Traveling back to the Northern Song Dynasty: Picking up a princess as my wife

Chapter 7 The Arrogant Manager Cui, the County's Large-Scale Procurement

After getting the money, Li Zhen first went to the bank to pay off his mortgage, and then went to a 4S store to buy a BMW X5 in full. He drove the new car straight to his workplace to resign.

He had barely entered when he was met by his supervisor, who had a dark expression on his face: "Li Zhen, look at the time! Do you have any sense of discipline? Even if you had something to do, couldn't you have asked for leave?"

As the saying goes, money gives a man courage. With money in hand, Li Zhen was no longer the timid man he used to be at the company. He said to his supervisor without any politeness, "Supervisor Cui, I'm here today to resign. I won't be an employee of this company anymore. Please be more polite!"

All the colleagues in the hall looked at him with surprise. They never expected that Li Zhen, who was usually bullied, would change his attitude today and dare to stand up to the supervisor nicknamed "King of Hell Cui".

Supervisor Cui probably felt he was losing face, so he said loudly, "Even if you resign today, your attendance today will be treated as absenteeism, and three days' wages will be deducted."

Li Zhen walked straight into the personnel department, saying as he went, "Whatever, I don't care about that little bit of money."

The entire office lobby erupted in a buzz, with many speculating whether Li Zhen had won the lottery, otherwise how could he be so domineering? Even Wang Yan, the cashier who had been constantly pursued by Li Zhen, was wondering if she should agree to date him, since Li Zhen seemed like a different person today, exuding such charisma.

Regarding Li Zhen's voluntary resignation, the head of the company's human resources department stated that Li Zhen would not receive any "N+1" or "N+2" compensation. Li Zhen did not care about these unfair terms. He said that as long as the resignation procedures were completed, he was fine with it. He did not care about anything else, not even how to withdraw or transfer his social security.

The head of the HR department had handled so many resignations, but this was the first time he had encountered such a situation. Even after he finished processing Li Zhen's resignation, he pinched his thigh hard to remind himself that this was not a dream.

Having completed his resignation procedures, Li Zhen felt a sense of relief. Under the watchful eyes of his many colleagues, he opened the door of his brand-new BMW X5, closed it, and sped away.

Unbeknownst to Li Zhen, his story became a legend throughout the company. Some said he won the lottery, others that he was kept by a wealthy woman, and still others that he was the illegitimate son of a real estate tycoon. The most tragic figure was Wang Yan, whom Li Zhen had once pursued. After Li Zhen left the company, he never contacted her again, causing Wang Yan to suffer from depression.

In less than two days, Li Zhen had spent three million of the seven million, leaving him with four million. If he were to deposit that four million in a bank for investment, the returns alone would probably be enough to support him for the rest of his life. But the first thing Li Zhen thought of after becoming wealthy was the villagers in the Northern Song Dynasty, who were still waiting for him to bring back grain.

To facilitate the large-scale purchase of supplies, Li Zhen rented a large warehouse in a location on the outskirts of the county town to temporarily store his purchases. Otherwise, simply storing a mountain of supplies into his jade pendant space would surely cause a sensation.

The first thing Li Zhen bought was grain. He went to the largest grain store in the county town and went directly to the store manager.

Li Zhenxian handed the other party a cigarette: "Manager, I am the canteen manager of a certain unit. I just took office and was thinking of seeking long-term cooperation with you."

Upon hearing that this was a windfall delivered to their doorstep, the grain store manager immediately assured him that there was absolutely no problem. Not only was the quality guaranteed, but the price was also the lowest in the entire county. The only condition was that payment could not be delayed.

Li Zhen didn't hesitate at all, directly stating the quantity and type of grain he wanted to purchase. Besides rice and wheat flour, he also bought a considerable amount of noodles, soybeans, mung beans, and even soybean oil and peanut oil. After the other party calculated the price, Li Zhen didn't even look at it before transferring the money directly to their account.

This immediately brought a smile to the grain store manager's face. He kept begging Li Zhen to stay for lunch, but Li Zhen, busy with other purchasing matters, politely declined, saying he would come back soon. However, he requested that the large quantity of goods be delivered to his rented warehouse, which could be considered a condition.

Next, Li Zhen went to a grocery store, a work supplies store, and a hardware store and made a large purchase. After buying these items, he had them delivered to his rented warehouse. After looking around, he discovered that the entire county didn't sell crossbows or similar items, not even in sporting goods stores. Finally, he took out his phone and searched for numerous shops on Taobao. After repeatedly verifying the quantity and requirements with one seller, he purchased thirty sport crossbows online, expected to arrive in three days.

This meant he wouldn't be able to return to the Northern Song Dynasty for three days. After thinking for a moment, Li Zhen took out his phone again and bought a large quantity of canned luncheon meat and instant noodles online. Ham sausages and bread were also essential, since online prices were significantly cheaper than offline.

Just after Li Zhen returned home after a busy day, his phone rang.

Li Zhen glanced at the number; it was a local, unfamiliar number. He assumed it was a spam call, perhaps for advertising or loans, and hung up immediately. But shortly after, the phone rang again—from the same number.

Li Zhen pressed the answer button impatiently: "Hello, I don't need a loan, and I don't want to buy a house, so don't call me again."

There was a pause on the other end of the phone, followed by a male voice: "Li Zhen, this is Wang Pengfei. Who upset you? Why are you so angry?"

Upon hearing Wang Pengfei's name, Li Zhen recalled that Wang Pengfei, like Cao Hua, was his high school classmate. However, Wang Pengfei's father was an official in the Education Bureau and had always liked to put him in a superior position, so Li Zhen didn't have a good impression of him. He just didn't know why Wang Pengfei would call him for no reason.

Li Zhen patiently said into the phone, "Oh, it's an old classmate! We haven't seen each other for so many years. How are you doing? Where are you working these days?"

The voice on the other end of the phone said, "I just heard about you from Cao Hua. Are you free tonight? A few of us classmates want to get together. It's been so many years since we parted ways at school. Let's catch up!"

Since he had nothing else to do, Li Zhen agreed. The meeting place was the most luxurious Moonlit Pavilion Hotel in the county, which mainly served Cantonese cuisine. Basically, all the important people in the county liked to dine there, and the atmosphere was quite good.
