Quick Transmigration: I'm the Villain's Assistant to the Protagonist
Chapter 70 Exploring the Ancient Tomb 8
They pressed on, the deep roar growing ever clearer, as if it were right next to their ears.
A pungent, fishy stench filled the passage, making one's stomach churn. The torch in Zhou Yifeng's hand flickered, as if it might go out at any moment.
Suddenly, a pair of enormous red eyes appeared ahead, gleaming menacingly in the darkness. Everyone gasped, their steps involuntarily halting.
"What kind of monster is this?" Lin Shuang's voice was filled with despair.
Zhou Yifeng gripped his weapon tightly, ready to respond to the monster's attack at any moment. Just then, the monster burst out of the darkness, revealing its ferocious face.
This is a gigantic monster covered in sharp spikes, spewing out a cloud of black smoke from its mouth.
"Scatter!" Zhou Yifeng shouted.
The crowd scattered and fled, while Zhou Yifeng charged toward the monster, trying to distract it and buy time for the others.
Enraged by Zhou Yifeng, the monster relentlessly pursued him. Zhou Yifeng ran while dodging the monster's attacks, his clothes torn in several places.
Shen Ying called out anxiously, "Zhou Yifeng, be careful!"
Xu Jiayi and Su Yuze also stopped and tried to find the monster's weakness.
Chen Xue hid in the corner, trembling with fear.
Lin Shuang shouted, "Attack with all your might!"
Zhou Yifeng brandished his longsword, its blade gleaming coldly in the firelight. He mustered all his strength and slashed fiercely at the monster, the sword wind whistling and carrying a sharp momentum.
Xu Jiayi was no longer afraid. She raised the wooden stick in her hand and smashed it hard against the monster's body.
Lin Shuang drew her bowstring taut, and arrow after arrow shot towards the monster like meteors.
Holding a short knife, Shen Ying nimbly weaved among her teammates, seizing the opportunity to stab the monster while simultaneously shouting warnings: "Watch out to the left!" "Watch out behind you!"
The monster roared in pain, opening its gaping maw and spewing out a stream of black flames, instantly turning the surrounding air scorching hot.
At this critical moment, Su Yuze quickly threw out a homemade smoke bomb, which instantly enveloped the monster in smoke and severely impaired its vision.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, everyone launched an even fiercer attack. Zhou Yifeng's sword pierced the monster like lightning, Xu Jiayi's wooden stick struck incessantly, Lin Shuang's arrows never stopped, and Shen Ying's short knife was constantly searching for the monster's weaknesses.
Finally, with everyone working together, the monster could not withstand the attack and retreated repeatedly.
Seeing that things were not going well, the monster turned and fled into the darkness.
"Stop chasing, let's keep going." Zhou Yifeng said, panting heavily.
After tidying up their equipment, they continued to explore and move forward in this unknown passage.
The group then encountered several more monsters, which were all strangely shaped.
Some resemble giant lizards with wings that make a whooshing sound when they flap, and their sharp claws are terrifying; others resemble giant toads covered in bumps, whose bumpy skin is creepy to look at, and whose bulging eyes seem ready to spit venom at any moment, making people's hearts tremble.
But these monsters act like guerrillas, popping up every now and then to cause trouble.
They either lunged at everyone menacingly or spewed out poisonous mist to try and obstruct their vision.
But faced with the tacit cooperation and powerful counterattack of the six-person team, these monsters usually ran away after a brief confrontation, as if they had just come out to play and then left after being dealt with by the six-person team, as if it were a joke.
Compared to before, this journey was smoother, but Zhou Yifeng, walking beside Shen Ying, seemed to be protected by a curse.
As they were walking, Zhou Yifeng suddenly slipped and fell into a hidden hole, startling Shen Ying into screaming.
Fortunately, the hole wasn't deep, and the group quickly pulled him up, but he was covered in dirt and looked utterly disheveled.
After walking only a few steps, Zhou Yifeng tripped over a vine that suddenly appeared and fell face-first into the mud.
He had just gotten up and hadn't even had a chance to brush the dust off himself when a huge spider swept over his head. The spider silk smeared his face, wrapping him up like a dumpling, with only his two eyes sticking out and blinking. He looked absolutely ridiculous.
Upon seeing this, everyone burst into laughter.
