Infinite Flow: Becoming a God in a Nightmare Game
Chapter 23 Ghost Stories 6
The moment the key landed in Jiang Qi's hand, the lights in the locker room blazed on, followed by several directional arrows.
Jiang Qi immediately stood up, and the others followed the arrow to a closed cabinet.
Jiang Qi immediately used the key to open the cabinet door, but the danger he had imagined did not materialize.
Four heads stared at the inside of the cabinet, which contained neither a corpse nor anything else, but was connected by a narrow passage.
There was a faint sound of wind blowing through the passage, and candles were lit on the walls for illumination.
After waiting outside for a while, no danger appeared.
As Jiang Qi and the others filed in, the lights in the changing room suddenly went out, and the locker doors behind them slowly closed.
Perhaps this is the way out. The further Jiang Qi walked, the thinner the air felt, and the candle beside him seemed to be about to go out.
The air smelled of burning paper money, and the passage ahead became increasingly narrow. There was enough space for two people to walk side by side in front, but only enough for one person to walk behind, and they had to turn sideways.
Finally, the passage opened up, and in the very center of the spacious area stood a coffin, with a brazier in front of it for burning paper money.
Seeing this arrangement, Jiang Qi became alert, and the four of them pressed themselves tightly against the wall, fearing that a ghost might run out of the coffin.
The surroundings were quiet, but nothing strange happened. Jiang Qi gripped the peach blossom hairpin tightly and slowly approached the edge of the coffin.
The closer you get, the clearer you can see the coffin. The coffin is entirely black and there's nothing strange about it.
Logically speaking, Jiang Qi and the other three were already so close to the coffin that there should have been some danger, but nothing unusual happened.
However, when Jiang Qi peered into the coffin, he discovered that it contained Chu Qidie's corpse.
Chu Qidie's face was calm and peaceful, her skin was pale but showed no signs of decay, as if she were just asleep.
Jiang Qi reached in and touched Chu Qidie's face again, and found that it was still elastic.
Seeing that no danger had arisen despite their blatant actions, Jiang Qi became even bolder.
Jiang Qi told the two girls to turn their heads away and asked Lu Zhi to help lift Chu Qidie's body up.
Upon seeing the scene at the bottom of the coffin, Jiang Qi's pupils contracted, and he immediately put the body down.
Lu Zhi also saw it, but he didn't understand the meaning behind it, so he could only wait for Jiang Qi to explain.
Jiang Qi remained silent, deciding to find an exit first and discuss the matter once they were in a completely safe place.
Seeing Jiang Qi's solemn expression, Lin Wanchu and Lu Xue understood. Sure enough, there was still something wrong with the coffin.
Jiang Qi could only have the group split up to find an exit first. "Alright, Lu Zhi and I will go to the left, and you and Lu Xue will go to the right. If you find anything wrong, don't make a sound. First, protect yourselves."
Lin Wanchu nodded seriously and then led Lu Xue to the right.
Finding an exit was of utmost urgency. Jiang Qi gently pressed his hand against the wall, trying to see if there were any hidden doors.
Lu Zhi was also searching around, occasionally glancing at the coffin in the center.
It's quite unsettling to have a coffin placed in the center of such a large space.
As Lin Wanchu and Lu Xue were thinking this, they noticed a small space in the corner on the right. Lin Wanchu was pleasantly surprised, thinking it was an exit, and gently pushed open the wooden planks outside.
Inside, there was just a small cardboard box containing clothes, wired headphones, and other miscellaneous items. At the very back, I found a diary.
The cover bears the name Xu Yan in delicate handwriting. Hmm? This is actually her diary. Let's see if there are any clues to how she got out.
Lin Wanchu glanced through it and found that it contained records of how Xu Yan and Chu Qidie met, as well as other things that troubled her.
In the last few pages, it's clear that Xu Yan's mental state is on the verge of collapse.
In her final diary entry, she repeatedly mentioned her intention to revive Chu Qidie, promising not to keep her waiting too long, as she would avenge her.
This is understandable, though, since it's hard for anyone to accept the sudden death of a close friend.
Moreover, Chu Qidie did not die of illness or accident, but rather committed suicide out of despair.
However, at the end of the diary, she wrote that she had finally returned. It was unclear whether her magic had succeeded or whether Chu Qidie had actually become a vengeful ghost before returning.
The handwriting also reveals Xu Yan's obsession with Chu Qidie's resurrection. After that, she stopped writing in her diary, leaving it completely blank.
Lin Wanchu and Lu Xue found no further information about the exit, so they searched other areas.
It's best not to take the things out of the box, since no one knows if something might happen if you do.
Lin Wanchu and Lu Xue cautiously looked at the wall, touching and tapping here and there, but they didn't find any other space.
Jiang Qi's area was an open space with no clutter. He had considered whether the exit might be on the coffin, but the bottom of the coffin only had a few nails, and he couldn't find anything like a button anywhere else.
Jiang Qi and Lu Zhi couldn't find an exit either, so they had to turn back to check on Lin Wanchu and Lu Xue's situation.
