Exclusive Pampered Wife: My Wife Came to My Door

Chapter 42: Mom's acting strangely.

Chi Moqing turned her around, frowning slightly as he looked at the tears on her face. "Why are you crying? Don't you like it?"

Yan Zuozuo shook her head; it wasn't that she disliked him, but rather that she liked him too much. She looked up at Chi Moqing and couldn't help but ask, "Why are you so good to me?"

Chi Moqing smiled, touched by her tender expression. He pinched her red, tear-stained nose and said affectionately, "You're my wife. If I'm not good to you, who will I be good to?"

With tears welling up in her bright eyes, Yan Zuozuo spoke as if she had made up her mind, "Qi Jiahui and I were each other's first love. We promised to work hard together, buy a house, a car, and get married. But to avoid struggling for twenty years, he got together with He Xinrui. There was nothing dramatic about it; I was just dumped."

Chi Moqing was glad she was willing to bring it up. Actually, even if she hadn't said anything, he already knew about her past. But so what if Qi Jiahui had existed? In the years to come, he would be holding her hand and walking together. Regardless of their initial purpose for marriage, what mattered was that from now on they would grow old together. As for the past wounds, they would heal, scab over, and fall away eventually.

He reached out and wiped away her tears: "I'm glad you told me this, but I feel it's nothing compared to what I have to do."

Yan Zuozuo looked at him, puzzled: "What are you going to do?"

Chi Moqing didn't speak, but the next second he kissed her. He kissed her eyes, her tears, the tip of her nose, and her delicate lips. Their tongues intertwined, and Chi Moqing conveyed to her a deep tenderness and affection.

He loved her, so he never wanted to see her suffer again, never wanted her to be hurt and sad because of the past, and never wanted to see her squatting alone in the corner, like an abandoned child.

Yan Zuozuo, panting, slumped in his arms, closing her eyes to feel his strong heartbeat. Chi Moqing held her, his voice deep and elegant, "From now on, I will protect you."

"Thank you," Yan Zuozuo said in her heart.

On the way back, Yan Zuozuo was in a good mood, unlike her earlier gloom; she exuded a pure and vibrant aura. Soft music played in the car, and she would occasionally glance at Chi Moqing, then turn her head away, looking as timid as a little mouse that had stolen lamp oil. Chi Moqing found her actions amusing.

He reached out to take her hand, and Yan Zuozuo grasped his in return, a happy smile spreading across her face. Sometimes love doesn't need to be dramatic; just this gentle, warm feeling is enough, just like theirs.

"President Chi, why don't you cook dinner tonight?" Yan Zuozuo suddenly spoke up, and Chi Moqing was taken aback. "Why?"

"Cinderella's dream doesn't end until midnight. It's only seven o'clock now, not time for me to wake up yet." Yan Zuozuo chuckled, looking at the night outside the window, took a deep breath, and felt refreshed.

Chi Moqing hummed in agreement: "Who said they were going to take care of dinner from now on?"

"The contractor should also have the right to rest, and..." Yan Zuozuo's voice, which had been arguing with Chi Moqing, suddenly stopped. Her eyes widened, and she suddenly roared, "Stop the car!"

Chi Moqing frowned slightly but still pulled the car over to the side of the road. Yan Zuozuo was so shocked her jaw almost dropped. She actually saw Fu Zixin kissing a man, and that man was the policeman she had previously fallen for!

The policeman had a girlfriend, but now he's with Fu Zixin...

Yan Zuozuo felt confused and angry at being deceived. Fu Zixin kept saying she was giving up, yet she kept getting entangled with that policeman. Did she even know what she was doing?

Not long after, she saw the policeman lead Fu Zixin into the restaurant. The two were clearly a couple deeply in love, embracing each other. So, did Fu Zixin really break up the policeman and his girlfriend?

She wanted to get out of the car and greet her, but Chi Moqing grabbed her arm. "Everyone has the freedom to choose their lifestyle. You're only pushing her further away."

Yan Zuozuo turned to look at him, biting her lip, a hint of disappointment flashing in her eyes. After a pause, she took out her phone and called Fu Zixin, trying to keep her voice calm, "Where are you? Want to have dinner together tonight?"

"I'm afraid it's not possible tonight, I have a date, oh my god." Fu Zixin sounded very happy, and she was even flirting with that man while on the phone, with ambiguous sounds faintly coming from the receiver.

"Who are you dating?" Watching Fu Zixin interacting with the police through the glass, her heart sank.

"We'll talk later. I'm busy right now, so I'm hanging up." Fu Zixin cut off the call directly. Yan Zuozuo gripped the phone tightly, feeling a little sad, for Fu Zixin, and also for the policewoman girlfriend he had never met.

“Zuo Zuo…” Chi Moqing called her.

Yan Zuozuo lowered her head, her voice somber. "Maybe it's because I've been hurt before, that I'm so sensitive to these things. But I really can't accept that my best friend would interfere in someone else's relationship... I can't convince myself..." She forced a smile, but found it difficult. She glanced at Fu Zixin one last time and said softly, "Let's go."

Chi Moqing drove without saying a word, but held her hand tightly, giving her strength.

“I’ve known Zixin for almost ten years. We’re inseparable. She’s always been a carefree and good girl. Seeing me get hurt hurts her more than it hurts her. But now… I don’t know…”

Her words were incoherent, but Chi Moqing understood them. He parked the car on the side of the road, turned to look at Yan Zuozuo seriously, and said, "Zuozuo, no one can explain fate. When feelings come, they are beyond our control. Perhaps Fu Zixin didn't want things to be this way, but we couldn't help but end up together. Since we can't stop it, why not let nature take its course?"

Yan Zuozuo stared at him blankly: "But she's ruining other people's relationships..."

