The Bully General's Spiritual Husband
Chapter 52 Wooden Fixed Pulley
At the Li family's place, Yin Baicai and the others had all finished eating, but Li Zhe was still nowhere to be seen.
After finishing their meal, Ge Tian and the others went back to work. Yin Baicai's cooking was delicious, so they worked even harder.
The foundation is already more than halfway done; it should be finished in two or three days at most.
Li Mo felt sleepy after eating and had already been carried to her room to sleep by Yin Baicai.
Seeing the food on the table had gone cold, Yin Baicai was about to take it to the kitchen to reheat it.
A gruff voice came from behind: "No need to heat it up."
Yin Baicai looked up at Li Zhe as he walked in and asked, "Where did you go? Why didn't you come back for lunch?"
"I went to the field to weed and forgot the time."
"Oh right, where's your hoe? Didn't I see you took it with you when you left?"
Li Zhe then remembered that he had forgotten to put his hoe on the ground because he had gone to find the person who was gossiping about Yin Baicai after hearing the two women gossiping.
“After I finish eating, I still need to hoe for a while in the field.”
"Then I'll go with you."
Li Zhe was afraid that if Yin Baicai went with him, she would find out that he hadn't weeded, and then she would definitely question him about it.
Changing the subject: "By the way, didn't you say you wanted to make some kind of fixed pulley? You can go to the village chief's house and talk to him about it first."
It was only after Li Zhe reminded her that Yin Baicai remembered that she still needed to install a pulley for the village well!
"By the way, you should eat quickly. After you finish eating, I'll clean up the dishes and then go over to talk to the village chief."
Li Zhe took the rice that Yin Baicai handed him and ate it along with the cold dishes on the table.
Li Zhe thought the food was still quite good even though it was cold.
They only put down their chopsticks after eating two large bowls.
Yin Baicai took the bowl that Li Zhe had finished eating, washed it in the sink, and put it back in the cupboard.
After Li Zhe finished eating, he went back to the field to weed. Before he left, Yin Baicai handed him a tube of chilled mung bean soup.
“You didn’t get to drink it yesterday, Li the bully. This is freshly brewed today. Try it.”
Li Zhe nodded, put the bamboo tube in his pocket, and left.
By the time the dishes and utensils were cleared away, more than half an hour had passed.
Yin Baicai brought the cooked mung bean soup to Ge Tian and the others who were working.
“Brother Cai, you don’t need to go to all that trouble to cook mung bean soup for us. The well is right there, just a few steps away.”
Yin Baicai: "It's no trouble at all. This will cool you down when it's hot."
Several honest farmers smiled and thanked Yin Baicai.
After delivering the goods, Yin Baicai went straight into the village chief's house next to Li Zhe's house.
He knocked on the door, and Li Hui, who was in the courtyard, said, "The door isn't closed, just come in."
Upon hearing this, Yin Baicai pushed open the door and went inside. "Grandma Village Chief, what are you busy with?"
"Oh, it's Brother Cai. What brings you to my house? There's a stool over there, help yourself."
Yin Baicai picked up a stool and plopped down. "Grandpa Village Chief isn't here. I want to talk to him about something."
"You wait and see, that old man is probably inside coaxing Yuanyuan to take a nap!"
Soon Li Hui called her husband out, "Old man, Cai Ge'er is looking for you."
The village chief chuckled: "Brother Cai, what brings you here to see this old man?"
Yin Baicai told the village chief about her idea of installing a pulley in the well.
After listening, the village chief asked, "Brother Cai, is your pulley system okay?"
The village chief knew that there were many people in the village, and now that it was hot, many people were drawing water from the well every day. Throwing the bucket in to draw water was indeed slow and laborious.
Sometimes people miss the target and have to start over, which delays things.
Yin Baicai: "It's feasible. I've seen people use it before, Village Chief." He thought to himself: Are you kidding me? This is a treasure passed down from our ancestors. Wooden fixed pulleys, it saves effort.
"Alright, let's take the tools and go to the well to install one now. If it doesn't work, we'll just take it down. There's no harm in trying."
Just then, the village chief had some chopped timber, so the two of them took their tools and went to the well.
The village chief used to be a carpenter, so Yin Baicai first measured out the dimensions to be used.
"Village chief, first cut this firewood into four sections this long." After cutting, Yin Baicai arranged the four sections of wood into an X shape and placed them on the two symmetrical sides of the well.
Dig a hole under the wood and bury it deep in the ground.
When Yin Baicai was digging a hole to bury the wood, he asked the village chief to drill a hole in the middle of a piece of wood about the length of a forearm and attach a wooden handle to it.
Once the binding is complete, find a suitable piece of wood, thread it through the hollowed-out wood, and tie the assembled wood to the already erected X-shaped stakes.
After everything was set up, Yin Baicai finally tied the rope from the wooden bucket that had been used to fetch water to the section of wood that had already been drilled.
The village chief looked at the decent-looking wooden pulley and thought: This should work; it looks like a good thing.
Yin Baicai stood to the side and said to the village chief with a smile, "Grandpa Village Chief, why don't you try it and see if it's as I said?"
Seeing the masterpiece he had helped create, the village chief wanted to try it himself.
"Brother Cai, how do I use this?"
Yin Baicai looked at the curious village chief and said, "Grandpa Village Chief, you pull this handle forward to lower the bucket, and when the water comes up, you pull it back to bring it up."
The village chief carefully rocked the bucket forward as Yin Baicai had instructed, and soon the sound of water entering the bucket could be heard.
He tried rocking back again and easily scooped up a full bucket of water.
The village chief laughed happily: "It's done, it really is done, it was so easy to pull it up."
Li Hui walked out smiling as she heard her old man's happy shouts from the courtyard.
Looking at their masterpiece: "Old men, you actually finished it?"
"Yes, old woman, come and try it. It's easy and simple."
Li Hui stood over, and the village chief explained the method Yin Baicai had given her to Li Hui. They quickly fetched the water.
"It works great! It really saves effort and makes fetching water faster. Now the villagers won't have to wait so long to get water."
The village chief praised Yin Baicai, "Brother Cai, your method is really good!"
Yin Baicai scratched his head and gave a silly smile.
After the three of them finished cleaning up the wood shavings, Li Hui said with a smile, "Old men, you should go back and rest. You've been working hard for a while. Brother Cai, I've cooked some mung bean soup. Come to my house and have some."
"I will stay here and guard it. When someone comes to fetch water, I will tell them how to use this wooden stake."
The village chief stroked his beard and laughed: "My wife and son say this is called a fixed pulley, not a wooden stake."
"Okay, okay, I got it. Go and rest now. Oh, and make Cai Ge a bowl of mung bean soup!"
Yin Baicai refused, saying, "Grandma Li, I won't drink it. I still need to go home to cut grass and feed the chickens!"
"Okay, next time I come to drink, I'll definitely tell everyone in the village that this was a great idea that Brother Cai came up with."
Yin Baicai locked the door to Li Zhe's house and prepared to go back to cut grass, as there wasn't much grass left for the old hen when he checked it that morning.
As soon as Yin Baicai opened the door, she saw that her family's old hen, which she had raised for more than two years, had been crushed to death in the yard.
It lay lifeless on the ground, even its comb had turned black.
He always kept the chickens in cages, but now someone has dragged them out and strangled them.
When Yin Baicai entered her house, the door was still intact; the person must have climbed over the wall to get in.
Who is it?
You absolutely mustn't let Yin Baicai catch you, otherwise...
