Chapter 101 A Priest Appears in the Snow Mountain Fortress
The author has reworked the Snow Mountain Goblin Paladin plot, resulting in slight discrepancies from the original story. Please forgive any inconvenience to those who have read the original manga and the Goblin Slayer special. The author expresses sincere gratitude!
After Bai Ze and his group had stayed in Snow Village for two days and gained another pound, the snow outside had frozen solid enough to pass through, and Bai Ze proposed to lead the group away.
The five members of the Thousand Gold Swordsman Squad had been eating and drinking for free with Bai Ze for several days, so they had no reason to refuse Bai Ze's suggestion and immediately nodded in agreement.
Before leaving, Bai Ze used gold coins to purchase a batch of snow sheep from Snow Village, which was considered a legitimate transaction. He cleared out half of Snow Village's snow sheep inventory and happily led everyone away from Snow Village.
On the second night after everyone rested, Bai Ze summoned Xiao Meng from his spatial dimension to learn that she had released Ya Lei Jia to explore the snow mountain fortress. Having gathered detailed information, Bai Ze was not afraid of getting lost and led everyone into the mountain.
Along the way, Bai Ze carefully explained to the five Thousand Gold Swordsmen the various precautions for dealing with monsters. Bai Ze had learned a lot while doing quests with Goblin Slayer at the border outpost.
The five swordsmen, recalling their encounter with the goblin, excitedly followed its trail into the mountains.
The five people didn't consider whether the goblin cave entrance they had discovered was the only exit, how familiar they were with the mountain forest, or how many types and numbers of monsters there were in the mountains.
The five swordsmen recalled their recklessness; if Bai Ze and his companions hadn't arrived in time, none of them would have made it back.
On the way into the mountains, Bai Ze would occasionally dart out and kill several of the demon's sentries. The Thousand Gold Swordsmen and the others also studied and observed the appearance of the sentries made by the demons, memorizing them so that they would not know or recognize them if they encountered them again in the future.
The closer they got to the snow mountain fortress, the more sentries the monsters would gather. But this was no challenge for Bai Ze, who had a god-like perspective. He found an easy path to the fortress, killed the sentries along the way, and made his way to the outer perimeter of the snow mountain fortress.
Because it was daytime, most goblins hid inside the fortress to avoid the wind and snow, but some goblins were still performing shamanistic rituals in the fortress courtyard, led by a goblin shaman.
Bai Ze led everyone to observe the scene in the courtyard until the goblin shaman raised the spliced magic wand in his hand and mumbled something. A group of goblin imps excitedly ran back into the fortress and dragged out three people who were tightly bound!
Judging from their appearance, there were two mortals, a man and a woman. One of them was a half-forest male. The goblin shaman took a red-hot branding iron from the brazier and directed the goblin imp to pull off the mortal man's clothes and swiftly brand his back.
The mortal man screamed in agony as the branding iron burned him. The goblin shaman checked the integrity of the mark on the man's back and then had the imp goblin drag the mortal man into a pre-drawn array.
The goblin shaman began singing incomprehensible songs and performing a ritual dance. After a short while, the man with the mark on his back began to shrink, and a surge of energy flowed out of the man's body and entered the goblin shaman's body.
Seeing the shamanic ritual succeed, the goblin imps around him excitedly surrounded the shaman, spitting out their saliva, shouting, and jumping!
The goblin shaman roared a few times, and several goblin leaders or captains who had been chosen earlier stepped forward and stood in a row in front of the goblin shaman.
The goblin shaman manipulated the energy he had absorbed from the mortal man's body, chanting incomprehensible incantations as he divided the energy into three parts and randomly sent them into the bodies of three goblins standing in front of him.
The three goblin leaders, having absorbed the energy, began to change. Their height began to increase slowly, their muscles increased, and their bent legs began to straighten gradually.
In less than the time it takes to drink a cup of tea, the three little goblin leaders grew from 80 or 90 centimeters to about 1.3 or 1.4 meters tall.
