The Walking Dead: I Sell Arms as a Sixth-Rate Seller in the Apocalypse
Chapter 39: The Crimson Full Moon - Rick Meets Maggie and Two Others
3 a.m.
Blood-red full moon
The Spike Motel is located 5 km from the entrance to Atlanta's East Side.
Rick sat on the second-floor rooftop watching the four-door pickup truck drive up in front of him.
However, Maggie, driving her four-door pickup truck, did not notice the sixth man who was spying on her from the roof of the motel. She slowly drove the car into the motel.
Rick lay prone on the roof, peering through the edge at the slowly coming to a stop four-door pickup truck. He didn't like being disturbed while he was resting, especially by someone driving in so brazenly, completely disregarding him. This infuriated Rick. He held up his tactical crossbow, intently aiming at the sudden intruder.
Just then, Maggie, who was in the car, was about to get off when Mieko, in the back seat, suddenly pulled Maggie and said, "Sister Maggie, don't get off yet. Let me go down and scout ahead. If there's any danger, I can protect myself. You don't have any weapons, so don't take the risk."
Beth chimed in, "Sister, just trust Mieko. She's capable of protecting herself."
Maggie thought for a moment and said, "Okay, Mieko, be careful. If you encounter any danger, be sure to shout, and I'll drive you away."
Mieko nodded and said, "Okay, then I'll have to trouble Maggie-neechan then."
Having finished speaking
Mieko got off the four-door pickup truck with the demon sword, the first generation Kitetsu. Rick noticed this scene and saw a bright black-haired girl wearing a white Japanese school uniform and holding a black samurai sword walk out of the four-door pickup truck.
Rick was instantly captivated by the girl's appearance. He had never seen a girl who looked exactly like him. The moment Rick saw her, he made up his mind that she had to become his wife, and he would never let her be killed by zombies or thugs in this apocalypse.
Thinking of this, Rick impatiently flipped down from the second-floor roof and returned to the second-floor corridor.
At this moment, Mieko didn't notice the commotion from earlier. She placed her hand on the hilt of her demon sword, the First Generation Kitetsu, and slowly walked towards the second floor. As she reached the corner of the stairs, a man who had been lying in ambush there suddenly attacked. The girl noticed him the instant he moved, but before she could draw the sword, the man seemed to teleport, appearing before her in an instant. His left hand slashed down at her neck. Instantly, she felt a terrifying force on her neck, and she fell to the ground. Just before she hit the ground, Rick caught her. Seeing her beautiful eyes under the blood-red moon and her face that matched his expectations, Rick couldn't resist the urge to take her right there and then. But now was not the time for that. He picked her up and carried her to a clean guest room, then placed her on the bed and carefully covered her with a blanket.
After Rick settled the girl down, he saw her katana and picked it up. Just then, the system's voice rang out.
[Ding! Detected that the host has obtained the item "Demon Sword: First Generation Kitetsu (Upgradeable)". Would you like to register it immediately?]
After seeing the system's prompt, Rick asked, "System, system, what is this Demon Sword - First Generation Kitetsu (can be upgraded)?"
[Ding! Reply to host, this weapon is a mystical weapon. This demon sword can evolve into the Demon Sword: First Generation Oni-Giri after slaying a certain number of enemies. The evolved Demon Sword: First Generation Oni-Giri can unleash an invisible sword aura when slashing enemies. This weapon belongs to the same level and type as the High-Frequency Murasame in Escape from Kentucky.]
Upon hearing this, Rick said to the system without thinking, "System, system, enter the demon sword, First Generation Onikiri."
[Ding! Congratulations, host! The "Demon Sword: First Generation Onikiri" has been successfully registered. You can spend 1000 points to upgrade this sword to the Demon Sword: First Generation Onikiri.]
Rick saw that he had reached 1400 points and was about to use his points to advance, but then he remembered that he still needed to unlock a weapon to escape Kentucky. Otherwise, a knife alone wouldn't solve anything and would just be a waste of points.
Ultimately, reason prevailed over desire. Rick did not choose to advance, but instead spent 300 points to exchange for a brand new demon sword, the First Generation Kitetsu, from the system shop. He placed it on the chair next to the girl, then walked out of the guest room and went to the second-floor corridor.
Rick climbed back onto the edge of the second-floor roof and continued to lie in the same spot, observing the four pickup trucks below.
fifteen minutes later
4-door pickup truck interior
Maggie and Beth had been waiting in the car for almost twenty minutes for Mieko. Beth anxiously asked Maggie, "Sister, Mieko has been inside for almost twenty minutes. There's still no sign of her. Is she in danger?"
