I thrived in the primitive tribe
Chapter 42 Capturing the Humming Beast (1)
As the first rays of sunlight shine into the tribe in the morning, a busy day begins. The Dragon Alliance tribe is now busy every day making pottery, producing jerky and smoked meat, hunting, and so on. Everyone has their own tasks and carries them out step by step.
Just when Lu Yao thought today would be the same as usual, the hunting team brought good news. During their hunt, they encountered a group of Humming Beasts, many of which were newborn cubs.
The tribe considered taming wild animals, but the animals they encountered during recent hunts were all quite large and ferocious. For the tribe members who had not yet fully transformed into human form, raising such animals would undoubtedly pose a significant safety hazard. Therefore, they did not try to capture them alive during hunts.
The appearance of this group of Humming Beast cubs today seems to have opened a new chapter in the domestication of wild animals.
Given the sheer size of the Humming Beast herd, the chieftain realized the gravity of the hunt and quickly dispatched several fast-moving members of the hunting party back to the tribe to seek reinforcements. The men, their faces a mixture of urgency and excitement, briefly explained the situation of the Humming Beast herd and conveyed the chieftain's message to the High Shaman, instructing him to gather the entire tribe to capture the Humming Beast cubs.
Upon receiving the notification, the tribe quickly mobilized. The High Priest wisely made arrangements, assigning several experienced orcs to remain in the tribe to patrol and guard, ensuring the tribe's safety.
The remaining orcs, including the young and strong ones eager to prove their worth, were all fully prepared to join the hunting party in tracking down the Humming Beast herd. They hoped to bring the Humming Beasts back to their tribe, contributing to its development and doing their part.
Upon hearing the news, Lu Yao came out with everyone. At first, everyone disagreed with her coming, but Lu Yao did not give up easily. She found the Great Shaman who was mobilizing personnel and told her her idea.
She hoped the High Priest would allow her to go with them, as Lu Yao believed her knowledge might be helpful to the hunting team, enabling them to capture live Humming Beast cubs more safely and efficiently.
Upon hearing Lu Yao's words, the Great Shaman's eyes flashed with a hint of struggle. She knew Lu Yao's abilities and that she could very well help her people on the spot. However, the Hum Hum Beast was not easy to deal with. Although it was not as powerful as other ferocious beasts, being injured by it would still be a serious matter.
After careful consideration, the High Priestess decided to go with them. With her watching over Lu Yao, there shouldn't be any problems. However, Lu Yao rejected this decision. She felt it would be better for the High Priestess to stay in the tribe and direct everyone in building the fence. Otherwise, there would be nowhere to put the Humming Beast once they brought it back, which would be even worse.
After a quick conversation, Lu Yao left the tribe with the hunting team. The shaman instructed the hunting team to ensure Lu Yao's safety and to let her watch over the animals unless absolutely necessary, and to never let her fight with wild beasts.
The hunting party assured the High Priest that they would protect the divine messenger and ensure that nothing went wrong during the hunt.
After seeing off the hunting party, the high shaman gathered the remaining tribesmen to build a fence. The tribe now consisted mainly of tribesmen who couldn't transform into beast forms and some cubs who hadn't yet reached the differentiation stage. While they couldn't roam the wilderness and hunt like the beastmen, building a small animal pen was still manageable.
Under the guidance of the high shaman, the men, women, and children of the tribe worked together to cut down the tall, sturdy trees around them and carry them back to the tribe. Sunlight filtered through the leaves, shining on their sweat-drenched foreheads, gleaming with determination and hope.
After the first batch of trees was delivered to the tribe, a few people stayed behind to start building a fence. They picked up the stone hammers that had been made not long ago and drove the heavy wooden stakes into the ground.
These stone hammers were drawn by Lu Yao when she proposed building the animal enclosures, and then crafted by the tribespeople according to the design. Initially, the tribespeople were puzzled by the purpose of these novel tools, as they had never seen such shaped implements before.
After the first stone hammer was made, Lu Yao directed the tribespeople to demonstrate. It wasn't that she didn't want to demonstrate herself, but the hammer was simply too heavy for her to lift. The tribespeople demonstrating easily drove thick tree branches into the ground with the hammer, and their eyes lit up with amazement and sudden realization. "So that's what this stone hammer is for!" Later, while cooking, Lu Yao directed everyone to use the hammer to crack bones, and the tribespeople were even more astonished by its immense power.
Later, during hunts, hunting party members would sometimes carry stone hammers to chase and attack their prey. If used properly, when encountering large beasts, everyone wouldn't need to transform into beast form to fight back, which brought great convenience. However, stone hammers were quite heavy, and smaller stone hammers were ineffective against large beasts, so they weren't always carried when going out.
The high shaman directed the people to continuously transport the trees back to the tribe, and slowly the animal enclosure was built. To make it more sturdy and prevent it from being broken open by wild animals, they were extremely careful during construction. They checked that each piece of wood was thick enough and hard enough. When setting up the enclosure, they also put a lot of effort into driving it into the ground to avoid any instability.
During construction, they discovered that the method of nailing the wood perpendicular to the ground was not very secure. So they added some angled insertions inside, and after trying them, they found that this made the wood more solid.
Everyone in the tribe was busy in an orderly manner, waiting for the hunting team to return in triumph.
On Lu Yao's side, after a rapid and tense chase along a dense forest path, they reunited with the leader and his group. Upon seeing Lu Yao, the leader's face showed surprise. His brows furrowed, and a hint of doubt flashed in his eyes; he clearly didn't understand why the High Shaman had sent Lu Yao along.
In the leader's view, although Lu Yao was beautiful, her physical qualities and strength were not enough for her to join the hunting party. It felt like she was not going to hunt wild animals, but to feed them.
Although he didn't know what was going on, since they were already here, he couldn't send them back now.
Then, the leader turned to Luo Xue and the others, and solemnly instructed them: "You must keep a close eye on the divine messenger at all times, ensure her safety, and absolutely do not let her get hurt."
Luo Xue and the others nodded knowingly. They were well aware of their heavy responsibility. The changes in the tribe were all brought about by the divine messenger. If anything happened to the divine messenger, they didn't know what the tribe would become. They absolutely could not allow such a thing to happen. The group stood firmly beside Lu Yao.
Seeing their actions, Lu Yao knew that the leader must have given them another order to protect her safety. However, Lu Yao really felt it was unnecessary. She had no intention of participating in the capture operation. She came here just to see if she could help everyone by setting up some traps or something to minimize casualties.
Lu Yao knew she couldn't win an argument with the leaders, so she could only let them do as they pleased.
