Chapter 29 Encountering Injustice and Letting Out a Roar

After the four-person meeting, Shen Mujin left the room with Xuan Yi.

"Why did you come out with me?" Shen Mujin turned her head and glanced at Gu Yan, who was following behind, looking around and strolling around.

"Sigh, I just voted in favor of you. I'm afraid my brother will scold me... I'd better stay away so he won't find me annoying."

"So what are you going to do now? Why don't you come sit at my place for a while?"

"No, no, I'm afraid Xuan Yi will find me annoying if I go with you." Knowing his own limitations, Gu Yan said goodbye to Shen Mujin and decided to go downstairs for a walk.

As soon as she stepped downstairs, Gu Yan was shocked by the three or five tables of customers sitting in the lobby. In a daze, she walked to the counter, patted Mai Qiu who was busy keeping accounts, and asked in a low voice, "Mai Qiu, what's going on today?"

"I don't know either. The guests at these tables said that there have been a lot of outsiders in Wuzhou recently, and almost every inn is full, so there's nowhere to eat."

"Oh, do you need any help?" Gu Yan instantly thought of what Bai Heming had just mentioned upstairs. For the first time, he realized that having a large population in Wuzhou had its advantages, as it could bring more income to the inn.

"It's alright, Mai Dong and I can handle just three or five tables." Mai Qiu gave Gu Yan a reassuring look.

"Okay, I'll go out for a walk. It might get crowded around noon, and I'll come back to help you then."

"Alright, be careful. Last time you went out not long before Young Master Jiang followed you out, and this time it was Young Master Jiang who went out not long before you followed him out too. You two didn't sneak out to meet up, did you?" Mai Qiu's teasing tone made Gu Yan want to laugh.

"What are you laughing at? Hurry up and put your account in the books. If you keep talking nonsense, I won't be back to help you at noon."

However, upon hearing that Jiang Si had just left, Gu Yan instantly had an idea. Without saying anything more to Mai Qiu, he waved his hand and walked straight out.

Standing at the entrance of the inn, Gu Yan looked at the people coming and going on the street. She originally wanted to try to catch up with Jiang Si, but as far as the eye could see, there were people everywhere. Finding Jiang Si among these people was like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Nothing in this world is difficult if you're willing to give up. Gu Yan noticed there were fewer people on the right and decisively stepped into the crowd there. The street was lined with stalls and vendors, their cries rising and falling. There weren't many ordinary people on the street; almost everyone was a martial arts expert wielding weapons.

The weather in Wuzhou is probably really about to change.

Gu Yan was eating freshly roasted chestnuts, aimlessly following the crowd, turning left and right. With a "bang," a figure tumbled out of a room on the right and fell straight in front of Gu Yan, startling him so much that he almost screamed.

The loud thud drew the attention of onlookers. They formed a circle, pointing and whispering about the blood-soaked man lying on the ground, but no one dared to approach and investigate.

Immediately afterwards, a burly man walked out of the house, dragging a pitiful and frail woman in his hand. He grinned, revealing a mouthful of yellow teeth, and laughed arrogantly: "It's your good fortune that your sister has caught my eye. Don't push your luck. If you keep bothering me, I'll send you straight to meet the King of Hell."

Gu Yan came to her senses. The burly man's arrogant laughter, the girl's sobs, and the indifferent chatter of the people around her made her somewhat shocked, but even more angry.

She watched as the thin man on the ground struggled for a long time in pain, unable to stand up, yet stubbornly reaching out to hold onto the strong man's clothes tightly, preventing him from taking the girl beside him away.

This action made the burly man's face turn ugly. He raised his foot and kicked the man hard in the abdomen, causing the thin man to immediately spit out a mouthful of blood.

Even as he coughed up blood, the gaunt man refused to give up, still clinging tightly to the burly man's clothes. Enraged, the burly man grabbed the girl and gruffly said, "Fine, since you won't let go, I'll take your sister to the bridal chamber right here and now. I'll see what you can do about it."

After saying that, he completely ignored the woman's struggles and resistance, pushed her to the ground, and forcibly tore at her clothes, attempting to commit an indecent act in broad daylight.

Gu Yan couldn't bear to watch any longer. She bit her lower lip tightly and clenched her fists, afraid that she might not be able to stop him. But she didn't dare, because she didn't have the ability to stop him, and she might even implicate herself if she wasn't careful.

Gu Yan felt ashamed and frustrated by her cowardice and incompetence. She lowered her head, her hair slipping down to cover her slightly reddened eyes. She gritted her teeth, forced back her tears, and turned to leave without looking up, but was grabbed by the person beside her.

Gu Yan was startled and immediately looked up, only to see Jiang Si.

His already expressionless face became even more serious.

At that moment, Gu Yan felt as if she had seen a savior. Ignoring the difference between men and women, she quickly reached out and grabbed Jiang Si's arm tightly, pleading in a low voice, "Young Master Jiang, please, save that girl, please."

