Movable type printing is an ancient printing method invented by the ancient Chinese working people through long-term practice and research.

Simply put, the process involves first creating positive relief typefaces for individual characters, then selecting the characters according to the manuscript, arranging them in a type tray, applying ink, and printing. After printing, the typefaces are removed and kept for reuse in the next printing.

The advantages of movable type printing include the ability to reuse type, which improves printing efficiency and reduces printing costs. At the same time, movable type printing also promoted the dissemination and development of culture, making book production more convenient and widespread.

For this reason, Qiao Jingjing also plans to promote it.

The summary is simple, but the actual operation involves many steps. However, the advantage is that the initial work only requires some effort in creating the positive relief and reverse letter mold. Once completed, it can be used to print thousands upon thousands of characters.

She decided to follow the blogger's example and make the clay model. She mixed the clay with water, filtered out the sand and water, and after kneading, wrapped it in oiled paper to age for three months. It would take nine days in a space, which was still a bit long, so she placed it on a mountain, which would shorten the time by three days.

She didn't have the commonly used type templates and type trays needed for making movable type, so she had to find a way to borrow a set. Additionally, firing the type molds required building an earthen kiln. While waiting for the clay to age, she could find an experienced craftsman in the village to make one.

Since printing technology is already being prepared, let's put papermaking on the agenda as well. The spatial data includes two papermaking techniques: bark paper and Xuan paper.

However, considering the difference in raw materials, Xuan paper is more suitable in terms of preservation time and usage effect.

After careful consideration, Qiao Jingjing decided to choose Xuan paper making technology. Next, she began to prepare the materials needed to make Xuan paper, such as sandalwood bark and Shatian rice straw.

Before Xuan paper is made, it goes through a process of preparing the leather and a process of preparing the straw.

The production of papermaking materials mainly refers to the processing of papermaking raw materials such as sandalwood bark fibers. This process involves more than 30 complicated steps, such as peeling, treading, drying into bark, whipping and washing the bark, and bleaching into sandalwood bark fiber materials.

The forage production process mainly involves processing straw fibers such as rice straw, which includes about twenty small steps, such as selecting straw, cutting straw, pounding straw, repeated steaming and sun drying, until finally bleached into straw fiber material.

After these two processes are completed, the ingredients can be prepared for making Xuan paper, which involves mixing sandalwood bark fiber and grass fiber in a certain proportion.

The required proportions will vary depending on the type of paper needed. The prepared materials need to be screened, mixed, washed, etc., and finally made into a mixed pulp.

This mixed pulp is mixed with an appropriate amount of water and glue containing kiwi vine juice. After going through the processes of paper making, pressing, and baking, the quality of the paper and its ink absorption effect are basically determined, thus becoming the base paper for Xuan paper.

Even with the spatial flow rate, this whole process still took a week.

Because it was her first time making it and she lacked experience, the paper had flaws such as cracks and sand particles. Qiao Jingjing simply stayed in the space and experimented repeatedly. She stayed in the space for 2 months (6 days outside) and finally made Xuan paper that was soft and tough, smooth to the touch, and had a flat surface.

Looking at these gives me a great sense of accomplishment.

She also found several experienced villagers to help build the earthen kiln and asked them how to control the fire to ensure that high-quality letter molds could be successfully fired.

With the help of the villagers, the earthen kiln was quickly built. By then, the mud had also passed the time of decay.

Qiao Jingjing excitedly arrived at the place where the mud was placed, eager to see how it would change after being aged. She carefully unfolded the oil paper and saw that the mud had become even finer and softer.

She nodded in satisfaction, then took the mud back to her space and prepared to start making the letter mold.

The writing board was borrowed from the shopkeeper, along with some brushes and other tools.

She rolled the mud into balls of the same size, placed them in the mold, and gently pressed them against the letter plate. The mud balls became square letter molds with characters on them. She arranged them neatly in the plate and put them into the kiln to fire and dry.

After firing, pour the mold into water, add starch and some millet, and boil it to fill some cracks. Finally, let it air dry.

In this way, the words can be selected, sorted, and finally printed according to the content to be printed.

Looking at the empty earthen kiln, Qiao Jingjing simply found some white clay and made earthenware vases. The moon-white minimalist style was extremely beautiful.

On the day Qiao Jingjing and Lu Yuan recognized each other, after returning from the county town, Tantai Zhou, who had originally planned to go down the mountain three days later, had to change his plans.

After being poisoned, his physical condition was extremely poor. In the mountains, the yin energy was heavy, and he was not eating well, so he fell ill.

That day, Xuan Yi couldn't bear to see his master's face so pale and bloodless, so after discussing it with Doctor Feng, they decided to take him down the mountain. Only the two of them accompanied His Highness, while Eleven and the others drilled the soldiers in the valley.

After descending the mountain and reaching the fork in the road, turning left leads to Daba Village, while turning right leads towards the county town.

He had a strange intuition that he wanted to send His Highness to Daba Village. Subconsciously, he felt that perhaps Miss Qiao could help, or at least provide a comfortable environment for His Highness to recuperate.

Going to the county town is too risky.

His Highness's brothers have never given up on placing people in every county and town under his Runan Commandery.

The carriage stopped at the village entrance and waited there. Xuan Yi went to ask Qiao Jingjing for her opinion. If the young lady disagreed, it would be offensive for them to enter the village rashly.

Qiao Jingjing was completely focused on making Xuan paper at the time, and she didn't come out until the stone was pressed onto the wooden board covering the paper and she was waiting for the water to filter.

She assumed Xuan Yi had come to collect the medicinal food packet, so she wasn't in a hurry to come out of her spatial dimension. In fact, she only made him wait for ten minutes.

As soon as I stepped out of the room, I saw Xuan Yi looking anxious. "What's wrong? What happened?"

Xuan Yi almost burst into tears when he saw her. "Miss Qiao, may we stay for a few days? My master is in poor health and needs to find a place to rest. Is this alright for you?"

How could Qiao Jingjing refuse? She couldn't be happier for them to come. She had been thinking about what excuse to use to contact that person, and now they had delivered themselves right to her doorstep.

Xuan Yi was overjoyed to receive permission, when Qiao Jingjing said, "My home isn't suitable. How about this, you can move to the small courtyard I rented before. The rent hasn't expired yet, so you can stay there for now."

Xuan Yi thought about it and agreed. There were three grown men and Miss Qiao, an unmarried woman, staying here would damage their reputation.

"Miss Qiao, I have another request. Could you please save my master? If you can save him, my life, Xuan Yi's life, is yours!"

Qiao Jingjing was speechless. "I don't know medicine. I didn't save you before because of my superior medical skills; it was purely because the medicine was good and you had a good constitution. But you can tell me what's wrong with your young master. Maybe I have some medicine."

Her space contains not only Western medicine, but also ancient prescriptions and some rare herbs. As long as it's not cancer, she should be able to find suitable medicine.

However, she has no way of knowing whether it is cancer or not.
