The Walking Dead: I Sell Arms as a Sixth-Rate Seller in the Apocalypse
Chapter 167 Rick's Gift for Philip!
11:50pm.
Woodbury Town.
After a journey of more than half an hour, Rick, Jim, and their nephew Gigg finally arrived in Woodbury before 12 o'clock.
As the police-model Ford Conqueror SUV pulled into the south gate parking lot of Woodbury, Rick used the memory-editing function of his universal bracelet to delete Jim and Giger's memories again and add a modified memory to the deleted fragments, making them believe that they had come to Woodbury with people from the abandoned quarry camp two nights earlier.
After doing all this, Rick left the two of them in the south gate parking lot and gave Jim some instructions.
“Jim, you and your nephew Gig stay here. Go to the governor’s mansion in this town and find the leader here, Philip Black. Just tell him that I want you to set up an auto modification engineering department here. As long as you mention my name, he will support you unconditionally.”
At this moment, Jim, still suffering from the side effects of memory deletion, nodded blankly without saying a word. He then pulled his nephew Gigg, who also had a blank expression, and headed towards the governor's mansion that Rick had mentioned.
Thinking of his father-in-law's suspicious nature, Rick picked up the walkie-talkie and shouted to the other side.
"Rick, calling Philip Black, Rick calling cheap father-in-law Philip, please respond, over."
A moment later, a violent voice came through the walkie-talkie.
"Rick, you bastard, what do you mean by 'cheap father-in-law'? Are you just making up stories about your father-in-law on public channels?"
At this moment, in the town of Woodbury, almost everyone holding a walkie-talkie was hiding to the side and snickering, and even the guards standing watch at the Governor's Mansion were trying hard to suppress their laughter.
Inside the governor's mansion, Phillip and the people at the abandoned quarry camp were discussing their plan to seize the Georgia State Penitentiary.
But when everyone present heard their boss talking about Philip over the walkie-talkie, everyone's expressions were very varied. Even Philip's wife, Park Mi-ri, was struggling to suppress her laughter. Seeing everyone's expressions, Philip's face looked as ugly as if he had eaten a spicy snack.
Just as Philip was about to get angry, Rick's voice came through the walkie-talkie again.
“Father-in-law, a pair of uncles and nephews will be coming to the Governor’s Mansion to see you later. The uncle is named Jim and the nephew is named Giger. These two have repaired war vehicles for the National Guard. I recommend them to you. They can modify vehicles for our forces or repair and maintain infantry fighting vehicles and even tanks in the future.”
Upon hearing this, Philip, who had just been looking constipated, instantly transformed like a face-changing act in Peking Opera, from a furrowed brow to a beaming smile. His transformation once again surprised everyone's perception of Philip.
Philip picked up the walkie-talkie and responded politely to Rick's words.
"Hehehe, good son-in-law, leave this to me, don't worry, I guarantee I'll handle it perfectly for you."
Rick frowned and said in a cold tone.
“Philip, you old bastard, listen to me. Jim and Gigg are among our most valuable talents. You’re not allowed to neglect them. If I find out that you’re disobeying the tasks I’ve given you, your daughter Penny can forget about turning back into a human.”
Upon hearing the first part of the conversation, Philip frowned, but upon hearing the last part, his expression was immediately replaced by shock, and he quickly picked up the walkie-talkie to begin questioning.
"What? Penny? Good son-in-law, do you know where Penny is?"
"Of course, I not only know where Penny is, I also have a way to turn her zombie back into your lovely daughter."
Upon hearing this, Philip broke down, tears streaming down his face. A long-lost smile appeared on his weathered face—a genuine smile, a smile from the heart, from hearing that his own daughter was back by his side.
“Rick, Rick, my good son-in-law, I’ll give you anything you want if you can bring my daughter Penny back to life. I’ll even let her marry you as your concubine if you can bring Penny back to life.”
Hearing this, Rick was speechless. In all his life, this was the first time he had ever seen a father who would offer his own daughter to his son-in-law as a concubine.
"Alright, we'll talk about this later. Remember to take care of the things I asked you to do first, and try to get the vehicle modification factory up and running as soon as possible. Then pick out a few guys who know about cars to help Jim and Giger. I don't need to teach you the rest, right?"
"No need, no need, leave this to me, don't worry."
Everyone was speechless at Philip's obsequious manner, but no one spoke up. They all understood that Philip only acted this way in front of his family; he wouldn't be so agreeable to outsiders like them.
Thinking of this, everyone turned their heads away as if they hadn't seen anything. However, their actions never escaped Philip's sharp eyes.
He put down the walkie-talkie and spoke to the crowd with a dark expression.
"No one is allowed to spread what happened today, or don't blame me for being ruthless."
Upon hearing this, everyone expressed their agreement.
Seeing this, Philip couldn't continue to attack the crowd. He cleared his throat, put on his previous serious face, and spoke to everyone.
“Rick, did everyone here hear what he said? Is there anyone in the room who knows about cars and repairs? If so, stay and wait for orders. The rest of you, go do what you were supposed to do.”
