The Rebirth of Bai Qi: The Way of Qi

Chapter 1 The Corpse Rises from the Tomb

Bai Qi slowly opened his eyes, only to find everything pitch black. He was startled, as if he were still trapped in that eternal abyss, like a nightmare.

The silence around him made him feel extremely uneasy, and the cold wind from an unknown direction wandered around him like a ghost.

He moved his fingers slightly and realized that the heavy sense of oppression around him seemed to come from the depths of hell.

Gradually, he realized that he was lying in a dark, cramped coffin.

The tearing pain in his chest reminded him of the moment his consciousness had vanished just moments before—the humiliating moment when he was forced to commit suicide.

Suddenly, a silvery-white light pierced the darkness, shining through the crack, as if it were a summons from the depths of the universe.

Bai Qi held his breath slightly, stretched out his arms with all his might, and touched the decaying wood grain of the coffin lid.

With a muffled thud, the decaying coffin was pushed open, and the incoming soil was cold and damp, carrying a strong earthy smell.

After a lot of effort, he finally crawled out of the tomb and fell to the ground, completely exhausted.

He lay in the low grass, gazing up at the starry sky, his mind a jumble, as if the fate he had been toying with by the gods was being revived.

He was panting heavily as he gazed at the night sky, where a bright, clear moon hung high in the horizon.

Bai Qi felt an unprecedented vitality spreading from the bottom of his heart, as if he had been reborn from the underworld, but the world seemed to have undergone earth-shattering changes.

After calming himself down, he slowly sat up and straightened his disheveled clothes.

The battles and fights in my memory are like fleeting clouds, yet every detail feels like I experienced them firsthand.

He touched his cheek with his palm and found that the thin, withered hand was completely different from the image of himself in his memory.

Not far ahead, a tranquil pond reflected a strange and pale face—clearly a young man, different from his own faith, calmly returning to the world.

Although the body was young, it appeared somewhat thin and frail, quite different from the awe-inspiring war god on the battlefield yesterday.

Bai Qi pondered to himself how to make this body stronger to face future challenges and destiny.

He sat cross-legged, trying to adjust his internal energy from this newborn body, but found that the acupoints in his body were blocked, and his energy was like a bull entering an abyss, without any echo.

Left with no other choice, I had to stretch my muscles and bones for the time being and gradually get used to this long-unused body.

Suddenly, a gentle breeze brought the sounds of the riverbank. Bai Qi, with his keen ears, looked up and gazed at the riverside, only then realizing that the area was picturesque with green mountains and clear waters, lush bamboo groves, and verdant forests.

Birds and insects chirped all around, and wisps of smoke seemed to drift in the distance, with the faint scent of human habitation wafting through the air.

He was startled, instinctively feeling that this was a secluded paradise.

Bai Qi got up, sorted out his thoughts, and followed the sound of the flowing water to explore the depths of the distant mountains and forests.

In the shadows of the dense forest, he sensed something unusual about his surroundings, as if some hermits were living in seclusion and practicing asceticism in the mountains.

He followed the winding path and unknowingly reached a high point. Looking out, he saw continuous mountains and a babbling brook flowing through the valley, forming a small village nestled in the valley.

Standing atop the mountain, he gazed at the village nestled among the surrounding peaks, a thought stirring within him.

This sense of dislocation in time and space, like a dreamlike illusion, left him feeling dazed.

My eyes searched for familiar people and places in my memory, but I couldn't connect the lush greenery in front of me with the land I had been in the past.

It's as if this moment of renewed life is a clean white sheet of silk, waiting for a new history to unfold.

As the night breeze began to rise, the air was filled with the fresh scent of pine and the aroma of earth.

In this strange yet familiar new world, Bai Qi pondered the reason for his rebirth while secretly resolving to unravel the mystery.

Memories of the days leading up to his execution flooded back, filling him with endless resentment towards the powerful minister who had murdered him.

Even with a thousand kinds of grief and anger, nothing can compare to the survival instinct in this very moment.

He reminded himself that he needed to be patient and learn to adapt flexibly in order to get used to this unfamiliar body and world.

