Upon hearing this, Huang jumped up and down, "You brat, who are you calling ugly! Is this how your elder brother and sister-in-law raised you? You ill-mannered thing! No wonder you used to be an idiot. If it weren't for me, Er Ya, you would still be an idiot, and I've never seen you thank us."

"Well done, you actually came to my house and insulted my daughter in front of me, you're really something." Lin rolled up her sleeves and was about to grab her hair when Huang saw this and dodged back. Originally, when she saw Huang come, she was too lazy to pay attention to them and went into the yard to ask Qiao Wanjun to find some land to build a pigsty.

Huang, without thinking, blurted out her curses after being provoked by Qiao Jingjing. Lin heard it, and Qiao Wanjun, who was nearby, naturally heard it too. However, he was hidden from Huang's view by the courtyard wall.

He didn't intervene, letting the women handle it themselves. He'd only step in if his wife and daughter-in-law couldn't win the argument or the fight. I never imagined my second sister-in-law was this kind of person in private.

When Xiao Shiming heard his second aunt scolding his older sister, he rushed over like a cannonball. "Second aunt, my mother never taught us to swear. But how could you scold my older sister! You're a bad person!" Qiao Shiming glared angrily at Huang Shi.

With her hands on her hips, Huang pointed at Qiao Shiming's nose and scolded, "You little brat, how dare you talk to your elders like that? I'll tell your father!"

"Go ahead and sue!" Qiao Jingjing stepped forward, shielding her younger brother behind her. "Do you think I'm afraid of you?!"

Seeing that the two were about to fight, Lin quickly pulled Qiao Jingjing back. After all, she was the younger one, and if a fight broke out, even if she was in the right, she would lose her right. She wouldn't let her daughter suffer this injustice. Huang had just dodged the attack, and now, seizing the opportunity, she pounced on Qiao Jingjing, slapping her, pulling her hair, and kicking her in the stomach in quick succession. Unable to defeat Lin, Huang turned her attention to Qiao Jingjing, while Qiao Wanjun finally couldn't hold back any longer and came out from the courtyard.

"Second brother's wife, what are you doing? Let's talk this out, don't resort to violence!" Qiao Wanjun said with a serious expression.

Seeing this, Huang knew she was in the wrong, but still stubbornly retorted, "What's wrong with me disciplining a junior? Besides, didn't you see my sister-in-law hit me? Brother, aren't you just favoring your own child?"

"Me, biased?" Qiao Wanjun was so angry that his beard stood on end. "Look at what you just said! If I weren't here today, would you all have started fighting? We're all family, can't we discuss things properly?"

Huang was rendered speechless; with Qiao Wanjun around, she couldn't get away with anything today. She could only slink away with Er Ya. Everyone needs a man to back them up; time to go home! The farce finally came to an end.

On the way back, Qiao Erya said to her mother with resentment, "Mom, why does my uncle's family have so many good things, but our family doesn't? They must be hiding something from Grandpa and Grandma, maybe they've been looking forward to separating the family and living separately for a long time."

"Come on, let's tell your grandparents about this."

Qiao Jingjing didn't take it to heart; they were all insignificant people. What she cared about now was what to eat for lunch. During busy farming seasons, they would change from two meals to three, otherwise they wouldn't have the energy to work and it would delay the harvest.

Seeing the flour, she thought, why not make dumplings? There wasn't enough time to prepare the filling, but she remembered that she had some dumpling filling stored in her space. It was from a Northeastern dumpling restaurant that she particularly loved, and she had specifically bought several kinds of fillings from them before transmigrating.

Without further ado, they poured water and kneaded dough. Since the rice harvest began, Qiao Jingjing had become the cook at home. They didn't pay attention to where the dumpling filling came from, assuming it was ready-made from a restaurant.

