The Walking Dead: I Sell Arms as a Sixth-Rate Seller in the Apocalypse

Chapter 236 Tara and Elizabeth's First Encounter with a New Type of Special Zombie!

17:29 p.m.

Inside the Dawn of Light Organization Research Institute in Dallas, Texas.

"Bang bang bang—"

"Bang bang bang—"

"Tara, run! 5.56mm bullets won't do anything to them!"

Elizabeth shouted to Tara as she fired her double-bayonet M4A1 assault rifle at the special infected creatures pouring out from the third basement level.

"Bang bang bang—"

"Their skulls are extremely hard; you can't break through them at all."

Tara, holding an AR15 assault rifle with a bayonet, shouted at Elizabeth, who was climbing the stairs. However, several zombies with hard chitinous shells on their heads continued to charge forward even after being hit in the head by Tara's bullet. Their movement speed was slightly faster than that of ordinary zombies, but far slower than that of berserk zombies.

These zombies were completely naked, their bodies covered in thick, bluish muscles. Their hands were like claws, capable of easily tearing apart human survivors wearing bulletproof vests and armor. Moreover, except for their two exposed eyes, the rest of their heads were covered by chitinous carapaces, making them impervious to small-caliber weapons.

Elizabeth and Tara discovered through experimentation that only bullets or sharp objects could penetrate their brains and kill them; otherwise, only large-caliber armor-piercing weapons could break through the chitinous carapaces on these monsters.

However, this is simply impossible to do in combat. These monsters are not like ordinary zombies, who are just useless creatures driven by instinct. They can use the environment to change their tactics in order to better hunt their prey.

If one of them is alone and encounters a group of humans, it will choose to run away without hesitation. But if it encounters only one or two humans, it will rush at them without hesitation. For it, its claws are much more useful than the row of teeth in its mouth. Even if humans are armed with large-caliber weapons, as long as they cannot damage its brain, it will rely on eating and hunting to quickly heal itself.

However, Tara and Elizabeth were unaware that they were being hunted by this special type of zombie. When these zombies charged, if they sensed bullets being fired at them, they would cover their eyes with their two claws and rely on their sense of smell and hearing to charge until they pounced on their target. Only then would they release their claws covering their eyes and dismember their prey.

However, when Elizabeth and Tara found the zombies in a room containing nine petri dishes on the third basement level, the explosion occurred, instantly waking the special type of zombies submerged in the petri dishes. The zombies frantically used their claws to destroy the petri dishes, quickly breaking through the tempered glass covers and rushing towards Tara and Elizabeth. If Elizabeth hadn't been quick-witted and thrown a flashbang to temporarily blind them, the two would probably have already become their victims.

"Tara, get down!"

Upon hearing Elizabeth's words, Tara immediately lay down, while Elizabeth pulled out the metal ring of the M67 fragmentation grenade in her hand and threw it into the location of the special type of zombies.

"Boom—"

The sound of an explosion came from the corridor, and the air was filled with the smell of smoke, gunpowder, and blood.

Tara stood up, looked back at the smoke-filled corridor, and grumbled at what lay ahead.

"Were they successfully killed?"

"I don't know, but don't go there yet!"

Elizabeth reminded Tara, while she herself took out another M67 fragmentation grenade and held it in her hand, ready to throw it at any moment.

"Awoooooo—"

A terrifying roar came from the corridor.

Upon seeing this, Elizabeth immediately shouted at Tara.

"Oh no, they're not dead yet! Tara, run!"

As soon as the words were spoken, a special type of zombie, its left arm blown off and covered in blood, stretched out its only remaining right arm and roared as it lunged at Tara.

In that critical moment, Tara instinctively thrust the bayonet of her AR15 assault rifle forward.

"Puff——"

Tara thrust the bayonet of her AR15 assault rifle into the zombie's mouth, piercing its palate and completely destroying its brain.

"Tara! Get out of there!"

Suddenly, three more special-type zombies rushed out and were about to reach Tara. Elizabeth made a quick decision and threw the M67 fragmentation grenade in her hand at her.

"Tara, catch it!"

Tara turned around and immediately caught the M67 fragmentation grenade that Elizabeth threw at her. Then she pulled the pin and threw the M67 fragmentation grenade directly at the special type zombie charging at the front.

The throw was incredibly precise, sending the grenade straight into the mouth of the special type of zombie. Upon seeing this, Tara immediately pulled the bayonet from the mouth of the zombie she had stabbed, which had caused brain death, and then collapsed to the ground.

