Exclusive Pampered Wife: My Wife Came to My Door

Chapter 50 Cai Qingqing Disrupts the Birthday Banquet

He greeted one group after another in the same manner. Chi Moqing reached out and tucked the stray hairs that had fallen across her forehead behind her ear, and asked softly, "Are you tired? Do you want to rest for a bit?"

Yan Zuozuo shook her head: "It's okay, I'm fine."

Chi Moqing could tell she didn't like this kind of scene, and he felt sorry for her, saying, "If you don't like it, don't force yourself. We won't come again." He married her to cherish her, and he didn't want her to suffer.

Yan Zuozuo shook her head and smiled at him, "I didn't force myself, because it's you, so I'm willing to try my best."

Chi Moqing felt a warmth in his heart and, disregarding the occasion, placed a kiss on her forehead.

A few teasing laughs came from around them, but Chi Moqing didn't care at all. Yan Zuozuo, on the other hand, was always embarrassed by his unexpected ambiguity. She glared at him coquettishly, her fingers tightly clasped together.

"Mo Qing, Zuo Zuo, you've arrived," Cai Yaren said with a smile when he saw them.

"Uncle Cai, happy birthday." Chi Moqing took out the biological gift he had prepared in advance, which was genuine Da Hong Pao tea that Cai Yaren liked, and it was extremely rare. "I wish Uncle Cai a long and happy life."

"Haha, good, good, it's good that you remember my preferences, unlike Qingqing..." Suddenly, he realized he had said the wrong thing and quickly changed the subject, "Girl, we meet again."

Yan Zuozuo smiled and said, "Uncle Cai, happy birthday."

Cai Yaren nodded: "He's a well-behaved child, and he's a good match for Mo Qing." As he spoke, a hint of sadness flashed in his eyes. If it weren't for what happened to Cai Qingqing, Chi Mo Qing would have been his son-in-law long ago.

Alas! Life is unpredictable.

"You two chat first, I'll go over there and greet them." Cai Yaren left with his wine glass. Yan Zuozuo frowned, looked up at Chi Moqing, and asked, "Is he Cai Qingqing's father?"

Chi Moqing nodded, just about to say something, when she heard a soft voice, "Moqing, Zuozuo, you've arrived."

Chi Moqing glanced at her, put his arm around Yan Zuozuo's waist, and said expressionlessly, "Today is Uncle Cai's birthday, so of course I have to come."

"I'm so sorry to have troubled you. You've been the one celebrating my dad's birthday while I was away." She spoke softly, her eyes filled with tenderness as she looked at Chi Moqing. "No wonder my dad still hasn't given up..."

Chi Moqing frowned unhappily: "Uncle Cai and my father are old friends, and he watched me grow up, so it's only right that I come. As for the rest, Miss Cai is overthinking it."

His bluntness embarrassed Cai Qingqing. Several people were already watching, but she quickly recovered and said with a smile, "You suddenly called me Miss Cai, and I didn't quite catch it. Do we have to be so formal? Just call me Qingqing." Without giving Chi Moqing a chance to object, Cai Qingqing continued, "Knowing you like shrimp, I specially invited a Michelin-starred chef to make several different flavors. We'll try them later and see if you like them."

Chi Moqing looked at her, his eyes filled with a chilling glint. "Miss Cai, I don't understand what you mean by saying these things in front of my wife. But I can tell you clearly that I like to eat shrimp because I've known for a long time that my wife likes it. Every time I eat shrimp, I wonder if my wife will like this flavor. Do you understand now?"

Yan Zuozuo was taken aback, not expecting that Chi Moqing liked to eat shrimp for this reason, and a gentle smile appeared in her eyes.

But Cai Qingqing looked at him with a wronged expression and said with a mournful tone, "Today is my dad's birthday, do you really want me to look so bad?"

Chi Moqing sneered, "Don't you think you're the one who embarrassed your father?" He turned to look at Yan Zuozuo, "Are you tired? Let's go over there, Zuozuo."