Jiang Si looked at Gu Yan in front of him, large tears streaming down his face. He couldn't help but reach out and gently wipe them away. "Don't cry, I'm here."

After saying that, he picked up a handful of chestnuts from Gu Yan's hand and threw them at the burly man on the ground. The chestnuts seemed to have eyes, specifically targeting the man's eyes, ears, and other vulnerable spots.

"Hey, which blind bastard hit me?"

"Don't be blind when you smash those bastards." Jiang Si's cool voice carried a chilling aura.

The burly man never expected anyone to dare to defy him in public, and his face turned pale and then red. He dropped the girl he was holding and swung his fist straight at Jiang Si.

Jiang Si raised his arm around Gu Yan, turned to the left, and easily dodged the burly man's attack.

The burly man immediately became agitated, panting heavily, and roared, "Where did this brat come from? I am the third hall master of the Canghai Gang. If you know what's good for you, apologize to me right now, or you won't leave here alive."

"The fact that the Third Hall Master of the Canghai Gang can bully men and women in broad daylight shows that your Canghai Gang is no good either."

Gu Yan stood with her hands on her hips, feeling a great sense of security and courage from Jiang Si beside her.

"you…"

"What do you mean, 'what do I mean'? Look at what you've done! Oh no, you're a dog, of course you're not doing anything human. Everyone says that heroes of the martial arts world rid the people of evil, but I think your Canghai Gang is the scum of the martial arts world. Today, we have all seen clearly what you have done. Fellow villagers, if you see the Canghai Gang in the future, be sure to stay away from them to avoid getting into trouble."

Gu Yan's words immediately drew cheers from many onlookers.

As the crowd on the street grew larger, the burly man felt like he had been pushed into the eye of the storm, with no way out. He could only grit his teeth and continue shouting, "This little girl is quite the talker, quite energetic. I wonder if she's just as energetic when she's asleep."

Gu Yan blushed with anger at the burly man's foul language. If Jiang Si hadn't stopped him, he would have rushed up and scratched him to death.

Jiang Si's expression also turned serious because of the burly man's words, and his clenched fists made his fingers crack. "You will pay the price for what you said."

Before anyone could react to what had happened, the burly man was thrown out like a tattered sack, crashing heavily to the ground. A mouthful of black blood gushed from his gaping mouth, causing everyone who witnessed it to recoil in shock, while staring in astonishment at Jiang Si, who had suddenly darted forward.

Gu Yan wished he could applaud and cheer for Jiang Si on the spot. The fighting could be left to Jiang Si. As for the man covered in blood and the disheveled, somewhat dazed little girl on the roadside, Gu Yan immediately took off his coat, walked over to the little girl, squatted down, and said softly, "Don't be afraid, put your coat on first, okay?"

The little girl's eyes were lifeless, as if she hadn't heard Gu Yan's voice. Gu Yan didn't dare to touch her forcibly, afraid of triggering a stress reaction. He could only walk to the other side, poke the man lying on the ground, and tentatively ask, "Hey, are you still alive?"

The man seemed to still be conscious and tried to answer, but he coughed up another mouthful of blood. Helpless, he could only weakly nod and struggle to raise his hand, pointing to the little girl beside him.

"Alright, alright, don't say anything for now. The girl is fine, she's just a little traumatized. Don't move, I'll find someone to take you to the clinic." Gu Yan looked up and glanced around. Jiang Si was still teaching the burly man a lesson, and she couldn't lift the person in front of her by herself. Just as she was wondering what to do, an acquaintance walked out from the crowd.

"Brother Li! Over here!" Gu Yan immediately raised his hand and waved, his excited address changing.

With Li Hengzhi's help, the two of them finally got the unfortunate brother and sister to the clinic, and even thoughtfully paid for the consultation and medicine. Fortunately, the man only suffered minor injuries, the only serious one being a kick to the abdomen, which he could recover from by resting in bed at home. However, the little girl seemed to have been traumatized and was somewhat dazed.

Just as she was finally able to sit down and catch her breath, Jiang Si walked in from outside the clinic.

"Young Master Jiang! So, what did that bastard say?" Gu Yan quickly stood up to greet him and even offered him a cup of tea.

"He's not dead. People from the Canghai Gang came and took him back. They also gave the injured person some compensation." After saying that, he handed the wooden box he had been carrying to Gu Yan.

Gu Yan took the wooden box, weighed it in his hand—it was quite heavy—and went into the inner room. He lifted the curtain and handed the item to the man lying on the bed. The man looked at the wooden box with anger, as if he wanted to knock it out of Gu Yan's hands. "Thank you all for your help, but I can't accept this. Please return it to me."

Gu Yan placed the wooden box on the small cabinet beside the bed. He patted the box and earnestly advised, "We understand how you feel. But think about it carefully. You need money for your recovery and medicine, right? And your sister needs money to take her out for medical treatment and relaxation, right? Do you have the money?"

