Exclusive Pampered Wife: My Wife Came to My Door
Chapter 540: See once and fight once
The fox had always been too lazy to put his mind to such things; he didn't care about anyone except Ding Le, but that didn't mean he was oblivious to it. Since Lucy had said that, he pretty much knew what she meant.
“Ding Le.” Lucy walked up to her. “Just last night, because of an accident, I had a relationship with Fox that should only happen between boyfriend and girlfriend. Fox asked me if I would be his woman, but I didn’t answer immediately because I am still Jian Ning’s girlfriend.”
Ding Le felt a pang of pain in his heart. Sure enough, even the fox had been deceived by this.
Seeing the pained expression on Ding Le's face, Lucy felt a surge of satisfaction, but she didn't show it. Instead, she deliberately sighed and said, "Ding Le, you know that feelings can't be forced. Unrequited love only hurts yourself. Like me, I like Jian Ning, but Jian Ning doesn't have time for me, so our feelings are fading. Since that's the case, it's better to break up cleanly, which is better for everyone."
“As for Fox…” Ding Le smiled charmingly, walked to Fox’s side, and affectionately took his arm. “The biggest difference between him and Jian Ning is that he is not married. Even if he is a soldier, he can’t be with me all the time. But at least I don’t have to bear the stigma of being a third party. Besides, Fox is very outstanding. I believe we will be happier together.”
Ding Le felt his values had been warped: "You ruined Jian Ning's perfectly good family. Don't tell me you're tired of him now and want to abandon him and find someone new!"
Lucy raised an eyebrow: "You can't say that. Being together is always a matter of mutual consent. I feel guilty that Jian Ning abandoned his wife for me. Now that our feelings have faded, I believe he's come to his senses and wants to go back to his wife. What's wrong with killing two birds with one stone? If you like someone, you should seize the opportunity. If you clearly like someone but pretend to be reserved and end up missing your chance, then you can only say... you deserve it!"
These words carried a strong provocative tone. After Lucy finished speaking, she didn't forget to wink at the fox, "Darling, don't you think I'm right?"
The fox smiled slightly: "Two people who truly love each other should indeed seize the opportunity."
These words seemed to agree with Lucy on the surface, but upon closer examination, they held a deeper meaning. However, Lucy, preoccupied with her own smugness, was oblivious to this.
She leaned smugly against the fox, looking at Ding Le defiantly. Her seduction tactics had never failed; no matter what kind of man he was, he would eventually fall firmly under her control.
With a charming smile, Lucy said, "You are the true love I'm meant to hold onto, and I won't let you get away."
The fox looked down at her, as if it had a deep expression.
This scene was heartbreaking for Ding Le. Her fists clenched tightly, her knuckles turning white, and after a long while, she finally let out a breath and asked, "What are your plans for Jian Ning?"
"I don't have any plans. If it's not a good fit, we'll break up. I'll tell him directly." Lucy said calmly, as if she had no emotion at all.
Staring at Lucy and the fox's affectionate display, Ding Le felt a chill in her heart. Whether it was sympathy for Jian Ning or deep hatred for the fox, she felt utterly lost, as if all color had been extinguished.
She shouldn't have had any expectations a long time ago. After all, her life had already witnessed too much ugliness and cruelty. She was naive enough to actually hope for a glimmer of beauty and warmth in this evil society. She thought the fox would be the last remaining hope, but she was wrong.
Scenes of her time with the fox flashed through Ding Le's mind—those beautiful, sweet moments. She admitted that she really liked him. She didn't blame anyone but herself. She wasn't as pretty as Lucy, as direct, or as skilled at seducing men. Losing to her was something she had no right to complain about.
However, she still felt sorry for Jian Ning, who abandoned his wife only to end up like this.
Clenching his fist, Ding Le took a deep breath, as if making up his mind, and asked the fox one last time, "You said before that you liked me for a long time and wanted me to be your girlfriend. Does that still count?"
Lucy's heart tightened, and she felt a pang of worry. Given Ding Le's personality, he shouldn't have said anything more in this situation, so why was he still so insistent?
She instinctively hugged the fox's arm tighter, her expression revealing worry. She knew very well that men couldn't stand seeing women weak, especially when faced with a pitiful woman; they were often moved by her vulnerability.
Her pupils constricted as she stared intently at the fox.
“I’ve liked you for a long time, but I haven’t received your reply. Men’s patience is limited; once it’s exhausted, they lose all feeling.” Saying this, the fox looked down at Lucy, “Call Jian Ning now and tell him about this. There are many people around, so he won’t dare to do anything to you.”
Lucy tilted her head and thought for a moment: "Let's talk about it another day. Let me think about how to handle it without hurting him. Don't worry, I'll definitely get it sorted out in the next couple of days."
The fox's eyes softened: "Okay, I'll look for a place in the next couple of days, and you can move in with me."
Lucy blushed, looked at the fox shyly, and said coquettishly, "You're so annoying!"