Yan Zuozuo nodded and took Chi Moqing's arm, walking to the side. Cai Qingqing's eyes immediately reddened, and tears rolled down her cheeks like pearls. She bit her lip and said resentfully, "Why won't you give me a chance? Just because I made one mistake, you're going to send me to the deepest hell?"

Yan Zuozuo wanted to stop, but Chi Moqing held her and continued walking forward.

“Chi Moqing…”

"Qingqing!" Cai Yaren saw Cai Qingqing harassing Chi Moqing and immediately came over to stop her. What kind of occasion was this? Who were these people? He wouldn't tolerate her acting so recklessly.

"Dad, tell Moqing I love him! Why won't he accept me? What do I lack compared to Yan Zuozuo? I've loved him for over ten years, why does he treat me like this because of one mistake? Why?" Cai Qingqing cried out excitedly, and the entire banquet fell silent. Everyone's eyes kept turning back and forth between Chi Moqing and Cai Qingqing.

Yan Zuozuo felt very embarrassed. In fact, she really had nothing to compare with Cai Qingqing in terms of appearance and family background. Even though Cai Qingqing is now a famous pianist, she was just a small office worker.

The more she thought about it, the more inferior she felt, and she stood uneasily next to Chi Moqing, fidgeting with her fingers.

"She doesn't need to be better than you in any way, as long as I love her, that's enough," Chi Moqing said calmly, holding Yan Zuozuo in his arms.

"I don't believe it, I don't believe it, Chi Moqing, how could you be so cruel to me? I love you, I've loved you for so many years..."

"Love me?" Chi Moqing stared at her intently. "Miss Cai, if you still want to save face for yourself, don't say such things so casually. If my wife is ever harmed, I can't guarantee that I will continue to cover up those past events for you."

Cai Qingqing's expression changed drastically, and even Cai Yaren's face turned ugly. He said sternly, "Go back and reflect on your actions! Don't embarrass yourself here!"

"I……"

"Shut up!" Cai Yaren called the driver. "Take her home and don't let her leave the house for a month!" After giving the instructions in a low voice, Cai Yaren smiled apologetically. "I'm sorry everyone had to see this. Qingqing drank too much. Please don't take it to heart." He walked over to Chi Moqing and Yan Zuozuo and said, "I apologize on her behalf. Please forgive me."

Chi Moqing nodded: "Uncle Cai, please don't worry about it. My wife is a little tired, so we'll head back first."

Cai Yaren couldn't keep him any longer and could only let them leave. The remaining people discussed among themselves, speculating about the reasons why Chi Moqing and Cai Qingqing broke up back then.

"Judging from today's situation, it's highly likely that the woman cheated on him. It's understandable that President Chi doesn't want her. There are all kinds of women he can't have, why would he want one who cheats? She's bound to be cuckolded a lot in the future."

"This Miss Cai is quite something, causing such a scene at her father's birthday banquet. No wonder President Chi doesn't want a woman like her."

"She doesn't even consider the occasion. She forced President Chi to say those things. This woman's character... tsk tsk..."

Cai Yaren overheard these comments and was so angry he almost had a heart attack. That reckless girl needs to be taught a lesson!

On the bus, Yan Zuozuo gazed wistfully at the fleeting night scenery outside the window. It wasn't very late, but she felt incredibly tired. Her mind was filled with Cai Qingqing's words, "What is it about me that I lack compared to her?"

She also found it strange. Just because they knew each other when they were young, would Chi Moqing have liked her for so many years? Her mind was in a complete mess, and she leaned back in her chair and drifted off to sleep.

Chi Moqing glanced at her, adjusted her seat to make her more comfortable. Seeing that she was curled up as if she was a little cold, he reached out and turned off the air conditioning, staring at her delicate face with a slight smile on his lips.

When they arrived home, Yan Zuozuo was still asleep, so Chi Moqing reached out to hug her. Startled awake by his movement, Yan Zuozuo looked at him groggily and asked, "Are we there?"