The man on the bed was stumped by Gu Yan's question. He looked up at his younger sister, who was sitting silently by the bed, and after a long while, he finally spoke up: "Then let's leave it there for now."

Gu Yan, in one swift motion, shoved the box into the man's arms. "This is compensation for you, and you take it without a second thought. If I were you, I'd spend it all, treat the girl to a nice meal, and then take her away from here. Is there really no place for two people like you in such a big country as Daqi?"

The man seemed to be persuaded by Gu Yan. He touched the wooden box in his arms and nodded to indicate that he understood.

Gu Yan then turned her gaze to the little girl. After thinking for a moment, she slowly walked to her side, squatted down, and handed the little girl a small white bag.

But the little girl didn't budge an inch.

Gu Yan didn't give up, ignoring the girl's expression, and said softly to himself, "In my hometown, there's a particularly beautiful flower called the rose. Roses are very resilient, unafraid of wind and rain. But while roses are beautiful, they have a drawback: their stems are covered in sharp thorns. Yet, the rose doesn't shrink back because of these thorns; on the contrary, it musters its strength and blooms vigorously. Girl, just think of today's events as being bitten by a dog. You did nothing wrong; the fault lies with that bullying dog, with this murky world. So why are you closing yourself off and punishing yourself?"

Seeing a flicker of emotion in the girl's usually calm eyes, Gu Yan quickly reached out and firmly grasped her hand. "Little sister, there are not only bad people in this world, but also good people, and even family. Don't let that scoundrel affect you. After what happened, you must hold your head high and show that damn Canghai Gang that he can't scare you, much less you."

After squatting for a while, Gu Yan couldn't stand it anymore. He stood up using a chair as a makeshift chair and forcefully stuffed the small bag in his hand into the little girl's hand. "There are sweet pastries inside. If you're in a bad mood, eat something sweet."

Then, enduring the slight soreness and numbness in her calves, she walked back to Jiang Si's side, her movements a little stiff.

With things mostly settled at the clinic, Gu Yan and the other two decided to return to the inn. As they exited the clinic, Gu Yan looked up at the bright sun overhead and suddenly remembered that she had promised Mai Qiu she would be back to help him before noon.

"Oh no, I'm going to miss it." Gu Yan muttered to himself, ignoring the discomfort in his calves, and immediately strode towards the inn.

"Is something urgent?" Jiang Si asked, noticing Gu Yan's anxious expression.

"I promised Maiqiu I'd get back before noon to help him, but who knew..." Who knew I'd run into this on the way and be busy until now.

"Don't worry, we'll make it." Jiang Si finished speaking and winked at Li Hengzhi. With Gu Yan looking bewildered, he grabbed her waist, lightly touched the ground with his feet, and lifted her into the air, flying towards the inn.

Gu Yan was pulled into Jiang Si's arms. The sudden lift off the ground startled her, and she closed her eyes, only to hear the whistling wind in her ears.

Jiang Si looked down at Gu Yan's resolute expression and couldn't help but chuckle softly. He said in a deep voice, "Don't be afraid, it's alright."

Jiang Si's deep laughter carried a hint of seductive allure, the vibrations in his chest causing Gu Yan to tremble as well. Although Gu Yan was still very nervous, he slowly opened his eyes and said in a low, trembling voice, "Young Master Jiang, could you please tell me before you fly next time? At least give me some time to prepare."

"Okay, time was short this time, I'll remember to mention it next time."

Gu Yan nodded and stopped talking. After all, it was windy in the sky, and what if he got an upset stomach from drinking too much? Just as Gu Yan was lost in thought, the two of them landed on the ground.

Looking at the familiar inn before him, Gu Yan couldn't help but click his tongue in amazement: The celebrations in ancient times were incredible! They were practically man-made "airplanes." He immediately looked at Jiang Si with admiration, "Young Master Jiang, do you take on disciples? Do you think I still have a chance to learn light-body skills?"

"..." Jiang Si was taken aback by Gu Yan's question and hadn't thought of how to answer when he heard Shen Mujin's shout coming from the inn.

"Ayan, come quickly and help."

"Alright, alright, I'm here." Gu Yan snapped out of her daze and hurriedly ran into the inn. There were even more guests in the lobby than before she left in the morning. It seemed that Mai Qiu and Mai Dong couldn't handle it, so they successfully called Xiao Wan, Xuan Yi, and even her older brother Bai Heming to help.

Gu Yan suppressed a laugh, took the apron from Shen Mujin and tied it on, "How does business feel?"

"Making money really isn't easy." Shen Mujin finished wiping the table, looked up at Gu Yan, and asked with some confusion, "Did you run back? Why is your face so red?"

"Ah, um, yes, it was too rushed. I'll go help out first." Gu Yan raised his hand to touch his burning cheeks, and suddenly remembered Jiang Si's low chuckle just now. He shook his head and picked up the tray to walk towards the customer.

She had to work; only by working could she temporarily forget what had just happened.
