Chapter 402 Romantic Starry Night
The red curtains fell, candle wax piled up, and the faint sound of sheng and xiao drifted from afar.
Inside the tent, the candlelight flickered, and Qiao Jingjing unconsciously clenched Tantai Zhou's clothes, the silky brocade slightly warm in her palm.
His kiss started gently, then deepened, carrying an irresistible possessiveness, but when he noticed her trembling slightly, he pulled back a little, his nose touching hers, and chuckled softly.
As his fingertips brushed against Qiao Jingjing's neck, they touched a stray, slightly damp hair. The dragon and phoenix candles flickered, casting flowing shadows on the brocade curtains of the canopy bed, where the carved floral patterns were intertwined.
After the kiss ended, the only sound in the quiet room was their soft breathing.
"Scared?" His voice was slightly hoarse as he gently stroked the corner of her lips with his fingertips.
Qiao Jingjing's ears burned, but she refused to back down. She tilted her head back and gently bit his Adam's apple, and was pleased to hear him groan.
Tantai Zhou's eyes darkened suddenly. He grabbed her wrist and pressed it against the pillow, then leaned down and whispered in her ear, "You've got some nerve."
One of the red dates scattered on the bed was crushed, and its sweet aroma mixed with the fragrance of sandalwood spread out.
Qiao Jingjing's wedding robe, adorned with gold thread, caught on Tantai Zhou's jade belt buckle. With a soft tearing sound, he pulled the jade belt out and threw it aside, knocking over the nuptial cup on the bedside table.
The remaining wine soaked through the quilt, revealing dark patterns of mandarin ducks with intertwined necks.
“Tantai Zhou…” She hurriedly reached out to help him, but the ribbon tied with a love knot on her wrist suddenly tightened.
Tantai Zhou pressed her down onto the soft pillow, picked up a strand of her hair and twirled it around his fingertip: "What should I call you, husband, as I just taught you?"
Qiao Jingjing's cheeks burned, and she couldn't bring herself to say the word "husband."
Tantai Zhou buried his face in the crook of her neck and murmured, "I want to take you somewhere, but I need to use your skills. Can you do it?"
Qiao Jingjing thought they were about to get down to business, but he was about to take her somewhere else, which made her curious about what he was going to do.
"What's the big deal? Just tell me the location."
In the blink of an eye, the two of them appeared in a house. As soon as they came out, Qiao Jingjing felt a chill.
The night wind swept across the mountaintop, causing Qiao Jingjing's wedding dress to flutter loudly.
Tantai Zhou took off his outer robe and wrapped it around her, placing his warm palms on her lower back: "If you're cold, lean closer."
Before me stood a small, two-story building constructed entirely of agarwood. A faint, subtle fragrance wafted from the wood grain, blending with the mountain breeze and creating a refreshing atmosphere.
A bronze bell hangs beneath the eaves; when the night wind blows, its clear, melodious sound mingles with the sound of the pine trees and echoes through the air. The sound is clear and far-reaching, as if it can penetrate the clouds.
The little beast crouching on the eaves gleamed in the moonlight; it was a Pixiu carved from a single piece of white jade, with luminous pearls embedded in its eyes.
Tantai Zhou led Qiao Jingjing by the hand as they stepped onto the stairs, the wooden steps creaking softly. Qiao Jingjing's fingertips traced the path, a warmth spreading through her heart, and her steps unconsciously slowed.
Pushing open the carved wooden door at the top floor, a wave of warmth washes over you.
The room was elegantly furnished, with a low couch in the center covered with a snow-white fox fur, and light gauze curtains hanging from the four corners, swaying gently in the breeze.
Beside the couch was a small sandalwood table with a glass lamp on it. The lamp wick burned with a faint, calming incense, and the smoke curled up like mist and gauze in the candlelight.
The most eye-catching feature is the dome, which is made entirely of crystal. Looking up, the starry sky seems almost within reach.
"Do you like it?" Tantai Zhou wrapped his arms around her waist from behind, his chin resting gently on her shoulder.
Qiao Jingjing looked up at the starry sky, her eyes reflecting the dappled light: "When did you build it?"