"You keep sleeping, I'll carry you upstairs." Chi Moqing kissed her forehead and carried her out of the car.

"No, no... I can walk by myself..." Yan Zuozuo struggled to get down, but Chi Moqing wouldn't let go. "Be careful not to fall, sleep well."

Yan Zuozuo's face flushed slightly. She stopped moving, leaning against him with her ear against his chest, listening to his steady heartbeat as she gradually fell asleep. When she woke up again, it was already two in the morning, and Chi Moqing was not in bed.

She glanced to the side, reached for the light switch, and saw that the room beside her was cool and tidy, clearly untouched by anyone. She frowned. Where had he gone so late?

She had changed into her pajamas and walked into the dark living room. Yan Zuozuo subconsciously turned on the light and saw a nearly empty bottle of wine on the coffee table, and strange noises coming from the sofa.

As she walked over, she saw Chi Moqing holding a wine glass, looking up at her with a faint smile on his lips.

"It's so late, why aren't you sleeping? Why are you drinking here?" Yan Zuozuo frowned, suddenly getting angry as she saw the empty bottle. She glared at him, "You know you have a bad stomach, why are you still drinking so much?"

Chi Moqing smiled and reached out to pull her up. "Why are you up?"

"Chi Moqing, I'm asking you a question, don't change the subject. You've been drinking so much in the middle of the night, do you even want your stomach anymore?" She shook off his outstretched arm, feeling a pang of jealousy.

Chi Moqing wasn't angry at her sharp tone. He reached out and hugged her, burying his head in her chest, and said in a muffled voice, "I didn't drink much, just a few sips." He knew she was worried, so he tried to explain.

Yan Zuozuo struggled: "I've almost finished the whole bottle, and you still call that not drinking too much?"

"Don't move, let me hold you for a while, okay?" Chi Moqing's tone was tired, and he looked somewhat haggard.

Yan Zuozuo was moved by his dejected voice and actually stopped moving. But she was still very angry inside. He had been sick and hospitalized last time, how could he not learn his lesson?

Chi Moqing chuckled softly, feeling a warmth in his heart as he sensed her concern. It was so nice to have someone care about him.

“Chi Moqing, I’m not joking with you, not at all. Can you please stop being so cheeky? You promised me you wouldn’t drink, but as soon as you got home you were chugging from the bottle. I…I…” Yan Zuozuo’s originally serious tone suddenly turned sad. “You’re my husband, and I’m really worried about you. You scared me to death last time, and the doctor said you can’t drink anymore, but you…” She bit her lip, feeling inexplicably wronged.

Does he drink every time he sees Cai Qingqing? Although he explained it to her, his behavior tonight really doesn't reassure her. Does he truly not care about Cai Qingqing? Then why is he drinking alone because of her?

She lowered her eyes, a complex emotion flickering within them.

Chi Moqing noticed her sadness, hugged her tightly, and whispered, "I'm sorry for making you worry. I promise I won't do it again. I'll listen to you. If you don't want me to drink, I won't drink."

Yan Zuozuo took a deep breath and asked after a while, "Why did you drink?"

Chi Moqing stiffened and said in a low voice, "Thinking about some things from the past makes me feel bad."

"Because of Cai Qingqing?" Yan Zuozuo didn't want to be so obvious, but she couldn't help asking. The more she was with Chi Moqing, the more she cared. That's why she felt so bad.

“No, it’s not because of her,” Chi Moqing said firmly, reaching out to lift her chin. “Zuo Zuo, look at me. Cai Qingqing will never be a problem between us.”

"Why is that?" Yan Zuozuo asked. Perhaps she couldn't share his burden, but she could be a good listener. They were husband and wife; shouldn't they share both joy and sorrow?

Chi Moqing didn't speak, but simply held her tightly. Yan Zuozuo had been waiting for him to open his heart to her, but clearly Chi Moqing didn't intend to. He released Yan Zuozuo, a slight smile playing on his lips, "It's getting late, let's go to sleep."