"Boom—"

Another loud bang rang out, along with the sounds of bickering, and splashes of dark red blood and yellowish-white brain matter, as well as chunks of flesh and bone fragments, all splattered around.

The entire stairwell entrance and corridor on the third basement level were stained black and red.

"Huff huff huff, Tara, are you alright?"

Elizabeth shouted down.

"Thank goodness, this thing is really heavy!"

Tara forcefully pushed away the zombie body that had its head pierced by her AR15 assault rifle bayonet, which was pressing down on her.

Seeing that Tara was safe and sound, Elizabeth breathed a sigh of relief and continued speaking to her.

"Tara, we can't stay here any longer. We need to leave quickly."

Upon hearing this, Tara immediately climbed the stairs to Elizabeth's location. Looking down at the messy corridor below, Tara asked Elizabeth in confusion.

"Why did we come to this godforsaken place? Arona and Rock died here, and where did Beckett fly off to? Why did he leave us here and go?"

Hearing this, Elizabeth felt helpless, but she knew that all of this was due to her misjudgment, which led to the current tragic situation.

“I’m sorry, Tara, I can’t tell you. This involves the secrets of the CRM Citizen Republican Army. We’re here to get that thing, and it’s in this biological research institute.”

Upon hearing this, Tara glared angrily at Elizabeth and then retorted.

"Because of your setting, we lost two team members for no reason. They were living, breathing people, not disposable commodities!"

“I know that Alona’s death has saddened you, Tara, but I have no choice. I must obtain that thing and leave here to ensure that Omaha City is not destroyed by the CRM. The existence of this thing is of extremely important value to the entire Republican Army. If I cannot bring it back to Omaha City, then it will not be long before the Republican Army’s high command takes action against Omaha City. At that time, it will not be just Rock and Alona who die.”

Upon hearing this, Tara fell silent. Although she didn't know what that thing was, Elizabeth spoke with such sincerity that its existence must be extremely important.

Having figured this out, Tara took out a blue coffee candy from her ring space and put it in her mouth. Then, without hesitation, she rushed back into the corridor on the third basement level.

After the explosion, the remaining special-type zombies were also killed. Even so, Tara did not let her guard down. Holding an AR15 assault rifle with a bayonet, she carefully searched every room.

Finally, she found the power distribution room in the innermost room, but when she entered, she was dumbfounded by the terrible scene before her.

The generator was completely destroyed, and even a master repairman couldn't fix it.

"Bang---"

"Damn it, why am I so unlucky?"

In a fit of rage, Tara slammed her fist into the damaged generator, smashing a charred circuit board in two.

A moment later, Elizabeth also came in. When she saw the generator that was destroyed beyond recognition, she lost her balance and leaned against the wall. She looked like she had lost her soul and muttered to herself.

"It's over, it's over, Omaha is doomed. If we don't extract the experimental data from the computer, they will tell Bill and Richard everything about where I am in Omaha. Then I and the entire city of Omaha will be worthless."

Hearing this, Tara was somewhat puzzled, but she still assured Elizabeth.

"There must be backup generators; there can't be only one!"

Hearing Tara's words, Elizabeth cheered up and said...

"Tara, you're right. Quickly check if there are any spare generators left."

ten minutes later.

The two finally found a perfectly intact generator in another electrical substation and started it.

A moment later, all the lights in the entire research institute were turned on again.

Tara and Elizabeth hugged each other and cheered happily.

"We did it! Lieutenant Colonel Elizabeth!"

"Yes, we did it, Tara! We did it! Omaha is saved!"

Just as the two were excitedly shouting, George's terrified voice came through the tactical walkie-talkies on their waists.

"Rock, Arona, Commander Elizabeth, Tara! A large number of berserk zombies with bloodshot eyes have broken out of the locked laboratory. We need backup! We need... *zzzzzz*"

"Hey? George, George! Damn it, they're in danger!"

Upon hearing Elizabeth's words, Tara gripped her weapon tighter.

“Commander Elizabeth, we need to go back to the ground floor to help George and the others.”

Elizabeth nodded and said.

“That’s right, but we can take the elevator here. Follow me.”

A dozen seconds later, the two arrived at the only elevator on the third basement floor and then pressed the button to go up.

"bite---"

The doors on both sides of the elevator opened.

But just as the two were about to enter, they saw another scene that filled them with fear.