"That's enough!" Ding Le roared, glaring fiercely at the fox, his eyes blazing with fury. The next second, without thinking, he raised his hand and slapped Lucy across the face.
The sound was loud and forceful, drawing the attention of passersby who turned to look, seemingly unsure what had happened. Then, a woman's scream rang out, "Ding Le, you actually..."
"I hit you, Lucy. I'm warning you, if you ever act like a jerk in front of me again, I'll beat you every time I see you!"
"You...you..." Lucy was so angry she almost choked. Ding Le was a soldier who had risked his life for so many years; she couldn't possibly beat her. She clearly saw Ding Le raise his hand, so how did the slap land on her face?
"Fox, she hit me... Waaah..." Lucy burst into tears halfway through her sentence, burying her face in the fox's chest.
The fox looked at Ding Le, their eyes met, and a strong smell of gunpowder filled the air.
"Ding Le, that's enough."
"I should be saying this to you adulterers!" Ding Le raised his chin, looking at the fox with disdain. "I wish you two, you two, would break up soon and die young, and never marry or have children!"
After saying that, she turned and left, but after taking a couple of steps, she seemed to remember something and turned back to say, "You don't need to look for a place. I'll move out tomorrow. I feel disgusted living here!" After saying that, Ding Le went home.
The moment she slammed the door shut, tears streamed down her face. She closed her eyes and slid down the door to the floor, feeling as if all her strength had been drained away.
It's over, it's all over.
“Fox,” Lucy cried out, her voice choked with emotion, “My face hurts so much. This is the second time she’s hit me.”
The fox's eyes narrowed, and he reached out to lift her chin. "I'll take you to the hospital to get checked out. Let's go."
"I don't want to go to the hospital," Lucy said coquettishly, hugging the fox tightly. "I hate going to the hospital. All that medicine and stuff looks so ugly."
Just as the fox was about to say something, his phone rang. He glanced at the caller ID, hung up immediately, and turned to Lucy, saying, "I have something to take care of right now. I'll take you home later. I saw you had some medicine at home last time, so take care of yourself. I'll come find you when I have time, okay?"
Lucy's heart sank, and she cursed silently. What a damn call, calling at this hour!
“Okay, work is important. These are just small things. You go ahead and do your work.” Lucy said considerately, stepping out of the fox’s arms. “I can go home by myself. You don’t need to see me off. Go on.”
"Lucy, I'm so sorry..."
"Silly girl, don't apologize to me. This is important." Lucy turned and walked to her car, waving her hand behind the fox. "Remember to call me when you're done. I'll be waiting for you."
Watching Lucy's car drive away, the fox finally called back, "Did you see everything that just happened?"
The person on the other end of the phone remained silent for a long time before finally speaking slowly, "Why are you telling me?"
The fox smiled and said, "Don't be so narcissistic. I just don't want Ding Le to suffer any injustice."
Jian Ning pursed her lips: "So what's your next plan?"
"You're overthinking it. I don't have any plans for the future. I'm more curious about what you're planning to do next, but of course, that's none of my business anymore, and you shouldn't ask me any more questions about my affairs."
Jian Ning fell silent again, and finally said, "Please apologize to Ding Le for me. Also, I owe Ding Le something. If you ever do something to wrong her, I will definitely get it back for her!"
"If there's nothing else, I'll hang up now." Fox finished speaking and hung up, glancing at the lit window. Ding Le must be feeling very sad right now... It's all his fault.
Chi Moqing didn't say a word all night. Yan Zuozuo was exhausted after returning from the hospital. She took a quick shower and went to bed, only to find her husband, who was lying on the sofa reading, no longer as calm as usual. He kept changing positions, looking restless.
She just stared at him. Normally, her husband would have noticed long ago and would have even flirted with her in a rather inappropriate way. But today, he was lost in thought, oblivious to her gaze for so long.
The situation is very bad!
After an unknown amount of time, Chi Moqing finally realized something was wrong. He turned his head and met his wife's thoughtful expression. He couldn't help but ask, "Why are you staring at me without saying anything?"
"I'm wondering how long it will take you to realize I'm watching you." Yan Zuozuo walked over, sat down beside him, and cupped his face in her hands, asking, "Honey, are you still worried about Tong Shili?"
“I’m not worried about her, but about the forces behind her.” Chi Moqing frowned, holding his wife on his lap. “Ever since J was injured in Germany, he has been silent for a long time. Now he’s suddenly making such a blatant assassination attempt. I’m worried that he might have received some kind of support. If that’s the case, the consequences will be unimaginable.”
Thinking about her husband's words, Yan Zuozuo's voice grew increasingly tense. "If Master J only wanted to kill Tong Shili because of her failed mission, it could only be considered internal punishment. But Grandpa and Bai Ningxuan were both seriously injured at this time. Husband, do you think this is a coincidence or is there some necessary connection?"