A few minutes later, the four of them successfully reunited beside the coffin. Lin Wanchu and Lu Xue both shook their heads; it seemed neither of them had found an exit.
Jiang Qi shrugged helplessly, indicating that he had no clues whatsoever and was even less lucky than the two of them.
At least Lin Wanchu and Lu Xue could find some information about Chu Qidie, but he and Lu Zhi couldn't find anything.
After listening to Lin Wanchu's account, Jiang Qi understood most of the situation. It seemed that this space was what Xu Yan used to revive Chu Qidie.
This explains why there are nails at the bottom of the coffin; it seems the only way out is through the coffin.
Having inadvertently slapped himself in the face, Jiang Qi sighed and could only exchange his forehead for a nail-pulling tool in the system shop.
Jiang Qi gently lifted Chu Qidie's body and placed it on the ground. He then began pulling out the nails, throwing them away one by one. Lin Wanchu and Lu Xue, who were standing nearby, watched in astonishment.
They actually pulled nails out of Chu Qidie's coffin without any regard for her own territory, and Jiang Qi just left Chu Qidie's body on the ground like that.
Lin Wanchu and Lu Xue both felt the air around them grow colder, and they huddled together, shivering.
Lu Zhi kept a close eye on the places around him where danger might appear at any moment, so he could warn Jiang Qi.
As the last nail hit the ground, a loud bang came from not far away.
The exit appeared, and Jiang Qi moved Chu Qidie, who had been on the ground, back into the coffin. He then carefully closed the coffin lid and gently tapped it.
"We're leaving now, sorry, bye-bye."
He quickly said "Run!" and ran towards the exit as fast as he could.
Lin Wanchu and Lu Xue quickly followed behind Jiang Qi, the coffin lid behind them shaking.
Upon hearing the sound of the coffin lid hitting the ground, Lin Wanchu and Lu Xue wished they had four legs so they could run faster.
Jiang Qi ran towards the open stone door and slipped inside in a flash.
Just as the ghost was about to catch up, Lin Wanchu and Lu Xue stepped through the door, leaving only a gust of wind behind them.
Lin Wanchu and Lu Xue both breathed a sigh of relief, and could still hear the unwilling roars of the ghosts outside the door.
Inside the door was a stone staircase leading upwards. Lin Wanchu and Lu Xue went up and saw Jiang Qi and Lu Zhi waiting for them at the exit.
They only realized they were at the back of the swimming pool after exiting the exit. Jiang Qi no longer hid anything and said to the three of them in a calm tone, "In feng shui, a coffin should not have a single iron nail on its entire body and should be constructed with mortise and tenon joints. In feng shui, nails are considered inauspicious, so it is absolutely forbidden to use nails in a coffin."
"The nails that appeared in the coffin must have been driven in as part of Xu Yan's resurrection plan. She probably didn't know that doing so would turn Chu Qidie into a ferocious creature."
"I see, so that's the reason behind it." Lin Wanchu stroked her chin thoughtfully. "Since Xu Yan knew about the method of resurrection, didn't she consider the possibility that it might not be Chu Qidie herself who returned?"
"That remains to be seen, but Xu Yan was greatly affected by Chu Qidie's death, and reviving Chu Qidie may be her only obsession."
Jiang Qi fell silent after saying that. After all, he found it hard to understand such things. Perhaps there was no one worth doing this for, and no one would go to such lengths for him.
Just as the four were about to leave the swimming pool, the system announcement sounded precisely on time.
[Congratulations to players Jiang Qi, Lu Zhi, Lin Wanchu, and Lu Xue for successfully escaping and discovering the sixth mystery, "Kind-hearted Xiao Shuang," with an exploration rate of 80%]
[Each player will be awarded 100 points; we hope players will continue their efforts.]
Upon hearing the system's voice, everyone reacted with varying expressions.
Lin Wanchu was so excited when she saw the 100 points in the system that she almost cried. She had been so sneaky, yet she still managed to get points. She was really lucky to have such a powerful backer.
Jiang Qi was pondering the sixth ghost story, "The Kind-hearted Xiao Shuang?"
The mission was successfully completed, and after a long period of exploration, everyone was exhausted. So Jiang Qi decided not to continue exploring and wanted to get back to the dormitory first. He had a feeling that this instance would end tomorrow.
Jiang Qi and Lu Zhi escorted Lin Wanchu and Lu Xue safely back to their dormitory before leaving.
Jiang Qi and Lu Zhi returned to their dormitory. As soon as Jiang Qi entered the dormitory, he collapsed onto the bed.
Jiang Qi sighed heavily. In his previous life, he always used brute force to clear the game and never bothered to look for plot clues about the dungeons.
Having been reborn into this life, I'm spending every day searching for clues to solve ghost stories, and I'm starting to feel physically and mentally exhausted.
Finding clues isn't really my strong suit, so I'll just get some sleep first.
Lu Zhi also nestled into Jiang Qi's arms and fell asleep with his arms around Jiang Qi's waist.
