Moonlit Calamity: The Dragon Girl's Life of Idleness is Broken
Chapter 59 Wake up
Around four in the morning, Long Chuqing woke up. She slowly opened her eyes, her consciousness still somewhat hazy.
Where am I? She vaguely remembered that after she came out of the water, she felt dizzy and then lost consciousness.
She snapped out of her daze and stared at the top of the tent; it looked like a bed curtain.
She felt a sense of familiarity, and slowly turned her head to look elsewhere, only to find Xiao Han looking at her with a face full of anxiety.
Since returning, he hasn't gone anywhere. Even though he was exhausted and his eyes were bloodshot, he never closed his eyes to rest for a moment. He just sat quietly by her side, watching over her.
Upon seeing that she had woken up, he rushed over and asked with concern, "You're awake. Do you still feel unwell anywhere?"
A hint of surprise flashed in Long Chuqing's eyes. Wasn't she by the lake? How did she get back? She couldn't remember anything about it.
Her mind was in complete chaos. She glanced at Xiao Han again, and saw a solemn expression on his face. With that in mind, she could guess what was going on.
A faint, complex smile played on her lips as she asked in a weak voice, "Did you bring me back?"
Xiao Han looked at her with lingering fear, still somewhat worried, his expression remaining unwavering.
He nodded and said, "Yes, I searched for you for two days and found you by the lake. You were ice cold and your breathing was weak. I thought..." He stopped there and didn't dare to continue.
He changed the subject and continued, "How are you feeling? Is there anything else that's bothering you?"
"I'm fine now." Long Chuqing looked away awkwardly, not daring to meet his eyes, and looked away guiltily.
She tried to sit up, and Xiao Han quickly went to help her. However, just as Long Chuqing sat up, she didn't expect that her hand would press down on the clothes beneath her.
The wide collar lost its support and slipped off her slender shoulders, revealing large expanses of snow-white skin. A few strands of long hair fell gracefully over her shoulders, exuding a unique and captivating charm.
At this moment, her slightly pale face showed a hint of unease, but it also added a touch of tenderness and charm. She hurriedly reached out to pull up her clothes.
Just then, Xiao Han stepped forward to help her sit up, and happened to be facing her, thus witnessing this brief moment of shyness.
Xiao Han felt a sudden panic and was at a loss for what to do. He quickly stepped aside and stood up, his face instantly turning red.
Long Chuqing looked down and realized that she was wearing a loose-fitting men's outfit.
Seeing this, Xiao Han became uneasy and hurriedly explained, "Well... your clothes were completely soaked, and you were shivering all over, so I changed your wet clothes in the carriage." He continued to explain nervously, "I covered you with a cloak when I changed you, so you didn't see anything."
Long Chuqing stared at him intently, and seeing his flustered explanation, coupled with his face turning red from his neck to his ears, he looked rather... adorable.
She lowered her head, a slight smile playing on her lips, straightened her clothes, and pondered for a moment.
"I should thank you," she said, looking up at Xiao Han.
Xiao Han breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that she wasn't angry. He walked to the table and poured her a glass of water: "Would you like some water? It's just a little cold."
Long Chuqing reached out and took it: "Thank you."
She took a sip of water, lowered her head, and swirled the teacup in her hand in deep thought, her heart filled with mixed emotions.
Since he brought her back, he must have known that she went to the wilderness. No normal person would go to such a remote place for no reason. People would definitely think her behavior was strange!
She sighed softly, looked up at him, and asked nervously, "Don't you find it strange that I'm there?"
After hearing this, Xiao Han slowly sat back down on the edge of the bed and thought about it carefully. There must have been a reason why she was there; otherwise, she wouldn't have run so far away for no reason.
However, some things don't necessarily need to be explained in detail. Everyone has secrets they don't want to talk about. Now that she has returned safely, the reason is no longer important. She will naturally tell you what she wants to say.
"If you don't want to talk about it, I won't ask," Xiao Han said softly. "It's good that you're back safe and sound."
Long Chuqing was slightly surprised upon hearing this. She hadn't expected him to answer like that. Wasn't he curious? Her behavior was certainly considered strange by others!
She stared at him blankly for a few seconds, then her lips curled up into a wry smile. After a moment of thought, she sighed helplessly.
"It's better you don't know."
“Alright,” Xiao Han said gently, looking at her. “Then I won’t ask.”
He thought for a moment and then asked, "Were you poisoned? Because the day you left, everyone said you looked unwell." He was more concerned about whether she was feeling unwell than why she was in the wilderness.
“It’s not poisoning.” Long Chuqing shook her head gently.
"That's good." Xiao Han secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
She looked down at the water in the glass, hesitated for a moment, and then said half-jokingly, "My origins are unknown, and my departure this time was also so strange. You still dare to keep me in the manor? Aren't you afraid that I might harm you?"
