Chapter 28 The Seven-Power Conference Convenes
For the first time, a shy blush appeared on the girl's tender face. Looking at her father and King Robert, both of them nodded with satisfaction, which meant that she could go out to play from now on.
Celine bowed to Bai Ze again, then turned to Robert and her father, saying, "I no longer feel the gray scales slowly growing, and I've regained sensation in places I previously had no feeling for." Everyone present could hear the girl's happy tone and was pleased for Celine.
Just then, Robert felt someone tugging at his sleeve and saw Renly sitting on the bed, looking at him with shining eyes, pointing to his face and then to Bai Ze.
Stannis, who was standing nearby, also saw Renly's actions and said with exasperation:
"Ranley! How long are you going to be so childish! Lord Bai Ze forbids the use of the precious Kiss of Light on Renley (Goodness! He's already come up with a name for Remy's Kiss so quickly!) Let his scars speak for their stupidity!"
Renly shrank back, not daring to look up at anyone, after being scolded by his stern and cold brother. Robert, equally annoyed, said to him:
"Alright, Lanli, it's already quite an achievement that we were able to save you from the wildfire. Let's talk about it again when you've truly matured and shown us your maturity!"
You should rest well. Although your injuries are almost healed, you still need to rest properly. Once you can control your burned legs and arms, go and report to Lord Ned to begin learning about government affairs.
The Seven Kingdoms will be very busy during this time. After we finish dealing with things in the city, we'll have to head north to the Wall to fight those damned White Walkers. There's no time for us to play!
After Robert finished speaking, he walked outside, and the rest of us followed. Ned Stark, who was at the back, walked up to Renly, patted his uninjured right shoulder, and said...
"Get some rest and get well soon!"
He followed us out of the room. Inside, Lan Li knew that he had truly disappointed his two older brothers this time. His eagerness for quick success had led him to make a big mistake.
Robert, who was in the corridor, was also busy. He said to Ned and Stannis behind him, "After the Conference of the Seven Kingdoms is over, we must select the best knights and elite troops to go to the North as soon as possible. We can't wait any longer about the White Walkers. This time, we must let the Seven Kingdoms know what's beyond the Wall. We can't let our kingdoms suffer while they reap the benefits!"
Ned and Stannis, who were behind him, both responded, "Yes!"
"Stannis, you must oversee the arrangements for the tournament venue and personnel, and cooperate with Ser Barristan to manage the outsiders. We can't let King's Landing descend into chaos again!"
"I understand, I will pay attention!"
The group chatted as they walked to the fork in the road, then returned to their rooms to rest. The day's events had left everyone exhausted, and after a good rest, they prepared for what lay ahead.
Back in his room, Stannis was happy to see his daughter had returned to normal. At that moment, Celine stepped forward and said to her father, "Father, I want to go to Lord Bai Ze's side. I want to serve him!"
The girl's startling words startled Stannis, but instead of immediately refusing, he slowly considered the feasibility of the matter.
The mysterious Lord Bai Ze possesses the Kiss of Light, a divine artifact capable of curing Grayscale, and can also produce vast quantities of equipment and weapons comparable to Valyrian steel. If I could use my daughter to create a connection with Lord Bai Ze, perhaps there would be a chance in the future...
Robert has no children right now, so if I could...
Stannis looked at his daughter and said, "I agree to your request. I will ask Lord Bai Ze later. If he agrees, you can go and serve him."
Celine looked at her father, who was listening to her opinion for the first time, and happily said to him:
"Thank you, Father. I will wait for Lord Bai Ze's reply. It's alright if he doesn't agree."
…
Upon receiving the raven's letter, each territory began summoning its lords and knights, informing them to prepare for a meeting and tournament in King's Landing. The rewards for the tournament were also announced, making all the factions who knew the news extremely eager to participate.
Good heavens! When did King Robert, who was previously heavily in debt, become so generous, offering Valyrian steel weapons and armor sets as tournament rewards!
This makes people's previous impressions of Robert somewhat inconsistent with their current one.
However, the knights and lords with real skills didn't think that far ahead. They were just focused on participating well in the competition and trying to win a set of armor or a sword, so that they could be considered as a family or knight with a family heirloom!
After packing their bags, all parties set off for King's Landing. This time, they were all running incredibly fast, afraid that if they were late, all the treasures would be gone and they wouldn't get any. This was a stark contrast to when Robert announced to the world that they should come to the aid of the king and destroy the Lannister family!
After a week of intense preparations, King's Landing prepared the arena for the tournament.
The lords, knights, and swordsmen of the five kingdoms arrived in King's Landing one after another.
The Reach, led by "Queen of Thorns" Olenna Redwyn, includes Lord Mace Tyrell, his second son Ser Garan Tyrell, and key members and family knights from House Hightower in Oldtown and House Redwyn on Greentree Island.
Lord Edmure Tully of the Riverlands, along with Brynden Tully the Blackfish and other few of his retainers and family knights who had survived the great war with the Lannisters, arrived in King's Landing.
Dorne was led by Prince Doran Namelos Martell and Prince Oberyn Martell, along with family members including Prince Quentin Martell, Ser Manfred Martell, House Elion of Divine Favor, House Dart of Lemongro, and a host of vassals and knights who also arrived in King's Landing.
Lysa Tully and some of her family members arrived in King's Landing from the Vale. Robert Arryn also left the Eyrie for the first time, following his mother out of the Vale.
