The wealthy military officer spoils his wife excessively
Chapter 113 Suspected Pregnancy
The two young girls washing their hair behind them laughed when they heard this. Suwen didn't reply; every business has its difficulties.
"By the way, have you bought your train ticket? If you're still staying in Beijing this Spring Festival, come to my house for the holiday. It's just an extra pair of chopsticks and bowls, and it'll be more lively with one more person. You can sleep in the same bed with me tonight, and there will be another person to warm my blankets."
Zhou Mo lazily closed her eyes: "You wish! I'm not going to warm your bed. Go find your Mr. Lu."
"So you're going home this year?"
"I'm not going back. I'll finish the manuscript, collect the payment, and go abroad for a stroll... Hey girl, just there, scratch it again, it's itchy."
Su Wen was a little taken aback, and turned her head while resting her head on the pool: "Go abroad? Where to?"
"The United States of America," Ya said smugly.
Suwen realized what was going on: "So that's why you suddenly thought of this grand project of getting a new hairstyle. You were going to meet your boyfriend."
Zhou Mo has a boyfriend she's been dating for seven years. He's two years older than her, a genuine Tsinghua University science and engineering graduate, and his temperament is quite different from Zhou Mo's, a film school artsy young woman. Su Wen met the man once, and to be honest, it felt a bit awkward.
Even the leftovers from film school, the flawed beauties, would still stand out in a crowd, and Zhou Mo was no exception. Even without her heels, she was still a good 1.67 meters tall, and her boyfriend looked to be at most 1.7 meters, and that was a conservative estimate. Therefore, Zhou Mo never wore heels when she was with her boyfriend.
However, her boyfriend was short in stature but ambitious. Four years ago, he applied to a science and technology university in the United States for a combined master's and doctoral degree. He embarked on his journey of studying abroad with the fervent expectations of the Party and the people. He studied for five years, leaving Zhou Mo, a poor daughter-in-law in China, to finally become a mother-in-law.
This is the fourth year already, and the frequency of their meetings has increased from every six months to a year. According to Zhou Mo's own statistics, they haven't seen each other for seventeen months now, which is even more miserable than the annual meeting of the Seven Fairies and Dong Yong on the Magpie Bridge.
Fortunately, one of them is a dedicated STEM student focused solely on scientific research, while the other is a struggling romance novelist whose fantasies about real men have been shattered by the handsome men in novels. Therefore, there are no concerns about infidelity or cheating. Their long-distance relationship across the Pacific Ocean has been smooth sailing without any major problems.
Sometimes, seeing Zhou Mo's perseverance, Su Wen couldn't help but silently cheer her on. She sincerely hoped that her best friend could get married to her boyfriend and find her own happiness and sweetness.
After saying goodbye to Zhou Mo, Su Wen returned home. Her mother had already finished dinner and left some food for her on the table.
Too lazy to heat it up, she simply heated the rice in the rice cooker and ate a couple of bites with the cold dishes. Just as she picked up a piece of braised fish, a sour, fishy feeling suddenly surged in her stomach. She abruptly dropped her chopsticks, rushed into the bathroom, and threw herself against the toilet to vomit.
The toilet was thoroughly cleaned, but the smell only intensified her nausea. Finally, she vomited everything up; she'd only eaten a few bites that evening, and now she'd probably vomited up even the leftovers from the previous night.
Suwen, exhausted from vomiting, struggled to get up, turned on the tap, and poured water on her face.
She used to go hungry and have irregular eating habits because of work, and now the consequences are coming. She really needs to take good care of herself while she's free, otherwise she'll ruin her health before she even makes a comeback.
Before the Lunar New Year, Suwen basically stayed home, eating and sleeping all the time. Occasionally, she would receive a few phone calls, mostly from Yezi or Xiao Ai, just to say hello and offer a few words of comfort, telling her to keep a calm mind. They didn't mention anything about work; if they didn't bring it up, it meant things hadn't improved, and she saw no need to ask.
This Spring Festival, Zhou Mo left her and went overseas to find love. Lu Zheng was too busy with the company's year-end party and could only contact her by phone occasionally. Nie Suwen became all alone, occasionally helping her mother make pickled vegetables and dry some goods.
Two days later, the aunt who used to walk her dog downstairs really did bring her little niece over to ask for an autograph. Xiang Ru opened the door, looking completely bewildered, thinking she had the wrong house. But when Su Wen came out of the room, the fourteen-year-old girl, still in junior high school, pointed at her in surprise and was about to rush in: "Ah, you're Sister Long Kui!"
I'm just a naive girl. I haven't seen any of her movies yet; my impression of her is only from her fairy-like appearance in TV dramas.
The woman seemed embarrassed and patted the little girl's head, saying, "You can't be unruly."
Suwen quickly told Xiangru to open the door and invite the guests in. She didn't know many people in this area anyway, and maintaining harmonious neighborly relations was quite difficult.
When children see their idols, everything is new and exciting. After getting an autographed photo, she wanted to visit her room. Suwen didn't have any privacy issues, so she let her in.
