"No need, the bus will be here soon."

"Get in the car, I'm going home and it'll be on my way to your place." Wu Xiaoran opened the car door.

Ding Le couldn't refuse any longer, so he got into Wu Xiaoran's car.

Wu Xiaoran glanced at her: "You must be bored going to and from get off work every day, want to go for a drive?"

"No need, I'm exhausted and just want to go back to sleep."

Wu Xiaoran smiled and said, "There aren't many girls who are so ready to go home these days. Could it be that your boyfriend is waiting for you at home?"

Ding Le's eyes dimmed, and her smile became somewhat unnatural. "I don't have a boyfriend yet."

No boyfriend?

Wu Xiaoran's eyes lit up, but her expression remained indifferent as she asked, "You're not getting any younger, aren't your family in a hurry?"

Ding Le shook his head: "I haven't had any family for a long time."

A hint of sympathy flashed across Wu Xiaoran's face, and a touch of warmth appeared in her eyes. "I'm sorry, I didn't know."

"It's nothing, I've gotten used to it over the years. Being alone is fine, I can do whatever I want."

After a pause, Wu Xiaoran said, "Are you free this weekend? I'd like to treat you to dinner."

Ding Le was taken aback, blinked blankly, wondering why he was inviting her to dinner.

"Don't worry, I don't mean anything by it. I just have a younger brother who's still single, and I really like you. I wanted to introduce you two." Seeing that Ding Le was about to refuse, she added, "It's just about making another friend. Don't overthink it. If we get along, I'd be happy to see it happen. If not, that's okay too. We can still be friends."

"Ahem." Ding Le was completely stunned. This was way too direct. She pursed her lips and said, "Secretary-General Wu, I'm not thinking about dating right now, so let's forget about it."

Wu Xiaoran looked at Ding Le with increasing satisfaction: "It's always okay for friends to have dinner together, right? It's settled then, no refusals allowed."

Ding Le remained silent. The Wu Xiaoran she knew was always very assertive and a sharp, strong woman. Knowing this, she kept quiet. No matter what excuse she gave, Wu Xiaoran would always manage to force her to meet.

She looked somewhat helplessly ahead, not noticing the cars driving by the roadside.

Wu Xiaoran drove slowly; the journey, which should have taken twenty minutes, took her almost thirty. Along the way, she subtly inquired about Ding Le, seemingly convinced that she was going to be her brother's wife.

Ding Le was extremely embarrassed and quickly got off the bus as if fleeing.

As if afraid she would forget, Wu Xiaoran lowered the window and shouted at her, "Don't forget about dinner this weekend, remember to make time for it."

Ding Le's face darkened, he awkwardly waved his hand and fled.

She wasn't deliberately being coy; after what happened with the fox, she genuinely realized one thing: men can't be trusted. One second they're showering you with sweet words, the next they're already cuddling with another woman.

Dating, marriage...

She was utterly disappointed and just wanted to be alone. Even if it meant facing gunfire and danger like before, it would be less painful than being with the fox now.

Their conversation was overheard by the owner of a car not far away. The man's eyes darkened, and his deep gaze was fixed on Ding Le as he got out of the car, creating a tense atmosphere around them.

Back home, Ding Le let out a long sigh. Dating, marriage, having children—these seem to be experiences every woman goes through. At one time, she had resisted them, but after Fox confessed his feelings to her, she wasn't without hope.

She, the fox, and the child...

But it's all over now. Fantasy is just fantasy. No matter how beautiful the words a man says to you before, he'll still be having an affair with other women the moment he turns his back.

Those vows of eternal love now seem like nothing but a joke.

The living room was empty; the fox was nowhere to be seen, and a hint of loneliness crept into his eyes. But more than anything, he felt a sense of relief. Perhaps it was better that it wasn't there.

She opened the door, just about to go back to her bedroom, when the front door opened again. She froze for a second, then quickly ran into the bedroom. Her movements were fluid and professional.

Unfortunately, the fox was one step ahead of her, forcing her against the wall and looking down at her, his ambiguous breath spraying on her face, which immediately made her wary.

She knew foxes well; usually, when they were gloomy like this, it meant they were angry, and very angry at that.

"What are you doing..." She paused, as if remembering something, and said through gritted teeth, "I just couldn't find a place to stay today. Don't worry, I'll move as soon as I find a place, it won't bother you!"

The fox seemed even angrier: "You really want to leave here?"

Ding Le was furious: "Am I supposed to stay and watch you two being all lovey-dovey? It's your business if you're shameless, but I just want some peace and quiet! Fox, let me tell you, from now on, we're nothing but work! Get out of my way, or don't blame me for being impolite!"

They started fighting without a word, but to her surprise, the fox was far more skilled than she was. Her eyes widened in astonishment, and she grew even angrier, unleashing a flurry of attacks.

The fox backed down while saying, "If you can beat me, I'll let you leave."

This is blatant contempt, and it is intolerable!

Ding Le showed no mercy, but the fox remained unfazed. He even pulled her into his arms with a single move, saying in an ambiguous tone, "I didn't realize you were so soft and fragrant."

Unexpectedly, the fox was so shameless that Ding Le was furious. He attacked again, shouting, "You scoundrel, I'll beat you to death!"