Xiao Han was caught off guard by her question and didn't know how to answer for a moment. After a slight hesitation, he said calmly, "I know you won't."
Long Chuqing hadn't expected his answer. He actually trusted her so much, without a single doubt! Considering her mysterious origins from the very beginning, yet he kept her in his mansion—wasn't he afraid of putting himself in danger?
She was at a loss for words, and felt inexplicably moved. She had originally planned to leave after the full moon.
But during the two days she disappeared, he searched for her aimlessly for two days. He didn't even know where she had gone, and he went to such remote places to look for her. At this moment, she was filled with mixed feelings.
Looking into his sincere eyes, I felt a little hesitant.
Well, I've eaten their food, lived in their house, and worn their clothes; I'll have to repay the favors I owe them eventually.
She decided to stay and help him detoxify. If she left now, no one would be able to cure his poison. She would wait until he recovered before leaving, so she wouldn't have any psychological burden when she left.
She put down her teacup and looked at the bewildered Xiao Han, saying, "Come here, give me your hand."
Xiao Han didn't know what she was going to do, but he did as she said and held out his hand to her.
Long Chuqing took his hand, placed her slender fingers on his pulse, and carefully took his pulse.
She lowered her head and listened carefully to her pulse, quickly calculating the cause of the illness and various treatment options in her mind.
Seeing her serious expression, Xiao Han simply watched her quietly without making a sound to disturb her.
After a while, Long Chuqing let go of his hand and explained the situation to him: "I originally planned to leave in a couple of days, but since you've been looking for me for two days, I've decided to stay and help you get rid of the Gu poison in your body. You won't suffer from the poison anymore, but it will take more than three months."
When Xiao Han heard her say she was leaving, his heart skipped a beat, as if he was about to lose something important.
A mix of emotions welled up inside him, and a sense of loss washed over him. Yes! One day she would leave. He nodded sadly.
Seeing his listless appearance, Long Chuqing chuckled and teased, "What's wrong? Feeling the pinch? I know my fees are a bit high, but the treatment is so effective! Just consider it money spent for peace of mind!"
Xiao Han smiled and replied, "Being able to joke around proves you're alright now." Though he smiled, he felt a sense of loss.
"Haha..." Long Chuqing chuckled and bent over.
Xiao Han looked at her anxiously and flusteredly. "What's wrong? Is something wrong?"
"It's nothing, it's nothing." Long Chuqing stopped chuckling, looked up at him, and said, "Alright, alright, I won't tease you anymore."
She looked down and saw the hairpin beside her pillow. She picked it up and examined it, feeling a surge of joy. It was more reassuring to have the hairpin in her hand.
"I'm going back to Qiushui Pavilion first. You should get some sleep! You look so tired."
She lifted the covers and moved to the edge of the bed to look for her shoes, but there was nothing on the floor; she couldn't find them.
Her shoes were soaked, so Xiao Han helped her take them off in the carriage.
"Your shoes are wet, and you didn't bring them back from the carriage." Xiao Han quickly explained when he saw her looking for her shoes, "I'll take you back." After saying that, he bent down and picked her up.
Long Chuqing was caught off guard when he suddenly picked her up. Ling Kongjian was startled and instinctively hugged his neck. The two looked at each other for a moment.
"I can walk back by myself," Long Chuqing said.
"The ground is cold, I'll take you back." After saying that, Xiao Han picked her up and went out the door.
The autumn night was already quite cold in the fourth watch of the night. The streetlights on the corridor had long been turned off, and as the weather grew colder, even the chirping of insects became less frequent. Only the two figures could be vaguely seen on the road.
Xiao Han carried her slowly on the way back to Qiushui Pavilion. The surroundings were pitch black and unusually quiet, and the sound of their heartbeats could be faintly heard.
Occasionally, a gentle evening breeze would blow by, and Long Chuqing, dressed in rather thin clothes, felt the chill seep into her body through the wide collar and cuffs.
"Achoo..." A crisp sound broke the silence of the night.
Long Chuqing glanced at him, smiled sheepishly, and said, "Um... it's windy and a bit cold." Then she lowered her head.
Sigh, she originally wanted to go back by herself; a few leaps across the rooftop would get her to Qiushui Pavilion. But he had already picked her up, so she couldn't say anything.
Xiao Han glanced down at her, said nothing, but simply pulled her closer to him.
The Qiushui Pavilion was pitch black. The lanterns under the eaves had long been extinguished. Granny Lin and Ziguang should be fast asleep at this time. The downstairs door was locked.
“We’ll have to climb up.” Long Chuqing looked up at the second floor and said to Xiao Han. “Put me down, I can go up by myself.”
"It's alright, I'll take you up." Xiao Han picked her up and leaped onto the second-floor balcony.
Xiao Han put her on the bed, lit a candle for her, and turned to say to her, "You get some rest, I'm going back now."
Long Chuqing nodded and responded softly, "Mm."
