Quick Transmigration: I'm the Villain's Assistant to the Protagonist
Chapter 46 The Real World (1)
Even after Huo Yuan finally returned to normal, he couldn't forget the foolish behavior he had displayed these past few days, as if he were possessed. Every time he thought about it, he wished he could travel back in time and knock his past self unconscious.
At this moment, filled with remorse, he carefully comforted his beloved, Hylia, his eyes brimming with regret and self-reproach.
Hylia understood the reason behind it all and naturally wouldn't blame him. She knew Huo Yuan hadn't done it intentionally, and her heart was full of understanding and tolerance for him. The two quickly resumed their usual affectionate behavior, their eyes only for each other.
The little sea turtle Shen Ying ignored this, since her beloved mermaid prince didn't seem to care about it either.
Everything proceeded as usual. The mermaid prince continued to work methodically, diligently and attentively; he ate his three meals a day as usual; and at night, he slept peacefully. There was no turmoil caused by love turning into hate, as depicted in the game's storyline.
The Mermaid Palace.
The little sea turtle, Shen Ying, slowly woke up. In the room, the bioluminescent algae emitted a soft and gentle glow. She peeked out from her cozy little nest covered with seaweed, but couldn't find the mermaid prince on his large bed. She rubbed her sleepy eyes, slowly swam out of her little nest, and left the mermaid prince's room.
The moment she swam out of the room, an eerie silence enveloped her. The once bustling mermaid palace was now deserted and utterly silent. She swam through the long corridor, the mother-of-pearl in the walls emitting a faint glow, but it could not dispel the unsettling stillness.
She opened her eyes wide, looking around anxiously. Normally, this place was filled with the cheerful laughter of mermaids, maids flitting about gracefully, and servants standing respectfully to the side. But now, there was nothing there, only her lonely figure drifting aimlessly in the emptiness.
She swam through the magnificent hall, the dazzling crystal chandeliers still gleaming, but their light seemed so cold and distant. She continued forward, passing exquisite rooms, but the doors were tightly shut, and there was no sound.
The small sea creatures that usually played together were nowhere to be seen, as if the entire palace had been cursed by some terrible magic that had devoured all life.
"What's going on? Why is there no one here?" The little sea turtle Shen Ying's unease grew stronger. "Where is the prince? Where has everyone gone?" Her voice echoed in the empty palace, but received no response.
Fear and loneliness surged into her heart like a tide, along with feelings of helplessness and powerlessness.
The little sea turtle, Shen Ying, searched almost every place she could think of. She was filled with anxiety, worried about the safety of the mermaid prince and his companions.
Exhausted, she found herself drawn to the royal shrine. The moment she stepped inside, the sight before her made her gasp in shock.
The familiar mermaids, the beautiful maids, the majestic guards, the solemn chief sea steward, the noble king and queen, and Xu Xiaozhu, Hela... they all lay sprawled about, their fates unknown.
The entire temple was filled with a suffocating stench of blood, and at the altar stood a tall, slender figure. Her silver fishtail shimmered, beautiful and graceful, yet utterly incongruous with the carnage scattered around her.
Beneath him lay the mermaid princess Hela and Huo Yuan, lying in a pool of blood. The shocking red sight stung Shen Ying's eyes.
Seemingly sensing Shen Ying's quiet arrival, the all-too-familiar figure slowly turned around.
He gave Shen Ying a seemingly innocent smile, but in this extremely bloody and terrifying scene, the smile seemed to be twisted by darkness, so eerie and horrifying.
He seemed like a demon from the depths of hell, radiating endless evil and cruelty, sending chills down one's spine.
Just then, the system's voice suddenly rang in Shen Ying's mind: "Mission complete, exit the game."
As darkness engulfed her, Shen Ying thought: So today is the last day...
After leaving the game, Shen Ying indeed forgot her memories from the game again. Looking at the familiar neighborhood around her, she let out a soft breath. Dragging her tired body back to her apartment, she collapsed onto the bed and fell fast asleep almost immediately.
She woke up the next day feeling refreshed and energized, no longer experiencing the fatigue and depression she had felt earlier. She got ready and prepared to go to work.
When she arrived at the company, she had barely sat down at her desk and hadn't even gotten into work mode when a colleague deliberately tried to make things difficult for her. The colleague squinted at her and said sarcastically, "Oh, Shen Ying, you had a pretty good weekend, huh? You seem quite energetic. Have you forgotten all the work I assigned you?"
Shen Ying frowned slightly and said, "Weekends are supposed to be for rest, and I've already prepared for work." Her colleague scoffed and persisted, "Hmph, all you do is talk. You would have finished your work long ago if you had that kind of time."
Shen Ying took a deep breath, forcefully suppressing the pent-up frustration within her. As an ordinary clerk in the company, she often found herself in a busy, errand-running state, with all sorts of people assigning her all sorts of tasks without any regard for consequences.
However, Shen Ying quickly adjusted her mindset and became more composed. She knew very well that work, in the end, is about providing security and making life better, not about controlling everything in life.
Although my current job lacks a clear division of labor, and others might see me as an idle person with nothing to do all day, who can be bossed around at will, doesn't this also mean I'm exposed to more diverse types of work, thus greatly improving my ability to handle various complex tasks?
Shen Ying thought to herself like Ah Q, she was accumulating wealth while honing her skills, so it wasn't a bad deal!
She said to her colleague in a cool but firm tone, "I know the work is important, but you can't just criticize me without reason. I will complete the tasks assigned to me."
The colleague was somewhat dissatisfied with Shen Ying's attitude, and she raised her voice: "Oh, you're talking back? Your work attitude is problematic!"
At this moment, her colleagues all turned to look. Shen Ying remained calm and replied, "Everyone is watching. Right and wrong will be judged by history. I don't want to argue with you here and affect our work."
Seeing Shen Ying's determination, her colleague knew she was in the wrong, but still muttered, "Hmph, we'll see." Then she turned around and tried to return to her workstation.
"thump!"
"Ouch! It hurts!"
To everyone's surprise, as the colleague turned around, he suddenly seemed possessed, tripping over his own feet and losing his balance, falling flat on his face in an extremely awkward manner. This unexpected scene stunned everyone around him, and then several colleagues couldn't help but burst out laughing, their laughter sounding particularly jarring in the quiet office.
However, when everyone saw her pitiful state, the laughter stopped abruptly, and they were all stunned. Her colleague had knocked out her front tooth, her mouth was full of blood, and she looked rather comical. Some people couldn't help but want to laugh, but they held it in tightly, their faces turning red.
Other kind-hearted colleagues rushed over to help her, their faces full of concern.
With everyone's help, she struggled to her feet, her face filled with embarrassment and pain. Then, she sheepishly asked for leave to go see a dentist.
Seeing this unexpected incident, Shen Ying gently touched the totem on her chest. Strange? It felt warm there for a moment just now? Was it just her imagination? She carefully felt it again, but couldn't feel anything. Shaking her head, she composed herself and began to immerse herself in her work.
