Tavern of the Spear: Desire for Pleasure
Chapter 70 A Difficult Decision, A New Perspective
The cheerful sounds of breakfast had barely faded when a rustling sound came from the tavern entrance. A group of lizardmen entered, their faces beaming with smiles, showing no sign of the tension that preceded the great battle. They went straight to the bar and handed an envelope to Snow. "Boss, please give this letter to Evand. Lord Nexus specifically asked me to give it to you," the lead lizardman said respectfully. "Our tribe will be holding a grand gathering soon, and Lord Nexus wishes to invite Evand to attend."
Snow took the envelope, glancing with a hint of helplessness at Evand sitting at the next table. "He's right there, why don't you just give it to him?" Evand had naturally heard the lizardman's words, and Cheng Yu also perked up his ears.
Cheng Yu patted Evand's shoulder with his sticky palm and teased, "Looks like your sweetheart cares about you a lot." Evand's cheeks instantly turned crimson, but he didn't respond. After the lizardman left, Cheng Yu reached for the envelope in Snow's hand, wanting to take it from Evand.
The envelope was damp in one corner by Cheng Yu's slime. When Evand saw this, he quickly snatched the envelope away. "This is from Nexus, don't get it dirty!" Cheng Yu pretended to be aggrieved, but Evand completely ignored him and eagerly opened the envelope to read it carefully.
The handwriting on the letter was neat and beautiful, completely unlike Nexus's handwriting. It seems he may have practiced his handwriting for a long time for Evand, otherwise the contents of the envelope would not be so beautiful.
The envelope carried a faint, pleasant fragrance, a scent that seemed to tell of Nexus's longing and love for Evand.
Nexus first inquired about Evand's recent situation, then described in detail the arrangements for the tribal gathering, his words revealing his longing and anticipation for Evand. By the end, Evand's face was as red as a ripe apple. Cheng Yu curiously leaned closer, wanting to see what was written in the letter, but Evand blocked his way. "Don't peek!" He tightly tucked the letter into his pocket, as if protecting a precious treasure.
Cheng Yu shrugged helplessly. "Alright, alright, I won't look." He paused, then said with a mischievous grin, "But, for our Lord Evand to be so shy, the letter must contain something extraordinary, right?"
Ignoring Cheng Yu's teasing, Evand got up and left the tavern, heading straight for the backyard. He needed to find a quiet place to process the contents of Nexus's letter and think about how to respond to this deep affection.
The sunlight in the backyard was warm and comforting. Evand sat under a large tree, taking out the letter again to read it carefully. Besides the arrangements for the gathering, the letter mentioned Nexus's recent research—a potion that could weaken the strength of bullmen. He hoped Evand could also participate in this research, contributing to the future of the lizard tribe.
Reading this, Evand felt a surge of warmth in his heart. He knew Nexus had always longed to contribute to the tribe, and this invitation represented Nexus's trust and respect for him. He clenched his fist, secretly resolving to perform well at the gathering and live up to Nexus's expectations.
At this moment, Cheng Yu also came to the backyard. He quietly walked over and sat down next to Evans. "What are you thinking about?" he asked softly.
Evand handed the letter to Cheng Yu: "Nexus invited me to a tribal gathering and also asked me to participate in his research."
Cheng Yu took the letter, read it carefully, and a relieved smile appeared on his face. "That's great, it seems Nexus really values you."
“Yes,” Evand nodded, “I will try my best not to disappoint him.”
The two sat quietly under the tree, basking in the warm sunlight and enjoying this moment of tranquility. A gentle breeze rustled the leaves, as if blessing the lovers and foreshadowing new challenges and opportunities that lay ahead.
Cheng Yu looked at Evand with a maternal smile, patting his shoulder with his sticky paws. "Although I really don't want to spoil your good mood," he said slowly, with a hint of mischief in his tone, "I think I still have to remind you." He paused, then continued, "Don't get too excited yet. Maybe in a little while, the Minotaur tribe will send you an invitation, and it might even be Tarn himself who delivers it."
Evan looked at Cheng Yu suspiciously. "Tahn? How is that possible? Although I have a pretty good relationship with him, and he might invite me to help with something, but to invite me to a party? How could it be such a coincidence between two tribes?"
