I thrived in the primitive tribe

Chapter 10, First Wicker Basket

Seeing Luo Xue wake up, Luo Ya was extremely excited. The Great Shaman also quickly went over to check on her and said after examining her injuries.

“Luo Xue is still quite weak. She needs to drink herbal meat soup all day, but you can add some well-cooked minced meat to the soup. At this rate of recovery, her injuries should heal quickly, but the broken arm will need a little more time to fully heal. Luo Ya, what about you later…”

The high priest told Loya about Luo Xue's injuries and what precautions to take regarding her diet and other things.

Looking at the young man in front of her, Lu Yao suddenly realized that Luo Xue, who had just woken up, did not look like Luo Ya at all. Logically speaking, as brothers, the two should have some similarities, but the two were completely different. She wondered what was going on.

Just as Lu Yao was staring at Luo Xue, Luo Xue seemed to notice someone staring at her. She looked up and her eyes met Lu Yao's. The two looked at each other but didn't make any further moves.

After the Great Shaman finished giving instructions to Luo Ya, he turned around and saw Lu Yao staring at Luo Xue. He was puzzled as to why Lu Yao was staring at Luo Xue.

"Aren't you two brothers? How come you don't look alike at all?" Lu Yao asked.

"What is Lu Yao thinking about every day?" the Great Witch wondered helplessly.

"Luo Xue and I are not blood brothers."

Lu Yao opened her mouth in surprise.

"Luo Xue was picked up by Luo Ya outside. I don't know which careless parents abandoned their child in the forest. Luo Ya happened to find him when he was a child and went out to pick fruits. He then adopted him as his younger brother."

"Doesn't Luo Xue remember her own name? Which tribe is she from?"

"He probably encountered some kind of misfortune back then. When he was first picked up, this little guy could only stay with Loya and no one else was allowed to touch him. He may have been traumatized by something. Later, after he recovered, he forgot everything that had happened before."

That's good. Just surviving is already a blessing from the Beast God; nothing else matters.

"That's true. As long as we're alive, nothing else matters. It will all pass," Lu Yao thought to herself.

Lu Yao continued her work with the vine baskets. Today, the Great Shaman had to process the herbs picked yesterday, so Lu Yao had to handle the vines herself.

After Luo Ya finished tidying up Luo Xue, he helped Luo Xue sit up and leaned him against the cave wall. Then he went over to Lu Yao and helped her deal with the vines. With Luo Ya's help, the speed increased rapidly. It felt like no time had passed before the vines were dealt with.

Lu Yao soaked the prepared rattan in warm water for a period of time (about 1 hour).

While waiting for the vines to soak, Lu Yao helped the Great Shaman prepare the herbs, while Luo Ya said goodbye and left after the vines were processed.

While organizing the herbs, the shaman explained their medicinal properties to Lu Yao, as well as how to use them, the dosage and proportions, and so on.

Watching the two interact, Luo Xue thought to herself, "Is the Great Shaman going to groom this newcomer, Lu Yao, as his successor? It seems I'd better not offend her in the future, in case I get injured and have to trouble Lu Yao to treat me."

At this time, Luo Xue was unaware that the identity the leader and the Great Shaman had arranged for Lu Yao was far more powerful than that of the Great Shaman's successor.

Lu Yao checked the time and felt it was about time. After speaking with the Great Shaman, she went to weave a rattan basket.

First, she took out the soaked rattan, shook off the water, and recalled what she had seen before: arrange the seven rattans tightly together to form a circle, and starting from the center, weave them horizontally in a staggered pattern to form the bottom of the rattan basket. Make sure that each rattan is tightly interwoven to form a sturdy bottom.

Because it was my first time doing this, the weaving wasn't very good; the bottom was barely formed.

Lu Yao remembers that after the bottom was woven, she folded up all the rattan on the sides and began weaving the sides of the rattan basket. This step required patience and skill to ensure that the sides were woven neatly and sturdily.

But when she actually started doing it herself, it wasn't as easy as she had imagined. It took a lot of effort to finally get the sides in place. Then, when it came time to finish, she ran into another problem.

The finishing touch involves trimming off excess rattan and inserting it into the woven rattan to create a neat and sturdy finish. Since there were no scissors available, she initially considered tearing it off by hand, but every time she pulled, the previously woven sections would be deformed, causing the entire rattan basket to become crooked and twisted.