The woman apologized to her repeatedly, saying that the child was just being silly and asked her not to take offense.
Suwen smiled and said it was okay, she also liked children.
Since it was the Lunar New Year, the other party couldn't come empty-handed, so they brought a basket of fruit and some New Year's goods prepared at home, all homemade and of high quality. Suwen accepted the gifts while thanking them, and asked Xiangru to take them inside. When she received the braised eggs, they were all peeled and placed in a teacup, showing the other party's thoughtfulness.
When Suwen smelled the egg, her stomach churned with acid. She forced herself to put the teacup on the table and then squatted on the ground, looking like she wanted to vomit but couldn't.
The woman seemed concerned and helped her up, asking, "What's wrong? Do you need to go to the hospital?"
She gave a weak smile and said, "It's nothing, just a stomachache."
Just then, the little girl rushed out of her room and saw her idol squatting on the ground looking like she was in a lot of pain. She obediently patted her back and called out, "Sister." Then she asked her aunt, "Sister, are you about to have a baby? That's how it is on TV."
A celebrity getting pregnant is no ordinary matter. The aunt quickly patted her niece: "Don't talk nonsense. Your sister has a stomachache. She'll be fine if she goes to the hospital."
Just then, Xiang Ru finished putting down the food and came out of the kitchen. She saw Nie Suwen squatting on the ground, looking pale and her expression was also off.
The aunt thought she was worried and quickly reassured her, "It's okay, maybe it's just too much stomach acid. I had the same thing for a while, and I thought I was pregnant again, but it turned out to be a false alarm. Why don't I introduce you to an old Chinese medicine doctor to take your pulse? He's quite good at treating stomach problems."
At this point, a terrifying thought suddenly flashed through Nie Suwen's mind, and her expression immediately changed.
She looked up and suddenly met her mother's thoughtful expression. She quickly sat up and forced a smile: "It's nothing. It's just an old problem from my irregular eating habits. I'll be fine in a bit. Look, I'm fine now."
"It's good that you're alright, but I still suggest you go to the hospital to get it checked out. Don't think that just because it's a minor illness you can ignore it. Many minor illnesses, if left untreated, can turn into serious ones. It's best to get treatment as soon as possible if you're sick."
Suwen nodded repeatedly in agreement before seeing the aunt and her niece off.
As soon as I closed the door and turned around, I was met with Xiang Ru's solemn expression.
"Did you and Xiao Lu do 'that' before you were married?"
Xiang Ru spoke bluntly, and Su Wen's face paled. She turned away and said dismissively, "Mom, what era are we living in? It's normal to date and have sex. Besides, I already said it's just a stomach ailment. Why are you so nervous?"
"Stomach problems?" Xiang Ru's voice was icy, clearly showing disbelief. "Why have I never heard you mention stomach aches before? I've been through this, and you're exactly like me when I was pregnant with you and experiencing morning sickness. Tell me honestly, did you two not use protection?"
"Mom, what kind of questions are you asking? Aren't you ashamed?!"
Su Wen tried to go into the room, but Xiang Ru grabbed her arm: "Don't try to fool me. Last time Xiao Lu came to our house, I hadn't even asked him a couple of questions before you interrupted me. If he didn't have the intention, he wouldn't have come to see me. When you two were together, he never mentioned marriage at all? You were just fooled by him like that?"
Suwen frowned upon hearing this: "What do you mean by lying? My relationship with him was consensual. Don't make it sound like he owes me something. It's just a hymen, who cares about that now? I didn't ask him to take responsibility. Besides, do you think your daughter suddenly had such good fortune, getting offers to act in TV shows and movies, and even earning enough to buy a house?"
As expected, Xiang Ru's face turned ashen after hearing this.
"So you mean you two weren't truly in love, and your relationship was... that kind of dirty thing?"
Suwen felt that the more she explained to her mother, the less clear things became.
"How many times have I told you, a girl should respect herself! I never agreed to you studying acting in the first place. What have you learned? All sorts of shameful things! What's most important for a girl? Her integrity! Can't you live a decent life with your own hands? You have to sleep with people to earn money. If you got this house by sleeping with people, then I won't live here anymore. I think it's dirty. Whether I sleep on the streets or starve, it's none of your business. I don't want you to say I'm a burden to you. I don't have a daughter as shameless as you!"
As her mother spoke, she went into the room to pack her luggage. The sounds of banging and clanging echoed as she opened closet doors and dragged suitcases.
Suwen felt powerless, so she slumped heavily onto the sofa and wiped her eyes.
Is it wrong that the person she likes happens to be very rich and can help her realize her dreams?
Yes, Lu Zheng paved the way for her. Without him, she might still be Nie Suwen, crammed into a dilapidated apartment, never seeing the light of day. But she earned that money through hard work; she didn't do nothing! Yet her mother described her as a "prostitute"! Even so, she's still your own daughter!
After a commotion in her mother's room, everything fell silent. She didn't come out dragging her suitcase.