Cheng Yu shrugged, a "believe it or not" expression on his face, and turned to leave. Evans quickly followed, still somewhat skeptical. "Did you foresee it again?" he pressed. "Can you predict what will happen next?"
Cheng Yu glanced back at him, a mysterious smile playing on his lips. "Probably," he said vaguely, "Anyway, people from the Minotaur tribe will definitely come to deliver invitations later, and it's very likely that it will be Tarn."
Evand returned to the tavern with a mixture of doubt and anticipation, but he couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement. If Tarn really had sent an invitation, that would be such a coincidence. He sat at the bar, sipping his honey water and glancing towards the door every now and then.
Time ticked by, and customers came and went in the tavern, but the Minotaur tribe was nowhere to be seen. Evand gradually lost patience and began to suspect that Cheng Yu was playing a trick on him.
Just as he was about to give up, a tall figure suddenly appeared at the tavern entrance. It was Tarn, holding a gold-embossed invitation, who walked straight up to Evand. "Evand," he said in a deep voice, "this is my father's invitation. He hopes you will do us the honor of attending our sacrificial celebration."
Evans accepted the invitation in surprise, his heart filled with disbelief. Cheng Yu had actually guessed right! He glanced at Cheng Yu standing to the side and found him smiling at him with a smug look in his eyes.
"How did you know Tarn would come?" Evand couldn't help but ask.
"It's a secret." Cheng Yu smiled mysteriously, offering no explanation.
Evand opened the invitation and discovered that the celebration was on the same day as the lizardman tribe's gathering. This put him in a dilemma. Nexus on one side, Tarn on the other—what should he choose?
He glanced at Cheng Yu, hoping he could offer some advice. Cheng Yu simply smiled and said, "That's a difficult problem. Think about it carefully yourself."
Evand sighed; he knew he had to make a choice. He could only choose one of the two tribes' invitations. He carefully considered the relationship between the two tribes, as well as his friendship with Nexus and Tarn, and gradually an answer formed in his mind.
As night fell, Evand lay in bed, tossing and turning, unable to fall asleep. He finally made a decision, but he didn't know if it was the right one. He got up and went to the window, gazing at the bright moon, silently praying that his choice wouldn't disappoint anyone.
Cheng Yu looked at Evand, who was tossing and turning on the bed, and felt a little helpless. "Sigh, how am I supposed to sleep like this?" he muttered to himself. "Evand, stop thinking about it and go to sleep early, okay? Otherwise you won't have any energy tomorrow." He paused and added, "Besides... I really want to sleep too."
Evans nodded somewhat embarrassedly, closed his eyes, and tried to fall asleep.
Meanwhile, in the hellish prison, Cheng Yu's other half of soul sat quietly on a haystack. Baal, the minotaur imprisoned in the same cell, stared in shock at a door that had appeared out of nowhere in the center of the cell. This door, constructed from spatial power, was initially distorted and flickering with unstable light, but gradually it stabilized and became a normal door.
A few minutes later, the door was fully formed. Something on the other side of the door turned the handle, and with a "click," the door opened. A figure stepped out from behind the door.
It was a tiger-beastman dressed in plain, cloud-patterned robes. His fur was black and white, adorned with golden stripes, adding a touch of holiness. The powerful energy emanating from him suggested that while he hadn't yet become a god, he was close. He wore a dragon-shaped bracelet on each wrist, one purple and the other silver-white, their styles slightly different. Most striking were his eyes, one gold and one purple, gleaming with an unusual light.
As soon as the tiger-beastman stepped into the cage, the bracelets on his hands transformed into two miniature dragons, one purple and the other silver-white, like delicate origami. The silver-white dragon circled the cage once, its eyes filled with mockery. "Oh dear," its shrill voice rang out, "Is this your spatial ability? Take a good look, you've brought our good disciple straight to prison. It seems you think our disciple enjoys this strange kind of spatial travel?"
The purple dragon retorted, not to be outdone, "Heh, don't give me that crap, you old codger. Don't forget your time chaos almost killed my disciple!"
Seeing the two little dragons bickering again, the tiger-beastman sighed and rubbed his forehead in exasperation. These two little dragons were his two masters in disguise, who had followed him in this way because they were worried about him. He sighed and said to the little dragons, "Masters, please stop arguing. We've come this far; we shouldn't stop and think of a way out."
