After Zhao Lian and the others left, several more groups of people arrived at the dilapidated temple, but they only stayed briefly before continuing their journey.

That day, another group of people arrived at the dilapidated temple. Upon closer inspection, it turned out to be Zhao Feng and Yang Mu's group.

After they got separated from Zhaolian last time, they traveled very slowly because they had no food or water and almost died on the way.

They survived for a while by eating tree bark and gnawing on tree roots.

Later, in a village, I saw a man and a woman cooking in a dilapidated house, and the air was filled with the aroma of meat.

Taking advantage of their inattention, Yang Mu and Li Chunhua slipped in, knocked them unconscious, tied them up, and snatched the pot of food.

It was a pot of meat. It tasted quite tender, but the flavor was a bit strange. I don't know how to describe it.

No one cared much about anything else and ate their fill. But after they finished eating, they noticed a child's head on the side and realized with horror that it was human flesh.

Zhao Feng felt terrible upon hearing this; her stomach churned, but she couldn't vomit.

He Mu beat the two men until they cried for their parents. After questioning them, he learned that the man and woman were not husband and wife, but each had their own families. They had eloped to this place while fleeing famine.

Seeing that there was nothing to eat and that they were about to die, they happened to see a family burying something.

I saw a woman crying and sobbing. Later I learned that her two-month-old son had died on the way to escape the disaster.

After seeing the other person leave, the two discussed digging the child out. The child was thin and small.

The two entered a dilapidated house, where they found a broken pot. The man took out his knife and, after a flurry of activity, started cooking. Before they could even eat, they ran into He Mu and his group.

Upon seeing the head, Li Cunhua could no longer stay inside and quickly ran out, refusing to remain there even if she were beaten to death.

After a hearty meal and two days of travel, Qiaodun was hungry again and started to cry.

Finally, Zhao Fu threatened to eat him if he cried again, which terrified Qiao Dun so much that he dared not leave Li Chunhua's side.

Later, when I was too tired to walk any further, I happened to see this dilapidated temple and went inside.

I saw two families inside; one woman was pregnant, and the other woman looked like she had just given birth not long ago.

Not long after Zhao Feng sat down, Li Chunhua urged her to go find something to eat.

"Don't rush!" He Mu said.

He noticed that the two households seemed to have water to drink, and judging from their conversation, they had been there for more than just a day or two.

"Dad, what's wrong?"

Zhao Feng noticed that He Mu was staring thoughtfully at the house across the street.

"Zhao Feng, didn't you notice anything?" He Mu looked at Zhao Feng.

"No!" Zhao Feng shook her head.

The other person seemed fine, except that the woman looked a bit weak, probably because she had just given birth, and needed to be fed.

Oh right, they're eating! They have something to eat!

Zhao Feng finally realized what was going on.

"Do you understand now?"

He Mu knew that Zhao Feng had figured it out.

"Dad, it looks like they have something to eat over there too," Zhao Feng said, pointing to Chen Min and the others.

“That’s right, Zhao Feng, you’re a girl, so people aren’t as wary of you. Try to find a way to ask around and see where there’s water.”

He Mu noticed that the other person's water hyacinth seemed to be filled with water. If there was water, there was hope.

"Water, I want to drink water!"

Upon hearing He Mu mention water, Qiao Dun started crying again.

"Dun'er, be good, let's not make a fuss!" Li Chunhua touched Qiao Dun's face, trying to soothe him.

After a period of continuous travel, coupled with not having food or water and going hungry for days after eating one meal, Qiao Dun went from being fair and plump to being dark and thin, which made Li Chunhua feel very sorry for him.

"It's all your fault!"

Qiao Dun angrily slapped Li Chunhua's hand away, glaring at her with disgust: "I was doing just fine with Dad, why did you take me away?"

"Qiaodun, listen to your mother~"

"I won't listen! If I stayed with my father, he wouldn't make me work without food or water, and put up with these two beggars' wrath every day."

"Who are you calling a beggar? Say it again and see what happens!" Zhao Fu was furious when he heard Qiao Dun say that he was a beggar.

"Beggar, beggar, you are a beggar!"

With Li Chunhua backing him up, the bridge pier showed no fear whatsoever, standing with his hands on his hips and looking at Zhao Fu defiantly.

"You want a beating, huh? I'll beat you to death!"

Zhao Fu swung his fist and punched Qiao Dun, who lost his balance and fell to the ground.

Zhao Fu mounted him and slapped Qiao Dun hard across the face with both hands, leaving him dazed and disoriented.

"Waaaaah!" Qiao Dun burst into tears, crying, "Mother!"

"Zhaofu, let him go!" Li Chunhua cried out anxiously, frantically pulling at Zhaofu. "Zhaofu, listen to me, let him go!"

Unexpectedly, Li Chunhua's words only made Zhao Fu angrier, as his mother was biased and always sided with him.

Thinking of this, he increased the force in his hands, beating Qiao Dun until his face was bruised and swollen.

Zhao Feng was numb. The two of them had been arguing the whole way, and she was hoarse from talking. Now she had nothing to eat or drink and no strength to pull them along.

Right now, she still needs to figure out how to get closer to the two families in the dilapidated temple.

Chen Min and Xiuzhen saw that this family had been causing trouble ever since they came in. They watched as the two children fought and the man didn't try to stop them, and they were filled with contempt.

However, when traveling, no one wanted to cause trouble, so Mu Sheng and Li Gang pretended not to see anything and let them make a fuss.

"Ah~ah~ah~"

Just then, Xiuzhen's newborn daughter was frightened and started crying loudly.

Hearing her granddaughter crying and making a fuss, the old woman got angry. She didn't like the granddaughter to begin with, but she didn't dare to scold her, fearing that Xiuzhen would take her anger out on her and refuse to give her the antidote.

The old woman thought for a moment, then realized that while she might not dare to scold her granddaughter, she could scold others! If Xiuzhen saw her scolding someone else, she might even think she was protecting them and be secretly pleased.

Thinking of this, the old woman immediately put her hands on her hips and started cursing at He Mu: "Can't you see that our child is sleeping? I don't know what kind of father you are. You see the two children fighting and you don't even try to stop them."

He Mu blushed and paled as the other person spoke, and just as he was wondering how to respond, Li Chunhua, not to be outdone, retorted with insults.

"You old woman, this isn't your home. It's normal for kids to fight. Who told your kid to be so timid? If you think it's noisy, you can leave!"

Zhao Feng quickly tugged at Li Chunhua's sleeve and whispered, "Second Aunt, you're stirring things up. Let me handle this."

Li Chunhua glared at her: "You brat, you're siding with outsiders and speaking up for others!"

Zhao Feng ignored Li Chunhua and walked straight towards Xiuzhen.

"Chunhua, shut up!" He Mu realized at this moment that now was the perfect time for Zhao Feng to get closer to the other party.

Seeing that He Mu was angry, Li Chunhua pursed her lips but didn't say anything more.

"Zhaofu, if you don't stop, Dad will be angry!" With that, He Mu pulled Zhaofu up and separated the two of them.
