The Bully General's Spiritual Husband

Chapter 4 Helping to Fetch Water

Yin Baicai followed behind Li Zhe with envy, becoming more and more jealous as she looked at him. She muttered to herself, "He must be at least 1.9 meters tall, and those well-developed biceps are so bulging."

"Just now I grabbed her big hand, which was bigger than my face. This perfect Hydra proportion is simply a chosen model!"

Li Zhe couldn't ignore the gaze fixed on him from behind, and the occasional muttering through gritted teeth.

He said coldly to the person behind him, "Go open the door."

"Oh...oh." Yin Baicai hurriedly pushed open the small wooden door, but the harsh "click" sound continued.

He looked at the dilapidated little door in front of him and thought he should be careful, otherwise he would break it if he pushed too hard.

He said obsequiously, "Brother, please come in."

Li Zhe carried water to the water vat and poured it in.

Seeing that the water tank was almost empty and there was still a lot of water spilled on the ground in the yard, he asked, "Is your yard flooded?"

Yin Baicai scratched his head: "No, I'm washing river snails! Washing these things uses a lot of water."

Li Zhe raised an eyebrow. This young man's family was so poor that he actually had to go to the river to pick river snails to eat. He had eaten them before, and they left his mouth full of mud and sand and smelled fishy.

"Throw those things away, I'll go back and get you some later."

Yin Baicai shook her head firmly: "I won't throw it away, it's a good thing."

Seeing that he refused, Li Zhe understood that this young man was strong-willed and wouldn't easily accept his things.

I remember once secretly sending them something, only to find it still untouched the next day.

Forget it, he won't accept it even if I give it to him, it's the same thing before.

Without saying much, he picked up the carrying pole and headed out.

Yin Baicai asked, "Why are you carrying my bucket? Do you need to carry water too?"

Li Zhe didn't turn around to answer him: "No need to pick, I'll fill the jar for you first."

Yin Baicai grinned: "Thank you, brother."

Li Zhe paused for a moment, then quickly left.

When did this shy young man become so bold as to talk to me?

Yin Baicai thought to herself: This bully Li is actually quite kind-hearted. Who said he was hard to get along with? People's words can be a real danger.

He went back to the kitchen with a satisfied smile to check on the river snails he was cooking.

Looking at the stove, the fire was almost out. No wonder I didn't smell any fragrance when I came back. How could the fragrance have come out when the fire was out?

I blame myself for waiting too long at the village entrance.

He picked up a few pieces of firewood, put them in, and blew on the stove opening. A thick, choking smoke billowed out.

Yin Baicai coughed as she ran out of the kitchen, leaning against the doorframe: "This earthen stove is really hard to handle, it's choking me to death."

After getting some fresh air, I turned back and found the stove fire burning again.

The river snail soup in the pot soon began to boil.

The aroma wafted out, and Yin Baicai sighed, "It smells good, but there aren't enough seasonings. It doesn't smell as good as Uncle Xiaopang's."

I miss Uncle Fatty and the others so much. I wonder how business is at the small restaurant now. It's been more than a month since I transmigrated here.

The sound of Li Zhe pouring water into the vat startled him, and Yin Baicai was brought back to her senses.

He came out and said with a smile, "Li the bully, you helped me fetch water, so I'll treat you to river snails."

Li Zhe recalled the scene when he and his elder brother were extremely hungry and went to the river to catch river snails to eat.

The two men took a small, broken pot and boiled the snails. After a while, the water in the pot was full of mud and sand. When they dug out the snail meat, it was not only covered in mud but also smelled bad.

But they were so hungry that they ate the river snails along with the mud and sand.

He said coldly to Yin Baicai, "You shouldn't eat it either. That stuff is all mud and sand."

Yin Baicai patted her chest and said, "Don't worry, what I make will definitely be free of mud and sand, and it will be very fragrant."

Li Zhe looked at him with some doubt, then decided to go home after fetching water and get him two pieces of bread.