Seeing this, everyone left Philip's office, leaving only Philip and Park Mi-ri looking at each other in bewilderment.
ten minutes later.
Jim and his brother Giggs then went to Philip's office.
The two men saw Philip sitting in the middle of the desk and went up to him.
"Hello sir, may I ask if you are here for...?"
Before Jim could finish speaking, Philip immediately stepped forward to interrupt him.
"Jim and Giger, right? My good son-in-law told me you two can repair tanks and infantry fighting vehicles?"
Upon hearing this, Jim and Giger both nodded in agreement with Philip's question.
"Alright, I agree to your plan to set up a vehicle modification factory. You two can ask me for anything you need. If I have it, I will definitely give it to you. If I don't have it, I will also get my men to find it for you. You can come to me with any problems or difficulties."
Hearing this, Jim and Giggs breathed a sigh of relief. Before they came, the guards outside the governor's mansion had thoughtfully reminded them, "Be careful what you say in front of Governor Philip; he's not an easy person to get along with."
Upon hearing this, the uncle and nephew instinctively wanted to back out, but then they remembered what their eldest brother Rick had said, so they had no choice but to bite the bullet and go in to find Philip. However, before they could even finish speaking, Philip had already arranged everything and was not as difficult to get along with as the guard at the door had said.
Thinking of this, Jim said with a smile.
"Then I'll have to trouble you, Mr. Philip."
And so, Jim and his nephew Giggs discussed the construction of a vehicle conversion plant with Philip in the governor's office.
Meanwhile, inside the south gate parking lot.
Rick activated the vehicle system and upgraded the police-type Ford Expedition SUV in front of him by spending another 10 points. The system notification sounded again.
[Ding! Detected that the host has once again consumed points to repair the vehicle "Police Ford Conqueror SUV". Copying permission for this vehicle has been unlocked.]
Upon seeing the message, Rick was overjoyed. He quickly opened the copy button next to the vehicle system, and a futuristic blue box appeared in front of him.
[Would you like to spend 50 points to copy the police-grade Ford Expedition SUV? Yes/No]
Upon seeing the message, Rick quickly checked his points balance. Seeing that he only had 253 points left, Rick gritted his teeth, stomped his foot, and clicked "yes" five times in a row.
The moment he finished clicking, Rick had only 3 points left. With this move, Rick was back to having no points at all.
But when Rick saw five brand-new police-grade Ford Expedition SUVs parked in the vehicle storage area of his personal space, his heartache over the lost points immediately eased. Taking advantage of the fact that no one was around, he immediately placed the vehicle in a parking space in the parking lot.
Rick went to the rear of one of the cars, opened the trunk, and saw the police uniform, bulletproof vest, ammunition, and grenades still there. He closed the trunk, returned to his own police-type Ford Expedition SUV, picked up the walkie-talkie, and shouted into it.
"Rick calling Philip the old man, Rick calling Philip the old man, please respond, over."
A moment later, Philip's smug voice came through the walkie-talkie.
"Hehehe, good son-in-law, you haven't left yet? Is there anything else you want to add?"
"Oh my, it's only been a short time since we last met, and you're already eager for me to leave. I was planning to leave you a gift before I went, but now it seems I was being really despicable."
Upon hearing that Rick had left him a gift, Philip's greedy nature was revealed once again.
"No, no, no, good son-in-law, it was my fault. Don't be angry. Tell me what the gift is first."
Rick rolled his eyes and retorted irritably.
"Old bastard, you can't even change your face as fast as flipping through a book. Alright, I won't argue with you anymore. I left you a gift in the parking lot at the south gate of the town. Remember to send someone to receive it. As for how to do it, don't ask me. Just arrange it yourself."
Upon hearing this, Philip grabbed his wife, Park Mi-ri, and called Jim and Giger, who were in the room, and ran towards the south parking lot.
Upon receiving the message, Rick immediately jumped into his police-style Ford Expedition SUV, floored the gas pedal, and sped off towards the south gate. Before long, he had left Woodbury and was racing towards Sinoa.
Meanwhile, when Philip and his team arrived at the south gate parking lot, they were immediately drawn to the stylish appearance of the five brand-new police-grade Ford Expedition SUVs.
Philip approached the driver's side of one of the vehicles, opened the door, and saw a spotless interior and an AR15 assault rifle equipped with a red dot sight and a tactical infrared grip, as well as a Remington M870 shotgun, placed on a weapon rack between the driver and passenger seats.
He then opened the trunk of the vehicle and saw the two brand-new police uniforms and bulletproof vests. He immediately beamed with joy and muttered to himself.
"Haha, Rick is such a good guy, he always manages to surprise me."
After speaking, Philip took out the walkie-talkie from his waist and spoke earnestly into it.
“I received the gift and I love it. On behalf of the town of Woodbury, I thank you for your kindness. Thank you.”
Rick, who was driving, smiled when he heard Philip's words and sped up, finally returning to the town of Sinoa before 13 p.m.
