Quick Transmigration: I'm the Villain's Assistant to the Protagonist
Chapter 130 Alien Invasion 7
Shen Ying sat on the edge of the bed, listening to Su Lan's familiar footsteps outside. Her heart tightened suddenly, and she subconsciously shrank back into the bed, her eyes looking towards the door with a hint of panic.
When Su Lan's footsteps stopped at the door, she held her breath, her hand unconsciously gripping the blanket tighter. She heard the doorknob turn, and quickly closed her eyes, trying to make her breathing even and slow, as if she were already fast asleep.
Su Lan gently pushed open the door and walked in, his gaze immediately falling on Shen Ying. Seeing her peacefully "asleep," he tiptoed to the bedside. Shen Ying could feel his gaze lingering on her face; that gaze seemed warm, making her heart beat faster involuntarily.
After a while, Su Lan sighed softly and turned to pack her things. Shen Ying secretly breathed a sigh of relief, but a complex emotion welled up inside her—a sense of helplessness towards her own avoidance and a touch of guilt towards Su Lan. She knew this couldn't go on, but the thought of leaving this world sooner or later made her steel herself and continue this avoidance.
That day, as Su Lan was preparing to go to the lab, she looked at Shen Ying as usual, hoping she would come along. However, Shen Ying's eyes darted away. She casually picked up a book and said, "I'm not going today. I want to stay here and read."
Su Lan frowned slightly and stepped forward to take her arm, but Shen Ying reacted as if she had been burned, quickly taking a step back to avoid his touch.
Su Lan's hand froze in mid-air, a hint of hurt flashing in her eyes: "What's wrong with you lately? Why are you always avoiding me?"
Shen Ying didn't dare look him in the eye and said softly, "It's nothing, you should go quickly, don't delay the research." After saying that, she turned her back to Su Lan, and only slowly turned around when she heard Su Lan's footsteps leaving, her eyes full of conflict.
"Boom!" The rusty door of the research institute was smashed open with a deafening sound, and a group of survivors rushed in like a tide.
"Quickly! Proceed according to plan!" a burly, sharp-eyed middle-aged man shouted in a low voice. The people around him quickly dispersed, their movements swift and orderly.
"Boss, is what we need really here?" a young man asked nervously as he ran.
“The intelligence is accurate. This used to be a military research institute, so there must be weapons and supplies here. This is our hope for survival,” the middle-aged man replied with a firm gaze.
"But what if we don't? We've lost several brothers along the way." A hint of sadness flashed in the young man's eyes.
"We still have to try. It's better than being wiped out by aliens outside." The middle-aged man clenched his fist.
They quickly took up advantageous positions, each gripping their homemade weapons tightly and warily scanning their surroundings. A tense atmosphere permeated the entire research institute's hall, as if the air itself had solidified.
At this moment, Shen Ying and Su Lan heard the commotion and rushed over. Upon seeing this group of uninvited guests, they immediately became alert.
The middle-aged man stepped forward, looked at Shen Ying and Su Lan, and said in a relatively calm tone: "We don't want to cause trouble, but there are too many aliens outside, and we need the resources here."
Shen Ying frowned: "This is our place, and we are fighting against the aliens. Resources are very important to us."
Su Lan said seriously from the side, "If they want to take it, we won't stand idly by."
The middle-aged man frowned, glanced back at his men, then looked at Shen Ying and her companion: "There's no time. The aliens are closing in. We need weapons, food, and medicine. You need to come up with a plan." At this moment, the atmosphere became increasingly tense, and the two sides faced off.
At that moment, an impatient young survivor actually shot an arrow at Shen Ying. Su Lan reacted extremely quickly; he lunged at Shen Ying and used his own body to block the arrow.
"Thud!" The arrow pierced deeply into Su Lan's back. He groaned and his face turned pale instantly.
"Su Lan!" Shen Ying cried out in terror, her eyes wide open, tears welling up in them. She hurriedly helped Su Lan up, but Su Lan was tall and she struggled for a moment.
Seeing this, the middle-aged leader hurriedly shouted, "What are you standing there for? Go help!" Several survivors rushed over. They found a dilapidated cart in the research institute, and together they carefully moved Su Lan onto the cart.
Despite being shot in the back, Su Lan endured the excruciating pain and used his remaining strength to cooperate with everyone. Every movement caused him to bulge veins on his forehead and break out in a cold sweat.
"Why did you shield me from the arrow? Do you think you're a shield?" Shen Ying's voice was choked with sobs, her heart filled with fear and self-blame.
Su Lan forced a smile and said weakly, "I can't let you get hurt."
Shen Ying turned her head and glared angrily at the young survivor who had shot the arrow, her eyes seemingly spitting fire: "Why did you do this? We could have talked things out!"
The young survivor looked utterly panicked, his eyes filled with fear and unease. His lips trembled, and his voice choked with sobs as he said, "I really didn't mean to, I was so nervous, I just... I didn't mean to..."
Before he could finish speaking, the bow in his hand fell to the ground with a clatter. He stood there dumbfounded, his body still trembling slightly.
The middle-aged leader looked guilty: "I'm sorry, this was an accident. We didn't come here to start a war."
Shen Ying paid no attention to their apologies; all she could think about was getting Su Lan to the lab as quickly as possible. She gripped the handle of the trolley tightly and rushed toward the lab. With each bumpy section, Su Lan would furrow his brow and break out in a cold sweat, but he remained silent.
Shen Ying pushed the cart frantically while nervously watching Su Lan, her mind a jumble of thoughts, muttering to herself. One moment she was blaming herself, "It's all my fault! If I had been more careful, you wouldn't have gotten hurt!" The next she was complaining, "What a mess! Heaven is blind!" Then she lamented, "How could this happen? This is incredibly unlucky!" And so, they struggled to make their way to the laboratory.
Shen Ying pushed Su Lan into the laboratory with great anxiety and quickly moved him to the operating table. Her hands trembled incessantly, but her eyes were extremely focused.
She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself, and then quickly rummaged through the cabinet for medical supplies. Finding disinfectant, tweezers, and bandages, she carefully cut open Su Lan's clothes at the back. Seeing the deeply embedded arrow, her eyes reddened again, but she fought back her tears and began treating the wound.
She first gently rinsed the area around the wound with disinfectant. Each touch made Su Lan's body tremble slightly. She said with heartache, "Bear with it, it'll be over soon." Then, she picked up the tweezers, gripped them tightly, and tried to steady her hand to grasp the arrow shaft. The moment the tweezers touched the arrow, Su Lan groaned. Shen Ying asked anxiously, "Does it hurt a lot? I'll try to be gentle."
With great difficulty, she managed to clamp the arrow shaft, biting her lip and using all her strength to quickly pull it out. Su Lan's forehead veins bulged with pain, and sweat poured down her face. As soon as the arrow was pulled out, blood gushed out. Shen Ying quickly pressed gauze against the wound to stop the bleeding, repeatedly chanting, "Don't be hurt, don't be hurt."
