The wealthy military officer spoils his wife excessively
Chapter 136: Cuddling Together
Lu Zheng nodded blankly, looking at her curled up in pain, wishing he could take her pain away from her.
After the doctors and nurses left, the ward fell silent again. Lu Zheng sat beside her, his fingers trembling slightly. He wanted to touch her face, but seemed to hesitate. It was as if overnight, his young and handsome face had become much more weathered. Had he been by her side all this time? No wonder it was like this…
Suwen lay quietly on the hospital bed, surrounded by the pungent smell of disinfectant. She had said that she had hated hospitals and was afraid of injections since she was a child, but lately, perhaps due to bad luck, she had been frequently visiting hospitals. After this experience, she probably never wanted to go to a hospital again, because it had left her with a deep-seated fear that would likely haunt her for the rest of her life.
Lu Zheng seemed unsure of what to say. Aside from a few excited questions he asked her when she first woke up, he had remained quiet until now. The two were so close, yet they remained speechless.
Finally, Lu Zheng couldn't hold back any longer. He shifted his body, turned around, poured himself a glass of water, and asked her, "Do you want some water?...Take your medicine first?"
He searched through all languages before finding this sentence.
Suwen nodded, and he immediately and carefully supported her body, helping her sit up a little, and brought warm water to her lips. He was so careful, as if she were a fragile piece of glass, afraid that she might accidentally bump into something and get hurt.
Suwen took a sip of water from his hand and then swallowed the painkiller. Lu Zheng put the cup aside, helped her lie down, and tucked her in.
His every move was like that of a child who had made a mistake.
Suwen felt a pang of heartache. It wasn't his fault; it was all because of her own stubbornness that she had suffered so much and caused him so much worry. She didn't know how to comfort him, but she herself was already in enough pain. Moving was difficult, speaking was difficult, even breathing seemed difficult. The moment she learned she had lost her child, she was truly devastated, as if someone had forced a mouthful of bitter medicine down her throat, her mouth filled with bitterness, stuck there, and she could only swallow it down with tears in her eyes.
Just thinking about it fills her eyes with tears, blurring her vision.
Touching her tears, Lu Zheng's heart clenched again. He turned his face away and said, "Don't cry. The old folks say it's bad to cry at this time, or it will cause you health problems in the future."
She knew it, but she couldn't hold back her tears, which fell like beads from a broken string, soaking the entire pillowcase.
Lu Zheng had no choice but to sit beside her and pull her into his arms. He leaned against the headboard, and Su Wen buried her face in his chest, finally feeling a little warmth. Large tears streamed down her face, soaking his sweater. Like a child, she clung to his arm, crying and crying, as if she had endless tears, gasping, "I'm not reconciled... I'm really not reconciled..."
She is like an unkillable cockroach, Nie Suwen. From childhood to adulthood, although life has had its ups and downs, she has always persevered with her resilient and optimistic nature. The most difficult time was when her parents divorced. Apart from one of them slapping her, they left her nothing.
She thought that was the biggest blow yet; how much worse could things get?
But it turned out to be more than that. God always manages to knock you down easily when you least expect it. She admitted she had fallen this time, taken a complete and utter tumble on the path of life, and the price was that a piece of her flesh was ripped out of her womb. She hadn't even had a chance to see her and Lu Zheng's child, to hear him call her "Mom," and she hadn't even decided what to name a boy or a girl.
But the culprit… she remembered the wrinkled face she saw in the last moments before falling into a coma. It was her grandfather. The person she dared not approach in this world, someone so high and mighty. How could she accuse him? Intentional injury, or premeditated murder?
No one will listen to her; they will just say that she accidentally fell down the stairs.
Her child was gone, and no one stood up to give her justice.
No matter how much you regret it, it's all in vain; all that effort is just a feeling of resentment.
Lu Zheng held her in his arms, his large hand gently stroking her back. She clutched his clothes, crying and crying until she fell into a deep sleep. Only when he saw her sleeping in his arms like a small animal did he finally feel at ease.
A dull ache started in his ribs again. She had her accident that night, and he hadn't had time to treat his own wounds. He knew there were no broken bones, but for some reason, the pain had been intermittent ever since her accident. Now he was starting to believe that women were like ribs taken from men; whenever something happened to her, that spot seemed to ache inexplicably.
In the middle of the night, the nurses came for their routine rounds.
Nie Suwen had a very long dream. In the dream, she was running up a staircase, which spiraled upwards. She looked up and couldn't see where the end was. She didn't know how long she would climb, nor why she was climbing the stairs. Her feet just kept moving up the stairs, panting and sweating profusely, as if she couldn't stop.