“Last year,” he said softly, “you said the stars in the Qilian Mountains were brighter than those in Beijing, so I thought I’d make sure you got your fill.”
Her heart skipped a beat, and she turned to look into his eyes: "So tonight..."
“Tonight, we’ll do more than just look at the stars.” His voice was slightly hoarse as he gently brushed the stray hairs at her temples with his fingertips.
The soft glow of the glass lamp made the gold thread on Qiao Jingjing's wedding dress shimmer. Tantai Zhou raised his hand, his fingertips gently tracing the floral design between her brows, and whispered, "You look...beautiful today."
Qiao Jingjing's ears burned slightly, but she refused to back down, tapping his chest with her fingertip: "You...are quite good at coaxing people today too."
He chuckled softly, took her hand, and gently pulled her into his arms.
The fox fur was soft, and as she sank into it, the gold hairpin in her hair swayed gently, the pearls clinking together and making a crisp sound.
Tantai Zhou reached out and took it off for her. Her black hair cascaded down like a waterfall, spreading across the snow-white fox fur coat, the contrast between black and white creating a particularly enchanting scene.
Qiao Jingjing's hair was scattered on the pillow, and her pearl necklace had slipped off at some point. The lustrous beads rolled into the depths of the brocade quilt, like a string of lost stars.
Tantai Zhou's kisses traveled down her neck, but stopped abruptly when they touched her collarbone. He picked up the ribbon still tied between their wrists with his fingertips and gently tugged it.
"The Knot of Love..." he chuckled softly, "It seems you won't escape it in the next life either."
Qiao Jingjing's eyes were brimming with tears. She reached out and touched his cheek, her fingertips tracing his sharp brow bone, and whispered, "And what about this lifetime?"
Tantai Zhou took her hand and pressed it against his heart, letting her feel its rapid and powerful beating.
"You've been mine for a lifetime."
Before he finished speaking, he kissed her again, this time more passionately and tenderly than before.
"Husband..." Qiao Jingjing's voice was incredibly soft.
They had just gotten a chance to catch their breath when it was immediately blocked again.
"There's no one here, my Jingjing, you can relax."
The bed curtains swayed gently, the candlelight flickered, and the fragrance of dried flowers from the sachet wafted through the air, mingling with each other's scents to create the most intoxicating tenderness.
The wind outside the window grew stronger, and the gold embroidery on the bed curtains rippled like water in the candlelight, making the intertwined figures of the two appear even more intimate.
I don’t know how long it took, but everything returned to calm.
Exhausted, Qiao Jingjing nestled in Tantai Zhou's arms and fell into a deep sleep. Tantai Zhou gazed at her peaceful sleeping face, his eyes filled with tenderness and affection. He gently tucked the blanket around her, pulling her closer, and then placed a kiss on her forehead.
The mountain night was quiet and cold, but inside the house it was warm as spring. The candlelight gradually dimmed and finally went out, and darkness enveloped the entire room. Tantai Zhou held Qiao Jingjing in his arms, feeling her even breathing, and his heart was filled with peace.
The next morning, sunlight streamed through the crystal dome onto the bed. Qiao Jingjing slowly woke up, and the first thing she saw was Tantai Zhou's handsome face, which was very close to hers.
Her cheeks flushed as she recalled the events of the previous night, feeling both shy and delighted.
His eyes were closed, his long eyelashes casting shadows beneath them. His nose was high and straight, his lips slightly pursed. His sleeping face was serene, yet still carried a hint of unapproachable sternness.
She couldn't help but reach out and gently touch his brow bone with her fingertips.
Tantai Zhou suddenly opened his eyes, his gaze reflecting the morning light, so deep it was breathtaking.
"Peeping?" His voice was low and hoarse, still carrying the lingering sleepiness.
Qiao Jingjing paused, then declared matter-of-factly, "Why can't my husband see?"
He chuckled softly, rolled over and pulled her beneath him, his fingertips gently tracing the corner of her lips: "Then look all you want."
She couldn't help but smile, gently poking his cheek: "Tantai Zhou, it's dawn."