He silently picked up his carrying pole and went out again.

Yin Baicai watched the person walk away: You'll be drooling in a moment if you don't believe me.

Two hours later.

Li Zhe then filled the large water vat at Yin Baicai's house.

Yin Baicai gave Li Zhe a thumbs up: "Brother, you're really amazing! If I were to carry it myself, it would probably take me two days. And there are so many people carrying water at the village entrance. You finished in just two hours. That's incredible!"

Li Zhe put down the bucket and was about to go back.

Yin Baicai grabbed him and said, "Why are you running away? I already told you to stay and have some food. It's almost dinner time."

Li Zhe coldly watched as he held his hand.

Yin Baicai immediately let go, knowing that some people don't like being touched.

Li Zhe: "I'm not eating. There are people waiting for me at home."

Yin Baicai remembered that there was a four-year-old child waiting for him at the home of this bully Li.

Not wanting to stop him, she said, "Don't go yet." She hurriedly ran back into the house, grabbed a large bowl, filled it with river snails, and brought it out.

Li Zhe was completely baffled, not knowing what this person wanted to do, so he waited in the courtyard.

Li Zhe looked at the person who came out, who was carrying a full bowl of river snails.

Yin Baicai handed it to him: "Take this back and eat it. Thank you for helping me fetch water today."

Li Zhe looked at the river snails handed to him. Had this young man really cleaned them properly? They looked pretty good.

Seeing that the person hadn't taken it for a while, Yin Baicai said, "Come on, my arm is getting sore from holding it up. Don't worry, I've cleaned it up, I guarantee there's no mud."

Li Zhe took the things and left.

Thinking to myself: This is at least a token of my appreciation, I should take it. I need to hurry back; my little nephew must be hungry.

After seeing that the person had taken the things away, Yin Baicai went back into the house and filled a bowl to the brim, then brought it to Grandma Wu next to her.

Grandma Wu's gate wasn't closed properly, and Yin Baicai called out from outside, "Grandma, I'm coming in."

Grandma Wu was cooking in the kitchen when she heard the noise and came out to see Yin Baicai carrying river snails.

"Brother Cai, you've managed to make it."

Yin Baicai smiled and said, "Yes, Grandma, you should try it, it's delicious."

Grandma Wu smiled and said, "Okay, bring it over and put it on the table. It's tiring to carry it around."

Grandma Wu thought that this was Cai Ge'er's kind gesture, so even if it didn't taste good, she would still eat it.

Grandma Wu smiled and tasted one, her eyes brightening: "It's delicious! How did you make this? It's not only free of mud and sand, but it's also not fishy or smelly anymore."

Yin Baicai said happily, "Grandma, it's delicious, please eat more. Let me tell you, to make these river snails, you need to..."

After listening, Grandma Wu praised him, "Brother Cai, you are really clever! You actually came up with such a good way to make this food so delicious."

"Grandma, I only learned about it by chance after doing it once. Grandma, I'm going back now, it'll be bad if it gets dark soon."

Grandma Wu knew that everyone in the village was poor, and few families could afford candles. Everyone was trying to get things done before dark.

She urged Yin Baicai to stay, saying, "Brother Cai, you haven't eaten yet, have you? Eat here with Grandma."

Yin Baicai refused her request, after all, Wu A-nai had a hard life, and she felt embarrassed to stay for a meal.

Besides, there's still a large pot of snails waiting for me to enjoy at home.

After saying goodbye to Grandma Wu, Yin Baicai returned home and scooped the snails out of the pot.

He simply made a bowl of dumpling soup; that would be his dinner for the day.

While eating the snails, I exclaimed, "The wild ones are definitely tastier than the farmed ones."

As the sun sets, I sit alone in the courtyard, enjoying the best meal I've had since arriving here.

Holding a full bag of river snails, Li Zhe thought that the enthusiastic people he met today reminded him of the skinny boy who used to give him pancakes back in the day.

A slight smile appeared on his lips.