"Even if you could, could you stop it?" Chi Moqing asked, brushing aside the stray hairs on her forehead.

Yan Zuozuo lowered her eyes. Yes, she and Fu Zixin had already discussed this matter, but Fu Zixin insisted on her own way. What could Yan Zuozuo change? The more she talked, the more distant their friendship became. Fu Zixin had chosen her own path; what power did Yan Zuozuo have to change it?

"I just don't want her to regret it, I don't want her to get hurt." Fu Zixin is her best friend. She has experienced the pain herself, how could she bear to let Fu Zixin go through it again? It would break her heart.

Chi Moqing said no more, reached out and hugged her, gently stroking her back.

Because of Fu Zixin's situation, Yan Zuozuo couldn't concentrate on her work. She couldn't help but call Fu Zixin, and after a long time, the call was finally answered. But a masculine voice came from the other end of the line, and Yan Zuozuo was stunned.

"Hello, who is it?"

"Sorry, wrong number." Yan Zuozuo quickly hung up the phone, her mind in turmoil. The man answered Fu Zixin's call so early in the morning, his voice slurred—what did that mean?

Yan Zuozuo wasn't a three-year-old; she understood perfectly well that they were living together. She couldn't quite describe the irritation in her heart. Even though, as Chi Moqing said, she couldn't stop Fu Zixin and that man no matter what she did, she still felt uncomfortable.

After get off work, Chi Moqing called to say he had something to do and wouldn't be picking her up, but would send his driver instead. She refused, saying, "I want to walk around by myself, don't worry."

Chi Moqing remained silent for a while before saying, "Then be careful on your journey. I'll be back soon."

Yan Zuozuo hung up the phone, let out a long sigh, and stood on the bustling street, unsure of which way to go. She knew she was overthinking things; Fu Zixin was already with that person, so what was the point of worrying here?

Perhaps she should change her perspective and wish them a happy ending. Lovers? The thought of that word made Yan Zuozuo inexplicably want to laugh, a bitter smile involuntarily creeping onto her lips.

As she walked straight along the road, she suddenly saw two figures pulling and tugging at each other across the street. Yan Zuozuo was startled; she couldn't mistake those two figures for each other. She quickly crossed the road and ran across.

Yan's mother struggled incessantly: "Let me go, I have nothing to say to you." Her voice was not loud, but it was very cold.

“Fenfang, listen to me, I wanted to give you a good life back then, but…”

"Enough! If that's really what you think, you wouldn't have left and never come back. Let me go!" Mother Yan was very agitated, glaring angrily at the man in front of her.

"But then I couldn't get away, so I asked someone to send money to you and your daughter..."

"He Cangyuan, could you be any more shameless!"

When Yan Zuozuo arrived across the street, she saw He Cangyuan arguing with her mother. It was clear that Yan's mother was very agitated, and He Cangyuan was also emotionally unstable.

"Let go of my mother!" Yan Zuozuo stepped forward and shoved He Cangyuan aside.

Both Yan's mother and He Cangyuan looked at Yan Zuozuo at the same time, and were both stunned. Yan's mother was a little at a loss, not expecting that Yan Zuozuo would see her entangled with He Cangyuan.

He Cangyuan was also taken aback; he had unexpectedly run into Yan's mother today. He hadn't forgotten anything from back then, but so many years had passed, and that feeling had long since faded, existing only in a corner of his memory. The reason he wanted to talk to Yan's mother was still about the hospital matter; he hoped that Yan's mother could persuade Yan Zuozuo to help.

It was obvious that the matter hadn't been accomplished, and Yan Zuozuo had seen it. He still felt guilty in front of Yan Zuozuo.

"Zuo, Zuo Zuo..." Yan's mother looked at Yan Zuo Zuo in a panic and quickly explained, "We met by chance, don't overthink it."

Yan Zuozuo didn't speak, but stood in front of He Cangyuan with a gloomy face and a cold attitude. "If Dean He is trying to achieve your goal through my mother, I advise you to give up on that idea. The more you do this, the more I will hate you, and I will not say a good word for you."

He Cangyuan didn't expect Yan Zuozuo to be so clear right away. His thoughts were exposed, which made him feel a little embarrassed. "I just want to talk to your mother."

"You're not qualified," Yan Zuozuo sneered. "Please stay away from my mother from now on. We don't welcome you near us."

"Yan Zuozuo!" He Cangyuan wanted to get angry, but he didn't dare to get angry easily because of her status. He could only grit his teeth and say, "No matter what, I am your father. Is this the attitude you should have?"

Yan Zuozuo looked at him with a half-smile: "Father? In the past twenty years, have you fulfilled even the slightest obligation as a father? Twenty years ago, you abandoned my mother and me. Twenty years later, you forced me to leave Qi Jiahui for He Xinrui. He Cangyuan, what makes you worthy of being my father? If you have any self-awareness, don't use these words to tarnish the word."

He Cangyuan's face turned red and then pale as Yan Zuozuo spoke aggressively. He looked at Yan's mother with complicated eyes, clenched his fist, and turned to leave.

Yan Zuozuo turned around, her brows furrowed as she looked at her mother. "Mom, when did you arrive? Why didn't you call me?"

"I...I just arrived, I haven't had a chance to call yet..." Yan's mother said somewhat flusteredly.

Yan Zuozuo didn't think much of it and nodded, saying, "Then let's go home. Mo Qing should go back too."

"Okay, I just happened to bring some things for you." Mother Yan seemed very uneasy. She looked back at He Cangyuan walking away and couldn't help but tremble, as if she was afraid that he would catch up with her.

Yan Zuozuo helped her and hailed a taxi. In the car, Yan's mother was very nervous. Although she was smiling, the smile was fake and could not hide her unease and fear at all.