He strolled through the woods, his thoughts slowly settling. Suddenly, he faintly heard hurried footsteps behind him. Bai Qi turned around alertly and saw a figure emerge from the dense shadows of the trees.

He was a young man dressed simply, slender and handsome, with a face full of anxiety, and an ancient longsword hanging at his waist, as if he were a visitor from another place.

Seeing Bai Qi standing in front of him, he seemed to want to say something but hesitated.

Bai Qi smiled slightly, indicating that it was alright: "May I ask, sir, where is this place?"

The young man still looked worried, but respectfully replied, "This is a small village outside the mountains, called Wangchuan. May I ask why you have come to this place?"

"I meant no offense, I just got lost and wandered in by mistake. Do you know if there is a place for me to stay?" Bai Qi asked casually.

The young man hesitated slightly, but sensed an indescribable trust in Bai Qi's unintentional demeanor. He then nodded slightly: "Although the mountains are secluded, wandering knights and merchants often pass through. There are inns in the village where you can rest for a while. If you don't mind, please come with me."

Bai Qi smiled gratefully and followed the young man down the mountain. His steps were light, but he remained vigilant about the customs and manners of this era.

Although he is full of curiosity about everything, he should always be on guard and be wary of undercurrents.

The young man led him through a winding path, the valley growing ever deeper and the sound of the water ever clearer, as if echoing from ancient times.

Before long, the view ahead opened up, and Bai Qi had already stepped into the village. He saw that the blue stone and tile houses were scattered in an orderly manner, and smoke was rising from the chimneys of several farmhouses in the twilight. In the distance, several yellow cattle were leisurely grazing on the hillside.

As the villagers came and went, although they were surprised by Bai Qi's unfamiliar face, they did not ask too many questions. It turned out that the village had always been hospitable and had maintained good relations with people from outside the mountains for many years.

Bai Qi followed the young man into a simple inn. The inn was neatly furnished, and several ancestral statues were worshipped on the table.

The shop owner, a kind old woman, was busy preparing a simple meal. Seeing the young man bring a guest, she quickly led Bai Qi to a seat and said with a smile, "This guest must be very hungry after such a long journey. Please sit down and rest. We just picked some fresh wild vegetables on the mountain today, so I'll make you a wild vegetable soup to help you relax."

Bai Qi nodded slightly, responding with a grateful look, and sat down with composure despite being very hungry.

Before long, the food was served; though simple, it was very flavorful. Bai Qi slowly savored it, gradually gaining a basic understanding of life in the mountains.

He looked around and found several rusty old weapons hanging on the wall in a corner of the post station. Although they had been through many storms, they still faintly showed the shadow of the battles of yesteryear.

This also made him more curious about the past of the post station.

After dinner, Bai Qi learned during a brief exchange of pleasantries that the young man who had led the way was named Zhang Xing and was a hunter from the village.

Zhang Xing was a straightforward person, and although he was not talkative, he was quick-witted. Bai Qi secretly pondered that there must be many hidden forces and grudges behind this place where great events were happening.

As the night grew late and a slight chill set in, Bai Qi composed himself and was led into the room to rest.

Before going to sleep, he once again focused intently on regulating his internal energy and feeling the flow of blood in his body.

The chirping of insects rose and fell in his ears, like the ceaseless murmur of time, evoking distant memories of past battles.

Although this place is located deep in the mountains and forests, it is inevitably involved in the conflicts of the outside world.

However, he is now merely a reborn being, yearning to rise amidst the changing times and write his own legend on this land once again.

After pondering for a long time, he gradually calmed down, closed his eyes to rest, and hoped that he could explore this unfamiliar world again at dawn.

This picturesque village may be a brand new beginning and challenge for him after his rebirth.

He couldn't know what opportunities or threats were hidden behind this village; the only certainty was that he seemed to have found a subtle sense of belonging here.

Bai Qi slept peacefully that night. In the old, dilapidated house, the moonlight quietly shone through the window onto him.

The following morning, at the boundary between light and darkness, he would officially begin this new life shrouded in mystery.