At this time, Maggie was just like Beth. Since disappearing with her father Herschel, Maggie and Beth had regarded Mieko as their own blood family. On the way, the three of them talked a lot, including sharing some of their little secrets.
In this apocalyptic environment, the three cherish each other very much, especially since Mieko had saved their family before, which made their feelings for Mieko even deeper. However, when the two learned that Mieko had not come out for a long time, a terrifying and uneasy feeling surged into their hearts.
Maggie finally couldn't help but speak first: "Beth, we can't just wait passively like Dad did. We can't lose Mieko again, so I'm planning to go save her. What about you? Do you want to come with me?"
At this moment, Maggie knew very well that she alone could not save Mieko, especially since she was unarmed and her sister Beth was also a weak woman with no power to kill a chicken.
Maggie and Beth nodded to each other, confirming their decision to proceed. Maggie then opened the car door, and the two of them slowly got out.
Rick, who was lying on the roof of the motel, naturally saw the two getting out of the car.
Maggie and Beth crept close to the four pickup truck doors and peered toward the motel. However, their vision was obscured by the blood-red moon and the pitch-black surroundings, and they couldn't spot Rick hiding on the second-floor roof. But Rick, aided by the system Hua Zi and Blue Coffee Candy, had already seen their faces. Rick didn't rush to knock them out; he was thinking about how to convince them that he wasn't a bad guy and that they would be willing to follow him.
Just as Rick was pondering this, a group of zombies appeared on the road not far from the motel. Clearly, these zombies had followed Maggie's car there.
Rick materialized Beowulf from his personal space and immediately activated the zombie radar. When Rick saw that there were more than 100 zombies on the road, he knew that he couldn't think about these things now. What he needed to do now was not only to complete the tasks issued by the system, but also to protect his future capable assistants from being eaten by zombies.
With things having come to this point, Rick didn't hesitate any longer. He climbed off the roof and went up to the second floor. At this time, Maggie and Beth hadn't yet noticed the zombies approaching them from behind. The two of them were still observing the motel from beside the car.
Upon seeing this, Rick immediately ran from the second floor to the first floor. The two of them were immediately startled to see a man in an army combat uniform standing in front of them, holding an assault rifle they had never seen before. Maggie and Beth were both taken aback by Rick's sudden appearance.
Without giving the two time to think, Kerik said directly to them, "I'm a soldier, there's no time to explain. You two come with me now, there are hundreds of zombies rushing towards us from behind."
Upon hearing Rick's words, Maggie and Beth's minds went blank. Before they could even ask who the man in front of them was, he told them that there were hundreds of zombies rushing towards them.
Just as the two were stunned, a low growl of zombies came from behind them. Pairs of scarlet, bloodthirsty eyes appeared not far behind them. When Maggie and Beth turned around and saw this scene, Beth's legs went weak and she sat down on the ground in fright, while Maggie stood there with her legs trembling.
Seeing the cowardly appearance of the two women in front of him, Rick found it hard to believe that Maggie would become a second female warrior, no weaker than Carol, and one of the female warriors with a leader's aura.
Rick sighed, slung the Beowulf assault rifle over his back, picked up one in each hand, and quickly led the two to a room not far from Mieko's room on the second floor.
Rick put the two, who were still in shock, down and said to them, "You two stay here and don't come out, no matter what happens, understand?"
Maggie, staring blankly at Rick, who had an Asian face, asked, "Excuse me, have you seen a..."
Before Maggie could finish her question, Rick had already left the guest room and gone to the second-floor corridor.
He knew what Maggie was going to ask, but now was not the time for him to answer.
The zombies had already climbed up to the second floor and were approaching. Seeing them so close, Rick didn't hesitate. He took out the Beowulf assault rifle from his back and gripped it tightly. Using the Nightcrawler's night vision scope, Rick quickly locked onto the nearest zombie. Without hesitation, he pulled the trigger. With a loud bang, a .50 Beowulf armor-piercing round tore through the air, instantly penetrating the zombie's skull. In an instant, the zombie's head exploded into a brilliant cloud of blood mist. The bullet that pierced the first zombie's head didn't stop there; it pierced the heads of a second and a third zombie. In that instant, three zombie heads, under the immense penetrating force of the .50 Beowulf armor-piercing round, turned into three clouds of blood mist.
The immense recoil and the deafening gunshot caused Rick to lose his balance and stumble backward a step.
Rick remarked that it was indeed one of the customized guns for a certain wealthy client, and those 700 points were well spent.