Seeing the transformation of the three humanoid goblins, the goblin 'shaman' nodded in satisfaction and let out a strange laugh...
The surrounding goblin imps were also thrilled. They knew that as long as this goblin 'shaman' was around, all the goblins of their race would eventually evolve into an even more threatening race!
The three goblin leaders, who had completed their evolution or mutation, observed each other's physical condition, brandished their weapons, and jumped a few times on the spot. The new changes in their bodies made the three 'humanoid' goblins overjoyed.
The three 'humanoid' goblins patted each other's arms and bodies, and the little goblins around them excitedly surrounded them and stroked their bodies;
One of the 'humanoid' goblins easily picked up a small goblin next to it, laughing wildly as it displayed its current power. The sound of the monsters' laughter shook the snowflakes on the walls of the snow mountain fortress and they began to fall.
Bai Ze and his group, who were secretly watching from the mountain, were all shocked. The goblin tribe had actually evolved a goblin priest!
This is an even more dangerous character than a goblin shaman. If the adventurers hadn't discovered this place in time, they could have easily sacrificed themselves to this goblin for a while.
The goblins have captured a large number of other races in the surrounding area, and the goblin population in Snow Mountain Fortress may all complete their 'evolution' and become a new goblin species, whose threat to the kingdom's human society will be self-evident.
The swordsman watched as the goblin below frantically ran to the mortal woman and dragged her to the goblin priest, preparing for the priest to begin a new branding sacrifice ritual.
"We can't wait any longer. We must deal with the goblins here as soon as possible. If we let them grow, the consequences will be unimaginable!"
The impetuous swordswoman spoke without any regard for her voice, and the goblin archers on the fortress wall heard it clearly. They turned their heads and easily spotted the blonde swordswoman not far away, following the direction of the sound.
With a roar, the goblin archer sounded the alarm and fired an arrow at the Thousand Gold Swordsman!
Bai Ze sighed and tapped the Thousand Gold Swordsman's forehead with his finger, then drew his sword and charged forward.
"I'll punish you when we get back!"
Bai Ze casually deflected the incoming arrow with his sword and unleashed a "Silver Light Falling Blade" towards the courtyard.
Misha's figure appeared behind the goblin archer on the city wall at some unknown time. With a dagger, the goblin archer's head, with its large mouth and drool dripping, fell into the courtyard.
Aying also charged into the goblin archers on the city wall from another direction. She unleashed her Ghost Binding Silk, and the String Storm swept up all the goblin archers around the city wall.
In an instant, all the goblin archers on half of the city wall were turned into minced meat and sent flying into the sky with the wind and snow.
Raphael, as usual, raised his hand and cast the double blessings of protection and courage on all his teammates, and also gave the Thousand Gold Swordsman team a protective barrier.
"Be careful when you kill the enemy, go!"
The Thousand Gold Swordsman knew he had messed up, and now he had no choice but to fight and eliminate the goblins inside the fortress!
The swordsman drew his family heirloom sword, leaped onto the city wall, and charged through the passage cleared by Ah Ying into the open space inside the fortress.
"Oh!"
The three successfully evolved 'humanoid' goblins were thinking of showing off their new bodies to the little goblins around them. The three goblins spotted the spot where Bai Ze was about to land and attacked.
As a result, Bai Ze's landing attack instantly flattened the fastest 'humanoid' goblin, and the other two were also blown away by the shockwave. While the 'humanoids' were still in the air, Bai Ze swept his sword and cut the two flying 'humanoid' goblins into 'four'.
The goblin priest watched as the new individual he had personally 'evolved' was instantly chopped up and chopped into pieces by Bai Ze;
The goblin priest let out a heart-wrenching, terrified roar and tried to escape, but Bai Ze activated his Lingbo Weibu (a martial arts technique) and, without using any skills, easily cut down the group of goblin minions that were attacking him.
