parked on the wide road. Their lines were sleek, and their colors vibrant. Suwen had seen many car models since childhood, and she immediately recognized that these were illegally modified. Moreover, the race itself was illegal; there was no racetrack, no security, only some fashionably dressed young men and women celebrating with beer and colorful flags.
Just as she was about to get nervous, Zhou Qian gave her a push and pointed to a group of well-dressed men in the crowd surrounding the sports car, saying, "Look, these are tonight's drivers. Go over there, and if they pick you, you won't have to worry about money."
Before he finished speaking, several girls who had come with him had already swayed over to him. There were also many other girls present, each dressed more revealingly than the last, with flamboyant makeup. Some of them even started arguing over a spot.
The other drivers quickly chose their "babies," but one car remained surrounded by a group of girls, arguing incessantly. The driver seemed oblivious to their quarrel, sitting alone on the hood, smoking one cigarette after another.
Suwen thought that if she returned empty-handed, she might as well stand in the supermarket all night and at least earn back her fare.
She tossed her long, loose hair, walked up to the driver who was engrossed in smoking, extended a small, fair hand, took the cigarette from his mouth, and said softly, "May I sit next to you?"
Suddenly finding himself speechless, Lu Zheng hesitated before raising his head. His gaze moved from Su Wen's slender legs to her fair and delicate waist, then slowly upwards, finally settling on her ethereal eyes.
“It’s you…” He frowned unconsciously. Why is it that every time he runs into her, it’s never somewhere a proper girl should be going?
Su Wen was also surprised and opened her mouth wide. After a while, she laughed happily and called his name in a giggle: "Lu Zheng, it's me, Su Su. Do you remember me? I didn't expect the car owner to be you... That's great, can you give me a ride?"
He understood perfectly well what she meant by "giving her a ride." Wasn't the nightclub fee enough for her expenses each night? Why would she risk her life to make money in a place like this?
At that time, Suwen did not know that their so-called competition was actually a life-or-death game, and she could not see at all that these rich young men were tired of living.
It wasn't until Su Wen finally got into Lu Zheng's car that she truly regretted it. The rapid speed made her face pale; she felt as if she were floating in mid-air, about to fall at any moment, while Lu Zheng beside her continued to accelerate, turn, and drift…
Several times, when race cars tried to squeeze past him and overtake him, Lu Zheng would swerve sharply and block the road in the middle, preventing them from passing. Every time death seemed to brush past him, he would step on the gas pedal without any hesitation!
Suwen quickly understood why each driver had to bring a female companion, because on this "journey of life and death," the ladies needed to entrust their lives to the men beside them.
Her stomach was churning violently. She kept her eyes tightly shut. In addition to the roar of the engine, she gradually heard a frenzied shouting. Just as Su Wen opened her eyes, Lu Zheng's sports car broke through the red line!
A black-clad crowd surged forward, surrounding them inside the car, cheering and screaming.
Lu Zheng, clearly accustomed to such victories, calmly got out of the car, took the swirling champagne bottle, and popped it open with a "bang," the fragrant liquid splashing everywhere. Someone handed him a thick wad of pink banknotes, which Lu Zheng didn't even glance at, clutching them in his hand and scattering them into the air. The pink bills fell like a rain of red. Everyone excitedly crouched down to pick them up, some shouting Lu Zheng's name, others yelling "Long live Lu Zheng!"
Su Wen's face was pale, and it took her a while to stagger off the car. Looking at the backs of those rushing to pick up the items, she didn't know whether she should squat down and pick them up like them.
Lu Zheng, on the other hand, was like a god looking down on the world, sitting elegantly on the hood of the car, sipping his victorious champagne while looking down at all the people around him.
Su Wen stared blankly at the banknotes flying everywhere, then suddenly came to her senses and reached out to grab them, but the man's strong and powerful hand grabbed her first.
Lu Zheng stared at her expressionlessly and said, word by word, "How can my woman be like them, squatting on the ground picking up money?"
Suwen was held by the wrist and couldn't move. The darkness in his eyes at that moment seemed like the calm before a storm, making her feel a little afraid.
She closed her eyes and said matter-of-factly, "But I came here to make money."
"Hmph," he scoffed, released her hand, and just like last time, took out all the cash from his wallet and stuffed it into her hand.
She clutched the money stiffly in her hand; the banknotes seemed to still carry his warmth, scalding her skin. For some reason, a pang of sadness welled up inside her, but she still smiled and repeated, "Thank you, boss."
Her smile was still as beautiful as ever, sweetly revealing two adorable dimples. But to him, it was an eyesore. Impatiently, he grabbed her wrist, shoved her back into the car, and slammed the door shut. He quickly got into the driver's seat, while the crowd who had already collected the money stood up, staring at the scene in astonishment.
Suddenly, a man clutching a handful of banknotes shouted, "Have a good time tonight, everyone! Lu Zheng said it's on him!"
A tremendous cheer erupted from the crowd, quickly forgetting the protagonist of the evening. Lu Zheng, carrying Nie Suwen, slowly drove out of the snowfield road.
The car stopped outside a bar in the city center. This bar was different from the one where they first met; the venue and atmosphere were much more luxurious. The waiter skillfully led Lu Zheng to park the car. He got out, grabbed Nie Suwen, and pulled her inside by the arm.
Suwen winced in pain: "Why did you bring me here? I have class tomorrow morning."
"Don't you always 'work' at this time?" He emphasized the word "work," his tone dripping with sarcasm.
She paused, remembering how he had initially thought she was a call girl from a nightclub. Tonight, she had also taken his money. She patted the thick wad of bills in her pocket, then smiled sweetly, "I hope my service tonight will satisfy you too."
A powerful punch landed on cotton. Lu Zheng snorted coldly and walked into the private room with a livid face.
As soon as the door opened, there were loud popping sounds in the air, startling Su Wen. Then, countless streamers sprayed towards them, and everyone held up a can of beer, thrusting it in front of Lu Zheng. Someone drawled out, "—"
