The Walking Dead: I Sell Arms as a Sixth-Rate Seller in the Apocalypse

Chapter 68 Herschel and his gang escape danger, Tompney's plan

9:00 AM

Atlanta Police Department

Like a madman, Thompney stood on the high place and roared at the people below.

"Gentlemen, the police station's armory has been ransacked. We're out of guns and ammunition. Except for those who still have firearms or are out on duty, there isn't a single gun left in the station. If the enemy attacks, we're all doomed."

Hearing what Tom Penny said from above, the audience looked at each other in bewilderment, and some people began to whisper among themselves.

"Quiet down, everyone. From now on, anyone still carrying a firearm, come to my office after the event. I have something to say. Dismissed."

After finishing his sentence, Tompney walked toward his office on his own.

Those armed with guns then went to Tompney's office.

in the office

Tompenny sat in his chair facing the group that had followed him. He noticed that everyone had a different weapon; some had pistols, some had assault rifles, and only the people who came down from the watchtower had bolt-action sniper rifles.

Seeing that most of the people had arrived, Tompney coughed twice and began his speech.

"Ahem, gentlemen, the theft of our armory is very strange, but I have a task for you. Once it's done, we can leave this damned ghost town."

Upon hearing that they could leave this ghost town, everyone's eyes lit up, and they continued to stare at Tompney.

Seeing that the effect was about right, Thompney continued his speech.

"I'm sure you all remember the nuclear war shelter below our police station. Dr. Liz has now transformed it into a bio-lab, specifically for researching ideas on controlling zombies."

"However, a small mishap occurred during this time. Dr. Liz and everything that could control the zombies were left in the laboratory downstairs, and I have just reached a cooperation agreement with Colonel Dross, one of the heads of the military research institute."

"As long as we get into the bio-lab and bring Dr. Liz and that thing out, guys, we can move to the military research institute and stop worrying about the zombie hordes in the city eating us all day long."

Having finished speaking

The people below began to look at each other in bewilderment. They all knew about the underground biochemical laboratory. If it weren't for the error in the experiment that resulted in the birth of a lord-level zombie that was enormous, incredibly strong, and able to command some of the zombies, they wouldn't have closed the nuclear explosion-proof gate of the underground biochemical research institute.

Among the crowd were guards stationed outside the door. Every day, they could hear the sound of the lord-level zombie smashing the nuclear-proof door. Whenever they recalled the huge, muffled sound coming from behind the door, their bodies would tremble uncontrollably.

"Boss, are we really going to go in through the main gate? That huge monster keeps banging on the door every day; I suspect it's guarding it there."

"Yeah, boss, that monster isn't afraid of ordinary bullets. Even the .50 BMG bullets Jerry fired with his BFG-50A anti-materiel sniper rifle couldn't kill it. If we go, we're just sending ourselves to our deaths."

Listening to his subordinates' words, Tompney nodded, then continued...

"Don't panic, everyone. I've already spoken to Colonel Dross about this. He said he'll be providing us with a batch of heavy weapons, and military trucks will be arriving soon. The colonel's idea is for us to lure that zombie to the surface, and he'll support us with tanks and infantry fighting vehicles."

Hearing this, the crowd below calmed down. Among them were SWAT members who had fought the monster. They knew that although the monster could command some zombies, the number it could command was very small. Moreover, the zombie was huge and moved very clumsily. Apart from charging at the enemies in front of it, its movement speed was slower than that of an ordinary zombie that could jog.

Once the discussion below was nearly over, Thompney began to assign combat missions.

In a small alley 1.5 kilometers from the police station.

Suddenly a manhole cover came loose, and a moment later it was pushed aside by an elderly, fat man with white hair.

This man was Herschel, the father of Maggie and Beth.

With Herschel's guidance, the group finally emerged from the sewers within an hour.

After the three of them had all exited the sewer, Rick asked Maggie and Beth...

"Maggie, Beth, where did your rings go?"

Seeing this, Beth didn't dare look Rick in the eye; only Maggie watched Rick return to the path.

“Our rings were taken by that bastard Chief Tomney. He’s a money-grubber. When he saw the rings on our hands, he ordered his men to forcibly take them off and put them in his pocket.”

"Damn it! That damn Tompney, even in the apocalypse he's still collecting this kind of stuff, what a greedy bastard."

Hershel asked upon hearing this

"What ring? What's going on? Maggie and Beth, what's going on?"

Rick winked at the two women, and Maggie spoke first.