The silvery-white dragon gave a soft snort, its gaze immediately falling on Cheng Yu's shoulder. "Disciple, look at this fellow, truly amazing. He's just a soul, yet he hasn't died," it said in a surprised tone, completely different from its previous sarcastic remarks.
The little purple dragon also flew to Cheng Yu's side, equally shocked: "This way of separating souls is truly special! I can feel an extremely powerful spatial energy on him, which makes me a little envious. I've even taken him as my disciple!"
Cheng Yu's soul looked at the two incarnations of gods, and it actually began to move. This soul suddenly possessed the same soul consciousness as Cheng Yu.
"Hey, you're really good with words. Since you've set your sights on someone else, then don't try to steal my good disciple. Just focus your heart on this soul."
"Don't think you can't sow discord between me and my good disciple just because you say a few words. You old silver-skinned dragon, don't think too much!"
The two miniature dragons were still wrestling, rolling around like two plush toys, utterly harmless. Bai Yu sighed helplessly, walked over to Cheng Yu, and squatted down. "Where is this?" he asked gently, "And what happened to you?"
Cheng Yu didn't answer immediately. His consciousness was connected to the other half of his soul in the tavern, attempting to control both bodies simultaneously. To his surprise, he succeeded! The two souls could operate concurrently, possessing independent consciousness and behavior. This filled him with immense wonder, as if the door to a new world had been opened.
Seeing that Cheng Yu didn't react, Bai Yu waved his paw in front of him. Cheng Yu still didn't respond, which puzzled Bai Yu. He could sense that Cheng Yu's soul hadn't dissipated, so why wasn't he responding?
"Uh...sorry, I was just spacing out." Coming back to his senses, Cheng Yu looked at Bai Yu in surprise. "You were also arrested?"
Bai Yu shook his head. "I'm just a time traveler. I opened a portal and came here."
Cheng Yu was stunned. "Time traveler? Time portal?" He repeated the two words in disbelief, his mind reeling. "What kind of plot is this?" he muttered to himself. "How did another character from another world appear?"
Despite his many questions, Cheng Yu still asked, "What's your name? And what were you trying to ask me?"
“My name is Bai Yu,” the tiger-beastman answered readily, pointing to the two little dragons that were still playing around. “The purple one is called Violet Sperry, and the silver one is Argent Croney. They are my masters.”
Cheng Yu felt a chill run down his spine. Bai Yu? Violet? Argent? He had never heard of these names before. Clearly, these three guys didn't know him either.
"What did you want to ask me just now?" Cheng Yu asked again, trying to find some clues from Bai Yu's question.
“I want to ask,” Bai Yu paused, “why are you here? Also, the energy fluctuations around you are strange, it seems…”
"Wait!" the silver-white dragon Argent suddenly interjected, "I think I understand! This soul... it has the aura of a god!"
"God? What does that mean?" Cheng Yu and Bai Yu asked in unison.
“That’s right, it’s God!” Argent said with certainty. “Although it’s very faint, I can feel it! This soul has some kind of connection with God!”
"No, how did I get involved with gods? I'm not a god, I've just seen gods, okay?!" Cheng Yu was completely confused.
“Hey! The uniqueness of your soul is something no ordinary person can achieve, not even my precious disciple. So it’s impossible for you not to be related to a god,” Violet explained, her tone somewhat grave. “My precious disciple, you’d better stay away from him…”
“Hey! Masters, can you please stop this? In the last world, when you first met a stranger, you did the same thing, and it turned out the other person was just an ordinary, utterly ordinary orc! How am I supposed to communicate with him like this?” Bai Yu added, “Besides, the other person was incredulous.”
"Beep beep beep~ This has nothing to do with me. It was this silver-skinned old dragon who brought it up. It has nothing to do with me. I just thought this soul was special, I didn't have any other thoughts..."
"Me! Are all you purple-skinned dragons this shameless? So thick-skinned? You seemed even more agitated than me just now. Looks like you won't know how powerful I am until I teach you a lesson!"
After saying this, the silver dragon pounced on the purple dragon, and the two of them started fighting again.
(PS: I'm about to create a group. I hope everyone can continue to add me using the code I've sent before. I'm preparing to write a novel called "Tales of the Beast World," which is a collection of multiple 50,000-word stories. Therefore, it needs many stories and characters, with different storylines and emotional threads. There is no fixed protagonist.)