Zhou Yifeng helplessly ripped the spider silk off his face and said with a wry smile, "What did I do to deserve this? Why do all the bad luck happen to me?"
Just then, a monster that looked like a pangolin or a hedgehog rushed out. Zhou Yifeng tried to swing his sword to block it, but unexpectedly, the sword got stuck in a crevice in the rock and he couldn't pull it out no matter what he did.
Shen Ying quickly helped, and with great difficulty they managed to get the sword out, allowing Zhou Yifeng to repel the monster.
While laughing at Zhou Yifeng's "wonderful" experience, everyone continued to move forward cautiously.
The passageway grew narrower, and the faint light struggled to pierce the darkness.
Zhou Yifeng walked ahead, his torch flickering as he kept a close eye on his surroundings and any potential traps or mechanisms.
"Watch your step, everyone. There seem to be a lot of potholes here," Zhou Yifeng warned, his voice echoing through the narrow passage.
Everyone held their breath and took careful steps.
Suddenly, a cool breeze blew by, carrying a strange fragrance, faint yet lingering around the tip of the nose.
"This smell is off; it might be the volatilization of some kind of chemical substance," Xu Jiayi sniffed and quickly analyzed.
"I don't know, but it feels unusual." Su Yuze narrowed his eyes, cautiously observing his surroundings, and gripped the specially modified weapon he had made.
They continued forward, and there before them appeared a narrow and steep staircase, winding upwards, as if it were a passage leading to a mysterious place.
“Structurally, the way this staircase was built conforms to a certain ancient style, and perhaps this is the path to the fourth floor,” Lin Shuang said.
The group began to climb the stairs, taking each step with extra care, afraid that they might slip and fall if they weren't careful.
Zhou Yifeng was walking at the front when he suddenly heard a creaking sound. He immediately stopped and signaled everyone to be quiet.
Everyone held their breath, waiting quietly, their hearts pounding in their chests. After a while, when nothing happened, they continued climbing.
Finally, they reached the top of the stairs, where a tightly closed stone door appeared before them.
The door was tall and heavy, exuding an ancient and mysterious aura, and was covered with strange symbols and patterns.
Zhou Yifeng stepped forward, placed his hands on the door, and tried to push it, but the door did not budge.
"Let me see, there might be a secret in the structure of this door." Chen Xue leaned closer and began to examine the area around the door.
The group began searching for clues to open the door, and Xu Jiayi found some small writing on a stone next to the door.
"Come quick, there seems to be a clue here," Xu Jiayi shouted.
Everyone quickly gathered around and studied the stone door together, hoping to find a way to open it.
Everyone quickly gathered around, their eyes fixed on the small print.
Su Yuze carefully observed the arrangement and shape of the characters, gently tracing them with his fingers while muttering to himself, "This seems to be some kind of ancient encrypted script."
Chen Xue squatted by the door, gently touching the edges and gaps with her hands, and muttered to herself, "The material and structure of this door are very special. Perhaps the mechanism to open it is around here."
Lin Shuang stood aside, recalling similar patterns and symbols she had seen in archaeological documents, and said, "I think I have seen a similar record in an ancient book, but I still need to think about the specific interpretation."
Zhou Yifeng held up a torch to illuminate the surroundings, making it easier for everyone to see, while also keeping a watchful eye on his surroundings in case of any unexpected situations.
Xu Jiayi took a small notebook and wrote down small notes, trying to analyze the information that might be hidden in it.
Su Yuze paced back and forth, pondering, "If it's a mechanical device, could it be similar to the ones we've encountered before?"
Everyone was expressing their opinions and the discussion was in full swing.
Shen Ying also curiously reached out to touch the stone door. As soon as her hand touched the cold stone surface, there was a "click" sound, and the stone door moved.
Immediately afterwards, the stone gate began to tremble slowly, as if a long-dormant beast had been awakened, and dust fell from its surface.
Everyone fell silent instantly, looking at Shen Ying with confusion.
"Shen Ying, what did you do?" Zhou Yifeng asked, his brows furrowed.
"I...I just touched it once," Shen Ying said innocently.
Everyone quickly became alert and stepped back slightly.
The atmosphere became extremely tense. No one knew what lay behind the stone door or what dangers lay ahead.