Because of Baelish's instigation, Lysa Tully poisoned her husband. She didn't want to come, but considering that King Robert had regained the throne, refusing the king's order at this time might not be good for the Vale. So she reluctantly brought her son and her family's vassals and knights to King's Landing.
After all the lords and nobles of the seven kingdoms had arrived, Robert announced that a meeting of the seven kingdoms would be held at the Red Keep the next day. After the meeting, a tournament would be held the following day to select new knights. At the end, a knighthood ceremony would be held together with the investiture ceremony of the new king of the Westerlands, and knights would be bestowed with swords and armor. Those who already had titles and won the tournament would also be presented with corresponding swords and armor by the king!
The next morning, lords from all over gathered at Red Keep. Once everyone was present, they waited for the rulers of the seven kingdoms, their kings, to arrive.
At that moment, the door behind the Iron Throne opened, and Ser Barristan Selmy, the new Commander-in-Chief of the Kingsguard, stepped forward and called out loudly:
"Welcome to the King of the Andals, the Rhoynar, and the First Men, the Ruler of the Seven Kingdoms and Protector of the Realm. His Majesty Robert Baratheon, Founder of the Baratheon Dynasty!"
Everyone stood up, bowed, and greeted the king.
Robert, dressed in the Legacy of War Goddess's Dark Steel Chainmail, over which was a royal robe and a red cloak, strode confidently to the Iron Throne and addressed the assembled crowd: "Rise and take your seats!" He then sat down on the Iron Throne.
After everyone was seated, Robert began the meeting. "I've gathered you all here in King's Landing to tell you something very important, and to make sure you understand its significance! The White Walkers beyond the Wall have awakened!"
Apart from a few who already knew the news, most of those present, from the Reach and Dorne, were unaware of it. Prince Doran Nemelos Martell of Dorne was the first to speak, asking:
"Your Majesty, is the news true? Is there any evidence?"
Robert waved for his guards to bring the White Walker's severed head, and immediately opened the box to show it to everyone.
Prince Doran Nemerlos Martell stood up on the spot when he saw the White Walker's head; he never expected that it would actually appear!
Robert, seeing the growing agitation among the lords, said:
"This is the head of the First Men White Ze, who was about to be appointed as the new Lord of the Westerlands, which he personally cut off after fighting the White Walkers outside the Wall. I learned all the news there after my second trip north to Winterfell."
My lords, winter is coming!
"The long night is approaching. During my two journeys north, I could clearly feel the temperature dropping in the North. Most of the North has already suffered a crop failure, indicating that the cold is gradually moving south. If we cannot defeat the White Walkers and the darkness and magic they bring, in the end, the entire continent of Westeros will cease to exist, and we will all become the wight army under their command!"
Robert scanned the thoughtful crowd and then said:
"This matter concerns all of us. If something goes wrong, none of us can escape. That's why this Seven Kingdoms Conference and Martial Arts Tournament were convened for this purpose. After the tournament, I will personally lead the selected continental elites north to fight against the White Walkers' southward advance!"
Robert didn't give anyone time to think it over, and continued:
"Next, let Lord Bai Ze explain the situation of the White Walkers in detail so that everyone has a clear understanding."
After Robert finished speaking, he turned to look at Bai Ze, who stood up, gestured to Robert, and then addressed everyone:
"The Others are a mysterious, extremely cold creature from the land of eternal winter in the far north. They are a legendary, mysterious race from the time of the ancient people and the children of the forest."
They wreaked havoc and war across Westeros, a war we call the "Long Night." The White Walkers are immortal; they can control the corpses of the dead, turning them into more wights. The only way to truly kill them is to completely burn the bodies.
At this moment, someone couldn't help but ask, "Lord Bai Ze, this is the method for killing ghouls, but what about the Others? How did you cut off the heads of the First Men's Others?"
Bai Ze looked at the guy who asked the question and replied with a smile, "Good question. This is why His Majesty Robert convened this tournament. The best weapon to kill the First Men and the White Walkers is Valyrian steel!"
However, Valyrian steel weapons are extremely rare on the continent, hence King Robert's Sword Tournament. The weapons and armor offered in this tournament are of the same quality as Valyrian steel; it was this very weapon that I used to kill the First Men and the White Walkers. I fought a fierce battle with one of them in the snowy plains before finally beheading him!
"But I want to remind everyone here that you shouldn't think that you can fight the White Walkers head-on just because you have a sword. The White Walkers' skin and their icy weapons are all enchanted. If you touch their weapons or skin, you can turn into an ice sculpture in just a few seconds!"
This is what I witnessed firsthand when the White Walkers were killed. A White Walker's ice spear pierced the leg of a Wall Ranger, and within seconds he was turned into an ice sculpture!
Bai Ze, seeing the joy on the faces of the crowd upon hearing that the weapon could kill the White Walkers, gave them another popsicle!
"But! Don't forget, the rewards for today's tournament aren't just weapons! Look at His Majesty! His armor is made of Valyrian steel too!"
Bai Ze unleashed his final trump card. He was determined to catch the experts from all the territories off guard, hehe~
All eyes turned to King Robert, and sure enough, they saw a set of exquisitely crafted armor beneath his ceremonial robes, unlike the usual full plate armor and chainmail. Duke Mace Tyrell spoke up and asked:
"Your Majesty! Are you also wearing Valyrian steel armor? Is it also one of the rewards offered at the tournament?"