“Dad, this is the wedding ring Rick gave to Beth and me. He went to great lengths to get it, and it means a lot to Beth and me.”

"Yes, Dad, this ring symbolizes the story of that night and the love between the three of us. Even Mieko has one."

Hershel thought about it for a moment, and soon believed what the two women said.

During his two years in prison, Hershel heard his two daughters talk about Rick quite often, especially Beth, who told him about Rick's brave battle against hundreds of zombies that night. At that time, Hershel didn't believe Beth's reckless little daughter's words at all.

Hershel only believed it when Maggie stood up to testify for Beth, because Maggie had never lied to Hershel, and he had always believed his eldest daughter's words.

When Hershel heard her two daughters say that Rick was a leader in a camp with dozens of survivors under his command, and that he had killed thousands of zombies that night without being injured himself.

This made Hershel even more interested in Rick. He wanted to meet this man who had his two daughters share him and see if he was as amazing as they had described. When he saw Rick with his own eyes, he didn't find Rick as incredible as his daughters had said. It wasn't until he saw Rick conjure three shotguns and hundreds of shotgun shells out of thin air in the sewers that his opinion of Rick changed again.

Rick said to the three of them

"I'm going back now. Mieko is waiting for me at her upscale apartment not far away. You three take this and find a safe place to wait for me. Contact me with this if there's any emergency. Remember, don't get into any conflicts with people rashly, and avoid strangers if you can. Understand?"

Hershel didn't say anything. Maggie and Beth came up and each kissed Rick on the cheek. After the three of them hugged and kissed each other for a while, Rick went back into the sewer and ran towards the police station.

45 minutes later

Rick returned to the police station's laundry room.

Levin was no longer in the laundry room, and the door to the laundry room had long been violently destroyed.

Seeing the scene before him, Rick realized that Levin was in trouble.

He conjured a BFG-50A anti-materiel sniper rifle from his personal space and ran quickly toward the armory.

Just as he arrived at the armory entrance, he saw a fat white man in a police uniform being brutally beaten to the ground by a white man also in a police uniform.

Just as Rick was about to push his way through the crowd, he was pulled aside by a Spaniard in a police uniform. This man was Francis, the prison guard.

He led Riker to a secluded spot and asked him...

"Where did you take those three people?"

"I let him go."

"What?! How dare you?"

"I let it go, so what?"

"Do you even realize how badly you've hurt Levin? He's getting beaten up by Tompney right now!"

"Huh? The one on the ground is Levin? And the perpetrator is Tompney?"

"Nonsense, haven't you seen Tompney before?"

"I'm new here. Besides you and Levin, the only other person left is Johnny at the door."

"Oh my God, Levin really made a bad choice in friends."

"So, what exactly is going on over there?"

"Right after you and Levin took the father and his two daughters away, the armory was robbed. It was completely emptied out; there wasn't even a single bullet casing left in the room."

Upon hearing this, Rick pretended to be shocked and acted dumbfounded towards Francis.

"Huh? No way, I only used my kung fu to release one person, and this is the result?"

"This happened strangely, but I hope you will step forward and help with the writing."

"Huh? Why do you need my help? Don't you two have a really bad relationship?"

“His brother Marvin saved me once, although his brother is missing. I, Francis, am not the kind of beast like Tompney who would betray his colleagues for personal gain, but seeing him beat Levin up, I decided to help him this time. If you are willing to help me, I will tell you a secret afterward.”

"Oh? Then give me a hint first, and I'll see if I'm interested."

Rick isn't some busybody; he doesn't have the habit of meddling in other people's business. If you want him to get involved, you'll have to offer something that satisfies him, otherwise he won't bother with it.

Seeing that Rick had relented, Francis continued...

"Although I don't know if this counts, it's the only thing I know right now."

"Alright, stop keeping me in suspense and just tell me, what is it?"

"I know where Tompney secretly buried his treasure."

Rick immediately became interested upon hearing this. If it was treasures like paper money and gold, wouldn't that be the source of his points?

Thinking of this, Rick nodded, signaling Francis to continue.

"Thompney has a secret door behind his office, and inside that door is a secret room where he stores all sorts of gold and silver jewelry that he has collected, and I heard there are also some military-grade weapons that are not in the armory."

Hearing this, Rick nodded.

"Then, how do you open the hidden door?"

"So, do you agree to help me with this?"

Rick nodded and said

"Buddy, deal!"

The two then walked into the crowd.