"To die beneath the peony blossoms is to be a romantic ghost, my love, come here."

With a loud bang, the words had barely left his lips when the fox received a solid punch to the face, leaving bloody marks on his nose and mouth—a horrifying sight.

Ding Le is an incredibly skilled superman. He's already quite formidable even without any effort, but this time he used all his strength. An ordinary man would have been unable to withstand him long ago.

Fresh blood flowed down his nose, meandering like a small snake.

Ding Le's heart clenched suddenly, and she almost rushed over to check on him. But she held back, clenched her fist, and turned to run away.

The fox was faster than her, locking the door and blocking the entrance, letting the blood flow freely while its eyes were fixed intently on her.

"Get out of the way!" Ding Le glared angrily. "One punch wasn't enough? Want another one?"

"Yes, take out all your anger on me, hit me!" The fox grabbed her hand and slapped it against his own face.

Ding Le was dumbfounded, meeting the fox's bloodshot eyes, unable to react for a moment.

"What are you standing there for? Hit me! Why aren't you hitting me anymore!" the fox roared, grabbing her hand and hitting himself with increasing force.

Ding Le finally came to his senses and forcefully pulled his hand back. "What are you doing? Let go, let go of me!"

Seeing her struggling violently, the fox felt sorry that she was hurting herself, so she let go. "Hit me or scold me as you please, go ahead and do it."

Is someone looking for a beating?

Seeing the fox's expression, it seemed he was truly letting her vent her anger. But the more he acted this way, the less Ding Le could bring herself to do it. She pursed her lips, "Of course it would be easy for me to take action, but I'm afraid I'll end up in the police station."

She sneered, "Maybe you feel guilty towards me and can let it go, but I think your girlfriend will feel sorry for you, and then there will inevitably be more trouble."

Her words made the fox frown and stare intently at her. "Hit me all you want, I won't fight back. Whatever the consequences, it's none of your business, don't worry."

"Ha, are you going to demonstrate again what it means to believe a pig can climb a tree rather than trust a man's words?"

"Ding Le." The fox moved closer to her, so close they could feel each other's breath. "Your bedroom faces the courtyard of the complex. Every day you stand at the window and look at me in the courtyard, even when there are other people around me..."

"I don't!"

"Let me finish," the fox interrupted her rebuttal, speaking slowly and deliberately, "I know you like me. Even if you don't admit it, it doesn't change the fact that you like me. Ding Le, we've been together for so long, do you think I wouldn't know?"

A look of embarrassment flashed across Ding Le's face: "What are you trying to say? To humiliate me?"

“Those kinds of words would never appear between us. The yard is brightly lit, and as long as the light in your room is on, I can see you clearly no matter where you are hiding.” Of course, there was one more thing he didn’t say: he had tampered with her phone, and he could hear all her mutterings.

"No, I was just looking at the scenery." Ding Le, enraged, threw another punch.

The fox neither dodged nor flinched, enduring the iron fist head-on. Pain instantly spread throughout its body, and a bloody taste welled up from its throat. It spat out a mouthful of blood.

The moment the blinding crimson blood gushed out, the fox swayed, steadied itself by grabbing the table beside it, and braced itself against the falling table.

"Not bad, at least it hurt me, haha." He spat out the blood in his mouth and said with a smile.

Ding Le felt a moment of unease; the intense, bright red blood sprayed onto her, and she had never found it so pungent. She wanted to escape; she could no longer share a space with the fox.

She hurt his body, but she also hurt her own heart.

What the hell is this bastard trying to do?

"Fox, from now on, we'll keep to ourselves. Please stay away from me!" She took a deep breath and clenched her fists tightly.

"I'm afraid it won't be as you wish." The fox reached out and, ignoring her struggles, took her swollen little hand in his palm. "Remember to wear protective gear next time you hit someone, it's all swollen."

"Fox, you're just being a jerk!"

"As long as you can calm down, I'm willing to act like a jerk every day." The fox looked at her seriously. "Are you calmed down yet? If you're still not calm, and you keep hitting me, I can take it. If it really doesn't work, I'll go to the hospital for a few days, and you can hit me again when I get back."

Ding Le glared at him: "What exactly do you want to do? I'm warning you, I..."

and many more!

What did he just say? Did he want her to feel better?

Ding Le paused, a deep sorrow flashing across his face. "You're already with Lucy. What good would it do for me to beat you up? To atone? To apologize? But you didn't do anything to me, and you didn't do anything to wrong me. Since you've chosen Lucy, then be together. I... I wish you well..."

I don't want your blessing!

Before she could finish speaking, the fox pulled her into a tight embrace. She pressed herself against him, listening to his uncontrollable heartbeat, and felt momentarily lost.

She forgot to struggle, and when she came to her senses, she found that the fox was incredibly strong, holding her tightly in its arms, and no matter how much she struggled, it was useless.

"Ding Le, I'm sorry." The fox buried his head in her thick hair, which smelled fresh. He slowly closed his eyes, his heart aching so badly it felt like it was bleeding. "Yes, I'm a bastard, a complete bastard! Ding Le, please give me a few days. In a few days, I will tell you the whole truth."

The truth? Ding Le's smile was chilling. What truth was worth telling? Even if there was one, he had already slept with Lucy. If there was any unspeakable truth, she would rather not know.