It seemed someone touched her hand. She screamed in surprise, and the steps beneath her feet suddenly disappeared. She fell down like a kite with a broken string, without any warning.
However, dreams are different from reality. In reality, she might fall to the ground in the blink of an eye, but in dreams, the process is endlessly prolonged. She keeps falling in the air, and the panic, endless worry and fear are just like in reality. However, reality is only a moment, but in dreams, that anxiety torments her.
She broke out in a cold sweat and sat bolt upright in bed: "No, my child!"
The nurse who covered her with a blanket was startled and almost dropped the syringe and stethoscope she was holding.
Nie Suwen stared nervously at the unfamiliar face before her. The young nurse hesitated for a moment, then stepped forward to ask, "How are you...?"
However, with a "smack," she slapped her hand away: "Don't touch me! What do you want to do to my child?"
She gripped the blanket tightly, shaking her head and backing away desperately, struggling between reality and dream, like a frightened child.
"What did you say? Didn't you already have a miscarriage?" The nurse was also confused. The patient in this room seemed to be someone important. Her superiors had always instructed her to take good care of her and not to make any mistakes. That's why she came to check on the situation in the middle of the night. She never expected to stumble upon this situation.
"You're talking nonsense. My child is perfectly fine. It's you who want to harm him..." She curled up even tighter, her bright eyes wide open in the pitch-black room.
The nurse was terrified by her condition and immediately dropped her stethoscope, running out to call the doctor. After a while, the attending physician in charge of Nie Suwen walked in wearing a white coat, followed by a group of nurses. Nie Suwen was still in shock when suddenly a blinding white light shone above her head. She instinctively shielded her eyes with her hand and saw a group of people filing in through her fingers.
The doctor was also puzzled by her condition. He held a flashlight to check her pupils, but Nie Suwen was so frightened that she backed away repeatedly, asking, "What are you going to do?"
Seeing that she was not cooperating, several nurses spontaneously went up to hold her hands down. Nie Suwen struggled even harder, like a frightened child, kicking over the IV stand. A chaotic clattering sound woke up Lu Zheng, who was sleeping in the next room. He jumped out of bed with his coat on and slippers on his feet. He was stunned when he entered the room and saw the scene.
The doctor explained to him, "The patient's condition is a bit abnormal. It is suspected that she hit her head when she fell. The patient refused to cooperate with the examination, so we had no choice but to give her a sedative first."
The doctor shook his head, and two more nurses went over and held down her legs. A nurse came over with a syringe in her hand and grabbed her thin arm.
Nie Suwen's eyes widened as she stared in horror at the syringe in her hand.
"I'm perfectly fine, why are you giving me a shot! I don't want it, I don't want it!"
Lu Zheng frowned, his hands hanging at his sides clenched into fists.
The doctor professionally reassured her, "It's okay, you'll fall asleep after the injection."
"I don't want to... Let go, let me go!" she screamed hoarsely, her eyes falling on Lu Zheng at the door as if she had seen a savior. "Lu Zheng, save me... They want to get rid of my child, please save me!"
Even Lu Zheng was stunned by those words. The child was clearly already...
In the instant he froze, the nurse was already preparing an IV drip with an alcohol swab. He watched helplessly as the needle was aimed at her, seeing her panic and helplessness. Suddenly, he rushed forward and knocked the syringe out of the nurse's hand: "Enough!"
"She's not sick, she's perfectly fine, she doesn't need a shot!"
The doctor and nurses exchanged bewildered glances. Lu Zheng, however, disregarded everything else and held Nie Suwen, who was trembling with fear as if hiccuping, tightly in his arms, repeatedly reassuring her, "It's alright, I'm here, it'll be alright."
The attending physician wanted to say something more, but Lu Zheng gave him a cold look and warned, "She's my fiancée. If anyone dares to touch her again, don't blame me for being impolite."
The crowd was embarrassed. The patient and his family were not cooperating with the treatment, and the medical staff had no choice but to disperse.
Once the ward had quieted down again, Lu Zheng carefully pulled her face away from his embrace. She was nestled in his arms, crying so hard she could barely breathe, her little face flushed red. Seeing this broke his heart. With a mixture of heartache and tenderness, he gently kissed away her tears, unsure of what to say to comfort her, only repeatedly murmuring, "It's alright, it's alright..."
It was as if he was comforting her, or perhaps talking to himself.