She rolled out the dumpling wrappers, put the filling in a large bowl, and started wrapping. There were two kinds of fillings: chives and egg, and mushrooms and pork. Qiao Jingjing skillfully wrapped the dumplings, quickly filling a large plate. She put the dumplings in a pot to boil, and also prepared a dipping sauce; she liked them without soup, so she would dip them in it. The dumplings were steaming hot when they were cooked and served.

The family sat together, enjoying the delicious dumplings. Qiao Wanjun and Lin Shi praised Qiao Jingjing's cooking skills, and Qiao Shiming also ate with relish. Their quality of life had improved significantly recently, and Lin Shi was quite satisfied with their current life. As long as her husband didn't cause any trouble, they could still keep the baby and didn't have to give it up for the time being.

After eating dumplings, Qiao Jingjing decided to help in the fields. She put on a straw hat and went to work in the fields with her parents.

In the fields, Qiao Jingjing worked diligently, her clothes soaked with sweat, but she didn't care. She had originally planned to secretly use a machine to harvest, but three mu wasn't much, and three people could manage. The main problem was finding an opportunity. A threshing machine, however, was something she could try to get her hands on.

The three of them harvested 4 mu (approximately 0.2 hectares) of land in less than two hours this afternoon. Tomorrow, Lin and Qiao Wanjun can harvest one mu (approximately 0.16 acres) in a day. The day after tomorrow, they can plow the harvested mu ahead of schedule and fill it with water. The furrows they stored in their space will come in handy, but these furrows require two oxen to pull. There are only two households in the village with oxen, and it's the busy farming season, so they probably won't lend them out. They'll have to go to the county town tomorrow to check.

After finishing my work and getting home, I realized there were still quite a few dumplings left over from lunch that I hadn't cooked yet. I had to eat them quickly or they would go bad.

After dinner, Qiao Jingjing took Lin to her room and told her about giving the seedlings to Aunt Li. Lin completely agreed. Li Xianglan had taken good care of her two children and admired her character. It was only right to repay her in kind.

Qiao Jingjing then thought about the need to dry and thresh the rice after harvesting, so she told her that the great being had given her many magical treasures that could make farm work twice as efficient, but it was not advisable to take them out, for fear that someone might become greedy and cause trouble. Right now, the family has little land and not much work, so the three of them can manage. But in the future, with more land and more crops, the three of them simply won't be enough to handle all the tasks.

Mrs. Lin was at a loss for what to do. Although her husband was showing signs of improvement, it was still too early to tell him.

Neither of them could come up with a solution, so they stopped thinking about it. They'd just have to take it one step at a time. After Lin left, Qiao Jingjing went into her spatial dimension, took a shower, and put on a face mask.

Lying in bed, I pondered how to make housework more efficient. I thought of some traditional tools I'd stockpiled and, combined with the reference books I'd bought, wondered if I could recreate them.

The first thing is the threshing machine.

As far as she knew, there were no threshing machines in Daliang. The locals would typically spread rice stalks on the ground and use donkeys or oxen to pull stone rollers to thresh the rice. After threshing, they would then thresh any remaining stalks by the handful, ensuring everything was threshed and no grains were wasted. This process was time-consuming, labor-intensive, and inefficient, and it was easy to miss some grains.

A threshing machine is used to separate the grains from the stalks of crops. Its structure is relatively simple, usually consisting of a wooden or metal frame, a rotating threshing drum, a feed inlet, and a discharge outlet.

In operation, crop stalks are fed into the thresher through the inlet, and the drum rotates under human or animal power. The protrusions or racks on the drum interact with the stalks, causing the grains to detach from the stalks and be discharged through the bottom or side of the thresher.

Therefore, the traditional threshing machine is not difficult to make. The drum, feed inlet and outlet, transmission device, screening device and base can be made of wood. Only the frame needs to be supported by metal and wood.

She found the pictures and internal structure diagrams, and copied them onto rice paper using a printer, but she really couldn't draw them well. She'll go to the county tomorrow to find a carpenter to take a look.