Bai Ze watched the direction the goblin priest fled in, and with two teleportations, he stood in front of the goblin priest. The goblin priest felt the wind movement when Bai Ze passed by, and the moment he turned around, he bumped into Bai Ze's leg and was bounced back to the ground.
The goblin priest straightened up from his lying position and looked up to see Bai Ze smiling at him. Without even turning his head, he casually swung his sword and sliced off two goblin imps that jumped up from behind to try and sneak up on him.
"Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!"
As a magic unit, the Goblin Priest's attack methods are basically similar to those of the Goblin Shaman, and its physical abilities are only slightly stronger than those of the Imp Goblin.
The goblin priest looked at Bai Ze standing in front of him and couldn't muster any desire to attack. He was so frightened that he even forgot that he could cast spells.
Bai Ze stepped forward and swung his sword horizontally and vertically, causing the goblin priest's legs and right hand, which held the staff, to leave the body that usually commanded them.
The blade was too sharp, and the cold wind blew onto the goblin priest's wound. Only after the gushing blood was covered with ice flowers did the goblin priest realize that he only had his left hand left.
"what!!!"
A heart-wrenching scream of pain came from the goblin priest. Bai Ze picked up a goblin spear from the ground, turned the spearhead around, and struck the goblin priest on the back of the head with the shaft.
The silencing was successful. Bai Ze picked up the half-goblin priest, pierced the goblin priest's clothes with a spear, and nailed it to a pillar in the courtyard.
Looking at the mottled marks and dried bloodstains of varying shades on the pillar, Bai Ze realized what the pillar used to be for.
Sword in hand, he charged back into the goblin horde. The goblins lurking inside the fortress were all awakened by Bai Ze's first wave of landing attacks and the shouts of the goblin priest. Goblins roaring as they poured out of the several doorways.
Bai Ze waved his hand and Mengmeng appeared behind him. Mengmeng looked at the many goblins, and without saying a word, she mounted her broom and began to unleash her skills.
Flying above the goblin horde, the anti-gravity device was activated, sending all the charging goblin troops within range flying away with strange cries.
The lava potion landed, and a magical acid rain cloud appeared above the goblin's head. Mengmeng flew over the lava potion's damage zone and added another electric eel collision machine.
The five swordsmen watched from the outside as one teammate after another suddenly appeared beside Bai Ze, all of them filled with questions.
"Where did these people come from? Weren't there only Lord Bai Ze, Sister Raphael, and Sister Yu Yan at the beginning?"
"Where did this elven girl, who flies in the sky and instantly casts area-of-effect spells without chanting any incantations, come from?"
"What amazing magic skills! The speed of her attack is incredible. Is that her staff? A large red calligraphy brush?"
The five swordsmen all raised different questions, and Mengmeng's skills covered several of the fortress gates where goblins came and went;
Aying and Misha stood at the two entrances on the second floor of the fortress, clearing out the goblin archers that kept popping up.
Bai Ze casually dealt with a few goblin babies who were still immature and hiding in the corner. These were the result of the goblins' misdeeds and could not be allowed to live.
While the goblins were focused on Bai Ze and Mengmeng, Raphael and Yu Yan rescued the tightly bound mortal woman and half-forest man, both of whom were adventurers from the same team.
Deceived by the cunning goblins using a method similar to that used to capture the thousand-gold swordsman team, the bronze-ranked shield-swordsman leading the team was ambushed and killed, and the dwarf shaman in the team also did not survive.
The remaining three were all injured and captured, and unexpectedly became test subjects for the evolved goblin priest.
Raphael healed the mortal woman's leg and the half-forest's back. With tears of excitement and gratitude in their eyes, the two stood up and looked at Mengmeng, who was displaying her divine power in the open space of the fortress.
"Yah ho!!!"
"Ah da!"
The modified magic missile darted wildly through the goblin horde. Two goblins, huddled together trying to get out of the first-level entrance, were stopped coming out after Mengmeng threw in two lava potions.
