"Hey kid, how did a weakling like you manage to get a military rank?"

Sitting on the ground, Lorraine stared blankly at the squad surrounding him. Their lively expressions and movements were clearly different from the Scourge undead puppets wandering nearby.

......

"I'm asking you! Are you mute, scout?"

The lead chainmail warrior pointed his sword at Lorraine's nose. The sharp blade was stained with blood; these talking undead had clearly fought their way here.

......

"Quickly, quick, ask them, ask them if it's true!"

Lorraine recalled her teacher's excited words; the teacher seemed trembling with emotion, unable to articulate her meaning clearly. Lorraine understood that her teacher must want to ask if the other person was a player.

Although we don't know what the term "player" actually means.

Lorraine didn't know. Presumably, to the teacher, he was a very important friend or kindred spirit.

"Teacher, don't rush, let me find out their background first..."

Having been scolded by the Forsaken recruits who were studying with him for his abrupt question the first time he asked one in Deathstroke, Lorraine dared not be reckless this time.

"Hello! My name is Lorraine. And you are..."

Polite greetings were a lesson learned from befriending the Minotaur quartermaster, Gamor.

The teacher said that you shouldn't hit a smiling face; when you meet a stranger, it's always a good start to show goodwill.

But the other party didn't seem to be buying it...

......

"Lorraine, is it? We're asking you why you have a military rank. Can't you understand my Necromancer language?"

“Yes, brother. He’s definitely looking down on you. Scouts look down on us reservists.”

The female undead hiding behind the blue fat Void Demon servant echoed, a cunning glint in her eyes.

The undead warrior Tagore, carrying an oak round shield on his back, lifted Lorraine off the ground with one hand.

Grab his robe by the collar and lift him into the air.

"I didn't expect someone so small to be so heavy. I heard a scout beat our guild to it and accepted the bounty mission. That must be you!"

"Trying to steal the Agamand family heirloom from us? No way. We're all waiting to be promoted."

......

Lorraine stared at the other person with a completely bewildered expression.

The undead warrior's eyes were filled with a fury that threatened to devour him.

"Stealing family heirlooms? Bounty offered? Guild!"

Lorraine never expected that accepting the town mayor's task would inadvertently offend these members of her clan.

"Are you adventurers?"

Lorraine asked hesitantly, while also muttering tentatively in a low voice:

"You are...players?"

"What kind of player? We are junior adventurers from the [Death Whisperers] guild, and also reserve members of the Forsaken militia. Kid, how did you manage to get such a rank? We're already the best among this batch of undead recruits. Even so, Garrison Commander Alan only agreed to make us trainee militiamen."

Tagore was furious; blue flames seemed to be shooting out of his helmet...

......

"Militia? Haha, and trainee militia at that. How lucrative!"

The teacher burst into laughter in Lorraine's mind.

Lorraine couldn't laugh. He was being held up like a chick by the undead warriors, who were interrogating him about how he earned military merit.

How can we fool these militiamen?

......

“Sigh, they’re not players. Lorraine, you should team up with them. These should be the Forsaken recruits who awakened in the same batch as you.”

......

"I remember that to register a guild, you have to go to the main city to find the guild registrar. It costs 10 silver coins, but you need 9 players to sign up at the same time."

"It's unbelievable that someone who isn't a player can form an Adventurers' Guild..."

The teacher's analysis and lamentations couldn't help him, so Lorraine could only bite the bullet and say that he had provided urgent military intelligence to the front lines of the war, and that he had obtained his rank by giving a gift to the Shadow Priest.

......

The female undead girl suddenly realized:

"Ha, what military intelligence? We also participated in the ambush and didn't receive any commendation. You must have bribed them. Do you have a relative you knew in Undercity who's engaging in favoritism and corruption?"

The watermelon-headed warlock, who had been silent until now, finally spoke up to stop them:

"Vice President, we're here to complete the bounty and extermination missions, let's not waste any more time."

......

The warlock didn't care whether Lorraine was a scout or not.

His eyes, devoid of pupils, held no sign of life, making him appear blind, yet his gaze could pierce through the surrounding mist to detect evil creatures.

The necromancer pointed to the largest windmill on the hillside: "Lilith, can you use Holy Light to dispel these ghosts?"

The female spirit quickly waved her hand:

"My Holy Light spells are not very powerful; they can only dispel wraiths. However, my Imprisonment spell can imprison a single undead unit for a few minutes."

......

"Many Scourge soldiers and knights here are immune to my Fear spell, and the damage of Shadow Bolt has also been reduced. We'll be in danger if we're surrounded."

......

The three members of the [Death Whisperer] guild completely ignored Lorraine and discussed how to storm the Agamander Mill.

Lorraine was also unhappy about being kept under house arrest.

He forcefully broke free from Tagore's restraints... a tremendous force pried open the undead warrior's fingers.

Lorraine jumped back several steps.

......

“You’re here on a mission too, why don’t you join me? I’m just following orders from the mayor and Kuleman. We all share the same goal; we’re all Forsaken. There’s strength in numbers, so let’s team up.”

The warrior was shocked and furious when a mage pried open his fingers.

Hearing Lorraine's suggestion, he paused for a moment, thinking it didn't seem so bad... He turned to look at his sister and Shrek.

Shrek the sorcerer nodded, but Tagore's sister Lilith shook her head.

"Brother, what's so great about him? I just saw that his magic couldn't even deal with an ordinary soldier. He fought for a while and then sat down to eat and drink, as if he was some kind of genius who could create food and water."

......

Lilith is probably a necromancer...

Lorraine remembered her teacher saying that all magic-based professions require intelligence.

As they spoke, a beam of arcane light poured down on Lilith and Shrek's heads.

The Arcane Eye rune, representing wisdom, appeared above both of their heads.

......

Lilith and Shrek felt subtle changes occurring throughout their bodies. The buff from the Wisdom spell could increase their intelligence for half an hour.

Intelligence is a necessary attribute for all classes that have a mana bar.

Before Lilith could finish her surprised chatter, Lorraine had already gathered mysterious light in her hands and placed bottles and jars of magical spring water and bread in front of them.

......

Upon seeing the bread, Tagore's face immediately lit up with a smile...

"I've been wanting to try magic bread for a long time. I heard it's all-natural, with no additives, and has a wonderful wheat aroma. It's much better than rotten meat and fruit."

Tagore put an arm around Lorraine's shoulder. "Brother, give me an Intelligence boost too. I heard it makes warriors more focused..."

A beam of light descended, the conflict vanished, and the atmosphere instantly improved...

Lorraine breathed a sigh of relief.

.......

"I'm actually here for the mage class quest, the Lich Book. Cleaning up the remnants of the Agamand family is just a side thing. How about we travel together, fight the enemy together, and split the spoils equally according to our needs?"

"No problem, sister, cover me, charge!"

Before anyone else could respond, Tagore, the vice-president of the [Death Whisperer] Adventurer Guild and an undead warrior, had already transformed into a shadow and charged toward the enemy.