The Great Shaman noticed Lu Yao's troubled expression and looked at the strange-looking barrel-shaped thing in front of her, wondering what had happened.

"Lu Yao, is this the rattan basket you mentioned? It's finished weaving so quickly?"

"No, it just needs to be finished off. If it's not finished off, it will fall apart."

"So, you just don't know how to shut up, or what?"

"Now we need to cut off these excess vines at the top, that is, remove the excess vines at the top. I've tried for a long time, but I can't break them."

Seeing Lu Yao's troubled expression, the Great Shaman looked at the sky outside and said.

"Then wait a moment. Luo Ya should be back to feed Luo Xue. Ask him to help you with it. He's strong enough to tear it off for you."

"Aren't we supposed to eat two meals a day? It's still a long way from dinner time."

"Luo Xue is injured and eating less, so she will have an extra meal a day to help her recover. Judging from the sky, it should be almost time for Luo Xue to have her extra meal. Please wait a moment."

After listening to the shaman's words, Lu Yao thought about it and agreed that it would work. So she began to tidy up the rattan baskets that had been torn apart earlier.

"Great Shaman, I've come to bring Luo Xue her meal."

Loya's voice came from outside, arriving before the person. This was to let the people inside the cave know that someone had come. If the owner did not want outsiders to come in, he would call out to stop them. Usually, when someone called out, the person would stand outside for a while, and if they were not stopped, they would enter the cave on their own.

Lu Yao watched as Luo Ya strode into the cave, carrying Luo Xue's lunch and two bamboo tubes of meat soup.

"Didn't you always give one bamboo tube before? Why are there two this time?" Lu Yao asked curiously.

“Luo Xue has woken up and can drink two bamboo tubes now, so I told Luo Ya to gradually add food to her diet. Luo Ya, you’ve finally arrived. Lu Yao needs your help with that, and I’ll help feed Luo Xue.”

After hearing the shaman's words, Loya looked at Lu Yao, raised an eyebrow, and seemed to ask, "Is there anything I can help you with?"

Lu Yao received a questioning look from Luo Ya and spoke.

"I need you to help me remove the excess vines from the top of the wicker basket, otherwise I can't finish the end here."

Loya handed the handmade food to the Great Shaman, then walked over to Lu Yao and, following her instructions, tore off the excess vines from the basket. He finished in no time.

Lu Yao asked while watching Luo Ya operate the device.

"Is there any suitable cutting tool in the tribe? I can't ask you for help every time, it's too much trouble. I might need to cut other things in the future."

“A stone knife is fine, but it’s too heavy. Next time you go hunting, you can talk to the chief and see if you can find someone to make you a bone knife. At the moment, it seems there’s no better way.”

"Alright, I'll talk to the leader first."

After Luo Ya finished processing the rattan, Lu Yao inserted it into the woven rattan to seal the ends and prevent it from coming apart. She picked up the rattan basket and looked at it from left to right, feeling incredibly capable and amazing. Although it wasn't very pretty, at least it was formed.

Seeing Lu Yao happily hugging what she had made, Luo Ya asked.

"What are you making? What are you going to use this for?"

"This is a wicker basket, used to hold things. This is my first time making one, so it doesn't look very good. But it will get better after I make more."

The Great Shaman also looked at the wicker basket that Lu Yao had been longing for and realized that it could indeed hold more things than the leaf bags they used, but it didn't seem very convenient to carry.

"You've packed quite a lot, but it's not very convenient to carry around, is it?"

"This also needs two shoulder straps so you can carry it on your back."

As she spoke, Lu Yao began to make the basket. She finished quickly and wanted to attach the straps to the basket, but no matter how she tied them, they didn't feel secure. Luo Ya, who was standing nearby, understood what Lu Yao meant, so he took the woven shoulder straps from her and attached them to the basket by wrapping and binding them.

He tested it and felt it shouldn't break, then handed the prepared wicker basket back to Lu Yao.

After receiving it, Lu Yao immediately carried it on her back and tried it out while walking around. She felt there were no problems.

The Great Witch exclaimed in admiration upon seeing Lu Yao's finished product and the way she operated it.

"This is indeed much more convenient."