Screams echoed from inside the doorway; who knows how many goblins were crammed in there? Now they were all adults.
Magic skills can be used like this!
The two rescued individuals and the five-person team of the Thousand Gold Swordsmen were taken aback by Mengmeng's actions, and the icy air on the snowy mountain made them shiver.
Bai Ze walked up to the five swordsmen, pointed to the doorway behind him where the goblin had just dragged out three bound men, and said:
"Go inside and check; there should still be captured people or adventurers inside."
Bai Ze deliberately let Mengmeng unleash her skills in another direction because he saw that the captured people were being held in the doorway behind them.
Bai Ze has already killed all the goblins around the doorway where the prisoners are being held, so there is no danger in letting the Thousand Gold Swordsmen and the others go in to rescue them.
Upon hearing Bai Ze say that there might still be people inside the cave, the five swordsmen immediately turned around and headed into the cave.
Inside the cave, several naked human women huddled together amidst piles of weeds and furs, while on the other side, several figures, still wearing makeshift protective gear and covered in wounds, were tightly bound and carelessly left aside.
The Thousand Gold Swordsman and the Half-Forest Female Swordsman glared at each other with fury. Raphael patted the Thousand Gold Swordsman on the shoulder from behind and handed him several sets of thick winter clothes.
The Thousand Gold Swordsman and the Half-Forest Female Swordsman bowed to Raphael in gratitude, carrying the clothes. The two walked to the shivering women, and the Half-Forest Female Swordsman began to distribute the clothes to them.
The swordsman drew his family heirloom sword and casually cut the cheap iron chains the goblin had tied to the women's wrists and ankles. He then helped the trembling girls dress.
The three male teammates of the Thousand Gold Swordsman cut the ropes and led the people tied up in the corner out of the room, leaving the girls inside the room alone.
Raphael treated the injuries of the people who had come out from the doorway one by one. After the injuries of everyone at the doorway had been treated, Raphael also went into the room of the murdered girls.
Nine girls, dressed and rescued from the pile of weeds and furs by the Thousand Gold Swordsman and the Half-Forest Female Swordsman, were rescued. Three of them were captured female adventurers, and six were captured civilian women.
Raphael looked at the women who were dressed, hugging their own legs, their eyes vacant, squatting on the ground trembling;
"Ode to New Life!"
Holy light, dispelling all abnormalities and healing all wounds, shone down from above the women, while the green fluorescent light on the floor, restoring life, surrounded the injured girls.
The women's bodies, ravaged by the goblins, began to heal from the inside out, and the turbid fluid injected into their bodies by the goblins was completely purified.
Slowly, the injured women regained some spirit, and their bodies stopped trembling.
The swordswoman stared wide-eyed at the miracle before her. She had just noticed when she was dressing a girl that the trembling girl had burn scars on half of her body and half of her face.
After Raphael unleashed his skill, the scars on the girl's face slowly faded and eventually disappeared completely!
"By the Earth Mother Goddess!"
The astonished swordswoman and the half-forest female swordswoman had never seen such a miracle released so casually.
The injured women looked at Raphael, who had healed them. Raphael was radiating light, and the women recognized him as the Earth Mother Goddess descending upon them.
…
Bai Ze ignored Raphael's treatment of the injured girls; his gaze remained fixed on a direction on the third level of the fortress.
An individual radiating immense blood energy was watching the fortress grounds from a window on the third floor of the fortress. Bai Ze knew that this must be the goblin paladin who commanded the Snow Mountain Fortress.
I wonder if the Goblin Paladin, without the sword in the hands of the Thousand Gold Swordsman, can still unleash his full strength and make Bai Ze happy. Since coming to Goblin Slayer, Bai Ze has never encountered a monster with such skill.
That 'pseudo-troll king' who was infused with energy wasn't actually that good. I wonder how this goblin paladin will fare. I'm really looking forward to it.
